The stories are truly exciting!   Finally, Dean shares how, in our age of growing anxiety and worry, we can find God's peace and joy as we concentrate on His truth and His promise to be with us and care for us. DreamGirls Co-Founders Sharie Wilson and Tonya Thompson are on a mission to debunk the myth that black women *can't* have long, healthy hair and change the negative narrative around natural hair and instead, be champions for textured hair. Thompson and Wilson are professional hairstylists with over a decade of experience who are recognized for their reputation of having “magic hair-growing hands.” They've made it not only their expertise but passion to help black women's hair reach its greatest potential in both strength and length through the DreamGirls Healthy Hair Program and product line. Their journey began in 2001 when Sharie moved from her hometown, Los Angeles to Sacramento to pursue a job in corporate America, only to find herself returning home after long workdays to do what she truly loved...hair. Tonya has always had a passion for helping women gain confidence and feel beautiful by doing their hair and with an entrepreneurial spirit at a young age. She was the girl who did everyone's hair before school dances and even casually on the weekends. In 2006, Tonya's love for helping women feel beautiful through hair came full circle after Sharie presented her with a business venture of selling hair extensions. This quickly led to both sisters starting an apprenticeship to receive their cosmetology license and opening up the first DreamGirls salon which allowed them to get back to doing what they loved most- hair. The DreamGirls product line was released at the start of COVID-19 and helped provide hair care solutions to everyone at home who could no longer visit a salon. Since then, the product line expanded into curl and styling products as well as accessories for all hair types. DreamGirls products are color & straightener safe with UV protection and are infused with key ingredients that maintain and promote healthy hair growth such as Peppermint Oil, Pro Vitamin B5, Soybean Oil and Lavender while leaving out Parabens, Sulfates, and Sodium Chloride. This Podcast Is Episode Number 516, And It's About Construction Business Growth Through Networking And Having A Mentor Most business owners receive plenty of well-intentioned advice and 'helpful opinion' from family and friends. However, good business advice spoken from commercial experience is another matter entirely. That's not to say it's hard to find, but finding a reputable source in the Internet age is sometimes less than straightforward – especially if you have a specific problem to solve and limited time. This is why, for good times or bad, developing a network of peers or seeking out a business mentor can be a great idea. Networking Business owners shouldn't feel they need to operate in isolation. There are several options to consider, and you're not limited to only one or a few. Developing a network of peers and colleagues is an excellent way to keep in touch with new developments, and you'll have a great resource to access when you need input and advice. Your local chamber of commerce Your local chamber of commerce is likely to be a helpful resource. They should be able to put you in touch with industry bodies and refer you to people who can give you professional advice. In addition, they might also have information and resources to help you deal with the issues you are facing. Attending meetings and events is also an excellent way to brush up on skills and meet and network with other business people operating in your area. Local chambers can be found online through the US Chamber of Commerce. Your industry body Most industry sectors have some organization representing the collective interests of businesses operating in the sector; some will have more than one. They can give you industry-specific advice and put you in touch with other people in your line of business for input. These sources should also be able to refer you to reputable outside professionals if you need the help of an accountant or a lawyer, for example. They will generally also hold regular meetings where you can meet and get to know other small business owners. Once you've met or contacted a business peer or professional, swap business cards and keep their details on file; while you can do this manually, it would be more effective to include their details in your contacts on your computer and mobile and to connect with them through other networks like the business-focused LinkedIn or even Twitter. If you keep people's contact details, you can give them a call whenever you need assistance. Even if they cannot help you, they might be able to suggest someone who can. LinkedIn is a great networking resource for business people. You can join several online groups to ask relevant questions and get good advice. You can create your own if you can't find a forum to suit your needs.  