The battle to embrace gratefulness through hardship | with Rachel Wojo

Stephanie welcomes Rachel Wojo, who exhibits grace under pressure. Rachel recounts the hardships she's faced, not as a means of lament, but as a powerful testimony to her faith in God. Throughout the years, Rachel has encountered numerous challenges that have tested her faith and resilience. Rather than succumbing, she has chosen to lean into God's strength. From personal hardships like joblessness and financial stress, to navigating the extraordinary pains of watching her daughter slowly lose her life to a rare disease, and the loss of several other key family members, Rachel's story of tenaciously clinging to Christ proves that it is possible to emerge stronger and more faithful. Rachel shares her story of becoming a single mother to a special needs child after discovering her husband's affair, leading her to rely more deeply on her faith. Her eventual remarriage and the birth of five children, along with the devastating loss of her daughter Taylor to a rare neurological condition, illustrate the peaks and valleys of her journey. What happens when God's answer to our prayer is NO? Rachel shares her journey of praying for her daughter Taylor's earthly healing, only to embrace the eventual understanding that Taylor's true healing would come in heaven. This acceptance of God's broader plan beyond immediate desires offers a deeper understanding and trust in His divine wisdom. Rachel's book, "Desperate Prayers," is a source of comfort and guidance for those struggling with faith and prayer life. Her stories, drawn from personal pain and loss, illustrate the profound transformation that can come from earnest, desperate prayers and a heartfelt surrender to God. Rachel offers vivid examples of the importance of gratitude. She shares how she has learned to recognize "God moments"—serendipitous events that, when noticed, reveal God's subtle presence and guidance in our daily lives. She recalls pivotal moments where choosing to focus on small blessings, such as "noticing the sunshine through the window," helped her navigate through immense grief and trials. This perspective shift, seeing God's work in the gentle, everyday occurrences, has been transformative for her. Rachel reflects on her journey of enduring hardship and witnessing God's hand in the small moments of life. When reflecting on the journey of a faithful servant, it's the moments of hardship and perseverance that vividly stand out. Rachel explores the idea of discovering gratefulness in small, often overlooked, moments. In our fast-paced world, it's easy to become overwhelmed by adversity, missing the simple blessings that God provides daily. Rachel shares how she has cultivated an attitude of gratitude, even during the toughest times. This perspective shift has allowed her to recognize and cherish the small glimpses of joy and blessings in her life. By focusing on God's presence in the mundane and the miraculous, Rachel demonstrates that gratefulness can be a powerful antidote to despair. Stephanie's conversation with Rachel invites all of us to reflect on our own lives and consider how we can embrace gratefulness and deeper faith amidst our trials. Our journeys, no matter how difficult, are imbued with God's grace and presence. So, listen to Rachel's story; and then also introspectively examine your own hardships and blessings. By fostering a heart of gratitude, we too can witness God's hand in our lives and draw strength from it. MEET RACHEL WOJO https://rachelwojo.com/ Rachel says, "Sin erupted in my 'perfect life'. I grew up in a wonderful Christian home with fabulous Christian parents.  Our family was faithful to church, and I graduated from a Christian school.  I attended a Christian college and completed the circle by teaching in a Christian school.  My future husband was a “preacher boy,” and when we married, the plan was that he would take a youth pastor position wherever God led.  Only after we married did he have serious doubts about his calling and stop attending church altogether. After two years of marriage, a precious daughter was born to us via emergency c-section.  She experienced oxygen deprivation and required resuscitation, but she lived. Three years after Taylor's birth, I discovered that her father had been having an affair essentially four of the five years we were married. Despite that great protective environment I'd always known, and being faithful to God's house, sin had erupted in my “perfect” life, and my marriage to this man didn't withstand. Bad choices were made by both parties, and we divorced. Despite all the pain and loss of the “perfect” life, God brought a solid Christian man into my life, and He has given us a wonderful story of grace and redemption. But amid Matt and I falling in love, my dearest mom fell severely ill, diagnosed with a rare type of anemia.  Two months later, the diagnosis was changed to leukemia, and she lived just six short months after that.  Mom was the strongest, most faithful Christian I've ever personally known; she was my best friend. The discovery process for my daughter Taylor's developmental delays became more intense during my divorce and my mom's death.  Doctors often blamed the delays on her lack of oxygen at birth.  But in my heart, I knew there was more to her issues.  Nine months after my mom's death, the diagnosis for Taylor came through: MPSIIIB, a rare genetic metabolic disorder that causes gradual neurological degeneration.  The average life span is 10-15 years, and there is no cure or even a treatment. Upon receiving Taylor's diagnosis, my walk with the Lord became intense.  I asked all the “why” and “how” questions.  I wanted God to spill out His plan for my entire life in one day. But through His Word, God has taught me that faith is not only a one-time decision; it's an everyday decision. Trusting His plan for your everyday life is equally as important as trusting Him for your eternal life. On January 2, 2019, our Taylor graduated to heaven. The heartache and sorrow of our loss, yet heaven's gain, is difficult to describe in a few words. In November 2018, I began writing letters to Taylor because she could no longer communicate. God has richly blessed Matt and me with a beautiful family and more blessings than we can count.  Our incredible six children are growing steadily; they challenge me and bless me in every way. I am so very thankful for them. Each day we live by faith that God would have His will in our lives. Each day we claim God's promises and choose to run towards His plan, no matter what it includes. We are still learning how to take one more step." MORE ABOUT "DESPERATE PRAYERS" Do your prayers resemble last-minute cries more than first-response chats? Each chapter's simple three-word prayer focus will deepen your trust and affirm your heart that it's best to be you before God. Her prayer journey and promising principles will guide you from frenzied desperation to dependent faith. Jesus didn't just tell us we should connect with God, but He demonstrated to us what it means and looks like to connect with God through prayer.

