Description: Are you truly expressing yourself, or are you holding back? In this transformative conversation, we explore the power of self-expression, how it impacts our mental health, personal growth, and emotional healing, and why it's as essential as air, food, and water. Many of us suppress our emotions, fearing judgment, rejection, or simply because we've never been given the space to speak our truth. But what if healing starts with acknowledging our past, understanding our triggers, and shifting our perspective?
The title of this episode is a mouthful, but it basically covers what we talk about. I love what Rick Kohut is doing and how he integrates his basic philosophy of life in all areas of his life.I have been wanting to interview Rick Kohut ever since I met him, and with the upcoming conference he is organizing, called the Basic Human Needs Conference, I finally got ultra motivated to get it done sooner than later as the conference is happening on Friday, March 28th in Didsbury AB.This interview is close to my heart and it encompasses so many of the values I live by.... owning our health, eating real food and supporting those that bring it to us, being self-responsible, being stewards of the land to support the health and longevity of current and future generations, education and more. You will find Rick to be very peaceful and solid in how he presents himself, because at the core of what he does he is always applying the law that nature doesn't make mistakes. When one embodies this concept, then confidence is yours and in Rick - farmer, health food store owner, Weston A. The Gallup Q12, as it's commonly called, is a set of 12 questions designed to measure employee engagement. Not satisfaction. Engagement. Why is that distinction important? Because satisfaction is surface-level—think free snacks in the breakroom—but engagement digs deeper. It's about your team's emotional connection to their work and their belief in the purpose of what they're doing. These questions came from years of research by Gallup, particularly detailed in their book "First, Break All the Rules" by Marcus Buckingham and Curt Coffman, which examines what makes employees thrive. And guess what? Engaged employees don't just work harder—they work smarter, stay longer and bring their A-game to your dealership every day. Part 2, Meeting "Basic Human Needs" - Questions 3 to 7: 3. At work, I have the opportunity to do what I do best every day. 4. In the last seven days, I have received recognition or praise for doing good work. 5. My supervisor, or someone at work, seems to care about me as a person. 6. There is someone at work who encourages my development. 7. At work, my opinions seem to count. Interested in coaching or training on these topics for you or your team? We'd love to hear from you! Email Mike and Mark.
In this episode, we kick things off with a thought-provoking quote from Dan Meyer: "Students know what it feels like to have their education done to them rather than with them and they vastly prefer the latter." Let's dive into what this means and how it ties into the core human needs of autonomy, competence, and relatedness in the classroom. We'll ask the big question: "Do our educational values align with these basic human needs?" By fostering autonomy, building competence, and nurturing relationships, we can transform learning into a more engaging and effective experience for students.

Podcast 2 of 2 AI is power hungry, or at least it can be, according to Brian Sathianathan, Co-Founder of Iterate.ai. Generative AI can be intense, and it can use power, generously. Meanwhile AI is being touted as aa tool to help with global warming, with both direct applications for industry, and in other cases being used to match human needs to improve the efficiency of water (and the energy involved in delivering water, and food). Brian sees a path to an AI environment where AI can tackle both challenges. Sathianathan describes a path to lower AI energy use and describes ways for AI to be applied to match both human and environmental needs. He sees a future where AI runs almost in the background, quietly providing the benefits of automation and, with the right methods, nit getting in the way of its own gains. Can this balance between innovation and responsible control be found? And will new AI technology expedite our global sustainability efforts? "The deliberations at the recent Paris Peace Forum regarding AI represent a critical juncture in our collective approach to sustainable development. As experts and policymakers harness AI's transformative capabilities, it is imperative that its integration is strategically aligned with our global objectives for climate sustainability. This forum and the conversations regarding AI in Paris need to serve as a catalyst for a deeper understanding of AI's potential as a tool for ecological stewardship. It is essential to maintain balance where technological progress does not come at the expense of our planet's health. Our focus must be on crafting AI solutions that are not only innovative but also ethically and environmentally responsible, reflecting a commitment to a sustainable and equitable future,” stated Brian Sathianathan, in a previously published statement. With proper regulation and global collaboration, AI has the potential to create lasting impact on the climate crisis, and Iterate.ai is ready to be part of these efforts. Visit www.iterate.ai
