It helps me be less distracted and more present, to put away my phone and to ask myself what do I see and what do I feel?” Alyssa Bethke “Being an observant person, a curious person, a person who finds joy in your every day are powerful and important things to make a part of our everyday life.” Greta Eskridge “I felt like it was my responsibility to make sure everyone around me was OK.” Alyssa Bethke “I think you need a season of caring for your heart.” Alyssa Bethke “The goal of life is not to be free of pain but to be more and more intimate with the Lord, and letting Him see us through the pain rather than keep us from the pain.” Alyssa Bethke “It's OK to come undone and come to the end of ourselves because that is where God does His best work in our lives.” Alyssa Bethke “I wanted to live in my ideal life not my reality, but when we are honest with God He will meet us in our reality.” Alyssa Bethke “God always meets us with such grace and kindness. It's His kindness that leads us to repentance.” Alyssa Bethke “We have to ask ourselves, ‘who or what are we doing all this for? What is my legacy? What do I want to leave behind?'” Greta Eskridge “Every day I go for a 30 minute walk, without my phone, and I'm going to talk to God. And I ask myself, ‘where have I felt God's presence and where have I not felt God's presence'? This was such a time for me to tend to my heart and commune with Jesus.” Alyssa Bethke “The world is telling you all these things you need to be and do and that is going to leave you disappointed. But instead, by tending your heart and going to Jesus you're going to find the antidote to that anxiety and stress and disappointment.” Greta Eskridge “There is always wonder to behold so go on a wonder hunt!” Alyssa Bethke The Greta Eskridge Podcast is a part of the Christian Parenting Podcast Network. It wasn't that I needed to find the solution or that the outcome was the answer, but it really was meeting God in those moments. How do I bring my real life to Him? How do I really work through those disappointments with God? How do I still have hope in my life that doesn't look the way I want?” - Alyssa Bethke “I think that as a church, we need to know how to lament, because this is such a part of being human.” - Alyssa Bethke “First and foremost, we are not what we do. We are children of God, and we have to learn to rest and to be and to know that our value is not based on our performance, but our value is based on that we're image bearers of God.” - Alyssa Bethke “He has this way of increasing our capacity, increasing time, helping us get the things done that we need to get done. But learning to do it out of a place of rest and peace instead of this anxious, stressful spirit. And we can do that when we invite Him into it.” - Alyssa Bethke “Eventually, we found ways to manage our disagreements in loving and respectful ways that gave each other the benefit of the doubt. And we couldn't have done that without looking at how much grace we've been given by Jesus Christ and then learning how to mirror that same grace in our lives with each other.” - Chelsea Damon “I wholeheartedly believe that if you really want to see change in your marriage, you need to be willing to be the first one to step up and make a change.” - Chelsea Damon ________________________ Enjoy watching these additional videos from Jesus Calling YouTube channel! My guest and new friend, Alyssa Bethke, and I know what it feels like to unravel from trying to do it all - and I'm guessing you might relate to that feeling too. In a moment of powerful honesty, Alyssa is sharing the moment she realized how harmful "doing it all" was to her life and soul, and how to get back to a place of meeting God in our need. I cherished this episode with Alyssa and loved getting to talk about how to manage overwhelm, *actually* see our mundane as meaningful, encouragement for those feeling overlooked, and some wisdom on soul care and physical care. Have you ever thought of your life in terms of being satisfied with it or not? To be honest, I'm not sure the thought of whether I was “satisfied” in my life and motherhood really ever crossed my heart, but when Alyssa Bethke's book title came across my desk, I thought about the notion of satisfaction…and it became very clear that while maybe it's something that wasn't obvious to me in the past, upon reflection I realized that it is something that probably showed up often in my actions and self-talk. So we're going to talk about it today—feeling satisfied in life and motherhood. Alyssa is going to share what brings her peace and satisfaction. We're going to tackle obstacles to feeling satisfied and just unpack and encourage all at the same time. I'm really glad you're here for this conversation. Distracted or dissatisfied in your current stage of life? Today, Erin interviews her friend Alyssa Bethke to talk about motherhood and how parents can maintain peace and contentment, in themselves and at home.
