Becoming an astronaut now or in the past was and remains a strict and demanding process. One needs 1,000 hours of pilot-in-command time in a jet aircraft, or two years of relevant professional training, along with a master's degree in STEM fields (not all degrees count), or a Ph.D. and test pilot training, etc. This is just to apply, not to mention 20/20 vision and meeting strict anthropometric requirements, before going through years of tough training. Astronauts are, in essence, the best of the best. And since American space work in particular got off the ground both men and women have made an impact in areas where others would simply not succeed. Therefore it is odd that Jeff Bezos is using his Blue Origin New Shepard rocket, actually shaped like a real penis, to shoot his girlfriend, Lauren Sánchez, and a crew of women into a suborbital flight for 15 minutes in the name of ‘women'. Sánchez, who is a trained pilot, will lead the crew, stating: “It's going to be women who are making a difference in the world and who are impactful and have a message to send.” But perhaps Bezos, Sánchez, and corporate media have forgotten about the countless pioneering women from all over the world who have already done what Blue Origin seeks to do as part of what could be just a PR stunt using women as the hook - Bezos, after all, did cheat on his ex-wife. For example, Kalpana Chawla, the first Indian astronaut, with two advanced engineering degrees and a Ph.D. in aerospace engineering, pioneered vertical take-off and landing concepts now being used by… SpaceX and Bezos' Blue Origin. Peggy Whitson holds the record for the most cumulative days in space period at 665. Christina Koch holds the record for the longest extended stay in space for a woman - 328 days. She also participated with Jessica Meir in the first all-female spacewalk. Kate Rubins was the first astronaut period to sequence DNA in space. Eileen Collins earned four degrees in STEM, economics and management while finding time to become a U.S. AF pilot, and eventually become the first woman ever to pilot a space shuttle. She also docked with the Russian space station and facilitated the deployment of the Chandra X-ray Observatory. The first African American woman in space, Mae Jemison, born in 1956 in Alabama went on to earn an engineering degree in her teens, and a doctorate shortly after, before becoming an astronaut and carrying out 44 science experiments in space. Nicole Mann become the first Native woman in space in 2022. Then there is the first American woman in space, Sally Ride, with a Ph.D. in physics and several NASA missions to her name. She also investigated the Challenger disaster and the Columbia crash. The first two women in space, however, were Russian, paving the way for all others: Valentina Tereshkova and Svetlana Savitskaya. Dismissing this inspiring history demeans and degrades and erases women from history.*The is the FREE archive, which includes advertisements. The Blue Origin "crew" thinks they made history. Laika the Space Dog and Valentina Tereshkova would like a word. Bernie and AOC's Revolutionary Agitation Tour continues. So do the arson attacks. Weird, huh? Bill Maher's blasphemous dinner at Berchtesgaden. Liberals are as responsible for Trump as MAGA. Any open society is by nature defenseless against effective totalitarian movements. Centrism is the only bulwark against fanaticism. Congrats Broncos! Like it? Rate, review, and share it! More: https://toddzillax.substack.com/ https://www.youtube.com/user/MichDJ712

Hello, listeners! It's time for a new Brave Story.
¡Hola, oyentes!