How can apartment owners and managers lift up their residents while still maintaining profitability? In this episode, Jon Weiskopf and Angel Williams have an insightful discussion about creating mutually beneficial environments for apartment owners, managers, and residents. They explore creative ways to care for residents while still running a successful business. (00:00 - 03:00) Basic Human Needs in Housing Many basic repairs are inexpensive but make a big quality of life difference for residents. A little care and understanding goes a long way. There is often reciprocity between how owners treat residents and how residents treat properties. Profitability and resident well-being are not at odds. In fact, caring for residents first often leads to better financial outcomes. Chapter 2: Perceptions Around Low-Income Housing (03:00 - 12:00) There are often unfair stereotypes and misconceptions around low-income housing residents. Section 8 and assisted housing residents are often model tenants when given a chance. Open-mindedness and compassion for all people, regardless of income level, is key. (12:00 - 15:00) Creativity and Innovation in Multifamily Small resident perks like solar power can improve quality of life. Expenses like utilities can become income streams with some clever thinking. There are always innovations and ideas to explore in apartment ownership. Quote: "We want to lift property, we want to lift residents up, so that they are policing themselves. Because once they do that the community starts to expect something better of their community." - Jon Weiskopf Connect with Jon: LinkedIn Website: https://www.blueeyedcapital.com/ Visit sponsorcloud.io/contact today and unlock $2,000 of free services exclusively for REI Rocks community members! India Policy Watch: The Indispensability of Economic GrowthInsights on burning policy issues in India— Pranay KotasthaneShruti Rajagopalan and Lant Pritchett's of India conversation is full of insights for all public policy students. From that conversation, there was one particular claim that I want to discuss this week: economic growth is not just necessary, but also a sufficient condition for reasonably high levels of human wellbeing.Over the last few years, many people have grown sceptical about the very idea of economic growth. There is a whole cottage industry of experts and non-experts ready to diss economic growth in pursuit of other ‘worthier’ goals such as sustainability or inequality. This thinking is morally problematic given that economic growth is the only mechanism to reduce large-scale poverty in India. Anecdotally, it is tougher to convince Indians born after 1991 in economically well-off families—and connected to the global conversation on development—about the centrality of economic growth.Sometimes, the pushback against growth is not along the lines of "but, this is not the right way to achieve economic growth". Such pushback would've been desirable. Instead, some people firmly believe that India doesn't need economic growth anymore; it's had that enough. They argue that governments should now focus on redistribution to reduce inequality and directly tackle social progress indicators, moving beyond income progress indicators.Even though we keep highlighting how every percentage of growth brings roughly two million Indians out of poverty, this policy narrative seems to have become stale. Instead, the counter-argument often is: if Bhutan is focusing on ‘providing’ happiness, why shouldn't we?The confusion about the importance of economic growth is not just a non-academic one. Economists themselves have pushed this line that programmatic changes to specific schemes can bring significant changes to human wellbeing. Even those who advocate growth feel it necessary to qualify it as "inclusive" or "sustainable".It is in this context that the paper National development delivers: And how! And how? by Lant Pritchett is an absolute must-read. Here's the abstract:National development is empirically necessary and sufficient for high levels of human wellbeing. Measures of three elements of national development: productive economy, capable administration, and responsive state, explain (essentially) all of the cross-national variation in the Social Progress Index (SPI), an omnibus indicator built from 58 non-economic indicators of human wellbeing. How national development delivers on human wellbeing varies, in three ways. One, economic growth is much more important for achieving wellbeing at low versus high levels of income. Two, economic growth matters more for “basic needs” than for other dimensions of wellbeing (like social inclusiveness or environmental quality). Three, state capability matters more for wellbeing outcomes dependent on public production. These findings highlight the key role of national development—and particularly economic growth—as instrumental to increased human wellbeing, which is increasingly challenged in favor of “small” programmatic and project design which is, at best, of third order of importance.Let's discuss these important meta-claims, which have a bearing on any field of public policy.Claim #1: Redistribution isn't the answer; economic growth is.Most of the world's inequality is between countries, not within countries. So inequality reduction is overwhelmingly a national task. And you cannot do redistribution if your income levels are low as the size of the economic pie is too small to create a difference meaningfully. Rich country governments spend up to 40% of GDP precisely because it is possible to collect higher revenues from a more affluent population, even at low tax rates.Claim #2: Wellbeing is the outcome; national development is the outputThe three indicators of National development —GDP per capita, state capability, and democracy- explain all the Social Progress Index (SPI) variations, a non-economic index comprising 58 indicators. There are no countries with high levels of national development and low levels of social progress. Similarly, no countries have managed high levels of social progress at low levels of national development. In other words, wellbeing is the outcome, and national development is the output. Here’s the striking chart in the paper which explains this relationship.Claim #3: Economic growth is much more important at low levels of incomeThere can be no one global pathway to social progress. Priorities of richer countries will be different from the priorities of the developing countries. The 58 indicators of SPI can be clubbed into three main categories —Basic Human Needs (e.g. water and sanitation, safety, nourishment), Foundations of