A Voice in The Desert Podcast

What Is Prayer?   One of the ways God allows his creation to stay involved with him is through prayer. Prayer, which is personal communication from us to God, not only helps us know about God but also helps us truly know God. Through prayer we can communicate our requests to God, confess our sins to God, and give adoration, praise, and thanksgiving to God.   The Reason for Prayer   God does not want us to pray so that he can find out what we need, for Jesus said, “Your Father knows what you need before you ask him” (Matt. 6:8). Instead, God wants us to pray so that our dependence on him can increase. When we come to him in prayer about something, we express a trust in him, a trust that he will hear and answer our prayers. That is why Jesus compares our prayers to a child asking his father for a fish or an egg (Luke 11:9–12). As a child trusts and expects his father to provide for him, so we ought to expect, in faith, that God will provide for us. That is why Jesus said, “Whatever you ask in prayer, you will receive, if you have faith” (Matt. 21:22).

It aims to train people to talk to God, share their faith, and evangelize without fear.[04:44] Daughter of the Most High KingLaurel first experienced a rigid relationship with God, driven by fear and duty rather than love. She was taught to fear Him and felt at fault for Christ's suffering and sacrifice. She learned the truth in college. Laurel realized God's love for her and changed her perspective as the daughter of the High King.Your relationship with Christ and how you see yourself in the eyes of God changes your Christian life.Laurel lived in fear and was bound by it. Jesus pulled her free so that she could move in Him and talk to God without fear.Don't simply listen and believe what others say. You also need to examine what you believe and study it. Use the Word of God and the many resources we have today to stand boldly in our faith.[21:11] What Is Prayer and Why Is It An Integral Part of Your Life?Prayer is the heart's posture and soul's surrender in communion with God. We need to focus our hearts and minds on our time and conversation with God.Even if God knows everything, He still wants to hear from you and communicate with love through prayer. [22:46] Laurel: “When we have both our heart and our soul, in communion with God, without fear or shame, we can communicate with the one who loves us and knows us best.” Like in any relationship, communication is important. Talk to God. Maintain your union with Him through communion in prayer.Pray to the One True God and not to any false gods. Don't let idols distract and divide your heart and mind.A lot of people were never taught about prayer. However, it's important to learn about prayer, fasting, and meditating on God's Words to keep you focused on your intimate relationship with God.[30:42] Understanding Prayer in the Word of GodLaurel talks about John 17, the moment when Jesus is preparing to sacrifice Himself to take on our sins. He prays not just for His disciples but also for His future believers.Daniel's prayer, Hannah's prayer, and Esther's prayer show their honesty and their hearts on display as they pray to God. It is this honesty and knowledge that they can go to God for grace and help that is in these prayers.Jesus is constantly interceding and fighting for us. He prays for us, the Holy Spirit is with us, and angels watch over us to protect us.Even when you're too busy or have no words, you can do it anywhere and however short or long. It doesn't have to be perfect.Beyond the power of prayer in strengthening our intimate relationship with God, it also aligns our minds and prepares and protects us. Prayer is a part of our armor.