The crew reviews these exceptionally hard to find wheated bourbons. The Makers Cellar age is the oldest Makers that I am aware of, as is the Select Stock Wheat from Heaven Hill. Both are sweet and tasty, but one is just a bomb of flavor. 

Tasting Notes:  Lifting out of the Terresentia fog of rapid-aging bourbon, DSP KY-10 has finally found its footing with a historical brand name, "Green River" and fully aged, large barrels sans the sonic vibrations, additions of heat, and other sundry snake oil applications. Their rye-based 4yr was one of the best sleeper hits of last year, now enter their Wheater, a 90 proof, soft as eiderdown 4yr straight from the silk factory. On the nose, pears in syrup, vanilla buttercream, and lime zest. On the palate, big soft fruit with banana runts, and intermittent spice through the candy-coated finish.

Employing a viral insertion sleep screen in larval zebrafish, we identified a novel mutant, dreammist (dmist), with altered sleep-wake dynamics. CRISPR/Cas9-mediated disruption of dmist also led to behavioural hyperactivity and reduced sleep at night. The neuronally expressed dmist gene is conserved across vertebrates and encodes a small single-pass transmembrane protein that is structurally similar to the Na+,K+-ATPase regulator, FXYD1/Phospholemman. Disruption of either fxyd1 or atp1a3a, a Na+,K+-ATPase alpha-3 subunit associated with several heritable movement disorders in humans, led to decreased night-time sleep. As intracellular Na+ concentration is disrupted in dmist mutant brains after high neuronal activity similarly to atp1a3a mutants, but is also elevated specifically at night, we propose that sleep-wake stability is modulated by Dmist-dependent changes to Na+ pump function during sleep homeostatic challenge and at specific times of the day-night cycle. In the 12th installment of "Offstage and Unbound," The Music Center's President and CEO Rachel Moore chats with Ashley Wheater, artistic director of The Joffrey Ballet. Wheater recently celebrated 10 years at the helm of The Joffrey Ballet, one of the world's better-known ballet companies, now based in Chicago. Many Angelenos may recall that the Joffrey was a resident company at The Music Center from 1983 to 1991. According to Sasha Anawalt's history, The Joffrey Ballet, Nancy Reagan prompted the residency when her husband was in the White House, and her son was in the company. In fact, Wheater was a regular Joffrey dancer on The Music Center's Dorothy Chandler stage almost 30 years ago. The Joffrey Ballet returns to The Music Center on March 9, 11 and 17, after a 5-year absence with Romeo & Juliet. Tickets on sale now.
