We all use the word ‘busy,' usually without a second thought. It's just how we're used to feeling, right? It's a word we've picked up along the way and never questioned, but I'm urging you to drop it from your vocabulary. I believe that being ‘busy' has no real direction or purpose, and that's why I'm inviting you to start being productive instead.   Learn the power of being productive rather than being busy. I'm showing you why there is no room for being busy if you want to live a life of intention, how I curate productive days on purpose, and what happens when you feel like you have a generous amount of time, space, and energy in your life.   Get full show notes and more information here: https://www.kymshowerslifecoach.com/140

The Tension of Emergence: Befriending the discomfort and pleasure of slowing down & letting go of control, to lead and thrive

Jennifer offers a practice, inspired by her conversation with creative director and visionary artist Jon Marro. How can you access more creative life force when you're exhausted, too busy, or disheartened by world events? When we're running at a feverishly high pace to be productive or save the world, it can feel impossible to slow down and “be creative”.In this practice, Jennifer offers a “new doing” that can help you uncouple your time from being productive. From here, it's easier to notice the wonder of ordinary life, which becomes a wellspring of creativity. If you play with this practice and discover a new way of seeing or experiencing your ‘self' we'd love to hear from you!Links & resources—For more practices and inspiration from Jennifer get weekly inspiring emails to help you navigate the hard mess of leading and being humanFollow Jennifer on Instagram or LinkedInTalk with Jennifer! Is productivity just about getting as much done as possible, or is it about getting the right things done in the best way? HOW do you KNOW when you're being productive? Maybe a better question is how do you differentiate from being productive vs. just being busy? I'm excited to have Amber De La Garza on the show to help us answer these questions! Amber has more than a decade of experience helping small business owners maximize profits, reduce stress, and make time for what matters most by elevating their productivity! Amber is a sought-after coach, trainer, speaker, writer, host of the Productivity Straight Talk Podcast and creator of Leverage Lab® and she's here to help us choose productivity over everything else. Others will always have advice about what you should and shouldn't be doing, what's the most valuable use of your time, and where you should be spending it… But there's a difference between an expense and an investment. Like money, you can't get time back once you've spent it. But also like money, you CAN invest your time into things with the greatest ROI, with the hope that it will appreciate and generate something even greater. Being busy (but not productive) is an expensive way to live. Being PRODUCTIVE is an investment in YOU, your future, and what matters most. YOU ARE THE ASSET. It's like you go through those processes and, you know, whether you're a desk jockey or you're an outdoor person. You know? You you got systems and processes and little things that go into the logistics of everything that we do in life, and you just get better [00:04:19] One of the biggest things and one of the best things you can do especially if, you know, Whether you run a big business or a small business is to keep that personal touch in everything that you do [00:05:42] But you cannot automate the human interaction that has to go on when you're trying to operate a successful business [00:09:09] I remember being a kid when I was, like, thirteen years old, there's something that happened to me. And I haven't talked a lot about it but most thirteen my father almost raped meAll Quotes[00:06:42] And you know the person that is doing the job is doing the right thing well, at least you feel at the end of the day that he's doing the right job. Right? Like, you feel confident in the fact that it's being done right and someone's letting you know what the next step is [00:03:16] The fact that somebody reaches out and is like, you, here's my personal. You know? And if there's something you really need to reach out to me, meant a right out of the gate [00:00:33] A man is the voice of Apex, which is one of the world's leading coaching groups [00:01:44] You don't show up. It's like, thank god. I'd be like the world's worst tradesman and tradesman if I did that. So -- It's all good, man. But it happens. You know? That's life sometimes [00:08:19] And that's it's I wish I would have had those revelations a little bit earlier [00:10:57] My dad's a very violent marine. On top of that, very intimidating [00:11:51] And that was the moment because I knew, like, thankfully, whatever it was, I don't know if it was prayer, divine intervention, but my father stepped out of the shower. He got dressed, and he said, alright, just get your clothes on. Go back and finish your yard [00:05:42] But you cannot automate the human interaction that has to go on when you're trying to operate a successful business [00:05:07] The way that they're able to connect with me when they need something, they don't have to go through 4 or 5 different phone calls to reach the person that's most important, that's really gonna help them with their problems [00:09:09] I remember being a kid when I was, like, thirteen years old, there's something that happened to me. And I haven't talked a lot about it but most thirteen my father almost raped me [00:07:38] It's like you feel like you're a member of the family right out of the gate. Maybe you could speak to that a little bit because not everybody's like that, and I don't know if you were always this way or you had some experience that happened, and