When we hear other women's journeys of healing it helps us make sense of our own. In my most honest and raw podcast yet I talk about a big part of my own healing journey and where I am with it now. Healing isn't something you do just once and it's done. Healing takes time to unfold. And the layers, oh my the non-linear layers. Sometimes things come up in your healing journey that you thought were over, that you thought were healed. But then they pop back up begging for further light, healing and love. It's important to acknowledge that you haven't gone backwards. And it's ok to be re-triggered sometimes. Why? Because: Healing is NOT linear or simple or straightforward or even obvious. To be honest, I felt VERY vulnerable as I recorded this episode. I had to keep reminding myself that storytelling is healing. That the personal is political. And that making (and sharing) this podcast episode is part of my own healing journey. So, if you are listening to this show it means I put on my “big girl” pants and decided that my story was worth telling. Walk the walk, right? Not just talk the talk. Let's do this! Let's normalize sharing our healing journeys. Let's refuse the isolation silos that the patriarchy puts us in. Let's support each other in our healing journeys. Thanks for bearing witness to part of my healing story. I'd love to hear yours! Listening to one another's experiences is one of the most curative things we can do. No woman is an island. Sermon, 04/18/2021: But, YOU Say...
Lauren Daigle's song, 'You Say', sat in the number 1 place on Billboards Top Christian Songs for 73 consecutive weeks. The strength of this song comes from its message. It is easy to connect to the vulnerability and hope that Lauren sings about. She reminds us that we are not what our emotions or circumstances tell us. We are without a doubt who God says we are. Our only requirement is to Believe. Here is the YouTube link to 'You Say'https://youtu.be/sIaT8Jl2zpI

Scripture For Today: Lamentations 3:44 “You have covered yourself with a cloud so no prayers can get through.” Stir Yourself Up I know from experience that you need to be continually reminded and stirred up along the lines of believing you receive when you pray. I do too. Amen. As I said before, everything in this world is trying to drag you back into believing only what you sense in the natural. We need to be stirred up and stand in the things that are of God. We need to stir ourselves up constantly. As we stir ourselves up, we will then find ourselves in a position to stir others up from time to time as well. Amen! Sometimes, we let life get in the way of our faith. Sometimes, we start to go through the motions of faith, but not really paying attention to our faith. We get up, study the Word and pray. Almost the same prayer, word for word, day by day. Until it is just repetition. We are thinking of all the stuff we have to do that – even when the repetitious words of prayer are coming off our lips. We can even get so busy with church or ministry work – we lose the grip we had on our faith. Amen. Don't shout me down when I'm preaching good. You know exactly what I'm talking about here… amen. If we are not careful, we can get to the point where we are praying and believing but not really receiving and claiming the answer that God had promised us. Even though we know better. If you believe you receive, then CLAIM that you receive it. You SAY that you receive the answer. YOU RECEIVE your answer by FAITH. Be careful allowing church work, good works, etc. into your prayer time. Be careful to not allow the devil to so overburden you with “good works” attitude, serving the church type of attitude, that you stop allowing God's Word to work inside of you. That is one of the primary things I disagree with the conventional church model in America right now. There is something going on almost every single night at church. Think about it. Sunday morning service. Sunday evening service. Tuesday night mens meeting. Wednesday night service. Thursday night womens' meeting. Friday night teen meeting. Saturday work day to clean everything up for Sunday morning. We complain that we have not family time anymore. Kids have sports and things like that after school. But the church has fallen right into the business trap as well. Anyway… my point is this. Be careful about how much time you are spending at church doing church stuff. You need family time. You need alone time. You need time away with friends. And you need time with church family. The only constant you should have each and every day is time with God. Alone time with God. And, of course, there needs to be time with your family everyday…that goes without saying. But be careful of allowing friends, church or work to encroach on your time more and more. The devil will use that as a distraction to try and get you off of the time you spend with and serving God in your daily life. Amen. Let's Pray! Long before she won a Grammy, Lauren Daigle was a teenager