With Russian attacks in Ukraine intensifying and Trump fresh from meetings with Putin and European leaders, the question of how the U.S. and NATO should respond is more urgent than ever.Is Putin deliberately testing NATO's resolve, betting he can cross red lines without consequence? Are sanctions and weapons deliveries enough, or is it time to escalate—whether through stronger economic pressure, expanded air defense, or even shutting down airspace over Ukraine?Check out these sources that helped shape our experts' opinions: https://www.nytimes.com/2025/09/14/world/europe/romania-drone-russia-ukraine.html?unlocked_article_code=1.l08.bTAn.Cgo3MiA_TcVN&smid=nytcore-ios-share&referringSource=articleShare https://www.newsweek.com/romania-russia-drone-poland-nato-ukraine-2129521 https://www.cbsnews.com/news/romania-scrambles-fighter-jets-after-reporting-drone-incursion-russia-ukraine/ https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/c80g7g5rmlno @lestermunson@jamil_n_jaffer@marthamillerdc@NotTVJessJonesLike what we're doing here? Wildfire crews do important work managing wildfires, but that work is often done without masks. A recent New York Times investigation found many wildfire fighters are getting cancer, cardiovascular diseases and have died because of the toxic smoke they inhaled while on the job. Researchers at the U.S. The Forest Service have recommended wildfire crews be required to wear masks for decades, but the agency has refused. Today, Martha, Les, and Matt discuss the most dangerous escalation in Southeast Asia in over a decade. A deadly border conflict between Thailand and Cambodia—long simmering over disputed territory and sacred temples—has erupted into full-scale fighting. Over just five days, artillery, rockets, and airstrikes left 36 dead and hundreds injured, with civilians fleeing on both sides. President Trump issued an unprecedented economic threat: a 36% tariff on all Thai and Cambodian exports if the conflict doesn't cease by August 1. The move jolted both economies and raised questions about how American trade power might be used to prevent regional wars. What does this border conflict say about the limits of diplomacy and economic pressure? Will Trump's tariff ultimatum succeed where international mediation has failed? And how should the U.S. balance its strategic interests in Southeast Asia as great power rivalries heat up?Check out the answers to these questions and more in this episode of Fault Lines.Check out the sources that helped shape our Fellows' discussions: https://www.nytimes.com/2025/07/28/world/asia/thailand-cambodia-ceasefire-talks.html?smid=nytcore-ios-share&referringSource=articleShare https://www.wsj.com/world/asia/thailand-and-cambodia-consider-cease-fire-after-calls-with-trump-on-border-clashes-5c22f92e Follow our experts on Twitter: @marthamillerdc@lestermunson@WMattHaydenLike what we're doing here? Today, Morgan, Martha, Les, and Jess break down the results of Greenland's parliamentary elections and what they mean for U.S. strategy in the Arctic. With high voter turnout and the center-right Demokraatit (Democracy) party gaining the largest portion of parliamentary seats, Greenland is navigating a complex path between independence, Denmark, and U.S. influence—just as President Trump openly raises the possibility of annexation. How will Greenland's new leadership shape relations with the U.S. and Europe? As China and Russia eye Arctic resources, does the U.S. have a real strategy beyond inflammatory rhetoric? And with Denmark frustrated by Trump's remarks, is the administration undermining NATO just as Arctic security concerns grow?Check out the answers to these questions and more in this episode of Fault Lines.Check out the sources that helped shape our Fellows' discussion: https://apnews.com/article/greenland-election-demokraatit-trump-arctic-13c295cbc716db2c8011be5819e11fefhttps://www.npr.org/2025/03/13/nx-s1-5325949/greenland-elections-trump-independence https://www.nytimes.com/2025/03/12/world/europe/greenland-election.html?smid=nytcore-ios-share&referringSource=articleShare&sgrp=c&pvid=184EF2B4-0541-43F1-B6F3-E41C7A362BF7 Follow our experts on Twitter: @lestermunson@marthamillerdc@NotTVJessJones @morganlroachLike what we're doing here? With declining church attendance and shifting values, there's no denying that our culture's posture toward Christianity has changed. Some say America is now “post-Christian,” but author Aaron Renn believes it is downright “anti-Christian.” In a recent NY Times profile, Renn explains why he thinks Christianity now occupies a “negative world,” and why the winsome approach of leaders like Tim Keller should be abandoned for more aggressive tactics. Then, Phil talks with legendary musician, songwriter, and producer Charlie Peacock about his new memoir, “Roots in Rhythm: A Life in Music.” Also this week, a leaked memo reveals the real impact of Trump's foreign aid cuts and immigration policy, and what exhibits would you add to the Museum of Failure?   