Jordan Perry writes music for other people for a living. The excitement of taking another artist’s ideas and turning them into fully realized recordings inspires and challenges him on a daily basis. But in fall 2019 he took on his biggest challenge yet; finding his own sound. When you spend your days creating for others it’s hard to find the time and energy for your own projects. Knowing the only way forward was by MAKING the time, Jordan, as the season’s first flakes of snow began to fall, locked himself in a cheap motel in Hawkesbury, Ontario with the sole purpose of writing as many songs for himself as possible. He emerged forty eight hours, two energy drinks and one bottle of whiskey later, with three songs that would become the first solo singles of his 20+ year career.Jordan, originally a Saskatchewan-born drummer, spent his early twenties traveling around Canada and exploring the unique musical avenues each region offered. His hometown of Saskatoon gave him his foundation of pop, electronic, hip hop and rock; The Yukon offered a deeper exploration of classic and modern hits as a karaoke host at a tavern in Dawson City and drummer of several cover bands; His arrival in Montreal led to an eight year run in the death metal band Derelict, which kept him on the road touring, releasing albums, solidifying him as an influential drummer in the Canadian metal scene, and resulting in a nomination for a Canadian Independent Music Award before the band dissolved in 2013. Suddenly free to focus his efforts on production, Jordan immediately began working with highly credited musicians including Scott Thomas Robinson (Demi Lovato), Danny Flam (Kanye West) and Dan Konopka (OK Go), eventually hitting the US Top 40 charts in 2019 with December Rose’s female empowerment anthem “Raise Your Voice” and Quebec Top 100 charts with Matt Tremblay’s “Fast & Slow”.Drawing influences from all aspects of his career, Jordan has created a sound completely unique to him. The nostalgic and dark electronic overtones have led some to draw comparisons to acts like Active Child and Rufus du Sol, with nods to Imogen Heap and Marina, while others have referenced Depeche Mode and The Cure, with a subtle but present hint of Synthwave. Jordan’s voice transitions seamlessly from smooth baritone to haunting falsetto, while his lyrics embrace the hard times and struggles inherent with a life in music. His debut single, “Drive into Night” is available on all streaming platforms.jordanperry.com/facebook.com/jordanperryartist instagram.com/jordnperryartistopen.spotify.com/album/6Ei0cbyhpP2asqXt37k3JO?highlight=spotify:track:2B74t1IUyE3WyfGwvS0aJZ See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

Joe Trapanese is a friend, colleague, and film composer who has worked on some of the coolest project and film scores of the last 5-10 years including The Greatest Showman, Jean Claude Van Johnson, Straight Outta Compton, Tron: Legacy, Oblivion, Only the Brave, Unsolved: The Murders of Tupac and the Notorious B.I.G., and The Raid series (which is my #1 secret weapon as a film editor). Rarely is there an episode of TV where I don’t use a track from The Raid if I’m working with a fight scene or a suspense sequence. It’s MONEY. In this interview Joe and I break down his path from a kid in New Jersey to moving out to Los Angeles and how he climbed from nowhere to the top of his profession in record time. In addition, Joe and I also do a deep dive into the creative process of collaborating with composers. If you have ever wondered how composers approach their work, or more importantly if you’re an editor like me and you want to know some cool tips for working with composers, this is an incredibly useful and insightful interview. Guest Bio: Facebook|Twitter|Instagram Joseph Trapanese is best known for his sleek score work for blockbuster films like “Tron: Legacy,” “Straight Outta Compton,” “Oblivion,” and the “Raid” series. As a composer, arranger, and producer for movie, television, theater, and video game music, he has collaborated with a number of mainstream musical acts. His first major break came in 2010 when he worked with Daft Punk on the sweeping digital soundtrack to Disney's “Tron” reboot/sequel. Trapanese followed that success by creating a score with Mike Shinoda of Linkin Park for the American release of the 2011 Indonesian martial arts film “The Raid: Redemption” (he would continue without Shinoda in 2014 with “The Raid 2”). That same year, he helped with arrangements on a handful of tracks for M83's breakthrough hit “Hurry Up, We're Dreaming,” which led to the pair's collaboration