Last week, SpaceX routinely launched a new crew to the ISS. And finally, Elon Musk revealed he's prioritizing lunar missions: For those unaware, SpaceX has already shifted focus to building a self-growing city on the Moon, as we can potentially achieve that in less than 10 years, whereas Mars would take 20+ years. The mission of SpaceX remains the same: extend consciousness and life as we know it to the stars. It is only possible to travel to Mars when the planets align every 26 months (six month trip time), whereas we can launch to the Moon every 10 days (2 day trip time). This means we can iterate much faster to complete a Moon city than a Mars city. That said, SpaceX will also strive to build a Mars city and begin doing so in about 5 to 7 years, but the overriding priority is securing the future of civilization and the Moon is faster. 2. In years, new rockets will reach the Moon Artemis I (Nov. 2022) tested the Space Launch System. Notably, this system is developed separately from reusable rockets. Artemis II (March 2026?) will launch astronauts around the Moon. The mission will last four days and orbit the Moon's far side. The names of these absolutely real, nonfictional astronauts are: Commander Reid Wiseman Pilot Victor Glover Mission specialist Christina Koch Mission specialist astronaut Jeremy Hansen (CSA) As memes foretold, we hope they come back with superpowers. Artemis III will be a real moon landing, first since Apollo 17 in 1972. That mission may launch as early as 2028. No crew announced yet. Axiom Space developed new super-upgraded spacesuits for this. NASA identified possible nine landing sites, all near the South Pole. That region has stable daylight/temperatures plus crater water ice. All said, the first lunar bases could be south polar settlements. Many speculators suggest future lunar manufacturing in this area. NASA, Department of Energy to Develop Lunar Surface Reactor by 2030 Materials include water ice, lunar regolith, and other metals. Musk wants to make AI satellites there and launch them into space. Elon Musk Wants to Build an A.I. Satellite Factory on the Moon Risks: extra radiation could drive habitats under protective layers. You could shield with thick ceilings or else use lunar lava tubes. Where's the fun in returning? But now the Moon seems more accessible. Walk before you run. Last year for ACE's launch, we shared a series: Martian Month. Unlike the Moon, Mars has atmosphere and daylight cycles. It's a little “warmer,” with slightly more radiation protection. Also, Mars has less known surface ice but more carbon dioxide. How to get there? You need to wait about once every two years. Possible transport: nuclear-powered rockets, now in development. NASA administrator Jared Isaacman: nuclear-electric propulsion? 6 Things You Should Know About Nuclear Thermal Propulsion That may reduce travel time by 25 percent (from 6 to 4 months?). Timing: a matter of decades, perhaps the 2030s at the earliest. So yes, you may live to see this happen, yet likely not travel there. Speculators/rocketeers see philosophical, humanitarian motives. For the Christian, our motives for spaceflight are a bit different. After all, God made humans to steward the Earth and maybe more. Alas, sin interferes with our purpose and our very human nature. We're mortal. Space couldn't have killed us before. Now it does. Personally, I see humanity's future with limited spaceflight at best. Yet after Jesus returns and we get New everything, who knows? Either way, with cautious optimism, Christians can rejoice at this. It's healthy to stop navel-gazing and look upward and onward. And someday, yes, missionaries may come to the Moon and Mars. The full Moon has an especially close companion tonight: Spica, the brightest star of Virgo. From the eastern half of the country, they’ll appear to almost touch each other as night falls. They’ll be a bit farther apart for those in the west, but still close. A dozen American astronauts walked on the Moon, with the final steps coming half a century ago. Their missions are among those commemorated today – the International Day of Human Spaceflight. The day was established by the United Nations, in 2011, to “celebrate the beginning of the space era for all mankind.” That era began on this date in 1961, when the Soviet Union launched the first human into space. Yuri Gagarin made one orbit around Earth aboard Vostok 1, then parachuted to the ground after re-entering the atmosphere. Exactly 20 years later, the United States launched the first space shuttle. The U.N. General Assembly named those missions, along with the first Moon landing, as motivation for the Day of Human Spaceflight. The first celebration of the date came in 2001. A private group created “Yuri’s Night,” which continues today. It combines science and engineering with music, art, and other activities. Space centers, museums, planetariums, and other venues host events to celebrate the date. C'était la première femme au monde à vivre une telle expérience.Elle devait rester plus de 70 heures en orbite basse. Seule dans sa capsule spatiale, elle fera près de 50 fois le tour de la Terre, avant d'atterrir dans un lac de l'Altaï. On ignore les raisons qui ont poussé Nikita Khrouchtchev, le dirigeant soviétique del'époque, à accepter la présence d'une femme dans l'espace.C'était peut-être une suite logique pour le responsable du programme Vostok. Mais il est également probable que, sur ce point comme sur les autres, les Russes ne voulaient pas se faire dépasser par les Américains.Deux ans plus tôt déjà, en 1961, ils avaient envoyé le premier homme dans l'espace, Iouri Gagarine. Ils enverraient donc aussi la première femme.Et cette pionnière devait être Valentina Terechkova. Elle venait d'un milieu modeste, son père étant conducteur de tracteurs et sa mère ouvrière. Mais comment avait-on sélectionné cette première cosmonaute ?Chez les hommes, les cosmonautes étaient choisis parmi les pilotes militaires, ce qui paraissait logique. Mais il y avait bien peu de pilotes féminins. Alors on se tourne vers les parachutistes.Par ailleurs, la future cosmonaute devait répondre à certains critères physiques : elle devait avoir moins de 30 ans, ne pas peser plus de 70 kilos et mesurer au moins 1,70 m.Satisfaisant à ces conditions, Valentina Terechkova est retenue parmi les cinq femmes finalement sélectionnées.Et c'est elle qui est choisie pour s'envoler dans l'espace. Pourtant, elle n'obtient pas les meilleurs résultats lors de la formation et elle n'est pas non plus la parachutiste la plus aguerrie.Mais son profil convient mieux à Khrouchtchev. C'est une femme simple, qui a travaillé dans une usine