Wellbeing (environmental quality), and Opportunity (personal freedom and choice). The paper empirically shows that economic growth matters immensely for fulfilling basic human needs. As long as we agree that basic human needs such as water and sanitation, safety, and nutrition are essential to social progress, economic growth is indispensable.I think this paper deserves more attention, especially in the Indian context. We tried to discuss this idea on Puliyabaazi as well. Global Policy Watch: Information Age Politics vs Full Spectrum WarfareIndian perspectives on global events— Pranay KotasthaneThe economic and technology sanctions have understandably generated much global debate ever since the Russia-Ukraine war began. These sanctions are intended to expressly hurt Russia’s financial and trade systems, and cut its access to cutting-edge technology. We have earlier discussed how to think about the direct sanctions imposed by the US and EU from an Indian perspective. While these measures were expressly aimed at Russian political and economic elites, the effects have spilled over into the ordinary lives of ordinary Russians. That’s because several tech companies have also entered the fray. Google Pay and Apple Pay suspended billing, Amazon suspended shipping of all retail products, and Microsoft suspended all sales. As of March 26th, more than 450 companies had joined the bandwagon. Some have shut down their Russia operations completely, some have suspended operations temporarily, some others are scaling back operations, while others have put new investments on hold. These seemingly synchronised actions by Western governments and companies have set the alarm bells ringing in India. For those who believe that the ultimate goal of economic policy is to reduce import dependence, these measures act as tailwinds. From their perspective, these instances prove that Western companies and governments are all joined at the hip. The separation between the state and markets is a lie. To them, all these withdrawals are coordinated to achieve a strategic objective—they are a part of a planned package to achieve control over Russia in all dimensions of the battlespace. In other words, they are a display of the West’s full spectrum dominance. Framed in these prominently military terms, the logic of self-sufficiency becomes a logical response. All foreign companies start appearing like attack ‘weapons’ in the hands of an adversary, while national champions—however inefficient—in all sectors of the economy become a matter of self-defence. Imports become evil, exports go down in priority, and joint development between private actors start getting scrutinised by government officials. As you can gather from my tone, this full-spectrum warfare is an inaccurate and counter-productive way to frame the ongoing events. Instead of being weapons in the hands of the West, I argue that these actions can be framed better as now ubiquitous instruments of Information Age politics. Seen from this perspective, the spate of withdrawals by Western companies is not a part of a well-laid-out, coordinated plan by Western governments. Rather, it is a result of uncoordinated actions by companies which have willy-nilly become political actors in the Information Age. In that sense, these actions are not very different from some Indians breaking China-made TVs during the Ladakh standoff, or a NBA team manager showing support for pro-democracy protests in Hong Kong. Even in the current case, there are several explanations apart from the ‘weaponised interdependence argument’ for why companies have withdrawn from Russia. One, it’ll just become too difficult to do business in Russia given the sharply falling rouble, and major financial uncertanties. Two, some companies have been booted out by Russian government on the grounds of ‘false propaganda’. Finally, there’s also a significant pressure from employees and customers, who are witnessing this war daily on their twitter feeds, and want to play their part in whatever way possible. This explains why even some open source software libraries have been modified to either cutoff Russian customers or delete files on Russian computers. Seeing these actions not as full spectrum warfare but as a specific instance of a generalised phenomenon of Information Age politics is vital for India’s interests. The latter framing acknowledges that multi-national companies are geopolitical actors, but also leaves room for negotiations and bargaining, like all politics does. This lens permits taking the long view that technology collaboration with the West is necerssary for Indian companies to build their own complementary strengths. In an interdependent tech world that is here to stay much beyond the current war, this approach has a higher chance of success rather than national champions motivated by the outdated logic of reducing import dependence. Spirituality and the Basic Human Needs by Rev Dr. Rain Lim. According to Maslow, we have five categories of needs: physiological, safety, love, esteem, and self-actualization. In this theory, higher needs in the hierarchy begin to emerge when people feel they have sufficiently satisfied the previous need. The Human Needs are explained in simple and easy to understand examples by Rain. #humanneeds #basichumanneeds #rainheartwisdom Join our community > https://www.facebook.com/groups/rainheartwisdom For more info about Rain, pls visit > https://RainHeartWisdom.com
