Wahrscheinlich muss man es einfach herunterbrechen: Wir haben nur einen Planeten und mit dem müssen wir auskommen. Mit dem Planeten und dem, was darauf ist. Das kann sogar ein CEO verstehen, wenn er im Geschäft bleiben möchte. Nur je später wir anfangen, desto schwieriger wird es. Also wäre es doch ganz gut, heute anzufangen, sagt Martin Bethke, Autor, Berater und Speaker rund um das Thema Nachhaltigkeit. Die Frage der Nachhaltigkeit ist im Grund ganz schlicht: Kann ich das, was ich da draußen tue, eigentlich vor mir selber verantworten? Und wenn nein, warum handele ich dann nicht jetzt schon? Das Problem sind aber oft die Denkmuster dahinter. Was sichert unseren Wohlstand? Was ist Wachstum? Letztlich auch: Was ist wirklich wichtig, was wollen wir erreichen? Unsere üblichen Denkmuster stehen uns schon gehörig im Weg, wenn wir über Nachhaltigkeit reflektieren. Tenor: Kann ja sein, dass die Möglichkeiten begrenzt sind; ich möchte trotzdem viel, sollen die anderen halt weniger nehmen - und übrigens bin ich so ein toller CEO, weil ich genau das kann: Auf Kosten anderer leben.Was treibt die Nachhaltigkeit? Martin setzt auf einen Dreiklang aus Wissen (Stichwort: Earth Overshoot Day), erwünschter Langlebigkeit (Was wollen wir der nächsten Generation hinterlassen?) und Regulatorik. Letzter wirkt wahrscheinlich am stärksten. Dennoch ist, wer immer sich für Nachhaltigkeit einsetzt, oft ein eher ungewollter Akteur. Letztlich halten wir uns mit der Forderung nach mehr Nachhaltigkeit ja auch den Spiegel vor: Gerade weil wir seit Beginn der Industrialisierung nicht nachhaltig gewirtschaftet und gelebt haben, müssen wir nun umso mehr die Transformation suchen. Es möchte eben nicht jeder daran erinnert werden, dass wir uns die Suppe selbst eingebrockt haben. Martin plädiert für einen pragmatischen Optimismus: Wir schaffen das, wir können in der Transformation hin zu einer nachhaltigen Wirtschaft und Gesellschaft weit genug kommen und auch schnell genug sein. Wir haben das nötige Ambitionsniveau, wir haben die Erkenntnisse. Das Problem ist einzig die Umsetzung. Das aber, sagt Martin, ist auch eine gute Nachricht, denn wir haben es in der Hand. Can a managed assigned council system be a workable solution to indigent defense problems?   Jim Bethke is the former executive director of the Texas Indigent Defense Commission and the current director of the Managed Assigned Counsel Office in San Antonio. In this episode, he talks about the system that he helped create and the areas he thinks still need work.    There are three main types of indigent defense representation delivery models: full-time public defender, office contract counsel, and assigned counsel. Texas relies heavily on assigned council, and there are both pros and cons to that.
