Simon Bridges has been dumped from the shadow cabinet and demoted to the backbenches. The shock news came in a media release from National Party leader Judith Collins just after 9.30pm on Wednesday amid much speculation that Bridges was considering a tilt at the top job. Bridges is accused of making crude remarks of to a "female caucus colleague" in front of other National MPs at a party function five years ago. RNZ understands the MP who laid the complaint is Jacqui Dean. RNZ has been told that Bridges apologised to Dean following the incident. The Waitaki MP has been approached for comment. Collins says she had no option but to immediately demote the Tauranga MP and strip him of his portfolio responsibilites with the unanimous support of the board and the party would not tolerate harassment and intimidation of any person. National Party MP Chris Bishop spoke to Susie Ferguson.

On the morning of November 6, 1953, AccuWeather Founder and CEO Joel Myers peddled his bicycle to school in Philadelphia wearing only a thin jacket. He said that “Just a few days before the temperature had been in the seventies but then it was about 50 degrees. The radio mentioned colder weather and chance of a snow flurry in the afternoon ... well it began to snow by noontime and by mid-afternoon we were in the midst of a tremendous snowstorm ... big flakes and gusty winds. After school I pushed my bicycle home through heavy blowing snow as winds gusted to 50 miles an hour, and temperatures fell below freezing. By the next morning... snow accumulations across eastern Pennsylvania ranged from 3-30". Officially a little less than 4” of snow fell in Philadelphia but that was still enough to make it a record snowfall for so early in the season, the far northern and western suburbs were paralyzed by almost 30” of heavy wet snow that took a week to clean up. When Hugh and DeeDee released their only child to heaven, they struggled with what to call themselves in the aftermath. There is no specific word in the English language to describe a parent who has lost a child. A wife without her husband is a widow. A husband without his wife is a widower. A child bereft of parents is an orphan. A parent whose child has died before they have is an undefined hollow of hurt. Miscarriage. Sudden infant death. Suicide. Illness. Accident. Death steals a child from this world and then robs the surviving parents of an expressed identity. Yet God Himself knows such devastating grief as His only Son, Jesus, called to Him while dying on the cross, “Father, into your hands I commit my spirit” (Luke 23:46). God was Father before Jesus’ earthly birth and remained Father when Jesus released His final breath. God continued as Father when the still body of His Son was laid in a tomb. God lives on today as Father of a risen Son who brings every parent the hope that a child can live again. What do you call a heavenly Father who sacrifices His Son for the universe? For you and for me? Father. Still, Father. When there are no words in the glossary of grief to describe the pain of loss, God is our Father and calls us His children (1 John 3:1).

Did you know that when we communicate, only 7% is in the words that we say? That means 93% of our communication is through nonverbal language. In today's episode of IntHERrupt, Linda's going solo to explain some of her findings and experiences in fostering positive nonverbal communication. The goal with body language is to look at them in clusters, not just one instance of expression. Nonverbal language is the way you move your body, the way you gesture, whether or not you're smiling, and whether you make eye contact, all of which impact nonverbal language. Did you know that we make over 3000 facial gestures a day? Humans are far more expressive than we might think. Linda learned firsthand the importance of body language when interacting with a past COO.  She wanted to share an idea, but his body language was not receptive to communication. (His arms folded, he was scowling and made no eye contact.) Linda mirrored him, becoming equally closed off.  Soon after, he began to nod and make eye contact, so Linda became more open.  Once they were both open with each other, they were able to share ideas. Posture is integral to good nonverbal communication. Keep your shoulders back, with your shoulder blades rolled back and down. Keep your head up, and your body open, and your legs uncrossed and your feet flat on the ground. Spending time moving your body and getting exercise will help you be more confident. Use nonverbal communication to gauge if someone might be deceptive. Sudden jerky movements or covering their mouth after speaking Shifts in voice tone or a sudden dry cough Increased blink rate or clenched eyebrows. They might smile more than usual, trying to overcompensate. Your body language is just as crucial as your teammates'. As a leader, you want to be approachable. Your job is to listen to others. Therefore, you need to show that you will and do hear people when in conversation with others. Be aware of where your or someone's feet point. For example, if feet are pointed toward the door, they might be uncomfortable with the situation. If in conversation with someone who is uncomfortable, turn your body on a slight angle, so you aren't interacting with them head-on. Linda's final takeaway: Record yourself speaking, whether at an event or even in your living room, and watch your body language. It's a great way to observe any nervous habits you have that you might not even be aware of. Do you have any questions about body language or being aware of your own body language? Ask it in Linda's Facebook group!  