Hello, everyone, Joy, and Jason is back. It has been a minute. But we are here to talk about the bullet train. Yes, I know it's a bit strange, but a bullet train as in, you know, where are you currently in your life? And are you going to stop at garbage'ville or is it going to be like a smooth sell to you? Hi there. My name is Nicholson. I'm an entrepreneur, digital marketer, coach, and mentor. I've been diving in deep for the last year to discover what it takes to become a successful entrepreneur, not just the fluff that you see on the outside when you see people that are already successful, but what it takes behind the scenes to become successful. What I have discovered was mind-blowing, millionaires think differently. They have unique habits, focus, discipline, and so much more. Follow along in this podcast, I'll be sharing my journey, the journey of other entrepreneurs, what makes them successful, but most importantly, how it can help you to become successful.01:07Let's do this. Oh boy coming to you live from garbage'ville. Never let's do this smooth sailing ball alright.01:18Let's dive into this. So I and Jason was debating about what are we actually talking about today because we have a lot of topics but sometimes we really want to make sure that it's where people are currently in their lives we try to make sure that it's at least in line with what people are experiencing as much as possible. And there's a lot of stress and uncertainty going on today. And you know, in the world that we are in today, and it doesn't help you know, and like Jason was saying like you it's uncovering your weak and your strong points right. And yeah, you want to explain a little bit, please.01:53Well, first off, it has been a minute so I Joy how are you doing? Hi everybody out there, hoping everybody's doing well. It has been crazy around here lately. For those of you that haven't caught any previous episodes, I'm coming to you from the States. And it is madness over here. We seem to be the best in the world at being the shittiest right now. And so that's the train that I'm kind of riding. Nice. The garbage will train.02:24The garbage will train. I'm telling you, we're full speed ahead over here. Yeah, so, you know, like Joy said, we come up with these topics to talk about. And sometimes you just have to talk about, you know, what you feel is right, and what's going on right now, and just start there. And so, as Joy mentioned, you know, it's a stressful time out there, you know, particularly with the Coronavirus, so whether you're in a country that is in the thick of it, or it's coming back, or you're in a country like Joy that they've been doing really well and it's kind of subsiding. It doesn't take long for you to turn on the TV or pick up a newspaper and see what's going on around the world and it's a scary time right now. And the thing is, all of us, we are interconnected with one another and with the universe, and that's pretty deep, but it is super important. Okay, why? Yeah, stress and uncertainty really have a magnificent way of uncovering our weak points and strong points of where we are currently in our lives. So like right now is an extremely stressful time. Take a look at what's going on that's really going on really well in your life right now, and what's not going so well, and you can guarantee that this is where you would have been in a normal situation, five to 10 years from now. It's just this scary time and uncertainty is really put you on a bullet train and fast-forwarded your life and giving you a glimpse of where you would have been five to 10 years from now, which gives you an opportunity to make things happen now, kinda like, hey, welcome to the future, here's what your life would have looked like, what are we going to do now to put you on the better train?04:16So do you think because people have been in lockdown, and I've been forced to deal because that's really what it is forced to deal with the situations at the end forced to like, think about things that I would not have thought about in 10 years, or five years, whatever? Do you think that is the thing that is putting people on this train? Because I mean, I've heard of so many people that are getting divorced, and so many people that you know, it's just like, it's family things that have just gone down the tubes and things where they thought it's like, oh, I'm actually in a good marriage, but meanwhile, they're getting divorced. Or my kids are actually doing pretty well. My kids are happy but then the kids actually turn out to not be happy, you know, little things like that. Do you think it's because we are just brushing it to a side and not dealing with it?04:59Yeah, of course, I mean, wisdom how do you know a leader as a great leader? Not when they're leading in times of amazingness? No, you're not looking to someone for help. Do you know what I mean? Yeah. Great leaders make certainty out of uncertain times, right? These are uncertain times, place yourself in this uncertain time. What are you doing well, who is looking up to you? What are they looking up to you for? Who's looking at you going dude, you're on a bullet train to garbage will. Do you know what I mean? Take a look right now, at your strengths and weaknesses. They're more prevalent today, right now than they have ever been. Yeah. And which gives us an opportunity to say hey, what do I have to work on and be ready for the next wave of whatever comes along in our life? Do you know what I mean? Now's the time.05:59Is there like a framework to look into their strengths and weaknesses as a person? Like is there like something that you can just you know, like work or like a framework or a point system or something? You don't need no. Just asking. No, no, I get it. No, no, no, you know, where you suck. But sometimes people know where they suck, but they are too proud to admit where they suck.06:29If you know that, Jesus then goes to a car on the shit train, where there's nobody and start drawing it out. Work it out for yourself, pick up your? Goggles. We haven't had them in a while.06:52Yes, and I've got one too. Jason is very proud of me. We actually did an episode on journaling, like three-four episodes ago, and I also have a general so see I've also been doing it so07:03It works. I can say that much it does work, it works. It's an opportunity for you to not have to go to anybody else on the train. Like I don't have to come to sit in Joy's seat and poke around the shoulder and go, hey, am I sucking, do I suck? And Joy's not going to tell me because she's thinking, well, I know he sucks but I suck too. It's