Anytime I would tell myself the thing I wanted to emulate or be, I could audible hear the negative self talk refute everything I said. It was as if I had started an argument in my mind every time I tried on a new affirmation. I stumbled upon a new way to inspire growth for myself using affirmation type questions, so instead of arguing with myself I started to pile on the proof to answer the questions. The body doesn't discriminate between different types of stressors. Rather, when the body perceives any stressor (traffic, financial, or food) the body responds in exactly the same way.