[49:38] Living a Prayer LifeGod listens and recognizes our pain. He might not always act on it how and when we want Him to but it's important to trust Him.Understand God's character and His many names. From El Roi, Jehovah Shalom, and more, these names help you understand the vastness and multifaceted nature of God.We know Jesus from a human point of view. However, we can know Him differently and remember how we're made new through His sacrifice.Coming together in prayer can be powerful. Laurel and Reagan talk about their tabernacle experience where they felt the Holy Spirit come and sit with them.Read the Scripture and the conversations between God and His people. The simple personal prayers based on His Word can be the most powerful.[01:05:30] The Power of Praying Out LoudPraying out loud is a proclamation of faith. It is a way to decree and declare God's truth and authority. With His absolute authority, prayer pushes back the enemy and denies the power of what Satan speaks. As we pray, it's important to believe in God's strength especially when you are weak.Prayer and God's Word can pull you out of negative emotions and situations, just like how Laurel was pulled out of her fear by building her faith through prayer.Don't be afraid, the Lord is with you. Get past the fear and resignation to go and spread the gospel and faith. [01:13:53] Reagan: “Proclaim who Jesus is and that you are covered in the blood of Christ so that the enemy can't touch you. There is power in speaking that out loud that the enemy knows that you are speaking in your authority in shutting the door.”[01:14:17] Why Pray?Prayer is a gift that was given to us, no strings attached; all you have to do is accept it.Know that God responds, He hears, sees, knows, understands, and loves us.In your relationship with God, commune with him. Talk to God and let him know that you love Him. Know too that God loves you. It's worth cultivating your relationship with God so that you can stand before Him and worship Him for what He's done.[01:17:22] Laurel's Answered PrayerGod has always opened a door for Laurel when one closes as she applies for a job. However, that didn't happen for Laurel. Instead, God answered in a different way by providing rest, allowing her to preach, and travel the world. [01:19:03] Laurel: “Answered prayer oftentimes doesn't come in one giant perfected, tied with a bow, answer. Sometimes it comes unrolling something where you get bit by bit.” Stepping into a new season of life for Laurel, her answered prayer was revealed little by little. It is through this time of elongated prayer that she was able to get to know God, talk to God, cultivate an intimate relationship with Him, and learn to forgive and trust.God wants you. He is listening. The first step to communicating with God is to receive Him as your Lord and Saviour.About LaurelLaurel Bunker is a dynamic preacher, educator, and leader with over 30 years of experience in ministry, higher education, and non-profit sectors. Have you ever wondered sometimes, why should I even pray? Does it really accomplish anything? And sometimes when I did pray, my prayers never seemed to get answered. Also, maybe you were never really taught how to pray or know how to pray. So, it is just easier to not pray at all. Even worse, maybe you don’t think God will hear your prayers because you don’t act or think right all the time and struggle with sin. And what really is prayer? We have all probably thought some of these things over our lives. If we are even wanting to try to live a biblical based life, we have had to confront these questions or issues. Jesus prayed a lot. He gave many examples on how to pray and the bible is full of ideas on praying. This message just sticks to the very basics of prayer. It is hoped it will give you a jump start if you have never prayed and will encourage you to continue in prayer if you are in the habit of praying.

What Is Prayer?.