an opportunity for you to go sit by yourself open up your journal and write down here's where I know I suck. And it needs some questions to ask yourself in your journal to find out what train you're on because you're not quite sure we can give you those for sure. But this is a great place to start. This is also a great time that you might have some time on your hands more than you normally would. To start putting some plans in place. Start taking some action. We have done episodes on this before. This is nothing new. The world might be a little bit scarier than it was a few weeks ago. Which is all the more reason to watch these videos that we do listen to what we're saying, get off the shit train?08:20Yeah, you can get on touch make sure that you don't miss any of these episodes because they're good. It's a good value. And we've had quite a few comments of people just saying like this episode really changed my life. Thank you. So just guys, it's like it is value Jason no one is talking about.08:36Okay. Sorry, if you're not sure what if you're really really truly not sure what train you're on? You give me a call I will get your ticket. I'll tell you exactly where your next stop is. And be crystal clear and honest so will Joy. We met each other on the shit train. We were passengers together. That is actually very true. We have the same ticket, this train headed to you here about where we're going it sucks let's get off here. Should I do a better train?09:19What exactly we did and it's a decision that you have to make and this is the thing it's not going to be one of those things it's like yeah, okay I'm on this journey actually sticks it's not really working for me and you know, I've got some issues and so many this and so many that I just don't know if I can deal with this. That is all a form of procrastination. And you just honestly scared to change you are fearing the step the stepping stone and I mean, I've been there, you know, I'm not judging in any way shape or form because I was that person. And I can say firsthand, and I'm sure Jason can do the same like that stepping stone is scary, but it is worth it. And once you get off, you know once that train is getting into garbage will you decide no, no, no, no, no, let's get off before it hits, you know, garbage will, it really makes a massive difference in your life change so much. I mean, like, and Jason, I had so many issues with journaling. I didn't want to journal. Because I know myself and I even said to him before we started recording this. It hasn't been that fun journaling, because it hasn't, you know, I had to deal with unresolved issues of things that 10 years ago, 15 years ago, which I've been dealing with in my journal, so I'm not telling the world about my issues. I'm not dealing, I'm not sharing it with any other person. I'm just sharing it with my journal. And I have uncovered things about myself that I didn't even realize was a problem. And therefore you grow because you actually become better. You know, so.10:45And again, all valid points but understand no matter what train you decide to get on, yeah, the train will have curves and turns and it will go up and it will go down. But the destination, that's up to you. Yeah, that's up to you anticipate turns and curves and ups and downs and changes in elevation. Yeah. But where you're going to stop that? What ticket do you buy? That's up to you. And now more than ever, you know what train you're on. And again, as I said, if you don't call us, we'll read your ticket for you. We'll let you know where you're headed.11:29Because, yeah, yeah, direct inbox that's for sure. Okay, so so journaling is one thing that can help us to just uncover our weak points and our strong points, right, because, I mean, firstly, that really helped me a lot and okay, so we're stressing with stress and uncertainty we've mentioned this at the beginning of this episode. So Jase what is that thing that can help you except for the journaling part what can help you with the uncertainty, the uncertainty because obviously it journaling is a big part of the stress thing that can help you to sort that out. But that's not enough. What else can we help you know, that give people to help them with that stress and uncertainty in the current times?12:06I mean, you there are besides like, okay, well I can go out and do my breathing exercises or, or what have you and these little things to keep the moment or clear your head at the moment. It's about being centered with yourself. So you can be honest with yourself at all times. Yeah. And we've gone over a lot of these things before. And it's not only journaling is paying attention to how we talk to ourselves. It's getting ourselves into a state of mind on a daily basis. We're always doing a self-audit, and always looking at our ticket and seeing where we're heading. And all kinds of things we can do. There in every episode that joy and I talked about and these episodes, we come up with an idea of what we want to talk about but largely it comes from who we are inside and our personal experiences. We don't read a story about someone and go hey, look at this guy. Look at this guy. Let's talk about him. You know this stuff comes from us. Yeah. And so it's getting yourself centered with you your relationship with you. If it's not centered by default your relationship with anybody else or anything else on this planet cannot be centered. That needs to be taken care of first.13:31Okay, so let's this I don't want to talk about like divorce as being the thing but it's just like so common because seriously, there's been so many people that have rocky relationships. Now with you guys still being on lockdown luckily, we're in New Zealand we are out of it now. But it really takes a toll on relationships. And I'm not just saying divorce. I'm talking like parents with their children. I mean, even for me, I had some issues with my kids. And it's not because there were really issues it's just behavioral issues because things come out. You know, you're