Holy Post Plus: Bonus Interview: https://www.patreon.com/posts/124128840/   Ad-free Version of this episode: https://www.patreon.com/posts/124154267/ 0:00 - Show Starts   2:35 - Theme Song   2:00 - Sponsor - World Relief - Visit https://worldrelief.org/STAND to join The Path to support vulnerable communities around the world!   3:10 - Sponsor - Bushnell University - Equip yourself to be transformative in your community! Can contemplating death inform a better life

According to Chaplain Devin Sean Moss, death “informs how we live.” The idea of impermanence —the notion that everything is in a constant state of flux— and a “meditation on finitude,” Moss suggests, is a  “cheat code of sorts to making deliberate and intentional decisions and forces the hand of what are my values…to know what my core is about.”    For most people,  the subject and contemplation of death and dying is hardly a source of inpiration. We fill our lives  with work, travel,  and spending time with friends and family. These are life affirming activities to keep our minds from wandering too far down to our inevitable end.  For Devin Moss, confronting death has been both equally a sobering  and inspiring journey. As a Humanist Chaplain, Devin Moss forged a year-long bond with Phillip Hancock who was executed by the state of Oklahoma for a double murder. Moss’s experience was chronicled by the New York Times and the subject of an earlier Life Examined. More: Facing death without God: Spiritual care in the final hours of a death row inmate Today, Moss writes and hosts the podcast The Adventures of Memento Mori in which he explores the science, mysticism, culture, and mystery of death. Moss regularly grapples with his own mortality and says its a mistake for our culture to shy away from the topic - “the inability to talk about it on a societal level has very harmful byproducts.” Moss suggests that the message society perpetuates is that there is a misunderstanding of what it means to be finite, and that “everything is limitless.”   And when it comes to death itself, Moss urges listeners not to be deterred by fear or not knowing what to do or say. “Just be okay with the unknown and do all that you can do to make it about the other person, to heck with being good at it or knowing what you're doing.” For Moss, it’ss “the ability, not what I can learn from this person as they pass, but more like, how can I ensure that their passing is maintained as a sacred act within a sacred space.”  Delve deeper into life, philosophy, and what makes us human by joining the Life Examined discussion group on Facebook.

The Rich Zeoli Show- Full Episode (03/14/2024): 3:05pm- On Wednesday, the House of Representatives voted in favor of the Protecting Americans from Foreign Adversary Controlled Applications Act—a bill that would force TikTok's parent company ByteDance to divest its ownership in the social media application, citing its ties to the Chinese government. If they did not divest, the application would be banned in the United States. The legislation passed with bipartisan support 352 to 65, with those in support expressing fear that the Chinese government may be able to access American user data. But notable politicians in opposition—like former President Donald Trump, Senator Rand Paul (R-KY), Congressman Thomas Massie (R-KY), and House Freedom Caucus Chair Scott Perry (R-PA)—have all cited fears that the bill could be used as tool for government officials to interfere with speech on all social media companies. The bill will now head to the Senate—though, Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) has not committed to putting it up for a vote. President Joe Biden has vowed to sign the bill into law if it ultimately arrives at his desk. Shouldn't individuals be allowed to choose which products they use? Or is the risk of the Chinese government gaining access to American user data too great to respect individual autonomy and free markets in this instance? Senator Elizabeth Warren has suggested that the bill doesn't go far enough to prevent social media's influence, explaining that she wants “curbs in place on social media across the board,” according to Politico.  