Do you have stories to tell? Connect with Linda to share them. This podcast is produced by TSE Studios. The Dark Side of Beautiful – 10/30    This weekend America and much of the world celebrates the second biggest holiday of the year – Halloween and Dia De Los Muertos. This holiday often portrays the scary side of death – though today I'd like to also talk about the beautiful almost irresistible side of death too.  Halloween Stats[1] per USA Today  Americans love holidays – Ancient Israel had close to 4 weeks of national holidays plus the weekly Sabbath holiday Today there are said to be 11 days of national holiday in America 10 billion dollars will be spent on Halloween this year – 1 billion more than ever before. 1/3 on costumes – 1/3 on candy and 1/3 on decorations 2/3 Americans will celebrate Halloween  8 out of ten families with children will celebrate Halloween  Most popular costume by 4x more than any other – A witch - Did you know that more people in America today identify as a witch[2] (1.4 million) than those who identify as Seventh-day Adventist? More witches than those who identify as Presbyterian! An Atlantic article describes – “Americans' interest in spell-casting tends to increase as instability rises and trust in establishment ideas plummets. Wicca is America's fastest growing Religion!!!!! Author Julie Roys says - “Wicca (which is a form of paganism) has effectively repackaged witchcraft for Millennial consumption. No longer are witchcraft and paganism satanic and demonic… it's a ‘pre-Christian tradition' that promotes ‘free thought' and ‘understanding of earth and nature.' October 31 is Halloween – November 1 begins the festival – Dia de los Muertos or day of the dead – often very beautiful -  Origins are believed to be pagan—Pagan - a person who worships many gods or goddesses or the earth or nature -  Later all hallows eve – sought to Christianize the holiday – – originally called Samhain – a celtic pagan holiday  Occurred around the solstice and a day when animals were slaughtered and bonfires were lit where it was believed the veil between the living and the underworld/dead was thin – a time when the AOS SI or spirits or fairies could more easily communicate with the living. Some say the AOS SI were a supernatural race of spirits generally described as stunningly beautiful. The AOS Si were believed to be the gods of the ancient pagan world – Scripture describes these ‘gods' of the pagan world as fallen angels cast out of heaven for giving their allegiance to Lucifer rather than Jehovah The celebration of this ancient festival was when - The souls of dead relatives were also thought to revisit their homes seeking hospitality, and a place was set at the table for them during a Samhain meal. Disguise and wrapping oneself in burial clothes like a mummy was a part of this festival in order to hide yourself from the AOS Si. It was a holiday of impersonation. Impersonation is the practice when Someone imitates or copies the behavior or actions of another. According to Irish mythology, Samhain was a time when the 'doorways' to the Underworld opened, allowing supernatural beings and the souls of the dead to come into our world; Samhain "was essentially a festival for the dead".[3] Here in America, we are pretty obsessed with this idea of death being nothing more than a gateway to the next life. This sentiment is much like the ancient Egyptians. Whether it's zombies, the undead, ghosts, conjuring spirits or anything we celebrate on Halloween these days – death has become big business – especially the scary side of it. But then there's the other side – the beautiful side – the idea of reconnecting with our loved ones.  We love the idea of communicating with the dead, celebrating life after death and who can blame us ? The Sumerians did, the Egyptians did, the Persians, the Greeks, the idea of talking to the dead is found in Homer's Odyssey..and  the Romans were into it And now the Christians… In the midst of the civil war – there were more people who claimed to be able to talk to the dead than the number of people who were in favor of abolishing slavery!!!! In the early years of the United States – Most Protestant Christians openly protested to celebrating this holiday.  I don't know your thoughts on Halloween but I think its important to know the history of a thing and the issues around it. Especially in light of the belief by some that the downfall of ancient empires was closely linked with the increase in supposed communication with the spirit world and communicating with the dead.  