A classically trained guitarist who studied composition at The New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music, Manhattan native Ben Greenberg is a prolific record producer, engineer, songwriter, and performer who coheres conservatory training with a deep history across many different genres of underground music.Known as a founding member of respected industrial/metal group Uniform and a former member of The Men, Zs, and many more, Greenberg has been described by Ben Ratliff of the New York Times as “a good musician [...] and boss of his own one-man guitar project, Hubble.” Ben's rich and varied performance history ranges from over two decades touring with bands to performing for legendary composers like Glenn Branca and Terry Riley. In the year 2000 Greenberg began assisting Grammy-award winning engineer Mike Marciano at Systems Two Recording in Ditmas Park, Brooklyn. It was here that he learned the fundamentals of recording on 2” tape alongside early Pro Tools systems. He would go on to build his own recording studio in Brooklyn (Python Patrol) and work out of world-class studios all around the globe (Electrical Audio, The Magic Shop, Strange Weather, The Pool, Sonic Ranch). Greenberg's studio credits include Danny Elfman, Depeche Mode, Drab Majesty, Wicca Phase Springs Eternal, Junglepussy, Show Me The Body, Drew McDowall, Black Marble, and Christeene, among many others. His process attends to the essence of the artist's vision and exacts a cultivated philosophy of sound upon them. The result is something between organic and synthetic: A magic that locks in the music's emotional resonance with the listener.Since the 2010s, Greenberg has produced and mixed award-winning scores for film and television. He is the principal engineer to the scores of composer Brian McComber (ex-Dirty Projectors), including the A24 productions It Comes At Night and Krisha, as well as Kingdom of Silence (Showtime), 16 Shots (Showtime), Little Woods (Neon), Mickey and The Bear (Utopia), and Fair Play (Netflix), among others. Greenberg was Randall Dunn's mix assistant for the Jóhann Jóhannsson score to Panos Cosmatos' 2018 film, Mandy (SpectreVision), and Dunn's co-engineer for the 2022 score to Julio Torres' Problemista (A24). Greenberg has also mixed Ella Van Der Woude's scores for Something You Said Last Night (Elevation Pictures) and Silver Haze (EMU Films), and in 2024 he won a Cinema Audio Society award for Outstanding Achievement in Sound Mixing - Documentary, for his stereo and surround mixes of JD Samson's score for Sam Green's 32 Sounds (DofMP).IN THIS EPISODE YOU'LL LEARN:Starting music production at a young ageFinding jobs in the music industryDealing with parents who might not understand your passionsWorking on metal, jazz, and everything in betweenSwitching your workflow for different genresUnderstanding what to listen for with compressionHow to approach a new mixWhy volume and panning are your most important toolsDetermining when plugins are worth purchasing Working with Danny ElfmanPurposely doing lessTo learn more about Ben Greenberg, visit: https://circularruin.com/Ben-GreenbergLooking for 1-on-1 feedback and training to help you create pro-quality mixes?Check out my coaching program Amplitude and apply to join:https://masteryourmix.com/amplitude/ Want additional help with your music productions? For tips on how to improve your mixes, visit: https://masteryourmix.com/ Download your FREE copy of the Ultimate Mixing Blueprint:

"Hurry Up Tomorrow" is the new film from Trey Edward Shults, the filmmaker behind films such as "Krisha," "It Comes At Night" and "Waves." The film acts as a companion piece to Abel "The Weeknd" Tesfaye's sixth studio album of the same name, which was produced in conjunction with the film. It stars Tesfaye as a fictionalized version of himself, an insomniac musician on the verge of a mental breakdown who is pulled into an existential odyssey by a mysterious stranger, with actors Jenna Ortega and Barry Keoghan also starring. Shults was kind enough to spend some time speaking with us about his work and experience making the film, which you can listen to below. Please be sure to check out the film, which will open in theaters on May 16th from Lionsgate. Thank you, and enjoy! Check out more on NextBestPicture.com Please subscribe on... Welcome back to another spine-tingling episode of **Cutting Deep into Horror**, where your hosts, Henrique Couto and Rachael Redolfi, shine a light on the darkest corners of horror cinema. This week, they're diving into the chilling 2017 film *It Comes at Night*, a psychological horror experience that explores themes of fear, paranoia, and the fragility of human relationships in the face of an unseen threat. As they set the stage for their discussion, Henrique and Rachael share their initial thoughts on the film, which was released by A24 during the rise of "elevated horror." They unpack the unique blend of psychological tension and existential dread that permeates this unsettling narrative. While the film portrayed a world ravaged by disease, it's more about the human condition than any monsters lurking in the shadows. The duo emphasizes the film's ability to keep viewers guessing about its true nature—there's no creature out there, just the deeply ingrained fear of the unknown.Delving deeper, Henrique and Rachael reflect on the pivotal opening scene, where we witness a family's harrowing decision to end the suffering of a loved one amidst a viral apocalypse. This gut-wrenching moment serves as a precursor to the psychological turmoil that follows, setting the tone for a