We are also highly recommended on Alignable, and we recommend it, too. It is a great way to connect with local business owners and work-from-home entrepreneurs who are also there to network and market their services and might need a plumber, handyperson, roofer, or remodeling soon. Credible online sources of advice It would probably be best to meet face-to-face with your banker, accountant, or lawyer for financial or legal advice, depending on the advice you need. But there are several additional resources you can turn to for assistance. The usa.gov site dedicates part of its site to small and medium businesses. The United States Patent and Trademark Office website lets you do many online functions. For the answers to several employment or health and safety issues, look at the United States Department of Labor website. Business mentors If you're not looking for business advice on a particular problem but are more interested in long-term direction to help you grow and develop your construction business, you should consider getting a business mentor. Mentors can act as an experienced sounding board for ideas and help you consider long-term strategies, assess your business from an independent but supportive point of view, and even connect you with others from their business networks. So how do you connect with a mentor and get the most out of your mentor-mentee relationship? Perhaps you already have an accountant but would like a Construction Accounting mentor. The first step to seeking a mentor is knowing the kind of guidance you and your business would most benefit from right now.  For construction business owners in the early start-up stage, someone who can provide advice for surviving the first few lean years—and someone you can get in touch with more often—may be the perfect fit. In this scenario, finding a mentor with a background in your industry is a plus. Mentors with relevant experience have been where you are now and understand all your issues and frustrations. Let's face it: all business owners are busy people. And although meeting with a mentor consistently is most beneficial, doing so in person regularly can be a challenge for both parties. For some mentors and mentees, what works best is video calls. Our Contractor Bookkeeping Review, for instance, offers consultation and mentoring from Sharie and works well through a phone call or in-person meeting. To get the most out of mentoring—and to demonstrate how valuable your mentor's help has been—be sure to follow up on your progress. A mentor will appreciate hearing how you've put their advice to work, your milestones and successes, and the goals you'd like to work on in the future. Acknowledging your progress will help you stay motivated by seeing how far you've come. Final thoughts Profitable contractors attend networking events not because they have nothing better to do; they do it because it pays off. You can either spend hours doing office tasks like bookkeeping or getting face-to-face with someone who may need your services. Meeting people gives you the chance to build and develop relationships, hire you, or refer you to someone who might. The opportunity to learn from not just an accountant but your Construction Accounting mentor can do more for your business than any course, educational program, or degree. Being a mentee means you get first-hand experience without dealing with all the mistakes yourself.  About The Author: Sharie DeHart, QPA, is the co-founder of Business Consulting And Accounting in Lynnwood, Washington. She is the leading expert in managing outsourced construction bookkeeping and accounting services companies and cash management accounting for small construction companies across the USA. She encourages Contractors and Construction Company Owners to stay current on their tax obligations and offers insights on managing the remaining cash flow to operate and grow their construction company sales and profits so they can put more money in the bank. Mystery deepens as friends reveal 'catfish' killer's movements before murdering teen's familyThe former Virginia trooper accused of killing three members of a California family after “catfishing” their teenage relative drove to the state to visit a longtime girlfriend days before the triple homicide, a close friend of the ex-trooper said in an exclusive interview with NBC News. The friend, Tommy Gates, declined to identify the girlfriend but said the two had met online. He believed she was two to three years younger than Austin Edwards, 28. A home that Edwards recently purchased in Saltville, in southwestern Virginia, was intended for the two of them, he said.Edwards had been dating the woman for at least five years, a second close friend said in a text. The trip raises new questions in the horrific case, including what plans Edwards made in the days and weeks before arriving in Riverside, east of Los Angeles, where he was accused of killing a single mother and her parents, and then driving off with the woman's 15-year-old daughter on Nov. 25 as their house burned. In interviews, people who knew Edwards struggled to comprehend how he could have carried out the crimes. A woman who'd gone to community college with him and remained his friend was hospitalized under the weight of what her father described as crushing guilt.“If she could have seen it, she could have done something to stop it,” said the woman's father, Rodney Shortridge. His daughter declined to comment.Gates, 27, said he learned of the trip to California from Edwards' father the day after the killings, when the father believed his son was missing, Gates said. Efforts to reach Edwards' family have been unsuccessful.Gates wasn't sure where in California the girlfriend lived but said her home was not in Riverside, where the killings occurred.Asked about the visit, Ryan Railsback, spokesman for the Riverside Police Department, said Thursday that investigators were trying to figure out Edwards' plans but declined to comment further. It isn't clear what connection, if any, the trip had to a "catfishing" scheme in which authorities believe Edwards posed as a 17-year-old to interact with the 15-year-old girl. Gates said he didn't know about the alleged scheme."None of us had any idea," said the second close friend, who asked not to be identified because he feared