Why would that be? Today nearly 2 billion people on earth identify as Christian and the majority of those believe it is possible to communicate with the dead.   Two sides of this discussion the beautiful and the ugly  So often we talk about the ugly – in our books, our art, our films – the dead are scary but then the other side is when its our loved ones…. That we miss so much – that we often would do anything to reconnect with - Hollywood capitalizes on both – the scary and the beautiful The bible is not silent on the idea of what happens to us humans after we breathe our last breath. The Bible tells us in Genesis 2:7 and Ezekiel 18:20 – that the soul is not immortal. That life comes from the dust of the ground and the breath of life from God. Like a lightbulb made of materials from the ground is nothing without electricity – together they create light.  Overall Scripture paints death as a sleep – awaiting the final judgment – the final decision of God as to who knew Him and who did not. Only after that decision does destiny and destination be decided. But not secretly – instead at events known as the second and third coming of Jesus. At the second the righteous dead awake. At the third the dead who are lost will awake.  After death a person: returns to dust (Psalms 104:29), knows nothing (Ecclesiastes 9:5), possesses no mental powers (Psalms 146:4), has nothing to do with anything on earth (Ecclesiastes 9:6), does not live (2 Kings 20:1), waits in the grave (Job 17:13), and continues not (Job 14:1, 2). --------The gods of the old Testament were not just imaginary. Talking about these ‘gods' David tells us the history of his people and the great sin of King Saul-  They did not destroy the peoples, as the Lord commanded them, but they mixed with the nations and learned to do as they did. They served their idols, which became a snare to them. They sacrificed their sons and their daughters to the demons; they poured out innocent blood (Psalm 106:34-38). the demons, the fallen angels, legion race were the gods of the old Testament and all these different gods were demons that somehow in some way had personified themselves. And then the people had made an idol after this demon. And if the angels are in the proportions that we read and legend says, they're extremely tall, 12, 16, 18 foot tall beings, and very Beautiful.  They stirred him to jealousy with strange gods; with abominations they provoked him to anger. They sacrificed to demons that were no gods, to gods they had never known.. (Deut 32:16-17).  Deut 18:9-12 - 9When thou art come into the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee, thou shalt not learn to do according to the abominations of those nations. 10There shall not be found among you any one who maketh his son or his daughter to pass through the fire, or who useth divination, or an observer of times, or an enchanter, or a witch, 11or a charmer, or a consulter with familiar spirits, or a wizard, or a necromancer. 12For all who do these things are an abomination unto the LORD, and because of these abominations the LORD thy God doth drive them out from before thee (KJV). Paul says in 1 Corinthians 10 that what pagans sacrifice they offer to demons and not to God. This was profound. When I learned this concept that these weren't just ignorant people. They were worshiping beings with a ton of talent and skill and wisdom. Early Church leaders such as Justin Martyr and Tertullian held similar views (that the gods were actually demons). Why would ancient civilizations talk to these beings? We learn in 2 Kings 19:35 that one angel – one of these type of beings killed 185,000 soldiers in one night. You hear talk of generals from wars in our recent history who were communing with these same beings. - - - I'd like to tell you a story about Israel's first King – Saul and his communicating with the spirit world through an oracle of Endor – READ 1 Samuel 28:3-6 Saul is longing for answers. Notice verse 3 - Samuel has died. He was the voice of God to Saul. Have you ever lost someone close to you? You know this feeling of love being cut off suddenly.  I have. A few years back I got a call that my dad had died in a car accident. Sudden. You think of the your last conversation. You think of the good times. You would do ANYTHING to talk to them again.  Let me repeat that - You would do ANYTHING to talk to them again.  I know the Bible teaching on the dead, yet for months and even years I would have dreams where I would see my dad, talk to him, even know he was dead yet everything in my being - in my dream - wanted to hug him, talk to him.  Not until you lose someone and realize the power of love and loss do you begin to really understand the power of this doctrine of the devil - that death is a doorway to the next life. That there is no check and balance to immortality – all must just live on regardless of character and actions in this life.  Saul was desperate and he called for a medium. He knew better but he was would do ANYTHING to find answers. 