Jason Jacoby started out farming and ranching but always keeps his eye out for opportunities. As you know you usually find what you're looking for so he has found many new opportunities. It started with a feed mill which transformed to a feed company and feed store that delivers feed all over the country. Since they were raising cattle that provided high quality beef they decided to open a cafe and sell their own beef there as well as selling it out of the freezer. If you grow through the small town of Melvin, TX you'll most likely see the Jacoby's operation so be sure to stop in and try out some beef and visit for a while. Fostering Connection: Lead with Bempathy® in a Diverse World In this episode of The Non-Profit Exchange, I had the pleasure of speaking with Jill Robin Payne, a seasoned mental health professional with over 40 years of experience. Jill's expertise centers around fostering connection and leading with empathy in our increasingly diverse world. We delved into her unique concept of "BEMPATHY," which she describes as "banter with empathy." Jill explained how this approach can simplify the complexities of building relationships, especially in a time when many feel disconnected and anxious. She emphasized the importance of understanding that empathy is a mindset and that effective communication requires us to listen actively and engage meaningfully with others. Jill shared insights from her three books available on Amazon, including her latest work, which encourages readers to look at situations from multiple perspectives. We discussed the significance of language in communication, particularly the impact of words like "but," which can undermine positive interactions. Throughout our conversation, Jill highlighted the transformative power of empathy and connection, not just in personal relationships but also in professional settings, including non-profits and leadership roles. She encouraged listeners to take a step back in challenging situations to gain clarity and perspective. This episode is a treasure trove of practical advice for anyone looking to enhance their communication skills and foster deeper connections in both their personal and professional lives. “This is just the beginning.” “I believe that the magic is in being human to human, says Kartik Khambhati, Co-Founder & Chief Business Development Officer of HoduSoft. Kartik thinks that the silo like definitions of B2B and B2C are perhaps too confining and possibly distort the purpose of delivering products or service. Kartik vision and values are routed in human-to-human contact and in the ways technology and organizations, together, can make humans better off. In this most interesting podcast, as a new member of the Cloud Communications Alliance, Kartik talks about stakeholders, and the stakeholders have to do with meeting the needs people have. UNICEF is a client of HoduSoft. However, Kartik describes how the stakeholders include the parents and children UNICEF helps. Helping UNICEF with its ambitious vaccination program, makes everyone up the chain from client to MSP to carrier, all better off. The “magic” occurs by making people better off, improving lives, and in this way building a, from the ground up impact. “The consumer is an individual,” adding that his approach is being proactive. Kartik discusses a heuristic view, where business success is based on first improving the well-being of people, as technology serves as a bridge to bring people together. “The biggest stakeholder in any business is a person, the human being… The biggest asset in any business is a human being.” Kartik walks us through his major product groups: HoduCC (Call Center Software), HoduPBX (IP PBX Software), and HoduBlast (Voice and SMS Broadcasting Software). Their PBX is now STIR/SHAKEN complaint. We learn about a refreshed approach across these product areas. “The magic is not in the technology. After five seasons, we're graduating from the podcast in order to take financial literacy education into a new format, with a new edition of the Don't Retire... Graduate! book releasing soon and our new financial wellness program taking off. Rounding out the show with a bang, we have Cara Macksoud of Money Habitudes here to talk about her journey from Wall Street trader to leading a company that helps people identify their financial biases and make positive changes in their habits. We'll explore the importance of being open-minded and empathetic towards clients with different attitudes and behaviors, as well as the gradual nature of habit change. Key takeaways: Financial security is important for a comfortable retirement transition. It involves having a certain level of income and assets to maintain a desired lifestyle. It's crucial to understand your money habits and attitudes, as they play a significant role in your financial decision-making. The Money Habitudes assessment helps individuals gauge where they fall along six domains and identify biases or areas for improvement. Money is relational and tied to associations such as family, culture, and community. Understanding the non-verbal messages and influences around money can help shape healthy money habits and attitudes. Giving and philanthropy can bring joy and satisfaction, and it's important to align your philanthropic efforts with your values and passions. Incorporating philanthropy into your financial plan can bring both status and personal fulfillment. “72% of CEOs say that innovation is one of their top three priorities. And close to 70% of them say they have a hard time driving innovation in their organization. I would posit, having been in there and been an intrapreneur myself, that the problem is they hire the wrong people. They hire for what I call mediocrity, they hire based on fit. And they hire based on past experience doing exactly what they want that person to do. And that's not where you get innovation. Innovation comes from connecting different dots and connecting dots differently.” Joan Michelson on Lesley Michaels show “Women We Should Know” This week's episode is a tribute to a brilliant woman who shined the spotlight on “Women We Should Know” with her podcast of that name, and by helping them publish important books. Lesley passed away unexpectedly recently, and we honor her life by airing her interview with our host, Joan Michelson on Lesley's Show. Lesley Michaels climbed