film that constantly challenges perceptions of safety, trust, and survival. They discuss the dynamics within the family, particularly teenage Travis, whose emotional struggles and nightmares shape his journey as the story unfolds. As the episode progresses, the hosts dissect the film's characters, including Travis' relationship with his parents, Paul and Sarah. They highlight how the weight of survival and personal sacrifice alters family dynamics, leading to moments of tension and emotional distance. Rachael points out how Travis feels a disconnect from his father, as Paul is forced to make impossible decisions in the name of protection, leading to a realistic portrayal of parental sacrifice in dire circumstances.Throughout their analysis, Henrique and Rachael touch upon the various elements that contribute to the film's psychological horror—a labyrinth-like house, the ever-looming absence of light, and the omnipresent anxiety that escalates with every scene. The raw emotions depicted in the characters and the unsettling atmosphere successfully blur the lines between perceived safety and lurking danger. As they navigate the twists and turns of the plot, our hosts discuss the fateful arrival of Will and his family, whose introduction to the isolated household raises the stakes considerably. Constructing a fine balance between cooperation and mistrust, the families' interactions reveal the fragility of alliances when survival is on the line. This theme of distrust continues to build until the climactic confrontation, which leaves listeners reeling from the implications of human desperation. In the shocking conclusion, Rachael and Henrique articulate how the film culminates in a tragic fate that fully encapsulates its messages—what happens when fear takes over and the lengths people will go to, even to protect their own loved ones. Each character's development leads to harrowing decisions that escalate the conflict, rendering them spectators of their own downfall as trust evaporates in moments of crisis. In the aftermath of their emotional exploration of *It Comes at Night*, your hosts urge listeners to forge their own connections to this deeply emotional horror film. They end the episode by inviting fans to share their thoughts, theories, and recommendations for future episodes. In this unnerving episode of Sitting in the Dark, host Tommy Metz III and his co-hosts delve into the spine-chilling world of confinement horror. The discussion focuses on three hand-picked films that trap characters in claustrophobic spaces, forcing them to confront their deepest fears. Want to watch along? You'll want to set up Gerald's Game, It Comes at Night, and The Crazies (the 2010 remake). “If it can be a play, it'll suck as a movie.” Yeah, they take on that old saw and debate the merits of adapting contained stories into feature films. Guess what? It turns out skilled directors can elevate these constrained tales beyond their stage-bound origins. They particularly focus on the 2017 Stephen King adaptation Gerald's Game, dissecting how it taps into unspoken relationship fears and traumas by locking viewers inside the protagonist's increasingly disturbed psyche.Join the Sitting in the Dark team as they explore how cinematic craft can transform limited locations into expansive mindscapes where our darkest terrors become inescapably real. Thank you for listening to The Following Films Podcast. Today, I'm joined by Directors Josiah Allen and Indianna Bell to discuss their film YOU'LL NEVER FIND ME In the Australian outback, a lonely, paranoid man, Patrick (played by Brendan Rock) gets a knock on his door during a torrential storm. He finds a woman, only known as "The Visitor" (played by Jordan Cowan, who also produces) in need of a phone to find her way home. He cautiously lets her in, which sets off a claustrophobic night of doubt, hidden motivations, and a tense, ever-shifting game of mental cat-and-mouse. All of which leads to, without spoiling anything, an explosive finale that turns the paranoia thriller format on its head! Directors Josiah Allen and Indianna Bell approached their feature debut like a challenge. Indianna, who also wrote the film, set out to see how much tension they could conjure with potentially limiting factors like a singular location and just two actors. With a small team of trusted collaborators from their previous short films, such as their remarkable cinematographer Maxx Corkindale, the duo sought to capture a brooding and anxious atmosphere a la 'Enemy' or 'It Comes At Night' while channeling the darkness and isolation that Australian filmmakers do best. The final product that subverts the dialogue-driven, chamber piece structure on its head and serves as yet another bold entry to the recent renaissance of horror down under! As a mysterious sickness spreads, a man established a structured order of living with his wife and son and takes in another family in need of water and shelter. It Comes at Night is a deep movie that peers into the lives of a family who has recently lost a loved one while isolating from a mysterious sickness and how much they can trust others and their intentions. This is a powerful movie in how quiet and eerie it is. The character dialogue and facial expressions carry the story of two families who live together to benefit each other and must obey a set of rules to ensure the safety of both families. The movie poses a lot of questions and the character intentions aren't known based on how much one family can really trust the other as well as if it's even possible to isolate with another family and be safe.
