Episode Notes Israel had high hopes this year for its tourism sector this year as it sought to surpass 2019 visitor numbers. But Hamas' surprise attack on the country, which has led to at least 1,000 deaths, has completely halted Israel's tourism industry, writes Middle East Reporter Josh Corder and Asia Editor Peden Doma Bhutia.  Corder and Bhutia report that major airlines worldwide, including American Airlines and Air India, have stopped routes to Israel. Meanwhile, several governments, such as the U.S., have issued “Do Not Travel” warnings to Gaza and urged their citizens to exercise caution when traveling to Israel.  Israeli officials had expressed optimism earlier this year the country could set tourism records in 2023. However, Israel was already struggling to meet its targets before the recent attacks. Furthermore, carriers halting flights from the Americas and Europe, both large source markets, will likely have a major impact on visitor numbers for the rest of the year.     Next, Airbnb is ending its Airbnb Plus program, reports Executive Editor Dennis Schaal.  Schaal writes Airbnb viewed the program as a way to obtain and promote and push exclusive listings that satisfied roughly 100 design expectations. However, he notes that Airbnb Plus sputtered and never came close to meeting expectations, with several industry experts questioning the usefulness of it for both hosts and guests. In addition, Airbnb hasn't onboarded any new Airbnb Plus listings in some time.  The official end date for the program is November 6.  Finally, Puerto Rico is launching a new tourism campaign geared towards travelers unable to take certain trips because they couldn't obtain their passport in time, writes Global Tourism Reporter Dawit Habtemariam. Habtemariam reports that the “No Passport, No Problem” campaign will launch next month. It aims to remind Americans they don't need a passport to visit Puerto Rico, a U.S. territory. Discover Puerto Rico Chief Marketing Officer Leah Chandler said about a third of Americans are unaware that trips to the island don't require a passport.  While the number of Americans traveling abroad is continuing to surge, Habtemariam notes that the average wait time to get a U.S. passport is between 10 and 13 weeks.

Is superhost status worth it in 2022?What is superhost status ○ The "superhost" designation on Airbnb is a sign that an Airbnb host has gottenconsistently good reviews over at least a year of hosting. Airbnb checks the status of hosts four times a year to ensure that a superhost badge is still relevant for each host.○ - Host a minimum of 10 stays in a year ○ - Respond to guests quickly and maintain a 90% response rate or higher ○ - Have at least 80% 5-star reviews ○ - Honor confirmed reservations (meaning hosts should rarely cancel)Is it worth it? Yes most of the time. It adds visibility and trust. Here is when its not worth it. When guests are being unnecessarily difficult or you areLosing sleep over it...Tips to maximize superhost status: Consistently deliver great guest experiences Respond fast and work on communication skills Maintain your property and upgrade it when needed Request reviews from your happy guests Damage control when you do get a negative reviewCan you lose superhost with one bad review? Yes absolutely if you do not have a lot of reviews, one or two can knock you out of superhost status...Data From AirDNAQuality of reviews was the second biggest impediment to achieving Superhost status. Of the 345,000 hosts with sufficient bookings in 2017, only 37% (129,000) had a rating of 4.8 or aboveThe remaining 112,000 hosts did not qualify due to either a low response rate or canceled bookings. Our findings are clear that hosts earn significantly more revenue on Airbnb when they receive the Superhost stamp of approval. The uptick can be seen in these key performance indicators:Experiencing an 81% higher occupancy rateEarning 60% more revenue per available dayA 5% improvement in listing trafficPutting in the necessary time, effort, and strategy toward elevating your host status makes a difference in your short-term rental profitability. This is further validated by Airbnb's recent announcement regarding the launch of Airbnb Plus. The company is making a continuous effort to classify and reward hosts who provide consistent and exceptional experiences.

Hi everyone! Welcome to episode #2 of the Art of Hosting Podcast. I'm your host Mary Amaechi and I'm excited to dive into this episode where I'll talk about the effects of interior design on a guest's vacation rental experience, and three tips to create an amazing guest experience. I'm the Founder and Creative Director of Ehzii Mary Interiors, which is a boutique online interior design studio with the goal to help you get new and more bookings for their vacation rentals. When we are planning our vacations and scrolling through different vacation rentals, we realize that the design of the space makes a huge difference (Lodgify, 2021). Let's be real, when we are looking for hotels to stay in, we all pay attention to the amenities and aesthetics. So, hotels that have beautifully designed spaces, tend to have more bookings. The same can be said for vacation rentals. Strategically designed spaces that are beautiful and appealing will tend to attract more paying guests. So, a vacation rental's interior design can have a larger impact on whether people book it or not. Let's get down to the practical, but psychological aspect of design and how it affects people. This is called Design Psychology, which helps us make decisions about architecture, interior design, and space planning. Our day to day environments significantly affect our mood and emotions (Weeks, 2018). Particularly, aesthetics such as light, texture and pattern, and room organization have been proven to reduce the effects of anxiety and depression because they offer restorative qualities to a home (Weeks, 2018).Also, keep in mind that you don't need to spend a ton of money to make your vacation rental cozy and enjoyable (Cascara, 2021). What matters is the few simple touches that make a huge difference on how your home looks and how inviting it is for your guests. These thoughtful touches will remind guests that you value them and that you took the time to think about their needs, and this my friends will make them feel cared for, and help give them an amazing guest experience in your vacation rental (Airbnb, 2021).FOLLOW Mary on the handles below: Instagram: @ehziimaryinteriorsTwitter: @EhziiMaryFacebook: @ehziimaryinteriorsLinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/company/ehzii-mary-interiorsReferencesAirbnb.