on the 2013 Tom Cruise scifi epic “Oblivion”. For 2017’s “The Greatest Showman,” Trapanese worked alongside Pasek & Paul and John Debney, producing songs and co composing the score. Notable solo scores include “Only The Brave” (2017), the landmark rap biopic “Straight Outta Compton” (2015), the second and third installments of the “Divergent” series, “Insurgent” (2015) and “Allegiant” (2016); “Earth to Echo” (2014); USA’s “Unsolved” (2018); Amazon’s “JeanClaude Van Johnson” (2017); ABC’s “Quantico” (201617) Freeform’s “Dead of Summer” (2016); EA’s video game “Need for Speed Payback” (2017); and Ubisoft’s video game “The Crew” (2014). In the studio and in concert, in addition to Daft Punk, M83, and Mike Shinoda, he has worked with Dr. Dre, Dierks Bentley, Zedd, Kelly Clarkson, Mike Shinoda, Kendrick Lamar, Moby, Aloe Blacc, Alessia Cara, Haim, The Glitch Mob, Active Child, Halsey, Sohn, John Newman, Dia Frampton, 3OH!3, Steven Price, and James Newton Howard. Born in New Jersey, Trapanese earned his B.A. in classical composition from the Manhattan School of Music. He went on to study at UCLA for his M.A. in music for visual media and taught electronic music composition at the school from 20082011. In 2016, he became a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. He is a founding member of The Echo Society. Show Credits: This episode was edited by Curtis Fritsch, and the show notes were prepared and published by Elyse Rintelman. The original music in the opening and closing of the show is courtesy of Joe Trapanese (who is quite possibly one of the most talented composers on the face of the planet). This week I'm joined by Stephen Christian, mastermind behind the project Anchor & Braille and former frontman of Florida alternative rock band Anberlin. Anberlin was a mainstay of the punk and emo scene throughout the 2000s, releasing celebrated albums like Never Take Friendship Personal and Cities; they also had a bona fide hit single, "Feel Good Drag," which went gold and at one point held the record for most consecutive weeks spent on the Billboard Alternative Songs chart. The band broke up in 2014, but Stephen is back with new music. His third album under the name Anchor & Braille, Songs For The Late Night Drive Home, is out this Friday, February 5, and is a phenomenal collection of moody, vibey pop in the spirit of acts like Washed Out and Active Child. I caught up with Stephen to chat about how writing this album was different than past projects, discuss how major labels tend to ruin the songwriting process, dive into some Anberlin songs and much more. Hope you enjoy! -------- Stephen Christian's Twitter | Facebook Songs For The Late Night Drive Home on iTunes The Art Collective with Stephen Christian podcast on iTunes Voice & Verse Podcast on iTunes | Stitcher | Twitter | Facebook

Analog junkie and Mumbai resident Aqua Dominatrix stitches together a delirious collection of synth-pop for mix #95. The musician, real name Akshay Rajpurohit, is also a guitarist for metal bands Scribe and Pangea (making his pretty, dreamy mix all the more surprising). He’s a relatively new solo producer, playing as ‘Aqua Dominatrix’ for only a year and releasing his full-bodied debut album ‘Sadomist’ earlier this year. It’s barely crossed the 6-month mark but ‘Sadomist’ has already collected more than 11000 downloads and over 10,000 streams on bandcamp - no easy feat for any alternative producer in India. But as good as ‘Sadomist’ was, nothing quite compares to Aqua Dominatrix’s live shows. In the few short months that he’s been playing live, Akshay has opened for quite a number of notable homegrown and international musicians including Para for Cuva, the Glitchmob and Pretty Lights. With an album due to come out later this year and a slew of shows planned for the coming months, we thought now was the right time to ask for an exclusive mix for Wild City. Our last couple of mixes have each been better than the last and Aqua Dominatrix keeps that trend going with a euphoric selection for the summer that features some of the brightest names in synthpop. AD starts things on a pretty epic note with Johnny Belinda by Californian beat maker Active Child. That drama soaked synthpop sound is maintained from start to finish with appearances by School of Seven Bells (which injects a wonderful shoegaze quality to the mix), ace Brooklyn based producer j.viewz, Future Islands and Essex legends Depeche Mode. The hour long mix ends with the ever-catchy ‘Tropical Chancer’ by La Roux. Listen to the summery tunes of Wild City Mix #095 on your next beachside drive in the sun.