the corporate ladder in the male-dominated oil and gas industry, and then channeled her frustration with how women didn't help other women at the time, into a crusade to lift up other women. Last year, she published her own book, “On the Shoulders of Mighty Women: A Modern Feminist's Guide to an Equitable, Diverse World.” Listen to Lesley interview Joan and you'll hear Lesley's magical gift for supporting women – and her own insights as well as Joan's. You'll hear: Why and how to hire creative, innovative people. Why women are natural innovators Joan's stories of driving innovation in Corporate America Lesley's insightful questions Plus, insightful career advice, such as… “You're going to change direction like four times in your career. Maybe eight, maybe 12… I've worked in different industries. So when you have a functional skill, you can be in different industries. And you will grow, you will evolve. You'll reach a point where it's like, okay, so been there, done that. I want to do something else now. That's okay. Be in tune with that and understand that. As one of my guests said on my show, don't just go for a dream that you've always had, because you might have outgrown that dream now. We had a ton of questions for Kevin Singer, President of Neighborly Faith which conducts research and organizes events “introducing Christians to neighbors of every faith.” For example, considering Kevin has Jewish relatives, were there ever discussions about Jewish people's cultural allergy to proselytization and ways that American Evangelicals - perhaps unknowingly - cross that line? How does Neighborly Faith go about "train(ing) tomorrow's leaders to be faithful and flourish in an increasingly diverse world” and “knowing and serving all of our neighbors.” Is it an Evangelical bait and switch? Yaqeen Institute founder Imam Omar Suleiman said at one of NF's events, “I was and am fine with his (SBC President JD Greear) vision of the hereafter not having space for me, so long as it doesn't become an obstacle to me having space in the here and now.” Is that part of the point of the work Neighborly Faith does? We also discussed where folks that are part of GenZ find meaning as individuals and within communities compared to previous generations?   Kevin was raised at the intersection of his mother's Evangelical faith and his father's Reform Jewish roots. He earned graduate degrees in Theology from Wheaton College and Higher Ed from NC State. Kevin has extensive teaching and leadership experience in churches, campus ministries, and colleges. He planted two churches with the North American Mission Board (2009-14) and is also head of Media Relations and PR at Springtide Research Institute. Kevin is a prolific writer with placements in Christianity Today, Religion News, Washington Post, Chicago Tribune, Psychology Today, InsideHigherEd, and more.   www.neighborlyfaith.org   https://www.neighborlyfaith.org/evangelicals-politics-report   twitter.com/coreysnathan   post.news/@coreysnathan

Lesley Michaels was born to feminism. Her foundational ethos was shaped by her audacious paternal grandmother who was a 1st wave feminist and savvy businesswoman. She came of age just as 2nd wave feminism was becoming a significant American social movement. At age 16 she struck out on her own for NYC and the heart of the cultural transformation that was the zeitgeist of the late 1960's and early 1970's. She was later one of the first women to break through the glass ceiling in the “old boy” industry of oil and gas. Shortly after leaving the corporate world, she was infected by a latent entrepreneurial spirit. Over the following years Lesley developed and sold several small businesses. In each case her staff was a multicultural representation of women. During this same period, she became a leader in the coaching industry. Lesley has mentored Fortune 500 C-Suite executives, individuals within the financially privileged sector, and celebrities. Lesley's body of unique life experiences have provided her with a first-hand understanding of the daily struggles faced by women of every race, culture, and sexual orientation. On the Shoulders of Mighty Women is a tribute to the power and grace of those who came before and the ones who will follow, the warriors and the fallen. This book is one more way Lesley chooses to amplify the voice, energy, experience-based understandings and compassion of women fighting for equality, diversity, equity and inclusion. Lesley facilitates virtual programs on topics ranging from Be a Giraffe in a Field of Zebras to Developing Women's Strategic Alliance. Lesley also hosts the weekly podcast; Women We Should Know, and will be delivering her TED talk early winter of 2023, Lift One With You, As You Rise. HERE ARE 3 TIPS TO HELP YOU ON YOUR ROAD TO SELF-EMPOWERMENT Realizing that things don't always go to plan, make good use of those occasions. Always start with what went right, followed by when did you get off track and finally, what course correction can you make now? Full mind breaks. 3 times a day, walk away from your desk/office for 10 minutes. Either close your eyes and focus on your breathing to clear your mind, or walk outside, away from anyone who would want to pull you into a work related conversation. Calling all the way back to early training, women are taught to chase perfection. If you're not making mistakes, then you're not expressing any of your innate genius or creativity. Giving ourselves permission to make mistakes helps us still the critical mind. Travis, Jay Moon & Bud Simon keep the conversation going with tips on how to share the good news of Jesus in a diverse world. Travis, Jay, & Bud discuss their book, Intercultural Evangelism, and talk through some of the mindset shifts that need to occur for us to share Jesus effectively with those who come from different cultural backgrounds. They discuss four cultural operating systems that shape how people think: innocence/guilt, honor/shame, fear/power, and throw a new one into the mix: indifference/belonging w/purpose-specifically identifying the challenges at work in our post-everything, identity-obsessed, desire-to-belong-world. Drawing upon their experiences as missionaries, Jay Moon and Bud Simon act as guides along the path of faith, showing us how to share Jesus in a pluralistic world that is increasingly unfamiliar with the Christian faith.