Standing out in crowded STR markets can be difficult. With new rental properties cropping up in desirable locations every day, developing a brand for your STR business is key to long-term success in a short-term market. He 'cut his teeth' with student rentals and has since moved into commercial, multifamily and, most recently, a vacation rental. To his credit, Dave seems to find a way to prove the concept on every type of investment he tries and I thoroughly enjoyed hearing about it. The bulk of my discussion with Dave surrounded his activities in student rentals in Thorold ON and his vacation rental in St. Davids ON near Niagara-on-the-Lake. My big takeaways from our discussion were as follows: 1. There are 'other ways' to manage student rentals and it is possible to negotiate more than you might have thought as long as you're reasonable with your tenants. and 2. vacation rentals in the Niagara Region can be extremely profitable and cash flow very well assuming their managed correctly. iTunes and Google/Android Listen Links: https://linktr.ee/theandrewhines Connect with Dave Liburdi https://liburdi-realestate.com/ Telephone: 905-818-9894 Connect with Andrew Hines on instagram: https://www.instagram.com/theandrewhines facebook: https://www.facebook.com/theandrewhines Greater Hamilton REI Meetup Group: https://bit.ly/2VSSc9i Specific Topics Discussed: supply & demand for student rentals in Thorold ON and how to price effectivelystudent rental financing and insurancerental licencingAirBnB Superhost and AirBnB Plus statusfundamentals of running a vacation rental Music Info, Artist: JPB, Song: High, NCS Release: Feb 1 2015, No Copyright Copyright Free

In today´s episode I talk with Blake, Airbnb host in Melbourne. He appeared on the podcast in October, when we talked about the Airbnb plus application process. Blake has two listings in Melboune, one regular Airbnb listing and one Airbnb Plus listing. We chat about how Airbnb plus listings differ from regular ones. Blake has a lot less control over what´s being displayed in his plus listing. The description is almost entirely composed by Airbnb. The order of the photos that are being displayed is also determined by Airbnb. Not by actual employees, but by an algorithm. As a result, the cover photos for each of the spaces in his listing, such as the bedrooms, the kitchen and the living room, are not the best pictures to show. The way that Airbnb selects the order of the photos seems to be completely random. There´s also no place to add captions, instead Blake can only select a few characteristics of what´s being showed in the photo.Check out Blake´s Airbnb Plus listing Connect with JasperEmail: jasper@getpaidforyourpad.comTwitter: @GetPaidForUrPadInstagram: @GetPaidForYourPad Facebook: www.facebook.com/getpaidforyourpadAirbnb News Facebook GroupTo subscribe to the podcast, please use the links belowClick Here to Subscribe via iTunesClick here to Subscribe via Stitcher (Android users)If you like the show, please consider leaving the show a review in iTunesor Stitcher. The desire for more and exceptional accommodation is something that many tourists long for and expect when planning their next holiday. Luxury villas and condos have long been an expense that many travellers are happy to splash out on in order to avoid the confinement of a typical 5 star hotel suite in order to have a more unique, Instagram-worthy experience. Even Airbnb has taken steps to play in this area with Beyond by Airbnb, following the acquisition of Luxury Retreats just over a year ago offering the platform's highest-end homes as well as Airbnb Plus, which includes 2,000 design-forward homes in several cities all over the world. One of the most sought after destinations for luxury travel is Palm Springs, a city in southern California best known for its hot springs, stylish hotels, golf courses and spas and of course the world famous music and arts festival Coachella. In today's episode I chat with David Crosta, the co-owner of 5 Palm Estates and Palms at Park, luxury villas that cater to the most discerning clientele and providing private pool, spa and fire pit plus luxury toiletries and a Chef-ready kitchen with service for 10 (just to name a few of the amenities provided).Topics we discuss include:* how do you go about building short term rental villas from the ground up* Most important challenges he faced* Factors that contributed to his success* Why David thinks it is essential to have your own websiteIf you would like to explore David's properties, you can learn more by following the links below:5 Palm EstatesPalms at ParkConnect with JasperEmail: jasper@getpaidforyourpad.comTwitter: @GetPaidForUrPadInstagram: @GetPaidForYourPad Facebook: www.facebook.com/getpaidforyourpadAirbnb News Facebook GroupTo subscribe to the podcast, please use the links belowClick Here to Subscribe via iTunesClick here to Subscribe via Stitcher (Android users)If you like the show, please consider leaving the show a review in iTunes or Stitcher.
