Inglewood, California. Home of the 2028 Summer Olympics, birthplace of WNBA legend Lisa Leslie, setting of the Rick Famuyiwa film Dope, and in the summer of 1995 a young Aaquil Iben Shamon Brown welcomed his younger brother Khalif into the world. The duo would later be known by the noms de guerre Slim Jxmmi and Swae Lee, or more widely known as Rae Sremmurd. Two decades would pass before the brotherly pair would take the world by storm with their debut triple platinum single "No Flex Zone" and another decade still before the iconic trap track would be immortalized in a commercial so audacious, so entrancing that it captured the hearts and minds of broadcast television viewers the world over.We focus on a father sitting around the family dinner table with his wife and two daughters engaged in a battle of wills, competing to emerge victorious in a match of Hasbro's ever popular board game, Jenga. He locks in, laser focused, the dulcet tones of Slim Jxmmi and Swae Lee surround us, only to be distracted by his younger daughter with the allure of an irresistible chicken sandwich. The tower collapses, game over.Hard cut. We pan out to reveal the entire family basking in the afterglow of a hard fought battle, with a celebratory feast of east Texas' own: Wingstop. Dad has the sandwich in hand. Baskets upon baskets of their sumptuous chicken tenders, each daughter with one of their own. Ramekins of the classic house made ranch dressing placed generously around the table. The smell of freshly cut french fries fills the air. This meal has it all. Rae Sremmurd fades out, sending the viewer to a palace of nostalgic bliss. This is the vision of an idyllic world. Family, brotherhood, competition, togetherness, the American Dream, desire, Black Beatles, and fried chicken. Rae Sremmurd is a hip-hop duo consisting of real-life brothers, Slim Jxmmi and Swae Lee. These Mississippi-raised artists have come to embody a new type of mainstream music that creates a kaleidoscope of musical genres which encourages their listeners to dance, jump, or simply sing along depending upon their mood. In that sense, they're very much the encapsulation of the endless alternatives defining Generation Z. Their first two albums were monumental hits, which emboldened these two to turn their third album into an extremely experimental 3-disc project. Unfortunately, when it wasn't embraced the way they thought it might be, cracks in their foundation began to show. Rumors of discontent cropped up. Then something much worse would happen when their step-father was murdered by their own flesh and blood. A year later, Slim would be behind bars himself. Think you know what happened? Then leave your answers below -- as for the rest of you -- stay tuned for one of the craziest stories you've heard in a while on our latest episode of Where Are They Now!
On another edition of wild Wednesday on DX Daily, Kanye West has decided to speak on the alleged "alternate version" of the 2007 Kim Kardashian & Ray-J leaked sex tape, Freddie Gibbs proclaims that Pusha T has the album of the year, rapper Slim Jxmmi from Rae Sremmurd is allegedly being accused of attacking his child's mother, and Kid Cudi & J. Cole are headlining the 2022 Governor's Ball Festival. The two hail from the same small hometown as that of Elvis Presley. They worked odd end jobs with Jimmy working as a Mattress factory, Swae Lee at McDonald’s and both of them working at The Olive Garden. They put all their money into their recordings and were even living in abandoned houses in which they worked out a deal for free electricity which would light up the house parties they would throw at night.

In this week's episode, we discuss the supposed "split" of Rae Sremmurd (Swae Lee & Slim Jxmmi). In the early weeks of January 2019, Slim Jxmmi released a series of tweets indicating that the hip hop duo of Rae Sremmurd was essentially over. As this is hot topic news, we have to discuss this issue further, the concept of the viral virus, and some overall advice to Slim Jxmmi and Swae Lee. For their third album, Rae Sremmurd have released a massive triple-disc of new music. Disc One, called Sr3mm, is a spiritual successor to the first two Rae Sremmurd albums, with the artful mix of catchy hooks and shout-along verses. Disc Two is a solo album from Swae Lee called Swaecation. Disc Three is a solo album from Slim Jxmmi called Jxmtro. All together it clocks in at a staggering hour and 40 minutes. An album review by Wren Graves.Learn more about your ad choices. If you're a regular listener of the podcast you've probably noticed that we have an erratic release schedule. It's ok. Life is erratic. We've made our choices and the choice means that we don't have sponsors anymore A couple months ago we talked to the amazing Lizzo while we were in Los Angeles. She was really game for our nonsense. Marijuana products were involved in the vibe of this episode so you should have some before you listen if you want to match our level. We probably created six hit singles on accident.