We are talking about the results of the fan-voted top 104 Horror movies. We asked people to vote round by round and reseeded each round so the high seed will always play the low seed. Ben and Ethan end spooky season with an apocalyptic-set thriller that begs the question... is humanity its own worst enemy? We break down 'It Comes At Night', talk about desert island desserts, and try to figure out just who in the movie we actually trusted. We are now on YOUTUBE! Go subscribe to the channel and watch us review the movie! What do you think of It Comes At Night? Let us know on Instagram or Twitter @24minutesofA24!
This week my guest is producer Jeanie Igoe. Jeanie's big break came when she landed a role at A24, where her credits as a production executive include Barry Jenkins' MOONLIGHT, Trey Edwards Shults', IT COMES AT NIGHT, Bo Burnham's EIGHTH GRADE and Robert Eggers' THE LIGHTHOUSE. She also served as a producer on their TV series RAMY, and a co-producer on David Lowery's THE GREEN KNIGHT. She then launched herself as an independent producer, with her first project MISS JUNETEENTH, the directorial debut from Channing Godfrey Peoples going on to premiere at Sundance and receive a nomination for the Grand Jury Prize. Most recently, Jeanie co-produced CONVERSATIONS WITH FRIENDS alongside Catherine Magee and the team at Element Pictures, including former podcast guest Emma Norton and Development Producer Chelsea Morgan Hoffman who developed Sally Rooney's novel into the series script, alongside the writers. We talk about moving to New York, getting a job at A24 in its fledging years as a company and then being witness to their exponential growth, making the decision to start producing independently, moving back to Ireland, maintaining a work-life balance, how Jeanie creates an atmosphere of collaboration and care on set and adapts her role to the needs of the project and the filmmaker. I hope you enjoy listening to our conversation as much as I did having it.
On this weeks episode host Ygraine chats with Matt Glasby about apocalyptic horror. They discuss 2009s [Rec] 2 directed by Paco Plaza and Jaume Balagueró and 2017s It Comes At Night directed by Trey Edward Shults.
A24 releases some of the best arthouse films today. Naturally, they're more than worthy of being the focus for another Double Edged Double Bill episode! First, an extremely obvious metaphor lurks in the shadows in It Comes At Night! Then, a family tries to hide the secret of their beloved matriarch's health from her in The Farewell! Together, our duo answers the crucial questions. Can a character's singular trait be dream sequences? How can Awkwafina avoid overexposure? Is that Taylor Kitsch or Garrett Hedlund? Which two films will they choose for next week's Tom Cruise episode? Well, take that burlap sack off your head and finish your crab so you can listen to find out! Is Harper actually the best character in ‘Happiest Season'? Should she have been the protagonist? Special guest Emily VanDerWerff (Vox.com, Arden Podcast) sits down with a lonely Samantha to revisit the already discoursed-to-death lesbian Christmas rom-com for another hour and a half. We lay out a case for Harper, swap coming out stories, and worry about the state of art more generally. And then somehow, we end up discussing Amtrak, trans stuff, and the boutique 2017 horror film ‘It Comes At Night.'