Mensimah's Round Table: Conversations with Women of Power and Grace

I don't mean a lot of vain repetitions that seldom have the attention even of the one repeating them, much less of the Lord. Go to the Bible, and you will learn how to pray.Out of 600,000 words in the Old Testament, only six, when literally translated, mean to “ask for” things in prayer, and each of these six is used but once.Against that, the word “palal” is used hundreds of times to signify “to pray.” And “palal” means—“To judge yourself to be a marvel of creation; to recognize amazing wonders deep within your soul.”Wouldn't that seem to indicate that prayer was meant to be a realization of the powers deep within[…]”Excerpt FromEffective PrayerRobert Collierhttps://books.apple.com/us/book/effective-prayer/id510901763Autobiographyhttps://mensimah.com/sankofa/Please subscribe/support our channelsReflective/Inner Work: https://www.patreon.com/join/mensimahshabazzphdDonation/Support: https://PayPal.Me/MRTPodcast https://mensimahs-round-table.captivate.fm/supporthttps://mensimahs-round-table-conversations.onpodium.co/donateContact Links:Mensimah's Round Table - Join Women's Group on Facebookhttps://www.facebook.com/groups/191292605667511Mensimah's Round Table Podcast:https://mensimahs-round-table-conversations.onpodium.co/https://mensimahs-round-table.captivate.fmWebsite:https://mensimah.comInstagram:@mensimahshabazzphdYouTube:https://youtube.com/@mensimahsroundtableCreate Your E-book:Write your story using an easy E-book template!http://sikayede.sqribblex.hop.clickbank.net

We tend to think of prayer as belonging only to religion. It doesn't belong to life, it belong to religion. For those who don't pray there is a tendency to believe that prayer is dependency on magical thinking. Or perhaps we say that we forget to pray. But the biggest question here is What IS Prayer? Is it just the words that we say to a higher being? If so, what are we allowed to say and what is inappropriate to say? More importantly, what will prayer mean if it doesn't get answered as we'd hoped? And is it possible that prayer is actually very different than what we have imagined it to be? Don't miss this show.

Welcome back! We cover much in our Pathways to God's presence series today. We invite you to grow into the moment by moment surrender to God's will and whisper as, together, we practice the presence of God today. Stephanie says, “There is a virtuous cycle between what we believe and who we become. We develop this strategy of turning belief into identity through habits of spiritual disciplines.” After establishing the dangers we face as we walk the pathways towards God – namely, the flesh, the world and the devil –, Stephanie takes us on a trip through the French language to experience spiritual disciplines as holy clothing to be worn daily. Then, we dive into the three aspects of prayer, Bible intake and worship we will cover today. They include, CONFESSION AS PRAYER: Confession is the path to freedom. Confession is not groveling before an angry God. It focuses on removing sin from self. It is an essential pathway to humility, self-knowledge. Honestly assess your heart before the Lord, daily, or more. Whenever you feel that little twinge of the heart, this little prick from the Holy Spirit who kindly informs you that you have need for forgiveness. He knows, and he lets you know. not to condemn you, but to bring you to freedom through releasing the burden for Him to carry and cancel. The habit of confession is powerful. It is the gateway to true, lasting freedom. MEDITATION AS BIBLE INTAKE: When we meditate upon Scripture, we practice the presence of God. We enter His presence, we remain and dwell there. It is a good foundation for a good day, and little by little the daily puzzle pieces of Christ-centered meditation color our lives with freedom, gratitude and no small measure of humility and patience. EVANGELISM AS WORSHIP: Pondering Scripture is a form of worship, too, in the sense that we are preaching the Word of Truth to our own hearts. It is a form of evangelism! And evangelism, which is the sharing of the truth of Scripture, is a powerful and effective form of worship. Confession in prayer. Meditation of Scripture. Evangelization as worship. They are all encapsulated in the dedication of the temple by Solomon, and they are rooted in the presence of God whose glory has come to dwell in our hearts and lives through the HS. Jesus has clothed you with garments of salvation, and equipped you with everything you need to walk the pathways to His presence. You are dedicated for holy use, set apart as a vessel created to honor your Lord and King. We are all priests and priestesses to God, in Christ. He has dressed you with the habit befitting your priestly set-apart position: “the victor will be dressed in white clothes, and I will never erase his name from the book of life but will acknowledge his name before My Father and before His angels” (Revelation 3:5, HCSB). You are dressed in Christ with white robes of purity, victory, and eternal life. Your robe is your habit. BECOME A MEMBER TO ACCESS EXCLUSIVE LISTENING GUIDES FOR EACH EPISODE IN OUR SERIES! How do I encounter God today? | Pathways to God's presence