We jump right back in where we left off in Part 1 of our interview with Dr. Cady Coleman, astronaut, chemist, engineer, flautist, and most recently, the author of “Sharing Space: An Astronaut's Guide to Mission, Wonder, and Making Change.” (If you missed it, listen to Part 1 here.) Chuck asks Cady to tell us more about NASA's decision to not include small and extra-large spacesuits to “save space.” She explains how, a few months later, they reinstated the extra-large suits, but not the small suits that affected about a third of the women, and the serious impact that decision had. Chuck and Cady discuss the importance of diverse perspectives in the exploration of space. And then Cady offers her ideas about how to change the world for the better and the importance of doing what you can to help the people who come next. You'll hear about astronaut Ron Garan and his nonprofit's efforts to provide millions of filter straws to allow people in Africa to have access to safe, clean water. And you'll hear about how you can purposefully shift your own perspectives. For Part 2's first question, Anne W. a student at “The School Without Walls” in Washington, D.C., asks, “What are some common reasons as to why people don't become astronauts after starting training?” Cady explains why that rarely happens, mostly due the quality of the candidates who make it that far. But Cady then talks about why some people who should get selected to become astronauts don't, and she shares some of her reasoning for the applicants she's selected. The reason Cady stresses most is that if you don't show them who you really are on the application, they cannot pick you. And she also explains the surprising reason why some astronauts who have flown already don't get selected to go again. The conversation circles back to diversity and bias in NASA. Allen shares the story of test pilot Ed Dwight, which he believes reflects some racial bias. Cady, who knew Ed, talks about some of the political factors in the choice, but also what an amazing artist he became. She reflects on the importance of Sally Ride in her life, and wonders what would have happened if the original Mercury 13 had been allowed to become astronauts back in the 60s. Charles and Allen bring up Valentina Tereshkova, the cosmonaut who became the first woman in space in 1963, and how it took until 1983 for Sally Ride to take her famous flight as the first American woman. And yes, Cady does bring up “For All Mankind!” and “the role that art and storytelling can play to move the needle a little faster.” For our final question, Allen shares a question from our podcast producer Leslie M., who asks, “Would materials behave differently in a different universe?” Cady, a chemical engineer who studied chemistry at M.I.T. and then got her Ph.D. degree in polymer science and engineering from the University of Massachusetts Amherst, says yes. And that kicks off a discussion of the impact of different physics on different materials. But Cady also talks about the importance of using the compelling nature of space to drive kids to want to become more educated and to improve life here on Earth. In addition to Cady's new book, Cady was recently in a documentary on PBS, Amazon Prime, and Apple TV, along with her family, NASA personnel and other astronauts. It's called “Space: The Longest Goodbye” and it's about how we are going to send people to Mars and put the human into human spaceflight. You can find out more about her new book and everything else she's up to on her website, https://www.cadycoleman.com/. “A girl should be two things: who and what she wants” ? Coco Chanel What are the pressures society puts upon teenage girls? Teen hosts Julia and Keerthi have a lively discussion about their struggles and experiences with peers, parents, and social media encounters, including posts of unrealistic body images and beauty standards. They then converse with guest author, Chelsey Goodan, with her book, Underestimated. It is obvious that Chelsey honors teen girls and really listens and cares about their challenges and concerns. Chelsea is nonjudgmental adult who teenage girls trust to share their innermost secrets and doubts — all the things they wish they could communicate to their parents and the world at large. She uniquely understands what makes teenage girls tick, and through this book, Goodan passes the mic to them. Rather than dismissing teenage girls based on fears or treating them as problems that need to be solved, Goodan encourages us as parents, and as a society, to help teenage girls unleash their power and celebrate their intrinsic wisdom, creating more healing and connection for everyone. With her vivacious personality, Chelsea conveys love and understanding while encouraging listeners to listen and engage with teens. On today's segment of “Space Spotlight”, reporter Saanvi celebrates the pioneering women in space history and the inspiring lessons they've imparted to generations of young dreamers, especially the teenage girls who look up at the night sky and see a canvas of endless possibilities. She starts with Valentina Tereshkova, the first woman to orbit our planet. Then showcases Sally Ride's achievements and efforts in STEM education, followed by other young female space groundbreakers including Mae Jemison, Christina Koch, Katherine Johnson, and Peggy Whitson. The courage of these women encourages young women to aspire to leadership roles in their careers. Teen girls are wise and powerful.

