On Wednesday last week the Victorian Government released its response to the Yoorrook Justice Commission's report entitled ‘Yoorrook for Justice'. The commission is the nation's first formal truth-telling process set up to examine injustices experienced by First Nations people since colonisation. Of the 46 recommendations the report makes, the Victorian Government under Jacinta Allans supports just 4 in full, with 39 supported in principle or in-review, and 3 recommendations outright rejected. The establishment of a new police independent oversight authority, as recommended by the Commission, is being reviewed or supported in principle. The Victorian Government rejected recommendations that include: raising the criminal age of responsibility to 14 and the minimum age of detention to 16; overhauling discriminatory bail laws and creating a presumption in favour of bail for almost all offences; and strengthening the state's Charter of Human Rights to make it more accessible.I spoke with Nerita Waight, the CEO of the Victorian Aboriginal Legal Service to talk about the Victorian Government's response. On this week's show, I was super excited to be joined by Anthony Kelly, the founder of DeepRec.ai which is a niche AI recruitment agency, part of the wider Trinnovo group. He joined the Trinnovo group three and a half years ago, as part of the Trust in Soda brand. After seeing early success, he left Ireland, moving to the UK and it was here that he realised he wanted to be an entrepreneur. At the start of 2023, Anthony decided that it was this year that he wanted to launch his agency and that he wanted to do it in Bishop's Stortford, to be close to his partner and newborn baby. A little negotiation with the founders of Trinnovo, and they agreed that he could launch his own business within the portfolio, as long as he wanted to build something of scale. They discussed building a business of circa 50 people in headcount with a 2 million EBITDA as a target focus. Anthony said, “yes, but I want to do it my way in an office five days a week in Bishops Stortford. We're not going to be in London.”They all agreed and got it off the ground. So he's now a team of five, five months in. He's got a plan to be 18 in 12 months. They're profitable and they're making significant waves from a placement perspective. In this show, I discuss:The strategy behind his businessHis approach to building something locally outside of LondonHow he's going to build that scale and what that will mean for him and the team in the futureIf you're wanting to speak to or learn from someone who's right in the thick of the first six months of growth of being a new founder, but with a vision of scale and exit and all the things that most people in our industry want, then this is an episode for you to listen to.Anthony is a charismatic, open, friendly Irish guy. I love talking to him. I'm sure you will too. Hoxo MessageAre you spending hours on LinkedIn and cold outreach and want more business coming to you over your competition? Well, if you're the founder or leader of a recruitment agency, here's what we can do for you at Hoxo.We will give you the training, support, and resources to take you from what I call “an offline recruiter”, reliant on posting jobs and sending in emails to open up new customers, ultimately looking like every other recruiter on LinkedIn - to “an online recruiter”, being seen by over 25,000 relevant people driving a 200% minimum increase in engagement on your profile and seeing daily lead lists from LinkedIn that you can follow up within six weeks time. And if you don't perform, you don't pay. How can we make such a bold, results-driven promise like this? Two reasons:1) While I've been building The RAG Podcast, we've actually done what we say we'll do for our clients. In less than two years, we built a business generating from zero to over 1 million views per month on LinkedIn leading to multimillion-pound revenues with a sales team of me plus two people without making a single outbound call.2) Our track record - not only have we done it ourselves, but we've helped over 350 agencies and over 4,700 consultants do it as well, all in the last three years. Ricordiamo in sintesi i fatti. Come è poi avvenuto.
In this 17 minute final episode on participatory community development Anthony Kelly explains meta-method - working beyond and alongside, breaking down borders, boundaries and walls. It's working 'beyond the local', structurally building alliances, federations; but is mainly a mindset. This brings an end to our series on participatory community development. Look out next week for the start of Series 4 with Dr Athena (Tina) Lathouras exploring the role of 'traditions and mantra's in reflective practice' (which builds on the book 40 Critical Thinkers in Community Development).
In this 20 minute episode Anthony Kelly talks to Peter about this most important level of the method-framework - macro-method. Focusing on: 1. how the authority structures (elected and appointed) need to understand the difference between a service-delivery program and a participatory program; 2. the 4 principles of macro-method; and 3. how to incorporate a participatory development program into an organisation that is historically oriented towards service delivery.
In 27 minutes Anthony Kelly and Peter Westoby explore the 7 steps of mezzo method - a way for workers to work within small groups. As Anthony says, 'the most exciting part of the method', which includes people sharing stories, discovering the resources, shaping a framework with the people, and finding a pathway forward for action.
In this 18 minute episode Anthony Kelly and Peter Westoby explore the craft of mezzo group - participatory groups. Building on the implicate and micro-level practice, we explore how we work intentionally with the small group in communities (sub-community of 3-12/20 people) - the mezzo (mezzanine), between household and whole village/neighbourhood. We examine the what, why, the types of mezzo-groups (self-help etc.) and then the role of people/leaders/experts in the mezzo.
In this 2nd episode of the series on participatory community development, Peter Westoby interviews Anthony Kelly exploring additional introductory comments and also implicate method (the first of the five levels of practice in this method framework).
In episode #1 of this new series - which will include a number of interviews/conversations with Peter Westoby, Rachael Donovan and Anthony Kelly - we introduce Participatory Community Development (CD) as an approach to social change. This 14 minute interview considers the differences between service delivery and participatory CD, introduces what a framework is, and particularly the 'method framework' that this series will explore in depth: implicate, micro, mezzo, macro, meta. The series explores the content of the 2018 book by Anthony Kelly & Peter Westoby Participatory Development Practice: Using traditional and contemporary frameworks (Practical Action Press).