Our goal is to enter and remain in the presence of God through the pathways He has ordained for this purpose. The presence of God is our path and our destination. In Hebrew, the word Presence and the word Face are the same. In the ancient world without zoom and facetime, you could only be in the presence of someone when you were face to face with them. There was no remote presence. Each week we are going to approach the pathways to God's presence, or the spiritual disciplines, by linking one element of prayer with one aspect of Bible intake and one facet of worship. This is our second episode in our Pathways to God's presence series. If you missed our intro, please make sure to listen to last week's episode, episode 185. We spent time laying out the land of what this series is about –the spiritual disciplines with a twist. We established that Jesus is the only pathway to God's presence, and that He offers to teach us, through the Holy Spirit, how to nurture intimacy with God through the practice of timeless biblical principles that He himself role-modeled. If Jesus catered to His relationship with His Father through prayer, Scripture intake, and worship in various forms, then we too will benefit from the same. We are seeing today that prayer, in its essential form, is adoration. All the other elements of confession, thanksgiving and intercession are rooted in adoration. God is not safe confessing to, if he is not the utterly majestic Being we adore; God is not worthy of our thanks if He is not the resplendent glorious Being who gives us all things and works all things for our good; God is not safe coming to when we have needs, if He is not the perfectly omnipotent and otherworldly generous and gentle Sovereign who has chosen to be introduced to us with the meek and loving title of Father. About prayer, Stephanie says, “you are never more Christlike than when you adore God lavishly.” We consider the study of Scripture as the essential element to know God. We adore God most when we are most aware of His perfection, beauty, loveliness and holiness. In other words, when we are saturated with the knowledge of Him. And we can only know God from the place where He has specifically revealed Himself – Scripture. It means, we need to spend time in Scripture. We need to read it widely, and deeply both. We need to rake for leaves and dig for diamonds, as countless Bible teachers have described over many centuries. We interact with Scripture first and foremost to know God. Yes, the Bible gives us much about our relationships with one another, and about ourselves too. We will discuss these elements in the weeks to come. But the main, primary, most essential purpose of the Bible is to draw us into the presence of God. When the Holy Spirit who lives within our hearts opens the words of the Scriptures to us, we are allowed into the presence of God. We get a glimpse of His face and behold His presence. It transforms us forever because, like the light that shone on Moses face when he came down the mountain after having spent time with God, the light of the knowledge of the glory of God is found in the radiant face of Christ Jesus our Lord (2Cor 4:6). So, we read and study Scripture to know who God is. The essence of this approach is actually worship. My primary goal is to meet God through the pages that He wrote. I want to know Him more. If I can discern a new glimpse into His face, if I can learn something new about the depths of His love and kindness and majesty and power, then I am a happy camper. A happy worshiper. Bible intake should always stem from adoration and lead to worship, which are essentially the same thing. So today we looked at the element of adoration in prayer, and we have seen how intricately connected it is to the element of public worship. We have looked at a fresh way to study Scripture, all with the primary goal to KNOW GOD MORE because it's a virtuous cycle: the more you know God, the more you are going to desire to adore Him, and the more you adore Him, the purer your heart gets, and this allow you in turn to experience deeper intimacy with Him, which is the ultimate form of knowledge. Which leads to more adoration, etc. I think this is the ultimate virtuous cycle, spiritually speaking, this side of heaven. I believe it is the essence of what our experience in heaven will be: utter delight in His presence, a heart growing fuller each moment because of an ever-deeper awareness and experience of His presence, beauty and loveliness. I think we have utterly no idea of how enjoyable heaven will be. We have no frame of reference, no clue for the ecstasy that awaits. This holy cycle of adoration and intimacy with God is its closest equivalent here on earth. We have the fullness of the Spirit of Christ within us, because that same spirit had been living in the incarnated Christ. Jesus is the pathway to the presence of God, and more than that. He is God Himself. Jesus is the pathway and the destination. He is the way and the goal. The Holy Spirit is your teacher and guide into the pathways to the presence of God through Jesus Christ our matchless Lord. Adore, behold, worship Him who was, and is and is to come. Partakers Bible Thought 10 November 2021 The Lord's Prayer - 02 What Is Prayer? 