getting frustrating being in each other's space the whole time and being in lockdown and blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. But like having a relationship and having issues with either your spouse or your children, or one of those, do you have any advice for people? How did I deal with that uncertainty because that is quiet that is hard for a lot of people, right? Because it's not something that you're used to doing.14:19When it comes to your personal relationships with your children or your spouse, your significant other, whatever it is, what a great time to start really understanding what's going on. It's much more than just been around this person for so long, it's just getting annoying. It's not that there are there's something going on that is making you feel that way and you are now succumbing to those feelings of he sucks I see it now. It's not that and this goes back to where I said this time of uncertainty, especially if you're getting stuck with one person or another, you're getting a glimpse of to where you were headed. Five to 10 years from now in your relationship more, more often than not. Either you're, you know, your basic human needs that we all have there's five or six of them, maybe you're starting to realize that, where you place your top two are not the same as your partners. I mean they're not there, this was going to fall apart anyway. But now we have an opportunity to see where we were headed relationship garbage'ville and we have an opportunity to check now say, how can we figure this out rather than just say, I knew you were always shit.15:52I knew it. And God sent us this disease to show me that you're garbage. Now's the time we can fix things with our children, with our spouses with our loved ones, people that we are now being forced to spend more time with than we normally would have it's a great opportunity to try to say, let's see if we can get out on a different train together.16:18So what if you're in a family situation? And I'm just thinking, like the majority of people out there that could have potentially this problem? How do you deal with that? Like, do you have family gatherings? Do you just hit on, you know, like, because you can't just say like, okay, honey, we're having issues let go out for dinner and talk about it with the kids being around because you can't go out for dinner right. I am laughing about it, but I'm just thinking of the situation. So how do you actually how do you do that then?16:48Joanna and I fought for some time when we met each other we've now decided, no, I can't. That's not how we can go. Do you know what I mean? I would first start, you know if it's a whole family dynamic that seems to be crumbling. Again, I would really go back to the basic human needs that we all need as people and we find a way to make it happen and I would go through each one of those, each of those. Can you name them? Basic human needs go through those, talk about it with somebody who knows what they're talking about. And look at how you are satisfying those basic human needs. And that gives you amazing insight into why you might be clashing. And then once you understand how to do that you do it for the kids. Yeah. And now once we all understand our basic human needs and how we're satisfying those needs, now we can look at our interrelationships with each other. I'm not getting along with my son in this area. I understand why because he really values he values being, you know when kids are growing up, they want to be what is it different from everybody I want to stand out, and I want to grow up and I want to be an adult, you know what I mean? This is how he is prioritizing some of his needs, where mine is, I'd like to just be quiet. And you know what I mean and just let things be and not rock the boat. And I like certainty. That's very different from a child that is growing up and when you can understand that dynamic and that push, now you can understand how to work with your work with each other a little bit and better understand each other. And now it can happen with everybody in the family.18:47I'm trying to say this in Afrikaans, the five basic human needs. I know we mentioned them before but can we just mention them in this episode? Yeah. Let's, I'm gonna have to write them down because I don't always keep the names right in my head. Number one would be a certainty. Yeah. And uncertainty. Yes.19:17We have the need to feel loved opposite of that will love being different, opposite of that we have the need to feel well, love would not be different. Loved, the opposite of love would be the need to be different. This is what separates me from everybody else. Your fifth human need would be giving back to others.19:57And finally, would be growth, how am I growing? We all feel the need to grow every single day in some sort of way. Right? If we're not doing that we're dying. Oh, yeah, we are actually designed to grow.20:15So you know, again, certainty, the need to have a regimented something, I need to know that these things are going to happen every single day. And I mean, opposite of that uncertainty. I need some sort of action, some sort of adventure in my life, something that's different from the norm. Right. Yeah. To be loved, I need to know that I'm accepted as a whole, by the group, by the family or by the people at work or whatever it is. Yeah. The difference I need to know that I'm different from everybody else. Yeah. I need to know that people love me for a different reason then they love everybody else. And I just needed to be a part of it. Yeah, exactly.21:04The opposite of each other. Yeah. Right. I need you to need to be able to give back. A person cannot be healthy and grow,if they're not feeling that as they go along in life, they can help people inherently love to help. They want to help. It's part of our DNA. It's how we survived as a species. We're not doing that in some sort of away, you may not know it, you're dying inside, and then growing as a person. These are basic human needs. And