This is Garrison Hardie with your CrossPolitic Daily News Brief for Friday, June 16th, 2023. It’s been awhile guys, how about we start today with a little “On this day in history!” June 16th, on this day in history: 1779 Spain declares war on Great Britain in support of France and the USA, starting the Great Siege of Gibraltar which goes on to last 3 years, 7 months and 2 weeks 1858 Abraham Lincoln says "A house divided against itself cannot stand" accepting Illinois Republican Party's nomination for the Senate 1963 Soviet space mission Vostok 6 is launched with Valentina Tereshkova onboard, who becomes the 1st woman in space 2000 Israel complies with UN Security Council Resolution 425 after 22 years, which calls on Israel to completely withdraw from Lebanon. Israel withdraws from all of Lebanon, except the disputed Sheba Farms Film & TV 1960 "Psycho", psychological horror film directed by Alfred Hitchcock, starring Janet Leigh, Anthony Perkins, and Vera Miles, opens in New York City 1978 Film "Grease" opens, starring John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John, based on the 1971 musical https://www.baptistpress.com/resource-library/news/southern-baptists-pass-first-approval-of-constitutional-amendment-over-women-pastors/ Southern Baptists pass first approval of constitutional amendment over women pastors A motion to clarify Southern Baptists’ stance on women and men filling the role of pastor was passed by messengers on June 14. The motion, first brought last year by Virginia pastor Mike Law, received the required two-thirds vote by messengers. Another two-thirds vote of approval is necessary at next year’s annual meeting to proceed with the amendment to Article III of the SBC Constitution. The motion that was passed was amended from its original version, which was referred to the SBC Executive Committee last year at the SBC annual meeting in Anaheim, Calif. Juan Sanchez, senior pastor of High Pointe Baptist Church in Austin, Texas, offered the amendment to Law’s motion. Both pastors had discussed and agreed on its merits the previous weekend, Sanchez told fellow messengers. Article III lists five points that place churches within the definition of cooperation with the SBC. The amended motion calls for a sixth, adding churches that affirm, appoint, or employ “only men as any kind of pastor or elder as qualified by Scripture.” Sanchez initially presented his amendment as a “substitute motion.” SBC President Bart Barber, with no objection from the crowd, clarified later that it was being treated as an amendment. The Executive Committee agreed at its meeting on June 12 to bring Law’s motion to the messengers at this year’s meeting. However, the EC’s recommendation included EC opposition to the motion itself, stating that matters of belief ought to be addressed in the Baptist Faith and Message rather than the constitution. Article VI of the Baptist Faith and Message 2000 addresses The Church, stating that “While both men and women are gifted for service in the church, the office of pastor is limited to men as qualified by Scripture.” Bob Bender, pastor emeritus of Cross Fellowship Church in Colorado Springs, Colo., spoke in opposition to the motion. “Southern Baptist brothers and sisters, I beg of you,” he said. “Do not do this. All the liberals have left us. It looks like we conservatives are left to fight amongst ourselves.” Women in associate pastoral roles need to be recognized for their contributions, Bender said. Denny Burk, a messenger from Kenwood Baptist Church in Louisville, Ky., said the amendment “does nothing to diminish [women’s] calling and their work among us.” “We all believe they must be a part of the Great Commission,” said Burk, who also serves as the director of the Center for Gospel and Culture at Boyce College. The heart of the amendment, he continued, “is about how to apply our doctrinal statement to our cooperation when it comes to female pastors.” The vote took place at noon just prior to scheduled luncheons by seminaries and other groups. Before the final vote, a motion to extend time was defeated. https://townhall.com/tipsheet/mattvespa/2023/06/14/ma-middle-schoolers-foment-a-pronoun-rebellion-during-pride-month-and-the-media-is-aghast-n2624491 Middle Schoolers' USA Rebellion at Pride Event Causes Libs to Melt Down As the kids say nowadays, these middle schoolers are based. And by that, I mean they did something that sent shockwaves through a local Massachusetts community, stunned the local school board, and sent the liberal media into meltdown mode. Marshall Simonds Middle School in Burlington, Massachusetts, just outside of Boston, saw an LGBT event wrecked by a pronoun rebellion. Pride flags were destroyed, and chants of 'USA' rang throughout the school. To be more precise, they were chanting, “My pronouns are USA,” while decked out in patriotic colors. The event caused some local school board members to lose sleep over the incident, which proves that some people in this community need to go outside and touch some grass. Now, the LGBT mob is pushing to punish these