**Content Note - this episode contains some references to being suffocated with a pillow, sexual assault, domestic violence and abuse.Dr Adrienne Maclain loves connecting – through her podcast That's Aloud and through writing her books, starting with her memoir, Melting Ivory – Life happens for you, not to you and her new release step-by-step guide Enough – Breaking the cycle of emotional abuse in romantic relationships. You can get a copy of Adrienne's books* by clicking here Melting Ivory – Life happens for you, not to you and her follow up book with help for you after reading her first book and opening your awareness, Enough – Breaking the cycle of emotional abuse in romantic relationships.Adrienne understands the first step to leaving an abusive relationship is the awareness of the abuse itself and the Why you are in this situation - but then what? The next step is the how of getting out of these relationships and the importance of making the changes yourself that are needed to leave this relationship and also to learn how to avoid being caught in the pattern of abuse after leaving. The understanding of the how came out of her own lived-in experiences, of which we will hear more in today's episode. From one of her recent podcasts on that's aloud, she conversed on thoughtful topics, such as “Saying No is not the end of the conversation – it is the beginning.” And “Literally anything is possible, now the question is, what challenges are you willing to take on to do something highly improbably?” She is known for helping others harness creative energy and storytelling including through asking the question, What is the story that is not being told to the world right now?.... Could that be yours? This is one of the reasons I am so excited to have her on the show today, as a woman whose vision is so aligned with my own passion for sharing and honouring stories and teaching you how to do it yourself, by giving you the permission to live a fulfilling life and the toolkit to follow through with action. In her own words, “You can be still, you can just be. You can create something for just fun, you can be everything you are, without apology. That's aloud.” Our Story Whisperer, Adrienne MacLain.Adrienne's recommended book reading* includes Gift from the Sea by Anne Morrow Lindbergh, The Artist's Journey: The Wake of the Hero's Journey and the Lifelong Pursuit of Meaning by Steven Pressfield and Big Magic: How to Live a Creative Life, and Let Go of Your Fear by Elizabeth Gilbert you can grab your own copy here on Amazon. I'm always telling my clients to celebrate their victories. To take a moment at the end of a cycle to look back on just how far they've come and how much they've grown. So, now that I've wrapped the third(!) season of That's Aloud, I decided to take my own advice. Before diving into Season 4: 2020 Hindsight, which debuts on Thursday May 6th, I took the time to think back on this incredible journey, and share a few moments that have stayed with me. This is by no means the "best of" season 3--that would be a completely different collection depending on who put it together. In fact, I would love to hear what YOUR highlight reel would have included. If you leave me a voice message with your biggest take-away from season 3 I'll include it in next week's episode, which will be a sneak preview of what's to come in season 4! --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/thats-aloud/support

I often describe myself as "a muse with follow-through." But what do I mean when I call myself--or any human, for that matter--a muse? What does it mean to deliberately act as an intermediary between the mysterious forces of inspiration and creators (ourselves included)? To go from incidental inspirer to intentional creation coach? I fervently believe that anyone can be a muse. Listen to find out how! Prefer a written version? You can find one here, on the That's Aloud blog.