3:35pm- Matthew Petti of Reason writes: “The Biden administration has used the specter of ‘disinformation' to push social media moderation in line with their policies. Meta has censored Middle Eastern content that opposes U.S. foreign policy, while Twitter has created loopholes for the U.S. military to run its own propaganda accounts. Of course, American law (unlike Chinese or Iranian law) limits how much the government can censor social media. Last year, courts banned and then unbanned the Biden administration from pressuring social media moderators. But the decision ultimately lies in Washington; it's not like European or Latin American voters have any say over the U.S. Supreme Court. Competition is the strongest force keeping the internet free. Whenever users find a topic banned on TikTok, they can escape to Twitter or Instagram to discuss the censored content. And when Twitter or Instagram enforce politically motivated censorship on a different topic, users can continue that discussion on TikTok. Forcing TikTok under American control is a way to block that escape route. Instead of protecting Americans from Chinese censorship, it would bring Chinese-style censorship home.” You can read more here: https://reason.com/2024/03/13/tiktoks-opponents-want-chinese-style-censorship-in-america/ 4:05pm- Nate Benefield—Senior Vice President of the Commonwealth Foundation—joins The Rich Zeoli Show to discuss Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro's (D) announced plans for a new carbon tax. If they did not divest, the application would be banned in the United States. Shouldn't individuals be allowed to choose which products they use? Or is the risk of the Chinese government gaining access to American user data too great to respect individual autonomy and free markets in this instance? 4:40pm- While appearing on Meet the Press Now with host Yamiche Alcindor, Congressman Jake Auchincloss (D-MA)—who cosponsored the House bill that could potentially ban TikTok—explained: “So, the first step is ‘ok TikTok you're subject to U.S. law.' The second step ‘ok all social media corporations, you're going to have to answer to Congress.'” 4:55pm- Shayna Jacobs and Devlin Barrett of The Washington Post report: “Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg is suggesting a one-month delay in the pending March 25 trial of Donald Trump, a surprising twist in what is expected to be the first criminal trial of a former president.” You can read the full article here: https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2024/03/14/trump-trial-hush-money-delay/ 5:05pm Dr. Victoria Coates— Former Deputy National Security Advisor & the Vice President of the Davis Institute for National Security and Foreign Policy at The Heritage Foundation—joins The Rich Zeoli Show to respond to Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer's outlandish call for Israel to replace Benjamin Netanyahu as prime minister. Schumer has regularly condemned foreign nations for meddling in American elections—isn't he now guilty of interfering in the election process of a democratic ally? Plus, new memos indicate Hunter Biden may have partnered with a Chinese energy firm to acquire Westinghouse, an American-based nuclear technology company. And could former U.S. Secretary of the Treasury Steve Mnuchin buy TikTok? In response to the news, Lemon appeared on CNN with Erin Burnett—accusing Musk of using the same rhetoric as “radicalized shooters.” 5:50pm- Was True Detective Season 4 the worst season of the series? Paul explained his opposition to the legislation: "You cannot take people's property without due process. If you believe there is a national security exception to the Constitution, then you believe that Fox News could be shut down and that Twitter could be shut down." 6:20pm- While appearing on Meet the Press Now with host Yamiche Alcindor, Congressman Jake Auchincloss (D-MA)—who cosponsored the House bill that could potentially ban TikTok—explained: “So, the first step is ‘ok TikTok you're subject to U.S. law.' The entertainment giant had worked with the China Global Television Network (CGTN) to produce a documentary series, called ‘World's Ultimate Frontier,' about the Xinjiang region. The series conspicuously declined to mention Beijing's ongoing atrocities against Uyghurs and other minority groups and instead portrayed the area as a thriving cultural and industrial hub, leading Representative Jim Banks to accuse Warner Bros. of ‘whitewashing' the abuses.” You can read Quinn's full report here: https://www.nationalreview.com/2024/03/warner-bros-distances-itself-from-partnership-with-chinese-propaganda-outlet/ In a post on the social media platform X, Tucker Carlson wrote: “In a classified briefing this afternoon, attended by officials from the Biden Justice Department, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez claimed that Elon committed ‘election interference' in 2022 