you're like, man, I'm not living my life to my fullest potential on who I'm really supposed to be [00:11:32] My heart was broken, and I was mad at the same time. You know, when your heart breaks and then there's nothing but rage that flaming fire that comes up from inside of your soul, you could rip somebody's head off [00:02:18] You know it's funny too. It's like you go through those processes and, you know, whether you're a desk jockey or you're an outdoor person. You know? You got systems and processes and little things that go into the logistics of everything that we do in life, and you just get better [00:03:42] I think nowadays, we have so much access to technology. We've almost thought that you can automate everything, and you can't automate everything. You can't automate the human spirit [00:00:43] My man is just the happiest man I've ever met in my life. Somehow brings the energy no matter where he is, and brightens the life of every soul he touches [00:04:19] One of the biggest things and one of the best things you can do especially if, you know, whether you run a big business, or a small business is to keep that personal touch in everything that you do [00:13:03] And then until you fix what's broken, until you come out and speak about what's broken about you, it's very hard to move forward. Like, how can you move past things like that if you're not willing to share [00:09:21] I was almost sadistic with it because I would welcome it because I would use it as a charging station to power me [00:06:22] And the fact that he took a little extra time to just kinda let me know what was going on. I know most people are like, I don't care. Is it fixed? Does it work? But, you know, that that right there is priceless to me [00:12:39] But I know it's a culture too, though. Right? Like, culture's been we've we've been kind of bread to do that too. That's why a lot of people are so fucked up, and that's why A lot of people are not living to their fullest potential because I think a lot of people have buried shit deep down, and it's very hard to move on from it.Blog PostArticle 1: The Value of Learning from Your Mistakes with Danny Galvez On today's episode of The Traded Life, host Greg Michelman invites Danny Galvez, the voice of Apex, to share his insights on how you can trade the life you have for the life you were born to live. Be inspired by their stories and learn valuable tips to help you manage your time, stay focused, and achieve your goals. Tune in today and make the most of every moment! In this episode of Being Productive we explore some early takes on the impact of AI technologies on personal, professional, and small business productivity. If you want to explore this topic more as it relates to your productivity, contact GelwicksTech.com today to schedule a free initial consultation about your needs. AI technology has become increasingly integrated into small business operations, with businesses of all sizes able to access and implement AI tools to improve their productivity and efficiency. This paper examines the potential impacts of AI on small business productivity, both positive and negative. First, it is critical to appreciate that AI can be leveraged for a wide array of different undertakings and activities, ranging from automating customer service responses to optimizing marketing campaigns. AI can also be employed to assist in decision-making, as it is able to rapidly analyze huge amounts of data and accurately identify trends. Therefore, AI can be a potent instrument that can help small businesses become more efficient and productive. However, there is also the potential for AI to cause a certain level of disturbance in the workforce. AI-powered automation means that certain tasks and processes can be completed more quickly and accurately than with manual labor, and this can lead to job losses. It is likewise significant to keep in mind that AI algorithms may not always be perfect for every task, and businesses need to ensure that they are employing AI tools that are appropriate for their specific needs. Moreover, AI may also bring about unintended consequences, such as a lack of transparency which could lead to discriminatory decisions or an increase in cyber security threats. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/beingproductive/message Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/beingproductive/support

Episode 298 is about acknowledging and accepting your core, including loving who you are with the help of discovering new realms. At some point in our lives, we all go through the deep and dark hole of self-discovery. We fear that what we are or who we are could be deemed as unacceptable by society — that we think we need to achieve so many things and become so powerful just to be praised by others. We often fail to realize that this acceptance, respect and praise that we crave are highly rooted within ourselves. Today, Matt Zemon, the author of Psychedelics for Everyone and the Co-Founder of HAPPŸŸ — a mental wellness company that specializes in psychedelic-assisted oral ketamine therapy along with digital therapeutics that promote life-transforming outcomes, challenges us to keep an open-mind to welcome the proper usage and benefits of psychedelics as powerful medicines. He will be with us to speak about his transformation and how psychedelics were able to help other people overcome anxiety, depression, addiction, PTSD and many more. As Matt said, “You are enough right now. You are loved right now. Just go. Just be.” So, join us as we face life with gratitude. May we start counting what we have, rather than complain about what we do not have. Allow us to guide you as we provide support for men through their self-discovery journey. Listener alert: Today's podcast is going to be a little different from my usual format of