In this first episode of Propaganda By the Seed shorts I'll be telling you about grafting, a method of plant propagation that joins 2 individual plants (the scion and the rootstock) and lets them grow as one. These shorter episodes without a guest are an experiment, so please let me know if you like them or have topics you would like to hear covered. “Short” episodes also have a Q&A segment, so send in those audio notes with questions if you got ‘em. I talk about some tools and materials you may want, like a grafting knife, tape, sealer or the grafting starter kit. You can't reasonably learn to graft from a podcast, so I recommend some local places where you could at least get a short lesson like the MOFGA Seed and Scion Exchange (Sunday, March 30, 12 - 4 p.m.) or the Mt. Joy Orchard Spring Planting festival (Saturday May 10th at Noon). If you can't find a local class or teacher, I recommend the Skillcult grafting series on youtube as a next step. As election season aggressively unfolds in the United States, three main intelligence agencies, the FBI, Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), and National Security Agency (NSA), grapple with security threats proliferating from both domestic and foreign actors. Recently, an escalating concern has been raised regarding the involvement of two key geopolitical players, Russia and Iran, suspected of spearheading elaborate schemes to tilt the presidential poll results. The charges of interference primarily revolve around deliberate attempts to sway public sentiment by exploiting the vulnerabilities in digital infrastructure dedicated to maintaining the integrity of the upcoming national vote. This type of malign activity is not wholly unprecedented; Russian actors had previously been implicated in the 2016 presidential elections for similar cyber warfare. One week prior, US officials, without naming specific agencies, blamed Russia for spearheading cyber-attacks designed to impact the electoral process. The attacks so far have involved a range of tactics, including misinformation campaigns on social media platforms, direct attempts to infiltrate election systems, and broad cyber espionage targeting various political entities. Meanwhile, Iran's alleged involvement is taking a different route. The suspicion is that cyber warriors in Iran, potentially at the behest of the government, have also been spreading disinformation online to influence the voters' decision-making process. Simultaneously, a slightly deviated narrative reveals that Sean Combs is set to face federal charges of sex trafficking and racketeering next year. Although Combs' situation is in no way directly linked to cyber interference attempts directed towards the election, his trial captivates public attention in midst of the chaos, further muddying the political landscape in American society. These new announcements serve as a grim reminder that election interference remains an acute threat to democratic systems worldwide. As the United States braces itself to manage the combined challenges of a pandemic-altered election season and potential cyber threats, the situation underscores the need for enhanced digital fortitude.Officials have urged both voters and political leaders to be more alert about mis- and disinformation, ensuring a more informed, resilient electorate, less prone to external manipulation. Efforts are also being ramped up to bolster the security of the entire electoral infrastructure to avoid any disruptions that could undermine public confidence in the election outcome.Despite the apparent urgency and gravity of the situation, a unifying international consensus on dealing with cyber threats remains elusive. Grafting stringent cybersecurity measures onto a traditionally physical electoral process is no small task, further challenging the already tumultuous election season in America. Thus, the federal intelligence agencies continue to work tirelessly to intercept and neutralize threats and ensure the secure execution of one of the world's most significant elections.