13 Is anyone among you in trouble? Let them pray. Is anyone happy? Let them sing songs of praise. 14 Is anyone among you ill? Let them call the elders of the church to pray over them and anoint them with oil in the name of the Lord. 15 And the prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well; the Lord will raise them up. If they have sinned, they will be forgiven. 16 Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective. 17 Elijah was a human being, even as we are. He prayed earnestly that it would not rain, and it did not rain on the land for three and a half years. 18 Again he prayed, and the heavens gave rain, and the earth produced its crops. (James 5:13-18) G'day! Welcome to Partakers Podcasts! Over the next few podcasts we are looking together at Prayer. We will do this by taking apart slowly perhaps one of the best known passages of the Bible, in what we call the Lord's Prayer. It is a prayer which is common to all churches of all denominations, just as it is known to those of other faiths and indeed, no faith at all. Prayer is to be at the centre of our relationship between God and ourselves. Prayer should be the major action of fellowship between God and humans, and of humans communicating with God, both in talking and listening. Prayer is also a way of “letting God in” to our lives as people of God, Christians, and of enjoying the company of God, relating all aspects of life to Him. Prayer is also a means of protection for us, in that we are too weak in our own understanding and strength to withstand all that is against us. God Himself assists us as we pray: where our desires and yearnings are corrected and strengthened. Prayers expressing desires and thoughts offer a contributory way to the journey of the Christian Disciple. As we know and we shall see in coming Podcasts, the Lord's Prayer is a superb biblical example of prayer. WELCOME to The WELLNESS FOURplay Podcast Episode 30: The Power of Prayer We KNOW that Knowledge is the “foreplay” to your Wellness, so we want to make sure you are equipped to optimize yours!  1. WHAT IS PRAYER? A solemn request for help or expression of thanks addressed to a higher power. A conversation between you and your creator that includes you talking and, through meditation, listening. 2. WHO ARE WE TALKING TO WHEN WE PRAY? God, our creator. In Genesis, the first book of the Bible, we see that God created everything: light, earth, water, air, plants, animals, and humans. God created the entire world out of nothing. And everything that God created, God called “good.” God saved the best for the last day of creation; he created man and woman in his own image. He is unchanging, love, faithful and knowable. Prayer is a way that we can get to KNOW God. 3. WHY DO WE PRAY? For most it is when something is hard or has gone wrong, a family member is sick, lost a job, or we need direction. For others, they have developed a relationship with God and have a prayer in their heart at all times, living their lives through His direction. We pray when others we care about are in need. 4. ARE ALL PRAYERS ANSWERED? YES! Be grateful and praise Him when they are answered the way you had hoped for. Be looking the door to open for your next opportunity IF it seems your prayer was not answered. When I prayed for an answer to my health struggles and asked God to show me WHY what we were doing wasn't working... the answer I received was definitely not what I expected. He is always working things out for good in our lives. We want to personally invite you back July 5th for Episode 31 where we will be talking about HEALING! Matthew 4:4 says, “Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God” Being saturated in prayer isn't a religious routine, or meant to be something that's unnatural for people. Being saturated in prayer is living a life that's in union with God. God not only love you, He likes you and wants to be with you! We hope you are encouraged as you listen to this week's podcast!

Pastor Staten's message this morning focuses on the important question of "what is prayer?" +Prayer is God's invitation to visit with Him. +His love calls us to prayer, which is proof of His ability to stand in His presence. +Prayer is our need, crying out. If I pray, He will answer! This is Pastor Staten's 3rd message in the 3 month series on prayer.
