We're celebrating 100 episodes this week by returning to not one but two recurring themes from nearly two years of the podcast: the filmography of Steve Martin and the belief that February belongs to romance -- two concepts that combine decently well with some magical realism in our movie of the week, an absurdist take on life and love in Los Angeles that still feels like a cutting send-up of the city more than 30 years later. It's 1991's L.A. Story, directed by Mick Jackson, written by Steve Martin, and starring Martin, Victoria Tennant, Richard E. Grant, Marilu Henner, Sarah Jessica Parker, Kevin Pollak, Patrick Stewart, Frances Fisher, Iman, Larry Miller, Woody Harrelson, Rick Moranis and John Lithgow. So tonally cartoonish that it feels Martin is moments away from being crushed by a grand piano and popping out the top of it unscathed at any moment, that silliness conceals an earnest goodness about love, the universe, and everything finding a way to work out as it should. Are these beliefs that go hand-in-hand with the movie's wacky exterior, or does the film find itself at odds with itself? Find out, as we dive into a movie Hayley recently picked up on VHS. Plus: J Mo's still sore from having climbed into the wrestling ring over the weekend! If you'd like to watch the movie before listening along to our discussion, L.A. Story is currently streaming for free on the CTV app in Canada at the time of publication. Other works discussed in this episode include the video games Mario & Luigi: Brothership and Balatro, as well as TMNT: Mutant Mayhem, Only The Brave, 24, The Departed, The Nice Guys, Mission: Impossible - Fallout, Jurassic Park, the JJ Abrams Star Trek trilogy, the Disney Star Wars sequel trilogy, A Goofy Movie, Bowfinger, The Lonely Guy, Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid, Cheaper By The Dozen, The Tooth Fairy and They Came Together. Feb2ary Is For Lovers continues next week as we run it back for another 100 episodes beginning with Nicolas Cage and Cher in 1987's Moonstruck, which may be the most readily available film we've ever covered as it's currently streaming on Amazon Prime, Crave, Starz, Criterion Channel, Tubi and Hoopla as we release this. Thank you so much for listening for 100 episodes, or however long you've been on the ride. We love you, and see you at the movies!!

“Only The Brave” is a beautiful but tragic based-on-real-life events film by the director of Tron, Oblivion, Top Gun Maverick. A story about people who should always be remembered. This is my breakdown of the movie based on the 12 spheres of life that are present in every story, movie, situation in life no matter what, who, where, when, how and even no matter if we are aware of the 12 spheres or not. Knowing the 12 spheres just helps us see life clearly and have a basic fundamental structure to rely on, especially when things get tough mentally.27 things to know before meditating!https://vitalymeditation.gumroad.com/l/thetalkhttps://www.Instagram.com/vitalymeditationhttps://youtube.com/@vitalymeditationhttps://www.Twitter.com/vimeditationhttps://www.tiktok.com/@vitalymeditation

Episode 48 of The Blank Canvas Podcast with Alex Russell Alex Russell is one of those young actors who’s been quietly, or not so quietly racked up a dozen movie credits; both in Australia and the US. After starring in the acclaimed indie feature Wasted on the Young, he played the lead role in the US science fiction thriller Chronicle, grossing over $126 million. Then starred in re-make of Brian De Palma’s horror classic, Carrie alongside Julianne Moore & Chloe Grace Moretz, Andrew Niccol’s movie The Host, Cut Snake with director Tony Ayres, a role in Angelina Jolie's Academy Award nominated epic Unbroken, Greg McLean’s film Jungle opposite Daniel Radcliffe, Only The Brave with Josh Brolin, Goldstone, with Jacki Weaver. In television, Alex is into the 5th season of global hit drama SWAT, starring as the much loved Jim Street. This is all great but what impressed me most and prompted me to want to have a yak with Alex, is that rather than just cruising along as a successful working actor, he’s pro-actively producing his own projects. His latest micro-budget indie movie UNDER MY SKIN is punching well above it’s weight. Written and Directed by Alex’s regular collaborator Aussie David O’Donnell, and produced by Alex and Raynen O’Keefe. The story follows Denny, a free spirit