a conversation with a featured guest. First of all, it's not the podcast that I had planned, featuring 3 guest interviews - and there is a story behind this. Instead it's about mindset - my mindset and where the attributes of consistency, spontaneity and resilience come into play. And I 'm recording it spontaneously so my frustration and irritation may become obvious. So here is how this tale unfolds. Last week, I had the fun and pleasure of being a featured podcast host on Podapalooza, which is an action packed virtual event to connect Podcast hosts and podcast speakers. Over the day, I enjoyed conversations with 9 podcast guests. I planned to air 3 separate episodes, each featuring segments from 3 speakers, that would highlight some aspect of Growing Older Living Younger. The first is titled " Release Your Voice , Share Your Wisdom, and features transformation coaches. Allan Carroll, Lynn Himmelman and Robert A. Wilson. In segments from the original interviews, Alan shows me how to find the space between spoken words, Lynn shows how laughter creates confidence and Robert takes me through an induction test for susceptibility to hypnotherapy. This was the episode planned for today. The second, planned to air the following week is called "Technology, Time and Being Productive, with tips and strategies shared by Avital Spivak, an online technology coach, Yvonne McCoy, women's business consultant and strategist, and Sheri Burke, creator of the Reinvention playbook. The third episode "Diverse Ways to Keep Happy and Well " features interviews with Mary Scott, a documentary film maker who founded a resource directory for start businesses, Adrianna Steinwedel, who works with type 2 diabetes and Kate Culver, founder of song to Gaia, and transformational coach. To ensure that I do not miss an episode, I usually have a few pre-scheduled but having been out of town attending two busy conferences, both needing lots of follow up, I planned to schedule the first podapalooza episode today, and be finished in time to go to my Sunday night dance class. And the devils of technology intervened. I have a Mac, for which I have been meticulously keeping the desktop uncluttered and easy to work with. Unfortunately, believing that it was for the preservation of my computer, I had set my system to automatic updates. because I thought this was the way to keep my computer functioning and safe No problem until today when lo and behold, an automatic update occurred and anew operating system, Ventura, installed on my iMac. completely scrambled my computer. Somehow in its wisdom, Apple decided to download all the various folders from my iPhone, my MacBook Air, my old Mac and my current Mac and I was faced with a desktop where I couldn't find anything that I needed. r. When I launched my podcast 76 episodes ago, I made a vow to myself of consistency. Every Monday, without fail, an episode would air. And so far I have not missed a single week. I could not let this week be the first. But I have prided myself that I have featured exciting, interesting and educational guests and clearly this was not going to happen. The demon of perfectionism and fear of spontaneity urged me to miss a week, the disciplinarian of consistency fought back, and finally the humility, the nurturer, humility won out. So dear listeners, I humbly leave you with advance indication of the upcoming podapalooza episodes, and now I need to get to sleep to store up energy for my battle with technology tomorrow.

Want to make extra money to help you pay down debt or explore a new career? Chris Guillbeau shares how to launch a profitable side hustle in 27 days! Want to Launch a Side Hustle? One of the biggest hurdles I see and hear from couples in the community about why they're not able to pay down their debt, save or invest more is that they don't really have a lot of buffer in their budget. They just don't have that extra cash to put towards their goals. Typically, when you look at the numbers, there are a few ways that you can optimize your budget and cut down on some expenses, maybe negotiate some better deals on some bills. Sometimes, though, it isn't just a spending issue. It's an income issue. After your worked a full-time job, Most people I know aren't necessarily looking to take on a second one and being tied down to another fixed schedule for so-so pay. Is there a way for you to earn more, maybe on the side, that caps into one of your talents and can you use that income to either grow your emergency fund, knock out some of, knock out some or all of your debt, and explore a new career? If you've been online for any amount of time, you've probably heard the idea of starting a side hustle. But I'm not talking about what you see typically in social media where people are practically bragging about how many hours they are putting in. If that works for them. Great. Today I'm going to be talking about starting a side hustle that is sustainable. That means that you're not focused just on the hours you're putting in, but you're thoughtfully planning out the process so that you're making an impact, building some income, and still have a life. Which is why I'm so happy to pull from the archive in interview I had with Chris Guillebeau. He's a serial entrepreneur, host of the Side Hustle School Podcast, and author of several books. In this episode, we get into how you can figure out what a good side hustle would be for you. The process of starting one and launching in about a month. And how has sustainable side hustle? Can also help you build your legacy. Are you ready let's get started In this episode we get into: why a side hustle can be a wonderful option how you can start one in less than a month why and how a sustainable side hustle can also build your legacy Hope you enjoy! And we are coming to you to talk about a productivity technology