homebound by sickness. But during this period of isolation, God gave her hope for a future through a dream of becoming a singer. Years later, the Christian music singer and songwriter has millions of fans but she isn't interested in having followers herself. Instead, she hopes to always direct people to the Savior of the World. Although the road certainly hasn't always been easy, Lauren can now look back and see that God was working in her all along. “The closer you draw to Him, He draws near to us and, in that exchange, He really does give us a mirror and let us see who we are. What would you do if you couldn't fail? This was the question Gavin Simpson asked himself around three years ago, before putting the day job to one side and launching his music project Sourfish. The answer was to write songs, and make music that evoked emotion. “What do you Say?”, is an eclectic collection of five songs which were finalised during a busking venture to New York and New Orleans. Accompanied by two podcasts the EP picks up musically where Sourfish left us with the catchy What do you Say? and its poppy Friends vibes. Angel of My Eye takes us somewhere new, a piano based outing it is a raw, emotional song. The EP closes with the sweet, acoustic Neil Young inspired Hey, Hey. Raised in The Highlands of Scotland, Gavin initially picked up the guitar after falling in love with the anthems and melodies of Oasis and the Britpop generation. This opened the doors to their musical influences and led to a fondness of the songwriting talents of The Beatles, Paul Simon and Bob Dylan. Sourfish is Gavin's guitar driven musical act, he writes and arranges all the songs, plays the guitar and provides an occasional vocal. The debut EP Time to Play was accompanied with a debut boxing match. The title track was a finalist in The UK Songwriting competition and selected for placement on reality TV. This was followed up with the single “The Sheep are on Fire”, a tie in with leading Scottish football team Aberdeen FC. Gavin's journey to understand and discover new music includes working as radio DJ promoting breaking music. Most recently this has pivoted to Gavin's 'What do You Say?' podcast sharing the stories of other acts, with guest such as Frank Turner, Amanda Palmer and Bear's Den. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/stephen-connor2/message

Lauren Daigle is the fastest-selling new artist in the Contemporary Christian genre of the last decade. Critically acclaimed for her unique, soulful + soaring vocals, the singer-songwriter is sincere, down-to-earth and has unwavering faith. Today, the 2-time Grammy Award winner shares how her Louisiana-roots cultivated her appreciation for music, the uplifting inspiration behind her lyrics, and how rediscovering her childlike wonder helped her find greater joy in life. Lauren also shares how she previously embraced a period of stillness amidst a whirlwind of success, how it propelled her forward into her next fruitful season + what it could mean for you during the COVID-19 pandemic. SHOW NOTES: "We're on the precipice of something extraordinary. If the whole world is still and experiencing a level of silence, great things come on the other side of those experiences." “I need to learn to love change because it is inevitable.” Lauren grew up in Lafayette, Louisiana surrounded by a culture of music, passion + creativity. Music was a formative way of learning, a way of life + a way to come out of hard, dark times. As a teenager, Lauren was homebound because of the immunocompromising virus cytomegalovirus and music became a way to stay motivated and out of depression. "Being still showed me the future." "My life experiences allow a texture, tone or an emotion to come out in my voice." After high school, Lauren helped build a church on a mission trip to Brazil. While there, she saw how religion can separate others + learned to see people for who they are versus what they believe in. "There are so many things in life that make us more alike than different." Before becoming an award-winning singer, Lauren wanted to pursue a career in doing pro-bono law for human trafficking victims. "If you're in a place in life where you have dreams, things you're hoping or longing for and they don't seem to be in close proximity, surround yourself with as much influence as you can while being diligent and persistent in the work before you." Lauren shares the meaning behind some of the lyrics to "This Girl", "Look Up Child" and "You Say". December 25, 2017: After working herself into exhaustion, and many would say at the height of her career, Lauren took close to a year off of work to "be still". Lauren relates that period to pulling back a slingshot before being propelled forward + fruitful in the next season of her life. As her world tour is on pause because of the coronavirus, Lauren again plans to get lost in the stillness to let her mind, heart + spirit be refreshed + revived. Learn more about Lauren Daigle here.
