A song that redefined a career and charted a new course for an entire generation, a cover that looks back on that new course and smiles, and a version that fit the film because that's the job it had to do. You Don't Own Me, originally by Lesley Gore, covered by Joan Jett, and by The Blow Monkeys. Outro music is Bad Reputation, also by Joan Jett.

Jonathan and Richard welcome to the studio the one and only San Juan Record Man, Jeff. He's brought a selection of influential female punk musicians from his personal collection, including Blondie, The Runaways, and the Godmother of Punk herself, Patti Smith.
Nerds everywhere rejoice. Jonathan's spinning a special edition of the Guardians of the Galaxy original film soundtrack. It's actually pretty good.
What a CreepSeason 16, Episode 7Kim FowleyRock CreepWhen Kim Fowley died of bladder cancer on January 15, 2015, most headlines read that he was an underground rock and roll/LA legend who managed “The Runaways” in the 1970s. He was a tall, peculiar eccentric who never had the fame he craved but had a cult-like following of slavish fans who will miss him. Some outlets, like, NPR, mentioned he was a Svengali who seemed to prey on teenage girls. In reality, everything you have heard about (and will hear today) about him is true. He was a striking, creative, intelligent artist/salesman and a cruel, ugly, pathetic, sexually abusive creep who left several women in his wake. He never paid for his crimes, but he was never a financial success either. He was NEVER as famous as he wanted to be. His body & mind, which he used to dominate and hurt others, failed him throughout his life.Trigger Warnings: Sexual Assault, Verbal Abuse, & Drug UseSources:Kim Fowley WikipediaLoudwireEW.com Jackie Fox Accuses Kim Fowley of RapeHuff Post.comPitchfork.comPitchfork 2Evelyn McDonald's Blog PopulismEvelyn McDonald Queens of Noise: The Real Story of The Runaways (2014)Cheri Curie Neon Angel: A Memoir of a Runaway (1989/2010)Kim Fowley: Lord of Garbage (2012)VultureThe GuardianLos Angeles TimesJackie Fox Facebook PostKathy Valentine's Facebook PostBoing BoingEdgeplay: A Film About the Runaways by former Runways bassist Victory Tischler-Blue (2004) aka “Vicky Blue.”Be sure to follow us on social media. Dust off your tinfoil hats, Pop Screen is going conspiracy barmy with this week's episode on 1983's Wavelength. A Roger Corman-produced science fiction thriller starring The Runaways' Cherie Currie as a psychic who guides her singer-songwriter friend towards a military base full of captured extraterrestrials, it's notable for a great Tangerine Dream score, striking location shooting at LA's ominous Lookout Mountain facility, and having nearly been released before Spielberg's ET before it was delayed for additional special effects work. This week, Rob from Directors Uncut rejoins the podcast to look at this unjustly forgotten film, talk about the legacy of The Runaways and look at the many famous films that Currie was nearly in. We also end with some praise for Peter Bogdanovich and some pleasingly gratuitous slams towards an old podcast enemy... Episode 14, AJ talks to Jimmy Harold. Jimmy was the owner of one of the most historical clubs in the history of Boston Rock: The Rathskeller. The Rat (as it is better known as) was located in the heart of Kenmore Square and was the epicenter of Boston's punk rock scene. Legendary European Punk Bands made their American debut there. Local bands dreamed of the day they took the stage there. And in true rock and roll fashion it was as dingy and dark as you can imagine. From 1974 to 1997 Jimmy Harold seen it all. Sure NY had CBGBs, but Boston had The Rat! Let the discussion begin …..

Perhaps Radio Titans' most outrageous episode of all time: Kim Vincent Fowley (July 21, 1939 – January 15, 2015) was an American record producer, singer and musician. He is best known for his role behind a string of novelty and cult pop rock singles in the 1960s, and for managing the Runaways in the 1970s. He has been described as "one of the most colorful characters in the annals of rock & roll," as well as "a shadowy cult figure well outside the margins of the mainstream."
