    WELCOME to The WELLNESS FOURplay Podcast Episode 30: The Power of Prayer We KNOW that Knowledge is the “foreplay” to your Wellness, so we want to make sure you are equipped to optimize yours!  1. WHAT IS PRAYER? A solemn request for help or expression of thanks addressed to a higher power. A conversation between you and your creator that includes you talking and, through meditation, listening. 2. WHO ARE WE TALKING TO WHEN WE PRAY? God, our creator. In Genesis, the first book of the Bible, we see that God created everything: light, earth, water, air, plants, animals, and humans. God created the entire world out of nothing. And everything that God created, God called “good.” God saved the best for the last day of creation; he created man and woman in his own image. He is unchanging, love, faithful and knowable. Prayer is a way that we can get to KNOW God. 3. WHY DO WE PRAY? For most it is when something is hard or has gone wrong, a family member is sick, lost a job, or we need direction. For others, they have developed a relationship with God and have a prayer in their heart at all times, living their lives through His direction. We pray when others we care about are in need. 4. ARE ALL PRAYERS ANSWERED? YES! Be grateful and praise Him when they are answered the way you had hoped for. Be looking the door to open for your next opportunity IF it seems your prayer was not answered. When I prayed for an answer to my health struggles and asked God to show me WHY what we were doing wasn't working... the answer I received was definitely not what I expected. He is always working things out for good in our lives. We want to personally invite you back July 5th for Episode 31 where we will be talking about HEALING! I will have had my explant surgery (for more see Episode 22) and be 6 weeks into my healing.     WELCOME to The WELLNESS FOURplay Podcast Episode 26: Epigenetics We KNOW that Knowledge is the "foreplay" to your Wellness, so we want to make sure you are equipped to be your OWN Super Hero in your wellness journey! Equipping you with the KNOWLEDGE you need to have the HEALTH you so desire! 1. WHAT IS EPIGENETICS?  The study of how Genes/DNA can be influenced, for a different expression, by your behaviors and environment. 2. WHY IS UNDERSTANDING IT IMPORTANT?  Awareness is power and gives you the knowledge that your choices matter. -Where you live, who you associate with, the air you breathe and water you drink... even the thoughts you think and habits you have, can influence the way your genes express themselves. 3. HOW DO ENVIRONMENTAL AND OTHER TOXINS FIT INTO EPIGENETICS?  Ground water is susceptible to pollutants: road salt, toxic substances from mining sites and even used motor oil may seep into groundwater. It is even possible for untreated waste from septic tanks and toxic chemicals from underground storage tanks and leaky landfills to contaminate groundwater.  The air we breathe: Whether it comes from your car's exhaust pipe, dirty smokestacks or a forest fire, air pollution can be deadly and cause extremely negative gene expression. Screen time: Overstimulation by blue lights, EMF's, 5G etc. More to come on a future episode. 4. WHAT ARE SOME EXAMPLES OF THE CONSEQUENCES OF EPIGENETICS? - The immediate effects of drinking polluted water can include contraction of cholera, typhoid fever and dysentery while the long-term effects include serious damage to the kidney, liver, bone and brain. Toxic air pollutants pose different risks to health depending on the specific pollutants, including: Cancer, including lung, kidney, bone, stomach, Harm to the nervous system and brain. Birth defects, Irritation to the eyes, nose and throat, Coughing and wheezing-Impaired lung function, Harm to the cardiovascular system and Reduced fertility. Habits such as smoking and drinking alcohol can have extremely negative results while exercise can have very good influence over your genes.     WELCOME to The WELLNESS FOURplay Podcast Episode 25: Genetics and Your Genes We KNOW that Knowledge is the "foreplay" to your Wellness, so we want to make sure you are equipped to be your OWN Super Hero in your wellness journey! Equipping you with the KNOWLEDGE you need to have the HEALTH you so desire! 1. WHAT IS GENETICS?  Genetics is the study of genes and the variation of characteristics that are influenced by genes—including physical and psychological characteristics. All human traits, from one's height to one's fear of heights, are driven by a complex interplay between the expression of inherited genes and feedback from the environment. 2. HOW ARE YOUR GENETICS DETERMINED?  