by ‘changing the algorithms' on X to alter the results of the midterms that year. Not coincidentally, the anti-TikTok legislation now being debated on the Hill would allow the federal government to force the sale of any social media platform that interferes in elections. Just so you know what's coming in 2025.” Should TikTok be banned? Last week, the House Energy and Commerce Committee voted 50-0 to advance a bill that would ban TikTok or force ByteDance (TikTok's parent company) to sell the social media platform to an entity removed from Chinese influence. The Rich Zeoli Show- Full Episode (03/12/2024): 3:05pm- On Tuesday, the House Judiciary Committee held a hearing on Department of Justice (DOJ) Special Counsel Robert Hur's investigation into then-Vice President Joe Biden's mishandling of classified documents when he left office. During one notable exchange, Rep. Pramila Jayapal (D-WA) vociferously stated that Hur's report “exonerated” Biden of all wrongdoing—Hur then interjected that his report to the DOJ did not amount to an exoneration, nor was “exoneration” used at any point in the report. While being questioned by Rep. Kevin Kiley (R-CA), Hur reiterated that “the report is not an exoneration” and confirmed that a reasonable jury could have voted to convict Biden if the case had ever been brought to trial. Hurr also confirmed that the Biden Administration did, in fact, recommend “edits” to an initial draft of the report prior to its public release. 3:30pm- On Tuesday, transcripts of Special Counsel Robert Hur's interview with President Joe Biden over his mishandling of classified documents were released. Leif Le Mathieu of The Daily Wire writes: “Hur's February report concluded that Biden willfully retained classified documents but recommended no criminal charges in part because it said that Biden had a faulty memory and would appear as a sympathetic old man to a jury. One of the key details included in the report was that Biden did not remember the year his son Beau died. Biden said that he was taken aback by a question about his son, claiming that it was Hur who brought up the death… The transcripts, obtained by ABC, show that it was actually Biden who brought up his son… Biden also discussed moving boxes, which were full of classified documents, out of the way in his garage to park his car. He said he did not know what was in the boxes. ‘I remember moving boxes, literally physically moving them, with help, one side to the other so I could get the Corvette in that garage on the left,' Biden said. Other portions of the transcript show Biden talking about his Corvette and ‘making car sounds.'” You can read the full article here: https://www.dailywire.com/news/released-transcripts-show-biden-lied-about-key-detail-in-documents-probe 3:45pm- During Tuesday's House Judiciary Committee hearing, while being questioned by Rep. Kelly Armstrong (R-ND), Special Counsel Robert Hur said that there is an audio recording from February 2017 featuring Joe Biden speaking with his ghostwriter and explicitly referencing “classified” documents that he found in his house. At another point, Hur told committee Chairman Jim Jordan (R-OH) that Biden's ghostwriter appeared to attempt to delete the audio file but failed. 4:05pm- During Tuesday's House Judiciary Committee hearing on Joe Biden's mishandling of classified documents, Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA) accused Special Counsel Robert Hur of using “pejorative” language in his report to the Department of Justice as part of an attempt to “ignite a political firestorm.” 4:20pm- On Sunday, Rep. Nancy Mace (R-SC) appeared on ABC's This Week with George Stephanopoulos. During the interview, Stephanopoulos questioned Mace's endorsement of Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump—saying Mace is endorsing a candidate accused of sexual assault. Mace responded by correctly noting that Trump has never been criminally convicted of assault. She continued, “you're asking me a question about my political choices—trying to shame me as a rape victim. And I find it disgusting.” 4:30pm- Byron Tau—Investigative Journalist for The Wall Street Journal and Politico—joins The Rich Zeoli Show to discuss his new book, “Means of Control: How the Hidden Alliance of Tech and Government is Creating a New American Surveillance State.” Tau explains that, disturbingly, elements of the American government—including police agencies—have been purchasing user data from little known data brokers. This methodology of data acquisition allows these government agents and agencies to bypass the Constitution's Fourth Amendment, which prohibits “unreasonable searches and seizures.” 4:50pm- Should TikTok be banned?
