2025 Volvo EX30 Finally Arrives: Is it Too Late to Start a New EV Party?

America on the Road

In this week's episode of America on the Road, Jack Nerad and Chris Teague each test drive fascinating small cars — the 2025 Volvo EX30 and the 2025 Hyundai Kona. Depending upon how you look at it, each one could be considered a big bargain … or a disappointment. We'll tell you our opinions and break down the biggest auto industry news of the week. Let's dive into what's on tap: Road Test 1: 2025 Volvo EX30 Twin Motor Performance Ultra Host Jack Nerad puts the 2025 Volvo EX30 Twin Motor Performance Ultra to the test, a compact electric SUV that delivers sports-car acceleration—0 to 60 in just 3.3 seconds—while wrapped in sleek, minimalist design. Its dual-motor AWD setup generates 422 hp and 400 lb-ft of torque, with up to 253 miles of range. Tech takes center stage inside with a single 12.3-inch touchscreen that controls everything—no gauge cluster or physical buttons in sight. While fast and feature-rich, Jack notes the interface can feel unintuitive, and the lack of tactile controls may frustrate some drivers. Sustainable materials, 5G connectivity, Google Built-in, and standard driver-assist features give it a modern edge. However, with final assembly and sourcing in China, the EX30 won't qualify for U.S. EV tax credits. It's a compelling, tech-forward EV for early adopters, but traditionalists may find it too digitally driven for daily use. Road Test 2: 2025 Hyundai Kona Chris Teague reviews the redesigned 2025 Hyundai Kona, now larger, smarter, and more refined than ever. The new model rides on an updated platform that improves ride quality, interior space, and driving dynamics. Its bold exterior features futuristic light bars and sharper lines, while the interior offers dual 12.3-inch displays, upgraded materials, and improved tech across trims. Powertrain options include a 2.0L base engine and a punchier 1.6-liter turbo, both delivering solid fuel economy. Chris highlights the Kona's strong value, easy drivability, and appeal to urban drivers and small families. Wireless smartphone connectivity and over-the-air update capability enhance its appeal. Downsides include some budget interior materials and AWD availability limited to certain trims. Overall, the 2025 Kona blends style, practicality, and features in a way that makes it one of the top choices in the subcompact SUV segment. Guest Interview: Jonny Grunwald, Pennzoil Spokesperson & Custom Car Builder This week's guest is Jonny Grunwald, a Pennzoil ambassador and respected automotive builder with a deep love for performance tuning and wrenching on machines. Jack and Chris talk with him about his path in the industry, his latest projects, and what he sees ahead for car enthusiasts and garage tinkerers alike. Industry News Roundup: Tesla Turmoil: Executives Exit Amid Falling Sales Tesla is in disarray as a string of high-profile executives has exited, including North American sales chief Troy Jones and key figures close to Elon Musk. With deliveries dropping and Musk's political foray stirring backlash, the company's direction—and stability—are being questioned. Stellantis Abandons Hydrogen Bet Stellantis is walking away from Symbio, its hydrogen fuel cell venture, just two years after buying in. Despite hydrogen's long-haul benefits, Stellantis is redirecting funds toward battery-electric vehicles, leaving Symbio's future in limbo. GM Flips Orion Plant from EVs to Gas Trucks In a surprising pivot, GM will convert its Orion Assembly plant from EV production to building gas-powered pickups like the Escalade, Silverado, and Sierra by 2027. Citing sluggish EV demand, the automaker is leaning back into its internal-combustion cash cows while maintaining battery module production on-site. Made in America Tour Update Jack shares the latest from the “Made in America” tour, highlighting domestic manufacturing, American-made vehicles, and other American-made items, including rock'n'roll, baseball, and football.