Through GENES you get from your mom and dad. A gene is the basic unit through which genetic information is stored and passed between generations. Physically, a gene is a specific section of one of the long, double-helix-shaped DNA molecules that appear in each cell of the body. The genome is the entirety of the genetic material contained in an individual. Human DNA is estimated to contain between 20,000 and 25,000 genes. The vast majority of each person's genome is identical to that of the next person, but the portion that differs is consequential for how individuals develop. 3. WHAT DO YOUR GENETICS TELL YOU?  In addition to visible traits like weight and eye color, psychological qualities such as personality traits (such as being extroverted and being agreeable), intelligence, risk of mental illness, and many others are to some extent influenced by genetics. Genes do not account for all of the differences between people on these characteristics, but research indicates that they have a substantial impact. Body types: Ectomorph, Mesomorph and Endomorph 4. ARE YOU BOUND BY YOUR GENETICS OR CAN THEY BE INFLUENCED?  To some extent you are bound. Traits you are born with... you can alter them chemically or surgically, but your GENES are the same. There are many ways that you can influence your genes and how they express themselves. - Epigenetics: Epigenetics is the study of how the environment and other factors can change the way that genes are expressed.  Nutrigenomics - Nutrigenomics aims to identify the effects that the nutrients, in your food or natural compounds, have on the function and expression of the genes in your body. No, that is a catch phrase coined by an industry that makes a lot of money on humans purchasing milk. The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) recently asked the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) to look into the scientific basis of the claims made in the “milk mustache” ads. Their panel of scientists stated: Milk does not benefit sports performance. There's no evidence that dairy is good for your bones or prevents osteoporosis — in fact, the animal protein it contains may help cause bone loss! 2.WHY IS COW'S MILK NOT GOOD FOR HUMAN CONSUMPTION? Until 10,000 years ago we didn't domesticate animals and drink cow's milk. The majority of humans naturally stop producing significant amounts of lactase, the enzyme needed to properly metabolize lactose, the sugar in milk, sometime between the ages of two and five. In fact, for most mammals, the normal condition is to stop producing the enzymes needed to properly digest and metabolize milk after they have been weaned. Our bodies just weren't made to digest milk on a regular basis. Instead, most scientists agree that it's better for us to get calcium, potassium, protein, and fats from other food sources, like whole plant foods: vegetables, fruits, beans, whole grains, nuts, seeds, and seaweed. 3. WHAT ARE SOME OF THE FRIGHTENING FACTS ABOUT MILK? Increased risk of prostate cancer, ovarian cancer. May trigger type 1 diabetes through molecular mimicry. Higher rate of multiple sclerosis, increased IGF-1 (Insulin-like Growth Factor-1) that has been implicated in several cancers. Increased cholesterol levels (human and animal studies) and atherosclerosis (animal studies). Milk protein (casein) found to promote cancer by a carcinogen in experimental animal studies.  D-galactose has been found to be pro-inflammatory and promotes aging.  Linked to acne.  Implicated in constipation and ear infections.  Most common self-reported food allergen in the world. Much of the world's population (75%) cannot adequately digest milk due to lactose intolerance. Environmental Concerns. 4. WHAT OTHER MILK ALTERNATIVES ARE THERE AND OPTIONS FOR CALCIUM/BONE SUPPORT?  Almond Milk: Almond milk has a light, sweet, nutty flavor and is low in calories, fat and carbohydrates. Coconut Milk: Coconut milk has a creamy, milk-like consistency and a sweet, coconut taste. It contains no protein, little to no carbohydrates and is high in medium-chain triglycerides (MCTs), a type of saturated fat. Oat Milk: Oat milk has a mild, sweet flavor. It is high in protein and fiber, but also high in calories and carbohydrates. Oat milk contains beta-glucan, which can help lower cholesterol and blood sugar levels. are our preferred options. Rice Milk: Rice milk is the most hypoallergenic nondairy milk. It is low in fat and protein yet high in carbohydrates. Soy Milk: Soy milk is made from whole soybeans or soy protein isolate. It has a creamy, mild taste and other than goats milk, is the most similar in nutrition to cow's milk. Soy milk is often seen as controversial, though drinking soy milk in moderation is unlikely to cause harm. Cashew Milk: Cashew milk has a rich and creamy taste and is low in calories, carbohydrates and sugar. On the downside, it contains very little protein, and may not be the best option for those with higher protein requirements. Macadamia Milk: Macadamia milk is a relatively new milk to the market. It's made from macadamia nuts and has a rich, creamy taste. Macadamia milk is high in monounsaturated fats and low in calories and carbohydrates. For healthy bones, get plenty of exercise, vitamin D (sun and supplement 2,000 IU daily). Eat “calcium rich” foods: dark green leafy vegetables, sesame tahini, sea vegetables, and sardines or salmon with the bones. Note: If you have to feed your child formula from milk, don't worry. The milk in infant formula is hydrolyzed or broken down and easier to digest (although it can still cause allergies). Once your child is a year old, switch him or her to real food and almond milk. WHAT IS B.I.I.?  