event that is technology event proper, which is that the Samsung Galaxy unpacked event, the part two of that event, the October 2021 event happened. And so to do that, to have that discussion, that commentary, we have invited onto the show, Art Gelwicks of course. And so Art Gelwicks is a productivity and collaboration consultant. He's a blogger at the idea pump calm, and he's the host of the being productive podcast. He co hosts the cross platform podcast with Augusto Pinaud. And of course he joins us on ProductivityCast podcast each week. Welcome to Anything But Idle art. Art Gelwicks 0:57 I'm telling you every it sounds like I need to step up and actually do some work. So because that's that litany, I just sound like a slacker. I mean seriously. Raymond Sidney-Smith 1:08 Well, it's great. Thanks Art Gelwicks 1:09 for having me. Raymond Sidney-Smith 1:10 Yes, of course. Great to have you on the show to talk about this Samsung Galaxy unpacked part two. And so a brief event. But notwithstanding they announced a few things. Art Gelwicks 1:23 It was like a mini It was like a mini event. Raymond Sidney-Smith 1:26 Yeah, exactly. So so let's get into kind of the primary thing they announced was the Samsung Galaxy z flip three, the bespoke edition, a favorite word of mine, bespoke. And so tell us a little bit about what you thought about the bespoke edition of the Z flip three, Art Gelwicks 1:44 it the whole package of the event was all about personalization. Not only was the flip three talked about for bespoke, and I'm gonna dig into that, but also the galaxy Watch has a split, bespoke option now. And what that really is talking about is this is Samsung's unveiling of their customers supply chain, manufacturing on the fly, for lack of a better term. And if we focus on the Z three, flip the Z flip three, I'll always get that wrong. What you can literally do is go into the Samsung site and choose the color configurations that you want for the device. Do you want a black, you want a gray? Do you want a yellow Do you want a salmon color, I forget the exact color combinations they have. But you can pick and choose them. And then they will build the device to your spec for that it doesn't change the internals, you don't get to choose a better camera or a bigger battery. It's all about the look of the device.

I mean, there's so much stuff in one, I was not ready for this, all of this stuff that hit at one time. Not that I'm complaining, I love having all kinds of cool toys to look at. But Good grief. Raymond Sidney-Smith 1:23 So this was the pixel fall event on October 19. And of course, at this event, the keynote and the product announcements really were for the long awaited, but mostly known about made by Google smartphones, the pixel six and the six Pro. And so what did you think about the event? Kind of, you know, generally? And what was the What did you feel like, you know, was good about the event bad about the event. And then we could talk about some of the particulars regarding the pixel six, the six pro and of course, the announcement of pixel pass, which is Google's first kind of subscription service for the pixel phones specifically. Art Gelwicks 2:05 Yeah, the event itself, I thought was, if you look at it in the context of all the events that happened, I'd say it was one of the better ones that's happened recently, they did a very good job of laying out exactly what they wanted to cover and how they wanted to cover it. They didn't lose sight of their messaging during the presentation itself. They made it very inviting, why they felt the need to actually do it in the Google Store was, I don't know, that kind of alluded me a little bit. But you could tell from the beginning, that they were all in on the main parts of these new phones, the tensor chip,

You know him as the productivity blogger at the idea pump, and he's our friend of the various podcasts, Art Gelwicks. How's it going? Art Gelwicks 0:47 Hey, guys, I'm getting rained on here right now. But doing well. Raymond Sidney-Smith 0:51 Yeah, we can. We can hear that. We can hear the pitter patter. Art Gelwicks 0:54 It's coming down pretty good. So hopefully it stays on the outside of the house. so Raymond Sidney-Smith 1:00 fantastic. So let's get right into the event. There were supposedly eight product announcements, I tried to capture all of the product announcements, I think I got all eight. And so talk to me about the event. What did you think about the event? What were the things that stood out for you? Initially? Art Gelwicks 1:18 Well, watching the event I right away, I'll say it was short, from beginning to end. I think the total duration was, what, 45 minutes. So they didn't drag a lot of the stuff out? Augusto Pinaud 1:30 Well, actually, it was three of the four because the event could have been really Art Gelwicks 1:39 six. Okay. So yes, that is one of the first takeaways is that, and unfortunately, I don't remember the gentleman's name, but the first speaker does tend to dry out his speech a bit he it, it has a very Bob Ross kind of vibe to the initial part. So Augusto Pinaud 1:57 I was watching it on YouTube, I couldn't watch it live. And I was doing to x and I came two or three times to check that the 2x was actually working. Yeah, it's Art Gelwicks 2:06 his his pacing could use a little little bit of a goose up. I mean, when you when you compare it to some of the other events, when you compare it to the Samsung in the apple there there, it was definitely lower key than you would normally expect. But that's not necessarily a bad thing. It's just kind of a thing. So from a messaging standpoint, and a targeting standpoint, they stayed on topic. I mean, they didn't dig into Windows 11, or Microsoft 365, or anything like that. This was a hardware event. And that's what they talked about was hardware.