Success is not an overnight achievement but a culmination of hard work, dedication, and resilience. It doesn't always come easily or quickly. It takes an unwavering commitment to one's goals and the willingness to learn and adapt to reach one's  ultimate triumph. Even though every person has a unique path, we can all relate to carrying loads of various challenges and encountering adversities and difficulties. Hence, despite those difficulties, we understand that every triumphant journey is a process. It takes a lot of honing of our attitudes, emotions, and mentality so that when God gives us his promise of victory, we can truly be ready to handle the weight of the trophy.    Moreover, we must recognize the value of positivity, self-confidence, and partnership when facing life's battles. Life is never a one-person battle. Just as in sports, where athletes have coaches, trainers, teammates, and support staff to help them excel; life also requires a network of people. We must recognize the power of a strong support system. When we surround ourselves with individuals who believe in our potential and encourage us, it becomes easier to push through tough times. A mentor's wisdom, a friend's encouragement, or even a listening ear can make a difference. Finally, we must embrace the uniqueness of our journey, find strength in partnerships, and carry the torch of positivity and resilience to light our way.   In this special episode, Dr. Derrick Burgess will take you through the last several months of enlightening conversations and insights, from discussing the power of mindset and personal growth to exploring the challenges and triumphs of professional athletes. Join us as we revisit the best "Final Timeout" segments from recent episodes, where we explore topics ranging from athlete training to mental wellness strategies.  In addition, we will share remarkable stories of achievement and resilience. Tune in for a dose of inspiration, wisdom, and motivation that will empower you to tackle challenges head-on, embrace growth, and achieve your personal best.   "There is a process that God puts you through, and that time's needed for you to develop for what he has planned for you. But he's not going to allow you to move too fast if you're not ready because then you're going to squander, so be patient and embrace it." – Coach Troy Jones   Topics Covered: (00:00:00) Introduction (00:01:21) The compilation of Final TimeOuts from the past weeks. (00:01:59) Final TimeOut with Christian "CJ" Beatty (00:02:57) Do not give up on your dreams. (00:03:20) Dreams never stop but can be changed.  (00:04:30) Parents must continue achieving their dreams. (00:05:30) Final TimeOut with Demarcus Leflore (00:07:40) Final TimeOut with Tessa Wilson (00:08:23) Reframing negative experiences and viewing adversity positively (00:09:10) Final TimeOut with Emily Perrin (00:10:06) The challenge of seeking help and building a support system (00:10:37) Save Our Ship list (00:11:54) Let others know they're on your support list. (00:13:15) Reach out to professionals for assistance. (00:13:48) Final TimeOut with Troy Jones (00:14:31) Faith, belief, and patience in oneself. (00:15:19) Keep trusting the process (00:16:54) Compete within yourself (00:17:54) Final TimeOut with BoPete Keyes (00:18:58) Have confidence in yourself. (00:20:04) You need a team. (00:20:43) The impact of social media on athlete's reputation and career (00:21:10) Outro    Key Takeaways:     "Do yourself a favor and take the time to find your next dreams. When a person stops dreaming, they're dead. Dreams never stop; they change. That's what they do." – Christian Beatty   "If you're a parent, I need you to prime that old diesel up and get that dream factory going again because your kids are watching you. Find something else that's going to motivate you and drive you because they're watching you whether they tell you or not; they're watching you." – Christian Beatty   "Adversity does not define who you are. It's not the totality of who you are." – Tessa Wilson   "Those valuable skills learn through adversity; I don't see them as a negative at all, and I see them as an opportunity for self-growth." – Tessa Wilson   "Adversity gives you skills, experiences, and mindset that you can carry through life." – Tessa Wilson   "Money doesn't buy you happiness. But I do get that that without money, you can be miserable." – Tessa Wilson   "Mental health is not always something we can see, so we need to remember that the line of communication goes both ways." – Emily Perrin    "As soon as you start looking at somebody else, you've then made them the standard." – Coach Troy Jones   "Compete within yourself. Your standard is what you become and what you commit to yourself to be the best version of yourself." – Coach Troy Jones   "If you don't have confidence and faith in yourself, then you'll never be able to make it to where you want to be." – BoPete Keyes   "Everything will work out in due time." – BoPete Keyes   "You always need a team because there's nothing you can do alone." – BoPete Keyes   "Surround yourself with good people and make smart decisions too because we see now how one decision can completely make everything go away." – Dr. Derrick Burgess   Connect with Dr. Derrick Burgess: Website: https://www.drderrickthesportsdr.com/ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/drderrickthesportsdr/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/TimeOut.SportsDr LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/derrick-burgess-72047b246/ YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCHGDu1zT4K_X6PnYELu8weg Email: thesportsdoctr@gmail.com   This episode of TimeOut with the SportsDr. is produced by Podcast VAs Philippines - the team that helps podcasters effectively launch and manage their podcasts, so we don't have to. It's easy to be average but hard to be great because greatness is achieved through sacrifice, hard work, and determination. Many seek excellence in life and career, but few are willing to sacrifice. Only determined people can make an extra effort to push themselves beyond their limits and face failure with resilience. Consequently, this journey toward greatness is not smooth since hindrances and challenges are unavoidable. Hence, we must recognize that greatness involves continually stepping beyond one's comfort zone and taking risks others might avoid.    Furthermore, we must work to teach young people today to be the best versions of themselves in their choice of profession. For instance, in athletics, we must strive to provide necessary resources and support to young athletes, which involves effective coaching, rekindling their passions, and building self-confidence. As our guest speaker says, "The athlete's kryptonite is their confidence. If you break their confidence, you break their ability to be successful." Thus, we must encourage them to embrace every obstacle along with their pursuit of success.  In addition, they must pursue a progressive mindset that will distinguish them from the average athlete.    