Breast implant illness (BII) is a term that some women and doctors use to refer to a wide range of symptoms that can develop after undergoing reconstruction or cosmetic augmentation with breast implants. It is also sometimes referred to as autoimmune/inflammatory syndrome induced by adjuvants (ASIA). BII can occur with any type of breast implant, including silicone gel-filled, saline-filled, smooth surface, textured surface, round, or teardrop-shaped. BII is not currently recognized as an official medical diagnosis, and there is no diagnosis code for it. It is poorly understood and hasn't been studied much as a unique condition. Implants are a foreign object placed inside of the body that our Immune Systems actively go to war with. May 2, 2019, the FDA issued a statement acknowledging breast implant illness and the systemic symptoms caused by silicone. Saline was said to be safe... WHY are they listed? WHAT ARE THE SYMPTOMS OF B.I.I. AND POTENTIAL MIS-DIAGNOSIS THAT CAN BE MADE?  BII impacts each individual in a unique way. Symptoms can include: Joint and muscle pain, chronic fatigue, memory and concentration problems, breathing problems, sleep disturbance, rashes and skin problems, dry mouth and dry eyes, anxiety, depression, headache, hair loss, gastrointestinal problems and more. The symptoms can appear any time after implant surgery — some people develop symptoms immediately, while some develop them years later. Equipping you with the KNOWLEDGE you need to have the HEALTH you so desire! 1. WHAT IS DVT? A potentially life-threatening blood clot in a vein deep inside your body, usually your legs. 2. WHO IS AT RISK OF DEVELOPING DVT? People over 40 years old are more likely to develop DVT. Travelers on long flights or car rides, people who sit for prolonged periods of time, smokers, people on bed rest, pregnancy, obesity, trauma and injury to veins, recent surgery, high cholesterol, being on birth control pills. 3. HOW WOULD I KNOW IF I HAVE DVT? WHAT ARE THE SYMPTOMS? Leg swelling that comes on without warning, pain or soreness in the thigh, calf or leg when you stand or walk. Can affect the arm as well, but much less common, Warmth to the touch in the area that hurts, Skin that is red or blue. NOTE: If a blood clot breaks free and moves through your bloodstream, it can get stuck in a blood vessel of your lungs and be LIFE-THREATENING! Doctors call this a Pulmonary Embolism, or PE. Some people don't know they have DVT until this happens. Signs of PE include: Shortness of breath, Chest pain, that's worse when you take a deep breath, coughing up blood, increased heart and pulse rate. THESE ARE EMERGENCY SITUATIONS! DO NOT TAKE A CHANCE! CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY!! 4. WHAT CAN I DO TO PREVENT OR TREAT DVT? Because having DVT, doesn't always have symptoms, AVOID RISK FACTORS. Lose weight, leg exercises for 5 minutes per 30 mins. of prolonged sitting (get up and walk around, calf raises & pointing your toes, ankle rotations, knee raises), compression socks, stop smoking, eat alkaline foods for cholesterol, schedule surgery after-care, choose other methods of birth control, regular exercise. We will be talking about posture and why it is vital to your wellness.   2. WHY IS HAVING GOOD POSTURE SO IMPORTANT?  It determines how efficiently your Nervous System (spine, spinal cord and spinal nerves) functions, and as a result how well YOU function.  It can also determine whether you experience osteoarthritis, and how to minimize it.  It can even determine if you are able to have children.   3. An unstable molecule within our cells. 2) ARE ALL FREE RADICALS BAD? No. Free radicals are needed for a fully functioning Immune Response. 3) WHY ARE FREE RADICALS CONSIDERED A MAJOR CAUSE OF AGING? The damage caused by free radicals, trying to find balance, is called Oxidative Stress. Oxidative Stress causes breakdown of cell structure that leads to disease processes. Oxidative Stress causes mutations and deletions of the DNA genome. 4) HOW CAN WE PREVENT/COUNTERACT THE DAMAGE FREE RADICALS CAUSE AND POTENTIALLY SLOW DOWN AGING? WHAT ARE SOME THINGS YOU CAN YOU DO TO BE PROACTIVE IN GUARDING YOUR MENTAL HEALTH? Be aware of what you see, hear, feel, think, say and DO, and filter what you let in.
