Hi all! I hope you're all safe at home, doing your best to keep this worldwide pandemic at bay. Here's my little drop in the bucket to entertain you during this time. Returning to our podcast digital airwaves, Adolfo Busó and Oskar Giovannie joined me to discuss the latest Universal Studios "monster" movie, The Invisible Man (2020). Aside from that, we also relitigated the merits of the movie Cats, reveled in the return of OG Jim Carey, debated Universal's Dark Universe, watching R rated movies at 9 years old, and of course, toilet paper (or the lack thereof). What was suppose to be another entry in Universal's Dark Universe is now just a solo film pulled together from a low budget. However....does that necessarily make the movie any better or worse? Let's take a "look" and see!

Universal's Dark Universe never really got off the ground. They had big plans for a MCU-like cinematic universe that focused on all of the Universal Studios monsters and well, that was a disaster. So instead, we get Blumhouse taking something like The Invisible Man and grounding it and leaning on some everyday horrors. What would happen if you took an abusive and controlling man, made him invisible and allowed him to stalk and gaslight his former girlfriend? The answer is a fairly solid thriller that is less horror and sci-fi. The Invisible Man is far from perfect (Listen to our spoiler review in a couple of days) but overall it works. It's too long, has some missed opportunities story-wise and joins the long list of films that completely under-utilized Aldis Hodge. But despite all that, we highly recommend seeing this film Stay tune for the spoiler review which will release on this page to premium members Saturday. This is MTR Premium Network content. [School of Movies 2019] Not long after the 1999 original hit theatres Universal were on the phone to director Stephen Sommers with a basic request; "We need another one". And another one they got. The creeping mystery and classical style of the first film was left in the sand and instead this is a rip-roaring race against time treasure hunt action spectacular. This time around we discuss the bonkers reasoning when it comes to putting souls into living bodies, Sommers' obvious adulation of Terminator 2 and how The Mummy series was kind of a prototype Marvel Cinematic Universe. And as a bonus, this episode includes my Quick Review of the 2017 movie "The Tom Cruise (Featuring a Female Mummy)" which was supposed to launch Universal's Dark Universe.
