Viac ako 115 rokov slúžila väznica Lukiškes pre najhorších trestancov, politických väzňov aj na popravy. Tá posledná sa tam udiala ešte v roku 1995, poslední väzni odišli z ciel len pred štyrmi rokmi. Dnes je väznica neďaleko centra litovského Vilniusu jednou z najväčších atrakcií krajiny. Turistov sem lákajú nielen fascinujúce priestory, autentické väzenské cely či výklad o tom, ako sa dovnútra dal prepašovať mobil, ale aj seriál Stranger Things, ktorého posledné epizódy sa nahrávali práve v priestoroch väznice. Netradičná atrakcia je len jednou zo zastávok, ktoré by ste mali absolvovať na ceste po Litve. Vďaka priamemu leteckému spojeniu Bratislavy a Kaunasu sa Litva stáva pre Slovákov oveľa dostupnejšia. V najnovšej epizóde cestovateľského podcastu sme sa preto so Štefanom Buganom a Danielou Hajčákovou rozprávali o najzaujímavejších miestach – nezávislej republike Užupis v centre Vilniusu, stredovekom vodnom hrade Trakai či o street arte v uliciach Kaunasu. Tras esto llegan nuestros recorridos por España, y en esta ocasión el guía oficial Manuel Granado nos lleva a conocer en la provincia de Guadalajara, la muy hermosa villa de Sigüenza, con interesantes recursos naturales y monumentales, como el mítico Doncel de Sigüenza, y una rica gastronomía. Y hablando de grandes viajeros, en el inicio de la segunda hora el historiador y profesor en la Autónoma de Barcelona Bernat Hernández nos trae la vida y viajes de Bartolomé de las Casas. El periodista, escritor, ecologista y muchas cosas más Benigno Varillas nos acompaña unos minutos para contarnos que es Paleolítico Vivo y que implica el término Biolítico. Think back to where you were two years ago today. For me, I was in Trakai, Lithuania. It was Day 4 of our 10th annual Sovereign Academy entrepreneurship camp. My dear friends Bill and Marco were giving a joint lecture to the students on hiring, firing, and building culture within a business. Craig Ballantyne was up next with a talk about Instagram marketing. And I was going to finish up the afternoon with a presentation on sales and negotiation. Maybe you were on holiday. Or, since August 4, 2019 was a Sunday, perhaps you were spending a relaxing weekend with family and friends. Now imagine if someone had come up to you two years ago and said-- A few months from now, a novel Coronavirus will spread around the world. The virus will definitely be a problem, and a LOT of people will needlessly die. Yet government data will eventually show the virus to have a 98.3% survival rate… and a survival rate of more than 99.8% for people under the age of 75 who aren't morbidly obese. Despite this data, however, the virus will be treated as the worst thing in the history of the world by politicians, the media, and unelected public health officials. They will wage a crusade to eradicate the world of this virus, no matter the cost. They will systematically dismantle the core pillars of modern society, from private property rights to individual liberty. Some of the most advanced representative democracies in the world, like Australia, will literally deploy the military to the streets in order to keep people locked in their homes… essentially at gunpoint. And governments will indebt themselves by tens of trillions of dollars, going so far as to pay people to stay at home and NOT work. Politicians will assume unlimited spending authority and use the pandemic as an excuse for every entitlement pet project they've ever conceived. Inflation around the world will surge as a result of this orgy of debt and money printing, but central bankers will dismiss the data and pretend that everything is fine. Meanwhile, the scientific community will lose all objectivity. They'll claim, for example, that protesters against racial injustice are exempt from following public health lockdowns because of their moral righteousness. Yet simultaneously they'll say that people protesting against public health lockdowns are a danger to society. Pharmaceuticals companies will be given total immunity from prosecution and liability to develop a host of vaccines to combat the spread of the virus. The initial clinical trial data will show significant promise in keeping people safe from severe infection. However long-term studies, by definition, will not exist for a number of years. Despite these limitations, world governments will push these vaccines on the global population. Some will make vaccination mandatory; others will subjugate the unvaccinated population and take away their most basic freedoms until they submit. Personal choice will no longer be an option. Anyone who hesitates or dares ask a question will be ridiculed as a selfish murder by social media. And the Big Tech companies will squash intellectual dissent. Even prize-winning, highly respected scientists will be censored for expressing views that don't conform to the official narrative. And then, after nearly 18 months, just when you think the pandemic is over, a new variant will emerge… and public health officials will go right back to the same policies all over again. If someone had said this to you two years ago, you might have thought they were completely delusional. And yet, all of it has happened. It's been a long time since I've written about this topic.  