Today's Reading: Small Catechism: Baptism, pt. 3 Daily Lectionary: 1 Kings 18:1-19; Ephesians 1:1-23 Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. For the promise is for you and for your children and for all who are far off, everyone whom the Lord our God calls to himself. (Acts 2:38-39) In the Name + of Jesus. Amen. When I was 11 years old, I went with my best friend to his Baptist Bible camp. I had a good time most of the week. (I mean, it was not as good as an HT Conference, but nothing is!) The last night there, one of the counselors told me that since I was baptized as a baby, I should decide to be baptized again so that it would be more meaningful rather than something my parents chose for me. I came home with a brain swamped by questions. Had my parents made a mistake and done things wrong? Did my Baptism mean anything since I didn't choose it? The worst question of all was wondering what would happen if my parents or pastor found out that I was questioning my Baptism! I (WRONGLY) imagined it would go badly for me, so I kept my questions to myself, which only made things worse. Thankfully God knew how to rescue me from these doubts without my asking Him to. During confirmation classes about two years later, Pastor Rauschek and Mrs. MacLain used the Scriptures and the Small Catechism to teach us the answers to all the questions I was too afraid to talk about. I learned that Baptism means what God says it means. It is a life-giving water, rich in grace no matter when it happens in a person's life. My parents had made no mistake getting me baptized about a week after I was born. Again and again the Scriptures rejoice over all the things that God does in Baptism and really does not say much about what you and I do there! He unites us to Christ's death and resurrection (Romans 6), gives us a new birth from above (John 3), washes away our sins and pours the Holy Spirit into our hearts (Titus 3). Best of all, God's promises in Baptism are for adults and for children (Acts 2). And there is nothing I could do to make it more meaningful than that! In the Name + of Jesus. Amen. Sin, disturb my soul no longer: I am baptized into Christ! I have comfort even stronger: Jesus' cleansing sacrifice. Should a guilty conscience seize me since my Baptism did release me In a dear forgiving flood, Sprinkling me with Jesus' blood? From Maclain Nelsons “Once I was a Beehive” comes the romantic comedy “Once I was Engaged,” a new spinoff with returning characters. Moviegoers can expect a “rollercoaster of emotions” as they follow Bree Carrington, played by Nelson's wife Clare Niederpruem, as she navigates her engagement. In this interview with BYU-Idaho Radio, Nelson said filming movies with his spouse was an overall rewarding and fun experience, because he gets to spend so much time with her.
The year was 1998, and football season was well underway. Timpview and Highland were neck and neck. This was unheard of. Clearly, Timpview was the underdog. And yet the score was super close. Timpview 41, Highland 40. In the last few seconds of the game, while the Highland QB threw what was going to be the winning touchdown, their moment of undying glory, little Maclain Nelson stepped up and intercepted it! Timpview won!! They beat Highland! Oh man, those were the glory days, and Maclain loves it when I tell that story, which is why I shared it publicly on this podcast! But for reals, Maclain and my history go back to good old 9th grade. And amidst all the sports practices, Mac found a love of filmmaking. Back then it was little videos for High school assemblies. This evolved into feature film directing. After a myriad of projects, Maclain wrote and directed "Once I was a Beehive." It slowly but surely captured some die hard fans. Years later he created the spinoff stand alone feature "Once I was Engaged" which is currently in theaters. Mac worked his magic again and created a fun and memorable world in this Rom Com that teaches incredible lessons about truly following your heart when making life changing decisions. It is so good and you should check it out! You can find all details of screenings here: www.onceiwasengaged.comWe had a great time reminiscing and chatting about the process of making this film and all the incredible memories he made with friends. Enjoy!

Suze Maclain Pont is a business coach and trauma therapist who helps entrepreneurs create financial harmony. Through her own experience of battling suicidal depression in her early twenties and unexpectedly becoming a single mother at thirty, she learnt to reconnect with who she is and why she faced certain recurring patterns of behaviour. She created a way of life in which her work became completely aligned with the things she loved doing and what she believed in, and gave her time to be really present for her loved ones. She discovered that money is not key freedom, but that freedom is key to attracting money into your life. She now teaches others this way of being in which her clients create financial freedom whilst forging a beautiful relationship with life. Unlike most business coaches, she helps her clients slow down so they can speed up in areas of their life that really matter to them. In this emotional yet often light hearted conversation, Suze opens up about the events that made her feel so alone and unable to connect with others or seek support. Over time, and with the help of the right kind of support and training, she has come out the other side radiant and resilient. You can learn more about her and get in touch with her via her website.