kids for exercising their constitutional right to free speech and expression… Listen to the reaction they caused: https://twitter.com/i/status/1669005086167560194 -Play Video Nancy Bonassera, co-chair of the Burlington Equity Coalition, said that students were invited to wear rainbow clothing on June 2 in celebration of Pride Month. The coalition is calling for "consequences" for the students who participated in the counter-protest and is urging the district to fill a diversity, equity and inclusion role that they say has been vacant for almost a year. Select Board member Michael Espejo said a "bad light has been cast over our town." "I was very upset, I've lost sleep over it," Espejo said about the incident. "It kind of shocked me to my core. I didn't think something like that could happen in Burlington." Burlington School Committee Chair Martha Simon condemned the incident at a meeting Tuesday night, but declined any specifics on disciplinary actions, stressing the offenders were mere eighth graders. But a room full of parents, mostly of LGBTQ kids, argued that school officials needed to take a stronger stand and use the incident as a "teaching moment" refuting the notion that overt pride displays are somehow not appropriate for schools. This is just a reminder to get your kids out of public school, and here’s a way to do that! Brexit leader Nigel Farage has foretold of impending, authoritarian measures by Western governments designed to limit people’s movements and vehicle usage under the guise of “climate change” action. Speaking to supporters via social media, Farage warns: “climate lockdowns are coming,” citing a recent limit placed on automobile usage by the far left Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan. In response to one of Khan’s tweets, which encouraged Londoners to “avoid unnecessary car journeys,” Farage argued: “he’s telling us: don’t use your car unnecessarily, no engine idling, no burning of wood or waste.” Khan has often warned of the dangers of climate change and used it to justify London’s “Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ),” which charges Brits £12.50 per day to drive in the capitol. https://twitter.com/i/status/1668555766670802944 - Play Video Now it’s time for my favorite topic, sports! https://www.breitbart.com/sports/2023/06/14/huston-report-mlb-quietly-tells-teams-to-ditch-pride-uniforms/ MLB Quietly Tells Teams to Ditch ‘Pride’ Uniforms Major League Baseball has quietly told teams that they can stop forcing players to wear uniforms and hats adorned with gay pride rainbow colors during their “Pride Night” games. The decision comes as the L.A. Dodgers are taking major heat for inviting the radical, anti-Catholic hate group, the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence, to its gay pride night game on June 16. And also as several major corporations, including Bud Light and Target, are facing serious economic losses thanks to their wild-eyed support of the far-left LGBTQ agenda. The Tampa Bay Rays was the first MLB team to announce that players would not wear any rainbow-colored patches or jerseys during the June pride game this year. But, the league kept this change to its pride celebrations very quiet since giving teams dispensation to dump the pride colors and special jerseys back in February, according to the Washington Examiner. The Rays had trouble with the pride night plans last year when several players balked at being forced to wear rainbow colors. At the time, several players rebelled against the pride jerseys and refused to wear them during last year’s pride game. Not all teams are dumping the forced fealty to the groomer agenda. The L.A. Dodgers and San Francisco Giants have announced their intentions to continue wearing the pride jerseys. There has been one team that has eschewed the pride business from the beginning. The Texas Rangers is the only team that has consistently refused to indulge in any demonstrations of “pride” and has never scheduled any “Pride Night” games. Pro baseball is not the only sport to see growing resistance to having “pride” forced on players, games, and their sport. A growing number of NHL players and teams are also turning away from blatant expressions of the groomer agenda. Teams, including the Chicago Blackhawks and the Buffalo Sabres, have experienced issues with using pride jerseys. In addition, San Jose Sharks goalie James Reimer opted out of wearing the jersey, citing his religious convictions. In January, Philadelphia Flyers defenseman Ivan Provorov also decided not to wear his team’s gay pride jersey for similar reasons. And that same month, the New York Rangers opted out of wearing the gay pride jersey. It seems to all be part of a growing trend of Americans finally getting sick and tired of the gay agenda being shoved down everyone’s throats by multi-billion-dollar corporations. Major League Baseball was one of the last major sports to succumb to the extreme woke agenda. It’s time it goes back to being the sport that welcomes everyone to come play baseball, not to be inundated with politics.