association with Edwards.Authorities have identified the victims as Brooke Winek, 38; Mark Winek, 69; and Sharie Winek, 65. Their cause of death has not been released. The teenage girl was not injured. Edwards died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound, Railsback said.Speaking to reporters late last month, a family member of the Wineks, Mychelle Blandin, described her sister Brooke as a devoted single mom doing her best to raise her two children; her father, Mark, as a high school baseball and softball coach "with a big caring heart;" and her mother, Sharie, the matriarch of the family, who "did anything and everything for anyone."They are forever in my heart and I miss them deeply," she said, adding: "We have some solace that this person will never harm anyone again, especially a minor."A 'spontaneous' tripEdwards had traveled to California because he had some vacation time for Thanksgiving, the second close friend of Edwards said.He "decided to up and go see her since he had just enough time to drive there and back before he had to work the following Monday,” said the friend. It was Edwards' first visit to meet the girlfriend, whom he often played League of Legends and Minecraft with, Gates said.Neither Gates nor the second friend knew about the trip ahead of time, a move Gates described as unusual. The second friend said he learned of it from Edwards' father after Edwards didn't let him know he was heading home.Believing Edwards was missing, his friends reached out to his girlfriend, Gates said.In a text message with the second close friend, the girlfriend described Edwards' trip as "spontaneous" and said everything had gone well, the second friend said."Nothing was unusual to her about his mannerisms or anything like that," he said.To Gates, this made what happened next that much more awful and perplexing.“I'm angry, obviously,” Gates said. “He's my buddy, my best friend. Before all this, he was one of the people I would have done almost anything for. How could he ever do something like this?”Planning for the futureThe last time Gates saw Edwards was in early October, when he visited him in the Richmond area. Edwards, who'd graduated from the Virginia State Police academy in January, was working as a trooper in a county that surrounds the state's capital city, the agency said. The two went to a Renaissance festival in Maryland and Edwards seemed “as happy as could be — openly,” Gates said. “I don't know what was in his heart and mind. But to other people he was acting cheery and happy.”Before joining the academy, Edwards had dropped out of high school in Richlands, in southwestern Virginia, and earned his GED, Gates said. He worked at Walmart and Lowe's, according to Gates. In 2017, he attended Southwest Virginia Community College, earning no certificates or degrees, a school spokesman said.Shortridge, whose daughter also worked with Edwards at Walmart, recalled hosting a comic-con type event that Edwards attended and talking about his future with him.“He was lower in the income level than your average people around here,” said Shortridge, a retired trucker who lives in nearby Tazewell. “Austin said that's why he wanted to find a good job, to help his family out of poverty. I was like, man — I respect the hell out of that.”Signs of troubleIn high school and several years after, Edwards was prone to bouts of depression, Gates said. In 2016 he was detained for a psychiatric hold after he threatened to kill his father, according to a police report obtained by the Los Angeles Times. According to Gates, Edwards hurt himself with a hatchet."He was going through a hard time," Gates said. "He really snapped that night."Gates wasn't aware if Edwards had had other run-ins with law enforcement, and he said he'd been remorseful about the incident with his father. After the killings, Virginia State Police said it found no "indicators of concern" in a background check for Edwards. After the Los Angeles Times article was published, the department said Wednesday that "human error resulted in an incomplete database query" during his hiring process.“Although we believe this to be an isolated incident, steps are currently underway to ensure the error is not repeated going forward,” the department said. The statement didn't mention the police report cited by the Los Angeles Times or provide additional details. NBC News has not confirmed the details of the report.Chuck Russo, a criminal justice professor at American Public University System and former law enforcement officer who conducted background checks for two Florida agencies for nearly a decade, said the person doing the state police investigation may have forgotten to check the correct box in a management system or failed to reach out to the agency for a records check.Russo described the human error as a "huge black eye" for authorities. He also called on the sheriff's office in Washington County, where Edwards worked after he resigned from the state police, to publicly state it is reviewing hiring practices. The sheriff, Blake Andis, has not responded to requests for comment.'He took an oath to protect'Edwards quit his post as a Virginia State Police trooper on Oct. 28 — 10 months after he graduated from the academy. He wanted to move back to southwestern Virginia, where he could be closer to friends and family, Gates said. With savings and money that Gates believes Edwards obtained from a loan — and a goal of bringing his girlfriend east — he bought a home sight unseen for nearly $80,000 in Saltville.Gates said he'd heard the girlfriend discuss the move to Virginia when he was with Edwards who had placed a call with