if your top two are not the same as somebody else's top two, it's not a bad thing. But there is going to be some of this going on. Yeah. A lot of times when there's this going on. Now we've given up on each other because we don't understand our basic human needs and we go to a therapist and if they don't understand and they're just reading it to you out of the book. And they're giving you the textbook answer, you're gonna walk out of there and you'll be even more confused. And that's why they say therapy is sometimes a place where relationships go to die. I love you all therapists. I do, but it doesn't work for each and every person. It's the truth. No, it doesn't. It doesn't. That's basically the gist of it. But yeah, so that's important. It is it's very important. That's good stuff.22:33I think that this is an episode because we do try to keep them under half an hour, which I'm not sure how long this man has been going. But it is good to you know, to understand and know that if you're not on the right train, to get on the right train, or if you're on this train, don't get off on garbage'ville, but get off at what we call it Pleasantville or what was it? I forgot. Kickass Ville. I don't even think we named it.22:57Whatever you want to call it, but get off at the right stop. That actually is going to help you as a person. And if you feel like you're on the path with somebody in your life, your significant other, then they're not on the same level as you I'm all about not giving up and, you know, fight for, because there's something that made you guys become a couple right and I'm gonna do you know, a couples therapist or any of those things, but I'm just, it's just so sad to see couples that are over things that like Jason said, would have happened in 10 years time, you know, obviously, this time of dispute speed things up. But I guess the biggest thing there and this is me, again, I'm not a therapist but by just looking from the outside in. Just talk to people, you know, talk to the people around you, and not just now you're forced to talk to people. If it was worth falling in love it's worth taking a look at each other's ticket. That's the thing. Yeah. Yeah, you said it perfectly. So yeah. All right. That's it. Anything else you want to add to this episode Jase?24:00No, you know what, it's great to see everybody again. Well, I can't see you. I hope we get to that point soon where we can kind of do live, but great to catch up with you guys again and look forward to the next one. Thank you, Joy. Thank you, Jase. And yeah, we will be back again next week with another awesome episode. Be safe everybody. Bye

[Intro: 12:39 | Book Pre-sale: http://bit.ly/ORBITgr] In this episode, I speak with author, journalist, and political researcher Shane Burley. We discuss mutual aid in the time of COVID-19, the "Autumn of the Alt Right," and the underlying structure of conspiracy theories in the age of information. We begin this discussion with Shane describing what mutual aid and solidarity looks like in our time of the coronavirus pandemic, with millions of workers in the United State without jobs as a result of widespread economic disruption and lack of a comprehensive government aid. As Shane describes in his recent article published at Waging Nonviolence: “In almost every city around the United States mutual aid networks have started to form — ranging from projects for resource distribution to simple options like fundraising, compiling lists of resources and contacts, and creating “chat threads” so that people in the same area can stay in contact with one another. The speed with which these groups have arrived, and the depth of care that many of them offer, have started to show what options communities have when the large institutions around them fail, or are unwilling to deal with the disaster.” (https://bit.ly/3a5GN89) From there, we move into what he explored in an earlier article he published at Commune Magazine, titled ‘Autumn of the Alt Right.’ I ask him what the state of the Alt Right is currently, in particular what the ultimate failures and successes the far right movement has made in their attempt to shift the political discourse in the U.S. further to the Right. Finally, we end this interview with an examination of the underlying structure of conspiracy theories in the age of information, which is especially relevant in light of the spread of baseless suppositions surrounding the origin of the COVID-19 pandemic, that the pandemic is a “hoax,” and so on. Shane Burley is a writer and filmmaker who regularly reports on far-right movements in the US, as well as anti-fascist resistance, workers rights, and class struggle. He is the author of ‘Fascism Today: What It Is and How to End It’ from AK Press, and his work has appeared in numerous publications, such as Jacobin, Truthout, and Commune Magazine. This episode dives quite deeply into a number of topics underpinning why ‘we' (the royal we guys) grow to live the way we've been shown. Food Insecurity and poverty playing their role in childhood obesity (critical levels in 2019). I also pull some deep burrowed research from my uni years around understanding our basic needs and how ‘conditioning' plays a role in how we react to food! Go in with an open mind and leave with motivation to make a change for your child's future. Adele www.instagram.com/adele.johnston

Everything that you do is consciously or unconsciously driven by one of these 6 human needs. These needs motivate and inspire us to take action in positive ways. However, when some of these needs are not met consistently, your mind will unconsciously find ways to satisfy these needs. How your mind does this is not always good for you and can lead to addictions.Tony Robbins identified these 6 human needs and how they are behind everything that we do. If you have a behavior that you can’t seem to stop, then it is likely that one of these human needs is behind it.Let’s get into these 6 human needs right now, so that you understand why you do what you do.