Welcome to Chris & Chris Talk Movies. In this podcast, life-long friends Chris Ferry and Chris Huddleston discuss Sci Fi movies (sometimes the best Sci Fi movies, sometimes not), horror movies (occasionally some of the all time best horror movies…often…not), a few of the very best action movies (I think you see where we're going with this), and genre films from their childhood and beyond in this laid-back, rambling, but inviting series!Rated PG for occasional mature language and alcohol consumption. For this week's episode, we review the 2020 release, POSSESSOR, directed by Brandon Cronenberg, son of David Cronenberg. It's being hailed as part of the new wave of Canadian horror movies along with Anthony Scott Burns' COME TRUE and Shawn Linden's HUNTER HUNTER. Starring Andrea Riseborough (MANDY, BLACK MIRROR), Christopher Abbott (IT COMES AT NIGHT), and Jennifer Jason Leigh (SINGLE WHITE FEMALE, THE HATEFUL EIGHT).If you've seen this one, let us know what you thought. If not, watch the movie, then take a listen to what we have to say.Send us feedback: chrisandchristalkmovies@gmail.com

Many white, male indie directors are immediately making the jump to helming big franchises — but is it always a good idea? Your three favorite millennials are joined by Friend of the Pod, Mike Silangil, to discuss the firing of Phil Lord and Christopher Miller from the 'Han Solo' prequel and whether that was just a minor instance of a bad investment in this new franchise director pipeline. Plus: Willoughby recommends the "You Must Remember This" podcast, Anya welcomes "The Oh, Hello Show," Mike raves about "War for the Planet of the Apes," and HT was pleasantly surprised by "It Comes At Night."
Christian and Ian are finally in Cruise control. Summer Funhouse is here. We gather on a cool summer night to review the latest genre offering from A24, IT COMES AT NIGHT. We spend a few minutes talking the Tom Cruise reboot and hurried universe introduction, THE MUMMY. For our Movie from the Crypt segment we kick off our Summer Funhouse series on horror comedies with the rom-com-zom classic, SHAUN OF THE DEAD. We also discuss our newfound hatred for Jake Johnson, how old Mandy Moore is, and wet nightmares. We'd love to hear your thoughts, questions, or any requests you have. In Episode 52 of the Crooked Table Podcast, Robert Yaniz Jr. uncovers director Alex Kurtzman's new take on The Mummy, starring Tom Cruise and Sofia Boutella. The film is, of course, intended to kick off Universal's monster-centric Dark Universe. We'll investigate whether The Mummy provides a solid foundation for what's to come as well as how it stacks up against the 1999 edition, which saw Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz bring the classic tale to the modern age. Also: Rob reviews A24's latest, director Trey Edward Shults' It Comes At Night starring Joel Edgerton, and discusses his thoughts on the latest news surrounding X-Men: Dark Phoenix. It's a jam-packed episode of the Crooked Table Podcast. So let's get to it before a certain Egyptian princess catches up with us. We're excited to hear your feedback as the show continues to evolve. As usual, the podcast does feature explicit language and, as such, is best considered NSFW. Synopsis for The Mummy, courtesy of Universal Pictures: Tom Cruise headlines a spectacular, all-new cinematic version of the legend that has fascinated cultures all over the world since the dawn of civilization: The Mummy. Thought safely entombed in a tomb deep beneath the unforgiving desert, an ancient princess (Sofia Boutella of Kingsman: The Secret Service and Star Trek Beyond) whose destiny was unjustly taken from her is awakened in our current day, bringing with her malevolence grown over millennia and terrors that defy human comprehension. From the sweeping sands of the Middle East through hidden labyrinths under modern-day London, The Mummy brings a surprising intensity and balance of wonder and thrills in an imaginative new take that ushers in a new world of gods and monsters. Cruise is joined by a cast including Annabelle Wallis (upcoming King Arthur, television's Peaky Blinders), Jake Johnson (Jurassic World), Courtney B. Vance (TV's American Crime Story: The People V. O.J. Simpson), Marwan Kenzari (The Promise) and Oscar®winner Russell Crowe (Gladiator). The creative team on this action-adventure event is led by director/producer Alex Kurtzman and producer Chris Morgan, who have been instrumental in growing some of the most successful franchises of the past several years—with Kurtzman writing or producing entries in the Transformers, Star Trek and Mission: Impossible series, and Morgan being the narrative engineer of the Fast & Furious saga as it has experienced explosive growth from its