Interviews and DiscussionA recording of Anthony Kelly an activist with Melbourne Activist Legal Support (MALS) who gave a speech at a forum organised by Green Left titled "Covid 19 pandemic, the State, and the far right: A left response" on August 24 where he speaks about some of the ideological underpinnings of the growing anti-lockdown far-right movement in Australia. You can listen to the individual speech here.Interview and discussion with Graham Matthews a person with disability who has been an NDIS participant since 2017 and member of Socialist Alliance. He has been part of developing policy for Socialist Alliance which proposes an inclusive needs-driven National Disability Insurance Scheme which can be read here. Graham spoke about the limitations of the current NDIS service-based delivery model, some of the proposals put forward by the Federal liberal government that seek to undermine the model, and why a needs-driven National Disability Insurance Scheme would look like, Graham makes the argument that framework for disability care provision must be decided by people with disability themselves. You can listen to the individual interview here.Interview and discussion with Zita Henderson who is a health worker and unionist about the question of mandatory vaccination and whether employers should be mandated to force workers to be vaccinated against COVID-19. Zita does not support mandatory vaccination and argues instead for a community-driven approach that attempts to educate people about the benefits of COVID-19 vaccination and that the Federal government should be implementing alternative measures such as paid vaccination leave for workers as a alternative to coercive policies. Purple Bagels? WHAT?!! We had the privilege this week of stopping by one of the premiere bagel shop's in Queens, Tulip Bagels of Floral Park. Owned by a good friend and young business mogul in the making, Anthony Kelly (@anthonykellyy). Not only did he invite us into his world but he also greeted us with our very own Purple Bagels! And to top it all off he honored us with the new fall addition to his menu "The PCXC", which is an everything bagel loaded with veggie cream cheese, vintage grape jelly from the hills of Tuscany, and extra butter (available every Sunday for the duration of the NFL season, starting September 8th). Anthony brought us into his world and let us in on how his dream of owning his own bagel shop, which began 20 years ago at the ripe age of 12, all came into fruition. During our show he joined in on some Purple Cup banter, starting with one of his child heroes, ex-governor Andrew Cuomo (Uncle Andy), and how misunderstood most Italians are when showing what they deem as affection. This week's #BrunchBanter brought with it some interesting insights as to what each of us (now in our 30's) would advise the 20 year olds out there based off our own experience. We talk about Ant's team, The Lakers, bringing in all these old heads and how we feel sports organizations should handle the aging vets on their beloved squads. We delve into PJ Washington's mishap with that IG loose-goose, and much more! Stop by and pay Anthony a visit (you will NOT be disappointed) at; Tulip Bagels: 175 Tulip Avenue, Floral Park NY 11001

In this podcast episode I talk to Anthony Kelly about how Data Science is still a black box for many strategic roles in companies such as a product, marketing or innovation manager. Cousera courses are good but most non-programmers drop out of these courses. This is a problem, because it is important that those who understand the business processes best also need a basic methodological understanding of data science. The resulting communication problems between data scientists and managers lead to the failure of projects. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/techrap/message

Mark Hughes was one of the greatest players to put on the number 10 shirt for Manchester United, winning multiple league titles and cups and scoring twice in a European final - but is the Welsh legend one of the most underappreciated players of his time? In the latest episode of the 90's Football Hall of Fame show, we examine why he's not considered an icon of the game like some of his former teammates, his knack for spectacular volleys, greatest moments, why it didn't work out for him at Barcelona, how he transformed his playing style as he got older, and why he became such a miserable manager. This podcast is hosted by Ste McGovern, Peter Henry and Anthony Kelly and is available on all platforms including Spotify and Apple Podcasts. Georgi Kinkladze was one of the most exciting players of the 90's. He was a marvellous dribbler who scored some delightfully exquisite goals during his three year stay at Man City. While he might be a cult hero with fans, 'Kinky' was also coach's nightmare - he had more talent than anyone else, but lacked tactical discipline, didn't possess particularly impressive physical attributes and was a number 10 when 4-4-2 reigned supreme. In the latest episode of the 90's Football Hall of Fame show, we ponder whether or not Kinkladze was actually any good or just a flash in the pan. This podcast is brought to you by The Football Faithful and is hosted by Ste McGovern, Peter Henry and Anthony Kelly and is available on all platforms including Spotify and Apple Podcasts. There has never been a footballer like Julian Dicks - a hard-as-nails bastard, set piece specialist with a peach of a left foot who played at full-back. And we'll never see another like him again, not at the highest levels of the game anyway. Dicks was a West Ham United legend in the nineties, helping the London outfit reach the Premier League and creating some iconic memories at Upton Park. The Bristol-born defender was a tough nut who got into his fair share of scraps, but he also scored some cracking goals during his career, becoming the club's joint-18th all-time goalscorer during his career. "The Hammer From Hell" had an ill-fated move to Liverpool in 1993 and an England call-up was always just out of reach, so in this episode of the podcast we ponder whether he reached his full potential as a footballer, what made him so unique as a player, and why he's the quintessential Brit. Mesmerising football, stunning goals, machine guns and guava-flavoured condoms - it can only be Faustino Asprilla! The former Newcastle United attacker arrived in the north east during a snowstorm in February 1996 wearing a fur coat just as the Magpies' title charge was about to come off the rails. In the third episode of the 90's Football Hall of Fame, we talk about his hypnotizing style of play, his famous performances against Liverpool and Barcelona, narco-football in his native Colombia, why he snubbed Darlington, and his love affair with guns. This podcast is brought to you by The Football Faithful. Hosted by Ste McGovern, Peter Henry and Anthony Kelly.