Adrienne MacIain PhD, a.k.a. The Story Whisperer, is a professional story coach who delights in using her PhD in Drama to help people spin the mucky straw of life experience into narrative gold. She's lived on three different continents, had three different last names, and her voice can be heard in at least three different video games. Adrienne is the creator and host of the That's Aloud podcast, where she uses her unique story discernment process to help folks find the stories they're not telling, and deliver them to the audience that most needs to hear them. Because a story locked inside of us colors everything we do; a story outside of us serves as a beacon of hope and inspiration to others.
Deeper and deeper we go, this weeks episode covers Adriennes story of escaping a horrific marriage. Listen closely with an open heart and mind. Crooks made the mistake of underestimating private detectives Max Carrados and Captain Duncan Maclain because both men were blind. After you hear their radio adventures, you'll know that a lack of sight doesn't stand in the way of these gentlemen as they solve seemingly impossible murders. Ernest Bramah's gentlemanly Carrados (voiced by Alfred Shirley) stars in "The Holloway Flat Tragedy" from Murder Clinic (originally aired on Mutual on August 18, 1942). Then, Baynard Kendrick's Maclain (played here by Brian Donlevy) is heard in "Out of Control" from Suspense (originally aired on CBS on August 23, 1946).

Chapman and Maclain Way are the directors behind Netflix’s six-part docuseries Wild Wild Country, a deep dive into the unbelievable story of a new age meditation cult active in the 1980s, its creation of a vast commune in rural Oregon, and its ongoing conflicts with their neighbors, a small conservative community of only 60 people. Complete with orgies, drugged beer, voter and immigration fraud, religious prejudice, assault rifles, government intervention, and attempted murder, 'Wild Wild Country' skillfully waffles opinions of the complicated and dramatic conflict back and forth, forcing audiences to think critically, and leaving us wondering, in every possible way, who’s side are we on? Chapman and Maclain share their experiences creating this hugely successful series. Behind True Crime is sponsored by Hunt A Killer, the monthly murder mystery subscription box service. We implore you, have you seen the six-part Netflix docu-series WILD WILD COUNTRY yet? If not, what are you waiting for? When the Rajneesh movement and their leader the Bhagwan came to rural Oregon in the 1980s was it just a clash of cultures (worldly orange-clad hippies vs. conservative townspeople) or a mafia-style hostile takeover? The directors Maclain and Chapman Way have crafted a twisting drama with unearthed videotape of the Rajneeshpuram saga, plus new interviews with many key players. While most of you reading this may not know the name Bhagwan Rajneesh, those who were around to watch the news in the early 1980s can tell you that he was a massive story around the country. That’s because Rajneesh and his followers spent $125 million back in 1981 to build Rajneeshpuram in in the Oregon desert, a 64,000-acre “utopia,” complete with a hospital, schools, restaurants, a shopping mall, and their own airport. What happened there and in the surrounding area is so far-fetched that you won’t believe it’s all true. One of the great things about the doc is the way the filmmakers weave footage from the actual events in alongside new interviews with the people involved. Our guest is journalist-podcaster/multi-hyphenate Los Angeles native, Richard Parks III. Richard has written for Lucky Peach, the New York Times, and McSweeney's. He has created a radio drama with Wayne Coyne, the short doc Music Man Murray, a documentary about Biosphere2, and contributed to Snap Judgement and KCRW’s Lost Notes.Follow Richard on:Twitter: @reechardparksInstagram: @reechardparksFollow us on:Twitter: @supdocpodcastInstagram: @supdocpodcastFacebook: @supdocpodcastsign up for our mailing listAnd you can show your support to Sup Doc by donating on Patreon.
http://www.imdb.com/name/nm6195256/ (Maclain) and http://www.imdb.com/name/nm6195255/ (Chapman Way) have recently directed, edited, produced one of the most talked about Netflix docuseries of the year, https://www.vanityfair.com/hollywood/2018/04/wild-wild-country-netflix-cult-documentary-interview-bhagwan-shree-rajneesh-antelope-oregon-sheela-rajneeshpuram (Wild Wild Country). They have become one of the hottest, most sought after doc filmmaking duos around. Of course, their success didn't happen overnight. From taking some calculated, but brazen risks with their first doc, http://www.imdb.com/title/tt3445270/ (The Battered Bastards of Baseball) to taking two separate trips to Switzerland to woo the critical character of https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ma_Anand_Sheela (Ma Anand Sheela) for Wild Wild Country to convincing the people over to Netflix that they had a great new idea for a docuseries, the Way brothers will inspire you to live and lead your doc lives in ways you probably haven't yet thought of. Which is why, after hearing our conversation with Mac & Chap, you will be left with the feeling that they are truly #doclifers, just like you and I.