Coach Troy Jones is the in-house Director of Education, Science, Pro Performance, and Strength Training at House of Athletes in Weston, Florida. He aims to create the future of pro-performance training facilities built around a culture of wellness, mental fitness, and style. Coach Troy frequently speaks and provides educational workshops to teams, corporate brands, and strategic partners. He works almost exclusively with professional athletes playing at the highest competitive levels in their respective sports, including preparing athletes for the NFL season, the NFL Combine, or perhaps a world champion boxer for a title fight.    In this special episode with Coach Troy Jones, we will learn about the journey of a man who, from chasing the dream of being a professional athlete, shifts into being passionate about coaching and guiding athletes to reach their full potential in sports. Today's episode will encourage us to be patient and trust the process in whatever challenge God allows us to experience. Be captivated by the story and passion of Coach Troy as he shares with us how he was never coached to the level he desired despite having natural abilities and came to discover a talent for teaching and guiding athletes to attain the right coaching approach that can bring out the best in athletes and help them achieve their goals.   "There is a process that God puts you through, and that time's needed for you to develop for what he has planned for you. But he's not going to allow you to move too fast if you're not ready because then you're going to squander, so be patient and embrace it." – Coach Troy Jones   Topics Covered: (00:00:00) Introduction (00:00:41) Introducing our guest speaker, Coach Troy Jones. (00:02:39) From Aspiring Athlete to Passionate Coach: Who is Coach Troy Jones? (00:03:09) The Knack of Teaching (00:04:48) Find a way to separate yourself from the crowd. (00:05:50) What does an ultimate athlete look like? (00:06:54) Being the best athlete will power the skill. (00:07:46) You don't have to know everything. (00:09:43) Difference between developing an athlete versus a skilled player (00:10:40) Why must we protect young athletes from excessive pressure and stress? (00:13:34) How to address imbalances caused by repetitive sports participation? (00:14:56) Return Play Protocol (00:17:10) How do you determine if an athlete is ready to return to their sport by observing certain factors? (00:18:19) The Key to Absorbing and Transferring Forces. (00:24:05) What is your intent behind everything you do? (00:25:09) How does Coach Troy challenge his trainee athletes? (00:26:04) Most athletes are competitive. (00:28:09) The athlete's kryptonite is their confidence. (00:29:14) When in doubt, a bit of reset is a must. (00:30:01) Final TimeOut with Coach Troy Jones: How would you encourage someone to push through adversity to achieve success? (00:35:54) Outro    Key Takeaways:     "I've been chasing the dream of wanting to be a professional athlete and wanting to play at the highest level possible, but it turned into a passion that helped teach and educate athletes on how the process could come to life if done correctly." – Coach Troy Jones   "I always felt I was never coached up to the level that I aspired to be granted that I had some abilities, but I always felt like something was missing." – Coach Troy Jones   "I can't sit here and chase a dream for so long and not be successful at it." – Coach Troy Jones   "Being the best athlete will power the skill." – Coach Troy Jones   "You don't have to know everything. You need to have a desire to be good at it." – Coach Troy Jones "No one should be exposed to a great volume at a young age because their body is just not developed for it." – Coach Troy Jones   "I put everybody do a return to play protocol. We have to check the box on those things before we can graduate to any load." – Coach Troy Jones   "Getting the athletes back into those ranges of motion to where they can feel low and fall in love with the ground again because that's the first thing that goes your ability to absorb and transfer forces from the ground." – Coach Troy Jones   "Your gift will make room for you." – Coach Troy Jones   "The absorption is always going to take precedence because most injuries are deceleration base." – Coach Troy Jones   "Nothing applies forces greater than the brain when it's processing information in real-time." – Coach Troy Jones   "I was always afraid to be average. I was afraid to be like everybody else. I wanted to be the best at anything I was involved in." – Coach Troy Jones   "It's easy to be average. It's hard to be great because greatness is achieved through sacrifice." – Coach Troy Jones   "If I'm not moving with intent every day, I have no purpose." – Coach Troy Jones   "The athlete's kryptonite is their confidence. If you break their confidence, you break their ability to be successful." – Coach Troy Jones   "As soon as you start looking at somebody else, you've then made them the standard." – Coach Troy Jones   "Compete within yourself. To Be Human
#012 Troy Jones | Running 3931km Across Australia For Mental Health

Hello beautiful people On today's podcast we have the passionate Troy Jones. 8 years ago Troy lost a good friend which sparked a pathway into depression and severe drug use stemming from the internalisation of his emotions, and the lack of awareness, at that point in time, of how to process them. He found himself in debt, ruining relationships and upon getting arrested experienced his darkest point. From here, he decided to turn his life around, became a personal trainer, he began to push himself physically and mentally, a form of psychological therapy and from this, he decided to, what he terms, deal with the demons inside, open up and learn more about mental health.Fast forward to date, Troy recently ran 3931km across Australia, from Perth to Sydney in raising awareness for mental health and fundraising almost $65,000 for the organisation, Mindfull. What I personally love about this podcast is Troy's just complete transparency. He shares stories that most would find difficult to share, with no sense of shame, only empowerment and growth. This is certainly a piece of wisdom I hope for many people to take on, as I certainly believe, the more shame you feel about your behaviour, the more you will find yourself entertaining that very behaviour; trying to seek relief from your very own judgment. This podcast is a stigma free safe space, where we get real about mental health and Troy shares some strategies of what best helped him find his sense of purpose and direction. If you like this podcast, I would love for you to rate, review, subscribe, share with friends and family, particularly those who may be experiencing some form of mental health challenge themselves, become part of the To Be Human Collective, and enjoy this conversation with the determined Troy Jones.Connect with Jennah-LouiseMindset Coaching | https://www.jennahlouise.com.auInstagram Personal | https://www.instagram.com/jennah_louiseConnect with TroyInstagram | https://www.instagram.com/_troyjamesjones Website | https://www.crossingforacause.net