That's partly because of my wishful thinking that the worst had subsided. But to be perfectly honest, I've also steered clear of the topic lately because I didn't feel like being canceled by Big Tech. Anne-Marie Howald is well know in the rowing world, having represented Switzerland at the 1987 & 88 World Championships as a lightweight, and now as the Head Coach of the U23 and Junior Squad. In 2018, Anne-Marie was awarded the “Swiss Olympic Coach Award” for the impressive achievements of the junior national team at the European Championships in Krefeld and the World Championships in Trakai. Anne-Marie leads the talent identification of young rowers in Switzerland, with the 'Future Rowers' programme that takes promising young athletes through to the Elite level. Rav Nochum Partzovitz (1923-1986), was most known for his approach to Talmudic study, which gained renown within the Yeshiva world. Having grown up in the Vilna suburb of Trakai, he proceeded to study at the great Yeshivas of Baranovitch, Kamenitz and finally Mir, from which he never left. Through the war years in Shanghai, where he studied together with Rav Leib Malin, through the post war years in New York, he established himself as the elite of the Mir Yeshiva student body. This reputation was cemented with his marriage to Rebbetzin Ettel, daughter of Rav Chaim Shmuelevitz, and Rav Nochum's subsequent appointment to the position as Rosh Yeshiva. With his simplicity, modesty and his popular shiurim, Rav Nochum was a beloved Rebbi in the Mir Yeshiva and a beloved individual to all who knew him.   This yahrtzeit episode was originally recorded exclusively for Mir Yeshiva Yerushalayim. @luijo is a DJ and record curator based in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. He has been delivering less commercial forms of house and techno since 2002. Luijo is the emblematical Deep Techno and Dub Techno artist in his country. Currently, he performs worldwide. He was the resident DJ of the now closed club “The Warehouse DR” the largest undeground house and techno venue in the Caribbean and home for more than 2000 dancers each weekend. The conceptual approach of his music concentrates on building atmospheres and creating plenty of space between sounds, constructing a very harmonious balance between sound and silence. He understands music and scenery as a whole. His insightful musical vision can drive from the most penetrating and perceptive deep techno sounds, to the warmest, soul touching house rhythms. The refined mysticism transmitted through his music is inspired from both visual and sensual aspects of nature. For him, music is the perfect linkage between the listener and his environments. He constructs a unique atmosphere that can be the perfect start off, as well as the peak time outbreak, envisioning a flawless combination between a core full of crispy dub sounds and smooth minimal touches around the edges. His powerful delivery of rare and elegant music is his well-known trademark. Luijo passed through various styles of music since an early age, such as Classical, Jazz, Baroque, Rock and Heavy Metal, receiving guitar lessons accordingly. For several years, he studied music composition and gained acceptance to the National Conservatory of Music. Collecting records, crate digging and learning about computer-based music became his prominent hobby. His record collection now holds more than a 3000 vinyl records, from house and techno to classical and piano solo. In the years 2003-2004 he collaborated as a volunteer with 97.5 FM Radio “Sonido Tribal” which earlier evolved as Visionario Radio Show, with guest mixes featuring underground house and techno. Being at Simon Black's Sovereign Academy event this year was phenomenal. I met fantastic students and people truly interested in learning. There may have been multiple languages, but everyone had a singular focus. They were there to learn the language of being entrepreneurs and investors. Man, it was exciting. It was totally worth the really, really long flight! In this episode we cover a lot of ground. Sveiki, aš Agnė.Today we will try to work a little bit on the pronunciation of Lithuanian "dvibalsiai" - diphthongs. I know a lot of students are struggling with this, so let's practice. There are nine dvibalsiai in Lithuanian:ai, au, ei, eu, ie, oi, ou, uo, ui, let's try to repeat each of them slowly:ai or ai - if the stress is on the letter a, it sounds like in mine,  - laimė, baimė, kailis, laiškas If the stress is on the letter i, it sounds like this: vaikas, baigti, Klaipėda, laikas (letter l has to be pronounced hard) Klaipėda, not Kleipėda, laikas, not