her on speaker phone."He'd finally gotten his dream setup and had everything lined up to have the best life," he said. "Why would he want to end it all of a sudden?"After Edwards moved in on Nov. 14, he covered the windows with what Jacob Gordon, who had sold him the house, described as tint that was likely from an auto shop. He also hung blackout curtains, Gordon said.Gordon said he didn't know why Edwards had darkened his windows. Gates, who hadn't visited the house but planned to, didn't know what to make of it either."It's strange for him," he said. "He liked his privacy but he never did anything like that."Railsback said Friday that authorities had still not analyzed the items recovered from Edwards' home.Gates learned of the killings and alleged catfishing from news coverage. Initially, he said he didn't believe it. But as the story developed, and more details were released, he said he came to acknowledge that his best friend had likely done something horrific — even if he couldn't square the man he'd known for years with the criminal described by the victims' family member, Mychelle Blandin."This horrific event started with an inappropriate online romance between a predator and a child,” Blandin said, adding: "He took an oath to protect and yet he failed to do so. The tragic death of Sharie and Mark Winek and their daughter Brooke Winek seems so senseless. Most of us are still reeling as small pieces of truth come out about what lead up to the deaths of some of the finest people of our community. For the public, we all stop and pause and think that these kinds of things simply could not be happening to those we know and love. Most of us are aware that online sexual exploitation happens but we assume it happens to “others”. But for Million Kids Team members, we know all too well the many ways the travesty of online social media exploitation can play out. Our heart bleeds for the young victim who met this wretched predator online and had a fantasy relationship that he was perhaps someone who would care for her and admire her. Few adults, let alone adolescents, can visualize the many ways this can go horribly wrong. We hope every parent, grandparent and teen will listen as Million Kids shares the many ways online sexual exploitation takes place so we can say, “Never Again” to these kinds of events. Sextortion is the most prolific crime in the world facing our youth. Social media exploitation can be perpetrated by individual pedophiles, or groups of pedophiles who are gathering erotic photos for child pornography rings. Recently there has been a major increase in sextortion rings from third world countries, tricking our kids into sending illicit materials and then demanding large sums of money. Our naïve kids have no idea they are victims of predators from Pakistan, Philippines, Ivory Coast or Belize. Many of those victims take their own lives before a parent or loved one can intervene. THIS TRAGEDY MUST STOP. Please listen to this show and share it with everyone you know. Our hearts bleed as we try to comprehend this horrific crime suffered by the Winek Family. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/million-kids/support

Electrifying, daring, and hypnotizing are just a few words used to describe Los Angeles Neo Alternative Rock artist, Élishia Sharie. Drawing upon iconic influences, like AC/DC and Nirvana, Élishia Sharie effortlessly synthesizes elements of 80's Classic Rock with 90's Grunge to create an aggressive, cross-generational sound that she contrasts with an unapologetically soulful vocal, reminiscent of Janis Joplin and Tina Turner. Her distinct, raspy tone tells a powerful story of pain, desperation, and eventual triumph—a voice previously devastated by vocal trauma that left her entire singing range obliterated. After a 12-year battle to recover her voice and rediscover her confidence, she emerged from the ashes with her first global release, titled “FIGHT!”. This fiery Punk anthem informs her personal mission to empower her growing fan base to FIGHT! for their own dreams, despite obstacle or opposition. Élishia Sharie is currently continuing her time travel through the Rock ages to deliver a nostalgic, yet uniquely mutated collection of music, tentatively titled “The Phoenix Rises.” She is also currently on tour.

When sisters Tonya Thompson and Sharie Wilson began offering hair services at a young age, they didn't necessarily think it would become a future career. However, a path that led to college, business and sales ended up full circle as the two launched a business in hair extensions that then morphed into products aimed at helping Black women grow healthy hair. Sharie and Tonya's wildly successful product line, DreamGirls, seeks to break the stigma and stereotype that Black women cannot grow long, strong hair. Through their salons and products, Tonya and Sharie share the message that protective styles are and option, but never something you have to do. The pair's inspirational drive, business acumen and vision support women not just in appearance but also in changing their lives as they have begun to mentor women in business. This podcast is a message by Sharie King from Crossroads Summer Camp 2021 called, How Knowing Jesus Changes Everything. Very often a relationship with Jesus is sold as a free gift which secures eternal life in heaven. But, our relationship with Christ, while it is a gift from God, it was not free. Our salvation not only required Jesus to sacrifice his life for us, but it also challenges us to “take up our cross and follow him.” Sharie teaches on what it means to take up our cross, and how Jesus changes everything.