My guest for The Happy Hour #399 is Alyssa Bethke! Alyssa and her husband, Jeff are an incredible duo who are passionate about Jesus, family, and scripture. Alyssa released her first solo book just yesterday called Satisfied and it is a MUST read. I'm so excited to have Alyssa on the show today, and feel so honored to celebrate her first book release! In today's show, Alyssa dives into what inspired her book and her journey of fighting for contentment within the mundane. If we learned anything during quarantine it's that it is easy to feel like every day is the exact same - and for Alyssa, motherhood began to feel that way. But Alyssa shares how she asked God to stir something up in her, and to love and serve with a passion only He can give. She says “It's out of His love that we love. So we need to fill up with His love to give love.” For the full summary and links to the show, click the link below! What does homeschooling look like when your family is busy with ministry projects, work, or just life? In this episode, Jessica interviews Alyssa Bethke about what homeschooling in Hawaii has looked like for their family as they lead several ministries and also write books. Alyssa offers encouragement for overwhelmed moms and reminds us of the many benefits of homeschooling, even when family life is full!
This week we chat with Alyssa Bethke about life in 2020 and creating a mission and vision statement for your family and marriage. Alyssa is married to Jeff, and mom to 3 little ones. She helps run Family Teams with her husband and together they have a podcast called The Real Life. Alyssa loves to encourage women to be fully satisfied in their relationship with God. And bonus, she gets to live in Hawaii!
In this final episode of the series on connection and community I have a conversation with Alyssa Bethke. And although she and her family live in paradise in Maui Hawaii, they have had to work, just like the rest of us mainlanders, for genuine connection. She shares some of the struggles around establishing community, as well as why its been worth the risk. (Also, just a heads up, the sound quality is not good on this one, but content is so good, its worth fighting through it.)
In this episode, Caleb (my husband) and I discuss some of what we did wrong and right, and a LOT about what we have discovered about being a team on mission together for the kingdom of God in our 9 years of marriage. We share some of the systems, rhythms, and practices that we have tried to implement to keep our focus on Jesus and be on mission together. #LabI68challenge this week is asking: What do I want my home to FEEL like? I hope you are finding a theme on this podcast. I am always trying to bring you conversations about real-life problems that us moms face on a daily basis. Also, I want to always point us back to Jesus as well as practical ideas to move forward. Today's episode is one of those issues we face on a regular basis: Alyssa Bethke is passionate about this idea of “being all and doing all.” She really digs into why women struggle with this. My intentions aren't always bad as a “doer” - they just aren't sustainable. I would love to fix it all, handle it all and make sure everyone in my life is happy. I really, really struggled with this in my 20s and 30s. However, I am so excited that I have grown in this area and found ways to trust what he's calling me to do - and only those things. I love how Alyssa asks herself this question, “Lord, what is mine to do?” Don't miss this part at the end when she gives us how she practically handles the pressure of many demands on us. As moms, this pressure to help, fix and support our kids is very real. It is very hard to face that reality - that there is never enough time or energy to do and be all. And that is where our faith comes in. How can we really lean into God so that we know what is ours to take and then we have peace surrendering the rest?In this episode, we discuss:The struggle of doing it all as a momThe gift of boundaries and how to say noFinding rest in God's grace and what he calls us to doEnjoy!CourtneyChapters00:00Introduction and Background01:18The Struggle of Trying to Do It All08:11Setting Boundaries and Saying No11:08Seeking God's Guidance in Each Season14:58The Desire for Control and Predictability16:16Finding Rest in God's Grace16:48The Struggle of Control and the Call to Surrender19:05Honesty and Unmet Expectations in Our Relationship with God20:33Parenting: Trusting God and Surrendering Control25:55Trusting in God's Goodness and Seeking His GuidanceConnect with Pardon The Mess:Christian ParentingPardon The Mess Courtney DeFeoGet your 2024-2025 prayer journal, A Life of FaithResources from today's show:Alyssa Bethke Instagram Jeffandalyssa.comWhen Doing It All, Is Undoing You - new bookGamechanger Amazon ListAmazon List - more ideasWhite Bird MovieCarpool ConversationsChristian Parenting storePardon The Mess is a part of the Christian Parenting Podcast Network.
