If you haven't read Erin's memoir Strung Out, it's not too late! Erin paints the human picture of addiction and how our assumptions and judgment of addicts are influenced by you guess it, the patriarchy, and not humanity. In this episode… We are all learning from our mistakes, always. As children and as adults Addiction is tied to emotional regulation. The best thing we can do to help future generations avoid addiction is self-efficacy Addicts are human beings struggling with the human experience Boundaries vs tough love. We all need boundaries with everyone, but that doesn't mean excommunication… Erin Khar is an author and advocate known for her writing on addiction, recovery, mental health, parenting, and relationships. Erin knows first-hand the challenges of addiction recovery. At just 13, she began a 15-year struggle with heroin addiction. With 19 years of recovery, she has established herself as a respected voice in the national conversation about the overdose epidemic. Erin's debut memoir, Strung Out , appeared on most anticipated lists from Apple Books, Goodreads, SELF, The Rumpus, Bitch Media, and others. This is a story she needed to tell; and the rest of the country needs to listen.” She writes the popular weekly advice column on Substack, Ask Erin, and her personal essays have appeared in SELF, Marie Claire, Salon, The Times of London Sunday Magazine, HuffPost, Esquire, Cosmopolitan, and others. Kegels are the standard answer when more often than not we need to release tension, articulate muscles, and find movement. We need to find release and feel safe relaxing into our bodies. Into ourselves. We need this physically, mentally, and emotionally. I want you to use your breath in your daily life, your daily movements, and your daily practice. We've discussed how this works on a physical level to engage and stretch these muscles. This also provides benefits on an emotional and psychological level. This is part of the reason that meditation and yoga have so many mental health and emotional benefits. Because the way you breathe reflects and informs the state of your nervous system which dictates how you are experiencing your body and the world around you. We are kicking off season TWO with a four part deep dive all about YOUR pelvic floor: Why you have one, what you can expect at each stage of womanhood, how it works, and what this untapped physical and energetic powerhouse between your legs has to offer. In this episode. Our brains react a lot like a toddler What your chakras have to do with your pelvic floor How to use your breath to reverse engineer your brain I created Pilates For Your Privates, online courses marrying pelvic health and the Pilates method because we deserve to know what's going on in and with our bodies and how to leverage our power for our own benefit. I created these courses before my son was born (and tore me in two) and it is because of this work I made a full, uncomplicated recovery from my fourth degree tear. My OBGYN, physical therapist, and Urogynecologist confirmed this fact. Srsly, do you know the answer? As a Pilates instructor for almost 20 years and a dancer for over 35, I know a thing or two about alignment. Knowing where your vagina is pointing is a one stop shop for all of your musculoskeletal alignment needs. It also happens to be the holy grail of your energetic and emotional alignment. If your pelvis is aligned with gravity, your spine and body will fall into place. When your vagina is aligned with gravity, your whole life aligns with the universe. We are kicking off season TWO with a four part deep dive all about YOUR pelvic floor: Why you have one, what you can expect at each stage of womanhood, how it works, and what this untapped physical and energetic powerhouse between your legs has to offer. Meeting, talking to, and collaborating with Corina Crysler is a practice in knowing and trusting that there is so much going on beyond what our eyes can see. I first connected with Corina in Blair Bandenhop's course Your Wellness Brand and knew immediately we were going to be friends. She's fun, light, deep, and wise. She's a real yin yang kind of person. Which you know I love! Thankfully, the feeling was mutual and we've been friends now for two years! And we've never met in person because she lives in Canada! Life is wild, friend. Absolutely Wild. And not only did we become fast friends, our friendship keeps growing and I am so excited to share that we are officially collaborating! More details to come for sure, which will be sent to my email list soon so make sure to subscribe so you don't miss out on our two day, no bs, no holds barred gathering of women reclaiming our divine wisdom. Because you know that I know that you know, that we know we are powerful. We know things. And we've been taught and conditioned to disconnect from our instincts, our guts, our innate knowing in favor of patriarchal systems that benefit and support other people. Not us. Not women. And as much as I love a flower crown, I'm not an idiot. Now isn't the time for flower crowns and light breezes. The world is changing, women are protesting for our lives, it is time for us to take action. Which can feel HUGE. Which is why Corina, myself, Blair Badenhop and world renowned author Kathleen McGowan are coming together for a two day gathering to remind you where you came from, why you're here, and wtf went wrong throughout history to rob us of our divine wisdom. Sound woo? That's because there's woo. AND take a breath, unclench your butt, because I'm also going to ground you in your physical body via the pelvic floor and the brain vagina connection. We are going to ease into the woo in a way that won't leave you clenching your butt, but instead gliding into the fire of holy rage in order to advocate for yourself, all women, and make shit happen. Because that's what we do. We make things happen. And that's what Corina does too. Bronwyn is a NYC based performer, musician and lover of trash! Pre-pandemic Bronwyn was performing on Broadway in Disney's Frozen. When Broadway shut down she began finding more furniture and home decor being thrown out in her neighborhood than she could keep. She began re-imagining, selling, and sharing her "highly curated trash" on social media. Bronwyn currently lives on the UWS with her fiancé (thank you, Alissa!) Find her on instagram or TikTok @nyctrashtotreasures to follow along! The dating advice Alissa gave Bronwyn that streamlined dating and landed her a fiance! Minimize messaging back and forth on the dating apps and time spent on a first date so you don't blow your load too early! How mortifying! Plan for cancellations by setting up multiple dates. Doctors do it and so can you! If you're compromising little things at the beginning, that's not going to change, so be upfront from the beginning! Red flags are helpful! They are guideposts to pay attention to! We have an easier time honoring our deal breakers when it comes to trash, but not to love. Deal breakers are actually boundaries that create efficiency and a roadmap, not obstacles! And you can "alter" them whenever you want! It's an augmentation, combination, and integration. BEing includes some DOing, but it isn't exclusively DOing. We need balance. I'm not into big, huge, drastic changes. Because I can't sustain that.