60 years ago today, the Soviet Union astonished the world: RADIO MOSCOW: This is Radio Moscow. For the first time in history, a woman has gone up into outer space. A Soviet citizen, Tereshkova. Valentina Tereshkova was a 26-year-old textile worker. She was picked by Soviet Premier Nikita Khruschev, who was a master of space propaganda. It was the height of the Cold War, and space travel was a powerful symbol of national power. Every space flight was held up as an indicator of a superior way of life. Only a few astronauts and cosmonauts had left Earth by then — all of them men. Sending a woman into orbit was designed to show that the Soviet space program was more advanced than the American one. Khruschev himself selected Tereshkova to fly solo aboard the Vostok 6 capsule. Another cosmonaut was already in orbit, aboard Vostok 5. The two craft briefly passed within three miles of each other. That was trumpeted as a major accomplishment as well. Tereshkova spent three days in space, during which she talked to Khruschev by radio. After returning to Earth, she was awarded the Order of Lenin and became a goodwill ambassador. Tereshkova later was elected to the Russian parliament. But she never flew in space again. Neither did any other woman for almost 20 years. Today, more than 70 women have entered orbit. And female astronauts are training for trips to the Moon — extending the path laid by Valentina Tereshkova. Script by Damond Benningfield Support McDonald Observatory

Dismissing this inspiring history demeans and degrades and erases women from history.

How old was Ruby when she was given her first four-wheel bike? BONUS TRICKY QUESTION: What year did Valentina Tereshkova became the first woman to orbit the earth? ANSWERS: Finswimming uses something called a monofin or a bifin. 1969. An iron ore dumper bin. Crocheting. One. BONUS TRICKY ANSWER: 1963.
In this episode, Brooke interviews Dr. Roshanna P. Sylvester about the letters school children, and in particular young girls wrote to American astronaut, John Glen. Sylvester is an Associate Professor of Critical Media Practices and Digital Humanities at the University of Colorado Boulder. She earned a BA in History at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, an MA in Russian Studies at Yale University, and a Yale PhD in History. Sylvester's current project, Dreams in Orbit: Girls and Space-Age Cultures in Cold War America and the Soviet Union, focuses on letters from Soviet and American young people to the pioneering spacefarers Yuri Gagarin, John Glenn, and Valentina Tereshkova." To the space race we go! Let's get into this!

Valentina Tereshkova, who made history as the first woman in space, once said, “A bird cannot fly with one wing only. Human space flight cannot develop any further without the active participation of women.” Since Tereshkova became the first woman in space in 1963, women have gone on to set many records for spacewalks and long-duration spaceflight on the International Space Station. Another milestone will come in 2024 when NASA aims to land the first woman on the moon under the Artemis program, named for the twin sister of Apollo. Women not only play a role in space exploration by being astronauts, they also work behind the scenes to make the journeys possible.Hidden Figure mathematician Katherine Johnson of the U.S. National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) was instrumental in getting astronauts into orbit safely and helped put humans on the Moon. So, in today's conversation we will give space to amazing and pioneering women who are making space exploration possible and creating technology on Earth shaped by what scientists have found beyond our planet.