and artist who falls for Ryan, a strait-laced lawyer, played by Alex. When Denny questions her gender their love is tested. It’s a powerful film and just won the Alternative Spirit Award at the prestigious Rhode Island International Film Festival and is currently trending on Aussie streaming platform in STAN. This is a podcast where Mark and Ian discuss (and rant) about all things Batman! We've got the final three episodes of Batman The Animated Series Volume 1 to review! First up is Appointment In Crime Alley which is also the first episodes Ian ever saw. It revolves around Batman trying to pay his respects to his parents on the anniversary of their death. Unfortunately for him he keeps having to help people. The next is Mad As A Hatter which introduces us to one of Mark's all time favorite villains, The Mad Hatter. Finally we get to Dreams In Darkness which has one of the best hooks of any episode with Batman a patient in Arkham. The plot was also used for Batman Begins. For Movie Swap Mark watched the very underrated Only The Brave (2017) and Ian watched Christopher Robin (2018). Follow us on Twitter @UncapedReview to keep up with what we are up to! Joe Trapanese is a friend, colleague, and film composer who has worked on some of the coolest project and film scores of the last 5-10 years including The Greatest Showman, Jean Claude Van Johnson, Straight Outta Compton, Tron: Legacy, Oblivion, Only the Brave, Unsolved: The Murders of Tupac and the Notorious B.I.G., and The Raid series (which is my #1 secret weapon as a film editor). Rarely is there an episode of TV where I don’t use a track from The Raid if I’m working with a fight scene or a suspense sequence. It’s MONEY. In this interview Joe and I break down his path from a kid in New Jersey to moving out to Los Angeles and how he climbed from nowhere to the top of his profession in record time. In addition, Joe and I also do a deep dive into the creative process of collaborating with composers. If you have ever wondered how composers approach their work, or more importantly if you’re an editor like me and you want to know some cool tips for working with composers, this is an incredibly useful and insightful interview. Guest Bio: Facebook|Twitter|Instagram Joseph Trapanese is best known for his sleek score work for blockbuster films like “Tron: Legacy,” “Straight Outta Compton,” “Oblivion,” and the “Raid” series. As a composer, arranger, and producer for movie, television, theater, and video game music, he has collaborated with a number of mainstream musical acts. His first major break came in 2010 when he worked with Daft Punk on the sweeping digital soundtrack to Disney's “Tron” reboot/sequel. Trapanese followed that success by creating a score with Mike Shinoda of Linkin Park for the American release of the 2011 Indonesian martial arts film “The Raid: Redemption” (he would continue without Shinoda in 2014 with “The Raid 2”). That same year, he helped with arrangements on a handful of tracks for M83's breakthrough hit “Hurry Up, We're Dreaming,” which led to the pair's collaboration on the 2013 Tom Cruise scifi epic “Oblivion”. For 2017’s “The Greatest Showman,” Trapanese worked alongside Pasek & Paul and John Debney, producing songs and co composing the score. Notable solo scores include “Only The Brave” (2017), the landmark rap biopic “Straight Outta Compton” (2015), the second and third installments of the “Divergent” series, “Insurgent” (2015) and “Allegiant” (2016); “Earth to Echo” (2014); USA’s “Unsolved” (2018); Amazon’s “JeanClaude Van Johnson” (2017); ABC’s “Quantico” (201617) Freeform’s “Dead of Summer” (2016); EA’s video game “Need for Speed Payback” (2017); and Ubisoft’s video game “The Crew” (2014). In the studio and in concert, in addition to Daft Punk, M83, and Mike Shinoda, he has worked with Dr. Dre, Dierks Bentley, Zedd, Kelly Clarkson, Mike Shinoda, Kendrick Lamar, Moby, Aloe Blacc, Alessia Cara, Haim, The Glitch Mob, Active Child, Halsey, Sohn, John Newman, Dia Frampton, 3OH!3, Steven Price, and James Newton Howard. Born in New Jersey, Trapanese earned his B.A. in classical composition from the Manhattan School of Music. He went on to study at UCLA for his M.A. in music for visual media and taught electronic music composition at the school from 20082011. In 2016, he became a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. He is a founding member of The Echo Society.