1 Samuel 28:7- 25 ——-    —-     —-    —-   —- Why address this today? Because if the Bible is true, it paints a picture of some mass event in our future - a deception thousands of years in the making. In the closing scenes of this war between good and evil we are told that The most powerful medium - friends and family, who seem to come to us, look the same, sound the same, smell the same, and are here to comfort us and ‘warn us' of coming danger. I can tell you everything in your soul will WANT TO BELIEVE these beings impersonating your loved ones. This is where faith and feeling will fight their greatest battle. The only thing telling you this is not real is Scripture and the truth that the dead know nothing (Eccl 9:5) and Job 7:9-10 - As a cloud vanishes and is gone, so one who goes down to the grave does not return. He will never come to his house again; his place will know him no more. 1 Timothy 4:1 - The Spirit clearly says that in the last days some will abandon the faith and follow deceiving spirits and things taught by demons. 1 Timothy 4:3 - For the time will come when people will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear. We also learn in 2 Corinthians 11:14 that Lucifer - the fallen archangel of heaven is planning to personatechrist before the true second coming. We also learn that the fallen angels are going to impersonate loved ones who have gone to sleep i.e. died. Why? Because this is the most powerful MEDIUM to sway someone's belief system.  I had a friend in elementary school who's family had spoken to their dead daughter- his sister. There is NO. LET ME REPEAT. NO WAY to reason with someone's apparent reality. They saw her, they spoke to her, and I was not going to convince them otherwise.  The dead can appear to talk to the living, it's just not the dead but demons or the fallen angels masquerading as loved ones with the sole desire to deceive us.  Life is made up of concepts and ideas which equate to emotions and actions. You have a choice on what you believe and how it effects your behavior.  This topic and a complete understanding of it impacts so many other beliefs and ideas. It has influenced this planet since the first day and will be an issue until the last day.  The reason it is all so important is because it is about love. God loves us and does not want to see us deceived and lost. We have to decide if that true love is worth it… Jesus - For why should we seek the living among the dead? (Luke 24:5) Challenge -  ---------------------        Ellen White on husband James after death:  Prolific Author and Adventist Pioneer, Ellen White – Letter 17, 1881 (RY 161) ------ Life Sketches p. 360 -----GCB June 1, 1913 James White her husband has just died recently –--------A few days since, I was pleading with the Lord for light in regard to my duty. In the night I dreamed I was in the carriage, driving, sitting at the right hand. Father (Dad – James White) was in the carriage, seated at my left hand. He was very pale, but calm and composed. “Why Father,” I exclaimed, “I am so happy to have you by my side once more! I have felt that half of me was gone. Father, I saw you die; I saw you buried. Has the Lord pitied me and let you come back to me again, and we work together as we used to?”  He looked very sad. He said, “The Lord knows what is best for you and for me. My work was very dear to me. We have made a mistake. We have responded to urgent invitations of our brethren to attend important meetings. We had not the heart to refuse. These meetings have worn us both more than we were aware. Our good brethren were gratified, but they did not realize that in these meetings we took upon us greater burdens than at our age we could safely carry. They will never know the result of this long-continued strain upon us. God would have had them bear the burdens we have carried for years. Our nervous energies have been continuously taxed, and then our brethren misjudging our motives and not realizing our burdens have weakened the action of the heart. I have made mistakes, the greatest of which was in allowing my sympathies for the people of God to lead me to take work upon me which others should have borne.  “Now, Ellen, calls will be made as they have been, desiring you to attend important meetings, as has been the case in the past. But lay this matter before God and make no response to the most earnest invitations. Your life hangs as it were upon a thread. You must have quiet rest, freedom from all excitement and from all disagreeable cares. We might have done a great deal for years with our pens, on subjects the people need that we have had light upon and can present before them, which others do not have. Thus you can work when your strength returns, as it will, and you can do far more with your pen than with your voice.”  