leikas. the second diphthong…au or au - if the stress is on the letter a, it sounds like in house,  - aura, auksas, apgaulė, pasaulis if the stress is on the letter u, it sounds like in own, - aukuras, paukštis, laukas, prausti the third diphthong…ei - if the stress is on the letter e, it sounds like this - eibė, meilė, leisti, paveikslas,if the stress is on the letter i, it sounds like in game, - eiti, sveikas, keleivis, ateivis the next one…eu - I think we have no English example for this :) – but in Lithuanian it sounds like Europa, euras, eukaliptas, eutanazija ie - like in theater - pieva, vienas, miestas, Dievas oi - like in boy - oi, boikotas ou - like in home - klounas, šou uo - about the same as in watch... - uodas, duona, šuo, duoti ui - like in ruin - muilas, buivolas, luitas, muitas Congratulations, you went through all the nine diphthongs. So let's repeat all of them once more:ai or ai, au or au, ei or ei, eu, ie, oi, ou, uo, ui. Sometimes you can find three vowels in one place, starting with -i-: iai, iau, but it could be helpful for you to know, that "iai" is pronounced almost the same as "ei", and iau - as "eu": for example…gražiai, meiliai, gražiau, meiliau. The bear is an ancient symbol of Žemaitija, one of the regions of Lithuania, and appears in the coat of arms of Šiauliai district as well. An elk is shown in the Lazdijai district municipality coat of arms. Hi there, I’m Jack and I’m Raminta and welcome back to Lithuanian Out Loud where we offer the world the Lithuanian language.  Today we’re in the month of August which in Lithuanian is - rugpjūtis. The Stelmužė Oak or in Lithuanian; Stelmužės ąžuolas is an oak tree which is growing in the former Stelmužė Manor Park. The oak reaches 23 meters in height and only side branches remain alive. It is believed to be at least 1,500 years old, possibly, as many as 2,000 years old; this makes it the oldest oak in Lithuania and one of the oldest in Europe. However, exact measurements of age are difficult as the inner part of the trunk has been removed. Beginning at the age of 40, Grand Duke, or High King, Gediminas was ruler of Lithuania from 1316 to 1341. He became the monarch of the Lithuanians 80 years after the Battle of the Sun.  Gediminas ruled for 25 years and he inherited lands that included what is now Lithuania as well as parts of Belarus. Gediminas was very loyal to his subjects, giving them the freedom to worship the traditional Lithuanian gods, Christianity or Judaism.  He’s the true founder of the modern idea of a Lithuanian nation. He created a large, powerful Lithuanian army; defended Lithuania with a series of strong forts and built castles in towns including Vilnius.  He originally placed the capital at Trakai, near Vilnius, but later decided on Vilnius itself. His reputation is that of a man who worshipped the old Lithuanian gods and who resisted every attempt to christianize his country, but the reality is a little different from the legend. Wanting to create a strong nation and needing help to defend Lithuania from the German Teutonic Knights, Gediminas asked for help from Pope John XXII. He promised to become Christian himself and invited members of different Christian orders to build churches in Lithuania. However, his subjects were uneasy with his plans to convert to the new religion. He eventually reneged on his promise to convert, strengthened his relationship with his people and withdrew from the process of christianization. It’s not clear whether Gediminas actually intended to become Christian.  The conversion was probably just a political move to help fight his Teutonic enemies. According to historian Stephen Christopher Rowell, in about 1339-40 Gediminas executed two Franciscan friars from Bohemia, Ulrich and Martin, they had gone beyond what Gediminas had allowed and had publicly preached against the Lithuanian religion. Gediminas ordered them to renounce Christianity, and had them killed when they refused. Gediminas died in 1341 from wounds he received in either a fight or a battle.  His funeral included a traditional Lithuanian cremation, including the human sacrifice of his favorite servant and many German slaves burned in the fire along with his corpse. Gediminas is a central figure in one of the most popular Lithuanian legends.  Once upon a time the Grand Duke of Lithuania, Gediminas, was hunting in the holy woods near where Vilnius would later be built. Tired after a successful day’s hunt the Grand Duke settled in for the night. He fell soundly asleep and had a dream. A huge iron wolf was standing on top of a hill and the sound of hundreds of wolves inside the hill filled the surrounding fields and woods. When he woke up, the Duke asked a Lithuanian priest to reveal the secrets of the dream. The priest said, "What is destined for the ruler and the state of Lithuania, is this: the iron wolf represents a castle and a town which will be built by the ruler on this site.