third chapter on. Sean Daniel, who produced the most recent Mummy trilogy, and Sarah Bradshaw (Maleficent) produce alongside Kurtzman and Morgan. Thanks for listening! The Horror Junkies are back in the studio this week with their good friend Jorge. The Florida sky is turning black and the winds begin to pick up, which means that the conditions for recording our episode are perfect. On this week's episode we discuss Infection movies and finally tackle the underrated hit It Comes At Night by Trey Edward Shults. In the first half of the show, Patrick drags us through what felt like an eternity of Horror News. Bringing up some really anticipated Horror themed games from the E3 conference that was this past week. Such titles include: The Last of Us part 2, The Evil Within 2, Wolfenstein II, and Days Gone, which feels like it was influenced by World War Z. Be sure to check out those games if your into survival games or if you just want to cry with the lights off. We also had a pretty intense Horror History segment with Mike. Before digging into his topic, Mike brought up a painting from It Comes At Night. This particular painting is titled The Triumph of Death and was painted by Pieter Bruegel the Elder in 1562. Depicting mass death, walking skeletons, and destruction. The topic of Horror History today was the Bubonic Plague that decimated Europe in the 14th century, wiping out one-third of its population. The second half of the show is our short Spoiler Free conversation about It Comes At Night, followed by a longer spoiler filled conversation about what our thoughts are and the questions we have after watching the movie. This movie got a really solid rating from the Horror Junkies, and it really makes the viewer think and pay attention. But don't take our word for it, go see It Comes At Night and tell us what you think. As always.... Stay Weird! --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/horrorjunkiespodcasts/support

On this week's episode, Mike and Patrick are the only two in the studio. We had no idea where or what happened to Angel and Austin, so if you see them take a picture and use the hashtag WheresAustinandAngel, so we can make fun of them, but nonetheless the show must go on. In the news portion of the show, nothing was really happening, which is a shocker because usually there is so much news, we have to shift through all of it to determine what we want to talk about. However, we did find some interesting topics to mention. First up is the latest trailer release of It Comes At Night, featuring a locked Red Door, and some pretty intense scenes. It Comes At Night is set to hit theaters June 9th. On the more independent side of Horror, this past weekend was the Overlook Film Festival and one movie there won the award for being the Scariest Film. Of course we are talking about Still/Born, created by the man behind Grave Encounters Brandon Christensen. We literally no nothing about this movie, but if you win this award, you have our attention. We will post more about this movie later on, but head over http://www.digitalinterference.net to keep updated. This week on Horror History, was again nothing to major. We have the 1960 release of The Two Faces of Dr. Jekyll directed by Terence Fisher, and the 1966 release of The Vulture directed by Lawrence Huntington. Earlier in the week we watched two amazing independent movies; one called Another Evil directed by Carson D. Mell and The Transfiguration directed by Michael O'Shea. Another Evil is a comedy/Horror that to Patrick and I seems like the Clerks of Horror movies. This movie focuses on the dialogue more than anything. Which is awesome, because when it comes to ghost movies, they tend to focus on the Fear Factor, rather than the actual script. Another Evil will be available on VOD May 5, 2017 and currently has an 90% on Rotten Tomatoes, so be sure to give it a watch and prepare yourself for a different kind of horror movie. The next movie we watched was Michael O'Shea's debut film The Transfiguration. Taking place in the projects of New York City, and follows a troubled individual named Milo, who has a pretty bad obsession with Vampire lore. Straight from the beginning this movie captures your attention. Milo played by Eric Ruffin, is a very closed and awkward kid. Literally even he way he walks and runs is weird, but these elements add so much to the film. The Transfiguration is unlike any movie we've seen before. It's coming out on VOD on August 8th, and currently has an 83% on Rotten Tomatoes, which we feel is a little to low for this movie. Head over to http://thetransfigurationfilm.com to learn more about this amazing movie. Stay Weird! --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/horrorjunkiespodcasts/support