He looked at me appealingly and said, “You will not neglect these cautions, will you, Ellen? Our people will never know under what infirmities we have labored to serve them because our lives were interwoven with the progress of the work, but God knows it all. I regret that I have felt so deeply and labored unreasonably in emergencies, regardless of the laws of life and health. The Lord did not require us to carry so heavy burdens and many of our brethren so few. We ought to have gone to the Pacific Coast before, and devoted our time and energies to writing. Will you do this now? Will you, as your strength returns, take your pen and write out these things we have so long anticipated, and make haste slowly? There is important matter which the people need. Make this your first business. You will have to speak some to the people, but shun the responsibilities which have borne us down.” “Well,” said I, “James, you are always to stay with me now and we will work together.” Said he, “I stayed in Battle Creek too long. I ought to have gone to California more than one year ago. But I wanted to help the work and institutions at Battle Creek. I have made a mistake. Your heart is tender. You will be inclined to make the same mistakes I have made. Your life can be of use to the cause of God. Oh, those precious subjects the Lord would have had me bring before the people, precious jewels of light!”  I awoke. But this dream seemed so real. Now you can see and understand why I feel no duty to go to Battle Creek for the purpose of shouldering the responsibilities in General Conference. I have no duty to stand in General Conference. The Lord forbids me. That is enough.—Letter 17, 1881. . UnMind: Zen Moments With Great Cloud

Extensive recordof Master Dogen's Zen mindand still not enough* * *In the introduction to Dogen's Extensive Record, Eihei Koroku, my copy a gift from Shohaku Okurmura, who collaborated in translating with the American Zen Priest Taigen Dan Leighton, Leighton reminds us that “…Dogen's intent is not to present doctrines of philosophical positions, but to encourage deepening religious practice.” By which, of course Master Dogen means primarily zazen, but also to study these teachings from Buddhism thoroughly in practice, reflecting upon the more obscure or arcane lessons from Buddha on down through the Chinese masters in light of our own experience on the cushion. With the caveat that we are not to assume that a cursory or superficial examination of that experience is dependable. We have to sit still enough, for long enough, for any insight to transpire. How still is still enough? And how long is long enough? Only you can know for sure. If there is any doubt about this in your mind, it is not enough. Doubt itself has to sharpen into Great Doubt, it is said.Shortly afterwards, in the same section, “Using Eihei Koroku as a Practice Tool,” after pointing out that practically 100% of Dogen's teachings are oriented to the practice of zazen, he quotes Bob Dylan as reflecting the same spirit of inquiry in song: “A question in your nerves is lit, yet you know that there is no answer fit to satisfy, ensure you not to quit, to keep it in your mind and not forget, that it is not he or she or them or it that you belong to.” Quintessentially American, the creativity in Dylan is more than matched by that of Dogen, in inspiring this essentially scientific, and yet poetic, approach to Zen.Owing to the exhaustive and extensive, encyclopedic nature of this collection of Dogen's teachings, 645 pages not including appendices, with most of the recorded live teachings being brief enough to fit more than one to a page, it is not possible to deal with in any comprehensive fashion here. Instead, I will offer the tiniest tip of the iceberg, quoting Dharma Hall Discourse number 431. This is not exactly an arbitrary choice on my part, as it is about where I am in the full re-reading of the text, cover-to-cover. This one is fairly typical in its length, as well as Master Dogen's spontaneous approach to expounding upon well-known (at that time) historical events and classical teachings from Chinese Buddhism. It also touches on what I feel is one of the most compelling events in the history of Zen Buddhism, the first meeting and exchange of the Sixth Ancestor in China, commonly referred to as Huineng, with his teacher, the Fifth Ancestor Daman Hongren. It also resonates, in my opinion, with a contemporary issue of considerable concern, friction and frustration, that of immigration. [Brackets are by the translators.] Southern Buddha Nature431. Dharma Hall DiscourseI can remember, lay practitioner Lu [later the sixth ancestor, Dajian Huineng] visited the fifth ancestor [Daman Hongren].The [fifth] ancestor asked, “Where are you from?”Lu replied, “I am from Lingnan in the south.”The ancestor asked, “What is it you are seeking?”Lu said, “I seek to become a buddha.”The ancestor said, “People from the south have no Buddha nature.”Lu said, “People have south or north; the Buddha nature does not have south or north.”The ancestor realized that this person was a vessel [of Dharma], and allowed him to enter the hall for lay postulants.Although the fifth ancestor and sixth ancestor spoke like this, I, their descendant Eiheiji, have a bit more to say. Great assembly, would you like to understand this