de pneus pour aider sa famille. The motion, first brought last year by Virginia pastor Mike Law, received the required two-thirds vote by messengers. Another two-thirds vote of approval is necessary at next year’s annual meeting to proceed with the amendment to Article III of the SBC Constitution. The motion that was passed was amended from its original version, which was referred to the SBC Executive Committee last year at the SBC annual meeting in Anaheim, Calif. Juan Sanchez, senior pastor of High Pointe Baptist Church in Austin, Texas, offered the amendment to Law’s motion. Both pastors had discussed and agreed on its merits the previous weekend, Sanchez told fellow messengers. Article III lists five points that place churches within the definition of cooperation with the SBC. The amended motion calls for a sixth, adding churches that affirm, appoint, or employ “only men as any kind of pastor or elder as qualified by Scripture.” Sanchez initially presented his amendment as a “substitute motion.” SBC President Bart Barber, with no objection from the crowd, clarified later that it was being treated as an amendment. The Executive Committee agreed at its meeting on June 12 to bring Law’s motion to the messengers at this year’s meeting. However, the EC’s recommendation included EC opposition to the motion itself, stating that matters of belief ought to be addressed in the Baptist Faith and Message rather than the constitution. Article VI of the Baptist Faith and Message 2000 addresses The Church, stating that “While both men and women are gifted for service in the church, the office of pastor is limited to men as qualified by Scripture.” Bob Bender, pastor emeritus of Cross Fellowship Church in Colorado Springs, Colo., spoke in opposition to the motion. “Southern Baptist brothers and sisters, I beg of you,” he said. “Do not do this. All the liberals have left us. It looks like we conservatives are left to fight amongst ourselves.” Women in associate pastoral roles need to be recognized for their contributions, Bender said. Denny Burk, a messenger from Kenwood Baptist Church in Louisville, Ky., said the amendment “does nothing to diminish [women’s] calling and their work among us.” “We all believe they must be a part of the Great Commission,” said Burk, who also serves as the director of the Center for Gospel and Culture at Boyce College. The heart of the amendment, he continued, “is about how to apply our doctrinal statement to our cooperation when it comes to female pastors.” The vote took place at noon just prior to scheduled luncheons by seminaries and other groups. And by that, I mean they did something that sent shockwaves through a local Massachusetts community, stunned the local school board, and sent the liberal media into meltdown mode. Marshall Simonds Middle School in Burlington, Massachusetts, just outside of Boston, saw an LGBT event wrecked by a pronoun rebellion. Pride flags were destroyed, and chants of 'USA' rang throughout the school. To be more precise, they were chanting, “My pronouns are USA,” while decked out in patriotic colors. The event caused some local school board members to lose sleep over the incident, which proves that some people in this community need to go outside and touch some grass. The coalition is calling for "consequences" for the students who participated in the counter-protest and is urging the district to fill a diversity, equity and inclusion role that they say has been vacant for almost a year. Select Board member Michael Espejo said a "bad light has been cast over our town." "I was very upset, I've lost sleep over it," Espejo said about the incident. "It kind of shocked me to my core. I didn't think something like that could happen in Burlington." Burlington School Committee Chair Martha Simon condemned the incident at a meeting Tuesday night, but declined any specifics on disciplinary actions, stressing the offenders were mere eighth graders. But a room full of parents, mostly of LGBTQ kids, argued that school officials needed to take a stronger stand and use the incident as a "teaching moment" refuting the notion that overt pride displays are somehow not appropriate for schools. The decision comes as the L.A. Dodgers are taking major heat for inviting the radical, anti-Catholic hate group, the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence, to its gay pride night game on June 16. And also as several major corporations, including Bud Light and Target, are facing serious economic losses thanks to their wild-eyed support of the far-left LGBTQ agenda. The Tampa Bay Rays was the first MLB team to announce that players would not wear any rainbow-colored patches or jerseys during the June pride game this year. But, the league kept this change to its pride celebrations very quiet since giving teams dispensation to dump the pride colors and special jerseys back in February, according to the Washington Examiner. The Rays had trouble with the pride night plans last year when several players balked at being forced to wear rainbow colors. At the time, several players rebelled against the pride jerseys and refused to wear them during last year’s pride game. Not all teams are dumping the forced fealty to the groomer agenda. The L.A. Dodgers and San Francisco Giants have announced their intentions to continue wearing the pride jerseys. There has been one team that has eschewed the pride business from the beginning. The Texas Rangers is the only team that has consistently refused to indulge in any demonstrations of “pride” and has never scheduled any “Pride Night” games. Pro baseball is not the only sport to see growing resistance to having “pride” forced on players, games, and their sport. A growing number of NHL players and teams are also turning away from blatant expressions of the groomer agenda. Teams, including the Chicago Blackhawks and the Buffalo Sabres, have experienced issues with using pride jerseys. In addition, San Jose Sharks goalie James Reimer opted out of wearing the jersey, citing his religious convictions. In January, Philadelphia Flyers defenseman Ivan Provorov also decided not to wear his team’s gay pride jersey for similar reasons. And that same month, the New York Rangers opted out of wearing the gay pride jersey. It seems to all be part of a growing trend of Americans finally getting sick and tired of the gay agenda being shoved down everyone’s throats by multi-billion-dollar corporations. Major League Baseball was one of the last major sports to succumb to the extreme woke agenda. It’s time it goes back to being the sport that welcomes everyone to come play baseball, not to be inundated with politics.