Welcome to Minisode Monday, where we kick off the week with something quick and actionable -- to make you more magnetic and effective -- that you can implement right away. In this Minisode Monday, recent guest Charles Duhigg -- author of Smarter Faster Better: The Secrets of Being Productive in Life and Business and The Power of Habit: Why We Do What We Do in Life and Business -- joins us to discuss why we're probably writing our to do lists wrong and how we can use SMART goals to make them more effective. Let's get to it! The Cheat Sheet: If you write to do lists, you're like most people who are trying to squeeze as much productivity out of the day as possible. But some to do lists are more effective than others; sometimes they're just written to make us feel productive. (About 15 percent of to do list writers include tasks they've already done for a sense of cognitive closure.) If you'd rather use your to do list to actually get things done instead of as a form of what Charles calls mood repair, try breaking it up. Put your most important task at the top: this is your stretch goal. "What you're trying to do is you're trying to use that to do list to not serve as just a memory aid, but rather to force you to think about your priorities," says Charles. Next, you break up the remaining tasks into SMART (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic, Timeline) goals. "It takes 45 seconds to take a big goal and find its SMART components," says Charles. "But if you do that, within a minute you have your top proirity at the top of your to do list, and underneath you essentially have a plan of how to get started right away. That is the right way to write a to do list!" To learn more about social dynamics and productivity hacks, take the Art of Charm Challenge by clicking here, or text CHARMED to 33444. Before writing this, I closed my eyes. I allowed myself to rest. I went from, "think, think, think" to nothing. And nothing felt good. Nothing worked. Nothing is my success. Today. I used to have another kind of success.  I was a hedge fund manager, web developer, producer, investor, corporate employee, CEO, writer. I still do some of these jobs. But not because "they" tell me to. I look back and see desperation. I was desperate to secure my future. My income. My relationships. There was always a risk of getting fired. I knew my then-wife could decide she didn't love me anymore. My kids could, too. I was shrinking. Physically, emotionally, mentally and spiritually shrinking. I thought if I was miserable, "they" would help me. They didn't. I bled out on the floor.  And then I chose myself. Now I do the daily practice. I experiment. I find what works for me. And I write about it. Because advice is autobiography. But something is still stopping me. And, if you've read to here, I bet there's something stopping you. If you learn one thing today, I hope it's this: experiment everyday. The steps are: Experiment. Pay Attention. Experiment And if it doesn't work out how you imagined, then you'll have a better story. I got evicted last week. The same day, I did this interview with Charles Duhigg. You'll hear it in the podcast. Charles is a Pulitzer Prize winner and the author of two New York Times bestselling books, The Power of Habit and Smarter Faster Better: The Secrets of Being Productive in Life and Business.  Renting doesn't work for me. But I tried it. It was a successful experiment with a failed result. I'm finding what works for me everyday. Charles says that's what the most productive people do. They cycle through systems. Charles cycled. He wasn't always smarter, better, faster. "I would come home every night and tell my wife, 'If this is what success feels like, sign me up for failure.' It was killing me," he says. "It's very easy to lose sight of the 'why,'" he says. "[We] lose track of why we're doing something, how it links up to our deepest values or our biggest aspirations... what we actually want to do with our life." This interview might teach you something about experimenting, or focussing, or motivation. Or it might teach you nothing. But, nothing is a lesson, too. ------------What do YOU think of the show?