The 6 basic human needs you need to have in your gym.
As humans, we have many physical, mental and emotional needs. When most or all of these are fulfilled, we feel happy and our health and wellbeing is massively improved as well. When several of these universal human needs are not met, then your brain will try to achieve these in other ways. Common feelings when core needs are not met include depression, frustration or addictive behaviors. The 10 Universal Human Needs are part of the Human Givens Psychotherapy model. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Human_givens Some of the information for this video also came from Uncommon Knowledge https://www.hypnosisdownloads.com/blog/the-primal-human-needs
While working a deal I needed a salesperson to go get some more paperwork from his customer & after outlining what I need he just stared at me and asked if I was going to go do it? The old me-when I was a new mgr would've blown up thinking that the sp was being soft...but that wasn't the case...in reading “The Coaching Habit” by Michael Bungay Stainer he wrote of the 9 Basic Human Needs: Affection, Creation, Recreation, Freedom, Identity, Understanding, Participation, Protection, & Subsistence (my success depends on your help). ...these are the 9 we all need as humans (hopefully you're a human). So Stainer writes when someone wants (asks) something from you - don't jump in nor go off...they're asking you bc they have a want behind their need(s). Too often as leaders we're too quick to assume, advise, or blow up, but if you tap into their want, you can align with “what” (they need) and coach more effectively.

Are You Going in the Right Direction – Sometimes as leaders we tend to feel alone and that no one understands the stress that we have. I would like to address this by wrapping up the past six episodes in our series on the Six Basic Human Needs. By understanding how to apply each of the Six Basic Human Needs we will learn to see how looking out for the needs of others, your own needs as a leader will be met. We will see how when motivating others to succeed, we will succeed as well. Basic Need Number One was discussed in Episode 61 “A False Sense of Security”. We talked about Certainty and Comfort. Leaders guide those under them to get training that may benefit their career this will give their workers more self-confidence instead of the feeling of helplessness. You as a leader may be the only positive voice speaking into their lives. Basic Need Number Two was discussed in Episode 62 “Changing the Mundane”. We talked about Variety. Leaders provide a break from the mundane by becoming more creative in motivating those under them to get the job completed. Leaders find ways to make a tough job in the field more fun. Basic Need Number Three was discussed in Episode 63 “The Need to Feel Important”. We spoke about Significance. Leaders need to treat each person we work with as an individual who is important. Leaders can cause someone to make a drastic change for the worst if you tear them down, especially in front of their peers. Leaders need to provide discipline and correction in private. Basic Need Number Four was discussed in Episode 64 “The Love Connection”. We spoke about being Loved or Cared About. Leaders probably over look this basic need the most with those that they have influence. We are not saying you have to give them a hug or get all mushy. But when a leader applies all of the attributes talked about in this series to those under them, then they will have a sense that you really care for them. A leader needs to realize that their success depends on the success of those under them. Basic Need Number Five was discussed in Episode 65 “Continuing to Grow”. We spoke about everyone wanting the opportunity to Grow. Leaders can provide the open door that can help those you influence to really shine. As a leader you are in a position to see strengths that maybe even that person may not know they have. If you see something in a person, say something. In turn, you will continue to grow in your strengths as you grow in your understanding that we all have special talents. Basic Need Number Six was discussed in Episode 66 “What is Your Contribution? We spoke about people wanting to be able to make a difference. You as a leader have the ability to guide someone to help someone else in need. As a leader instead of you always being the one to jump in and save the day, why not guide one of the people under you that may be lacking in self confidence, the chance to demonstrate their skills. This will boost their confidence and you will have also met at least 3 of the 6 Basic Human Needs for that person. As a leader we can see the overall picture and provide ways to fit others into areas to help them succeed. Knowing your team members, their strengths and weaknesses, and understanding these Six Basic Human Needs will allow you to create a team that will not only follow you but, also respect you. Bad leaders make demands by threats and intimidation, thus their workers only work out of fear, doing the minimum to survive. Continuing to grow as a leader by serving the needs of others will enable you to keep “Surging Forward” as well as helping others to keep “Surging Forward” with the whole team going in the right direction. Last weekend, my girlfriend and I went to Unleash The Power Within and saw Tony Robbins live and wow, what an experience! The last time I went to UPW was in Orlando sometime in 2009 I believe — since then, the program has changed a whole lot and I got so much out of it. […]
