Painful moments and loss are inevitable elements of anyone's life; there is nothing we can do to prevent bad things happen to us. Suffering, on the other hand, is entirely optional. What we do with what happens to us makes the difference. Facing the death of a loved one, we can drown in a pool of anger and self-pity, or we can use that loss as a catalyst to become better versions of ourselves and honor that person's memory. In today's episode, Jeff Johnston joins us to talk about how he used the death of one of his kids as fuel to rise for his family and give them nothing but the best of himself. Jeff is the author of "This one's for you," a book that aims to inspire those fighting the war against their addictions. He is also the host of the Living Undeterred podcast and the founder of Living Undeterred, dedicated to changing the narrative on mental health, substance abuse, and addiction, and Choices Network, a space designed to educate and inspire teens and young adults to make positive choices.Throughout our conversation, Jeff talks about how his life changed after losing his older son Seth, how his family reacted to the massive blow, and how it helped him see life differently. We talk about his book and how he felt during the writing process and after finishing it. Valentine's Day is one of those holidays that even if we decide to ignore or not celebrate, the world around us reminds us about it. With giant billboards on the streets, YouTube ads, and virtually every company having Valentine's Day promotions, it is almost impossible not to think about it. Still, although the primary goal of the holiday is to celebrate love and raise a spirit of positivity, many people struggle on February 14th. In today's episode, we analyze Valentine's Day from the Women Real & Raw perspective. We discuss how challenging this celebration can be for single people and unhappy marriages. We talk about how society associates being single with being sad or unwanted, not contemplating that people might be single by choice, and how that negative association makes them think those who are single suffer during this holiday. We also discuss how being in a relationship is overrated and why many people prioritize having a reliable partner over their own happiness. The first days of every year are usually stacked with big plans, strong and ambitious desires, and life-changing resolutions that, unfortunately, almost always end up not coming true. Today's episode is about finding the goal-achieving system that fits perfectly for each one of us. We explore the importance of finding the right person to hold us accountable, with enough authority and love to call out our shit, and why writing down our desired goals is crucial. We also discuss the difference between seeing resolutions as goals and as action steps and how essential it is to avoid being overwhelmed by our plans, causing us to shut down completely. Our conversation also touches on creating space for new things, both figuratively and physically, finding the balance between keeping what makes us feel alive and connected and decluttering what no longer serves us. There is no space for respecting different points of view; those who don't share an opinion are in opposite teams, and it seems nothing can change that. Society appears to ignore that two people, seated in the same car, at the same moment, can see different things when they look outside. Reality is a matter of perception; we all have one, which is generally different from the rest. Today, we delve into the lack of mutual understanding and respect society is sinking in.