clearly? Although [Lu] picked up a single blade of grass, he had not yet offered five flowers. The footnotes, which are another asset of this volume, are quite extensive in themselves, filling in the blanks for those readers who are not especially scholarly, such as myself. Here they explain that “Lingnan is a large section of Canton, in south China. People from Lingnan were considered provincial and ignorant.” This is where I find the resonance with the contemporary contempt, expressed in certain circles, for our neighbors to the south, in Mexico and beyond. But buddha-nature, much like human nature, cannot be consigned to only those who are like us. It's either all or nothing, no exceptions.Note that he starts by saying “I can remember,” which he does frequently. I think this may be equivalent to the traditional “Thus have I heard” introducing teachings attributed to Shakyamuni Buddha, as a way of authenticating them. Here, Dogen's memory must be of an anecdote he has studied in writing, or one that his teachers had quoted. Nowadays of course we have the more labor-intensive requirement to thoroughly and accurately attribute any quote to its proximate source, usually in print format, but more and more from online search engines and live or recorded audio-video sources, such as this podcast. The Internet has at one and the same time made this infinitely more doable, and infinitely more complex. We literally have whole libraries at our fingertips, as opposed to scrolls of rice paper. Also in Fukanzazengi, Master Dogen urges us to “…give up even the idea of becoming a buddha” when we begin zazen, after “stopping the function of your mind” to engage in judgmental discourse. Huineng's declaration that this is indeed his purpose would thus normally be taken as the unenlightened view of the novice, but he had had some definitively profound experience leading up to this meeting, when overhearing a monk reciting the Diamond Cutter Sutra, a line defining the true nature of Mind had hit him like a ton of bricks. He had made his way to Hongren's monastery to clarify the Great Matter, without having had any training in, or study of, buddha-dharma. He was said to be illiterate, at least in the context of his times, and was a relatively young man, somewhere in his mid-twenties. This also happens to be the age that our founder, Matsuoka Roshi, came to America, and my age when I met him in the 1960s in Chicago.Hongren's teasing statement that southerners have no buddha-nature is similar to what my fellow Zen students in Chicago said, when I announced that I was moving to Atlanta, in part to bring Zen to the South. They retorted, “Southerners do not do Zen!” I responded, “That's the point!” So now we are the Southern School of Sudden enlightenment, as Huineng's sect was later known. Actually, of course, the binary of sudden and gradual cannot be separated anymore than hot and cold, light and dark. We are suddenly awakened in the moment, or moment-after-moment, but it took the whole of history of the universe to get here. Lung-ya's “Those who in the past were not enlightened will now be enlightened.”Note that Hongren allowed Huineng to “enter the hall for lay postulants.” This tells us that by that time, lay practice was recognized, and perhaps “separate but equal” to that for monastics. Just as Master Dogen had respected the hierarchy in the Chinese monastery of his teacher Rujing, with himself as an outlander at the bottom of the totem pole, apparently the distinction between bhikkhus and bhikkhunis, versus lay men and women, had survived from Buddha's India down to the 600s of the common era.The “five flowers,” as another footnote informs us, “…may refer to the five houses of Ch'an that derived from Huineng's influence. But Dogen's statement implies the need to see multiplicity as well as the oneness of Buddha nature.” Again, contemporary perspectives on ideology reflected in ancient wisdom. The current term of art would be “diversity” rather than multiplicity, perhaps, but the implication is the same. The oneness is seen in the “single blade of grass,” an image that is frequently used in Zen literature to indicate the wholeness in the particular, the many reflected in the one. As Dogen says in Fukanzazengi, “The buddha-way is leaping clear of the many and the one…” The reality is that both things are true at the same time. Simultaneity takes precedence over linearity.Dogen closes with his boilerplate signoff, including a claim to be descended from the old guys whom he remembers having this run-in, and follows with a clarification that is only clarifying if you already have a clue as to what he is talking about. This amounts to the tip of the tip of the iceberg — that part that may be brushed off by the wing of an eagle flying by once a year — to steal from an old metaphor for immeasurability. I hope it has been enough to dig deeper into this early genius of Zen, the founder of our Soto practice, in Japan's medieval time. You could do worse than to at least read the Shobogenzo if you want more than cursory glimpse of Japan's greatest thinker — one who taught the art of nonthinking.