More often than not, a surgical innovation is not the result of an overnight success, but rather the result of iterative improvements on a tool or technique that leads to better outcomes. In this episode of the BackTable MSK Podcast, we interview Dr. Jim Marino, a retired orthopedic surgeon and prolific medtech innovator. Dr. Marino gives us an inside look at his extensive career, detailing his role in orthopedic device innovation and the trials and tribulations that he faced along the way. --- SYNPOSIS Having trained in an era where joint arthroscopy was emerging, Dr. Marino had a vision to build devices for minimally invasive spine surgery that paralleled developments in peripheral joint surgery. Alongside venture capitalists, he founded the company NuVasive, and eventually Trinity Orthopedics. He discusses the COREX device, a percutaneous autologous bone harvester that rivals the use of biologics. COREX maintains the gold standard of using cancellous bone grafts and significantly decreases donor site pain. Applications for this device started with bone grafting for spinal fusion surgery, but are now expanding to foot and ankle procedures. As architecture and construction are two of the biggest sources of carbon emissions on our planet, what can architects do to change this? In this episode of Design Emergency, the US architect, Jeanne Gang, tells our cofounder Alice Rawsthorn how she and her colleagues at Studio Gang in Chicago are designing new ways of reusing and repurposing existing buildings, as an ecologically responsible alternative to building new ones, through a process she calls “architectural grafting”..Jeanne is a prolific and ingenious architect whose work at Studio Gang includes: the Arkansas Museum of Fine Arts and the Gilder Center for Science, Education and Innovation at the American Museum of Natural History in New York. Among Jeanne's projects currently being designed or under construction, are the new US Embassy in Brasilia and the Global Terminal at Chicago O'Hare Airport..She describes the defining theme of her practice as being to make “architecture that strengthens kinship among people, their communities and the natural world”. All Jeanne's work is steeped in her research at Studio Gang, including an experimental project to protect the one billion-plus birds that die in the US each year after crashing into high-rise buildings, and as a Professor in Practice at the Harvard University Graduate School of Design, where her teaching focuses on the theories of reuse and resilience that she explores in her latest book, The Art of Architectural Grafting..We hope you'll enjoy this episode. You can find images of Jeanne and her work on our Instagram @design.emergency. This is another episode where you the listeners asked for it, so you got it. Most exciting this week is we have guest interviewer Victoria Cullen from ‘A Touchy Subject' on the interview. If you don't know about Victoria and you have had prostate cancer treatment- you, should, she has awesome information for people in this area so check out her website https://www.atouchysubject.com/. Many of you saw the TV show where Dr. David Dangerfield was interviewed about this surgery. Professor Chris Coombes and Dr. David Dangerfield perform this surgery to return erectile function to men post prostate cancer treatment. Following Dr Dangerfield's TV interview, I was inundated with requests for more information so here it is. Those of you who are longtime listeners of The Penis Project may remember Episode 46-way back in August 2021 where Jo Milios and I interviewed Dr. Dangerfield on this life changing surgery, and following in that we interviewed a patient who had been through the surgery (Episode 83). A few years have passed now and, in this episode, we speak with Mike who had non nerve sparing prostatectomy in May 2023 and recently had microsurgery with Dr. Dangerfield and Dr. Coombs to repair his erectile dysfunction. The plan is we will follow Mike's journey over the next 12 months and see how he goes, so listen here for the initial post op recovery and keep listening for updates. Also, if you want to know more, we will be interviewing Dr. Dangerfield himself in September 2024 so keep listening. ---------- Websites: https://melissahadleybarrett.com Men's health only https://rshealth.com.au/ All genders http://www.menshealthphysiotherapy.com.au/ http://prost.com.au/ Facebook: https://m.facebook.com/p/Melissa-Hadley-Barrett-100085237672685/ https://www.facebook.com/Restorativeshealthclinic Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/melissahadleybarrett/ https://www.instagram.com/rshealth_perth/ Linkedin: https://www.linkedin.com/in/melissa-hadley-barrett/
God's ways are not our ways. We see this throughout this section of Romans. God is doing a great work for maximum redemption of both Jew and Gentile, and he is carrying that out in a way he knows is best. Paul says a remnant of Israel has been chosen by grace, the rest have been hardened, but we see in this week's passage how God is using even that hardening for greater salvation for Jew and Gentile alike.
Paul continues revealing the grace and glory of God, now employing a unique grafting illustration. This illustration, found only here in all of Scripture, presents a vivid analogy for the redemptive-historical makeup of God's people. It powerfully depicts culpability and grace at the same time. Whereas the last paragraph focused on the glory of God's sovereignty over Israel's sin, the focus here is on the glory of God's grafting in Gentiles. Both showcase the wonders of God's grace. The former promoted gospel jealousy, the latter gospel humility. While attention is clearly centered on the relationship between Israel and the church, the greater reality of God's sovereign grace is the defining mark of the glory of God's grafting.