* * *Elliston Roshi is guiding teacher of the Atlanta Soto Zen Center and abbot of the Silent Thunder Order. He is also a gallery-represented fine artist expressing his Zen through visual poetry, or “music to the eyes.”UnMind is a production of the Atlanta Soto Zen Center in Atlanta, Georgia and the Silent Thunder Order. But of the times and the seasons, brethren, ye have no need that I write unto you. For yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so cometh as a thief in the night. For when they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape. But ye, brethren, are not in darkness, that that day should overtake you as a thief. Ye are all the children of light, and the children of the day: we are not of the night, nor of darkness. Therefore let us not sleep, as do others; but let us watch and be sober. (1 Thessalonians 5:1-6) 19 People live today as though, just before the Coming of the Lord Jesus, if He was going to send a host of Angels down to all the newspapers, and, for a year or so, announce it throughout all the world, in the newspaper, that, “On a such-and-such a date, Jesus will arrive.” And to have it broadcast by the radio, and put on the televisions, and everywhere, just the day and just the hour that He was coming. Now that's the way people live today. 20 But, God has said in His Word, that, “It would be like a thief in the night, coming.” 21 If that would be so, people would say, as the world thinks today, “Oh, well, there is just plenty of time. I'll…It'll be well announced.” And, but, you see, it is announced, but it's a secret announcing. It's just those who are willing to hear it. Those who are willing to consider it and, too, who loves the Lord. 22 I think now of what Paul said when he said, “There is a crown of righteousness laid up for me, that the Lord, the righteous Judge will give me at that day.” And then he stopped. Did you notice? And said, “Not only me, but to all them that love His appearing.” If we love His appearing! 23 Usually in the world today, that people think of the appearing of the Lord as a horrible, dreadful thing. Oh, the world might come to its… “Don't talk to me about that,” they'll say. They don't want to know about those things. They don't care about them; just for the present day living. But those who love the Lord, love His appearing. 24 What if one of your loved one, some of you older people, that your mother was gone on, or your father, or your baby, and they were been away for so many years, and you knowed that they might appear at any time? Why, you'd have the house all cleaned up. You would just be ready and watching down that road, for, every car light that turned in, you'd think it would be them. 25 Now that's the way the Church ought to be watching for the Coming of the Lord. All in order, all ready, all packed up and ready to go as soon as He comes, because, “It'll be in a moment, in a twinkling of an eye.” Just try to time how long it would take your eye to twinkle, that's just how quick the Rapture of the Church will take place. 58-1012 - "The Sudden, Secret Going Away Of The Church" Rev. Tendrils of Grief

Dan and Nancy lost their daughter in a car crash and had to make the tough decision to take her off life support. Today, they help grievers get unstuck in their grief and help them with better coping mechanisms that refine the definition of what it is to be in grief. Learn about Dan and Nancy's story on this week's episode.    Key Takeaways: A little bit about Dan and Nancy's grief story with losing their daughter.  Dan saw a little sparrow and he realized it was a sign that it was time to say goodbye to his daughter, who was on life support at the time.  We think that what happens to us doesn't happen to anybody else, but it's a small world and we all have shared similar experiences.  We aren't taught at all how to grieve. However, there are ways to make grief a beautiful experience.  Friends and family members often can't handle pure accidents that lead to tragedy, and by trying to reason with it, they often put blame on the person who has passed. People asked Dan and Nancy if she was distracted while driving, and if that was the reason why she had her accident. That's pretty insensitive.  People have avoided the couple in public after they lost their daughter. It's hard to be around uncomfortableness.  Couples often split up when a child dies, but Dan and Nancy have managed to stay together.  Dan had to put on a brave face and get back to work after his daughter died.  If you stuff your grief down, it'll eventually come out in unexpected ways to ‘deal with you'.  Dan shares why he is fond of the Grief Recovery Method and why he uses this framework with his client.  Have a map with a destination in mind, but don't look at the end goal, just take one step at a time, and you'll get there.  How does Nancy help her clients?  So many of Susan's guests have created meaning out of tragedy.   Resources Tendrilsofgrief.com Email Susan: susan@tendrilsofgrief.com Beingwithgrief.com
