Send us Fan MailA naked dinner party assignment. An alligator living by a dollar store. A “be more efficient” book that actually teaches you to rest. Lifestyle and wellness reporter Madeleine Aggeler has made a career out of taking the internet's strangest trends seriously enough to find the human truth inside them, and she joins us to explain how that work actually happens. We start with Madeleine's unconventional journalism origin story: a childhood spent devouring magazines, a detour through the Peace Corps and Foreign Service ambitions, then a one-year gamble in New York that turns temp work and small gigs into a real reporting career. She breaks down what it was like learning on the fly during the high-output days at The Cut, why writing fast can sharpen your voice and how a bold pandemic-era move helped her chase the kind of long-form journalism she wanted to do. From there, we get practical about idea generation and wellness reporting. Madeleine shares how she spots stories, why trusting your gut often beats guessing what readers want and how she balances curiosity with healthy skepticism in an age of nonstop health content. We talk about trends that surprised her, trends she'd never do again and the “boring” habits that keep showing up as the most reliable wellness advice. Finally, she tells us what she's watching now, including strength training culture and the relationship side of GLP-1 medications. If you like smart, funny reporting that still asks big questions about loneliness, dating culture, beauty standards and self-improvement, hit subscribe, share this with a friend and leave a review so more listeners can find us.Madeleine Aggeler's author page at The Guardianhttps://www.theguardian.com/profile/madeleine-aggelerMadeleine's LinkedInhttps://www.linkedin.com/in/madeleine-aggeler/Blueskyhttps://bsky.app/profile/mmaggeler.bsky.social

In 2026, the dating scene is all about authenticity and emotional openness. Gone are the days of playing games; now, singles are prioritizing genuine connections over fleeting interactions. This shift has given rise to some fascinating trends that we'll explore today.Let's kick things off with 'Clear-Coding,' the new buzzword in dating. This concept revolves around open communication of one's non-negotiable values and intentions right from the start. By embracing this radical transparency, daters set clear expectations and build a foundation of honesty that's essential for nurturing meaningful relationships.Next up is the increasing importance of emotional availability. A survey revealed that more than half of today's singles value honest conversations, with many expressing a desire for greater empathy after rejection. In this climate, daters are seeking deeper connections, encouraging a culture where vulnerability is welcomed and embraced.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/lets-talk-sex-and-dating--5052038/support.
In 2026, a fascinating term has gained traction: "friendfluence." Imagine combining "friends" with "influence"; this concept highlights just how much our friendships shape our romantic lives. Going beyond just hanging out, friendfluence emphasizes that the circles we run in can significantly impact our dating preferences and experiences. The term was originally coined by Carlin Flora in her book, Friendfluence, back in 2013. But it's now become crucial in understanding dating trends today. According to Tinder's "Year in Swipe" report, a remarkable 42% of respondents say that their friends directly influence their dating choices. This shows a powerful shift in how we approach romance—no longer is it just about "you" or "me"; it's increasingly about "us"—that includes friends, of course!Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/lets-talk-sex-and-dating--5052038/support.
In recent years, the dating world has undergone some fascinating shifts. Today, we're diving into the resurgence of in-person dating, looking at how our romantic interactions are evolving back into the real world after a long period dominated by screens.Let's start with an exciting trend—more people are opting for face-to-face connections and leaving their dating apps behind. It's happening all over, but one standout example comes from Brian Head Resort in Utah, where people are joining ski slopes for speed dating events. Picture this: you're on a chairlift, getting to know someone as you glide up the mountain. It's not just about hitting the slopes; it's about making those genuine connections people crave—a refreshing change from swiping left or right.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/lets-talk-sex-and-dating--5052038/support.

In this week's episode, hosts Jill and Anthony discuss the dating trends that are gaining traction in 2026.
Friend-fluence may save dating? Its like a double date, but its actually the first date. Anna and Raven discuss how groups of friends may make a date less stressful and more natural, leading to a better relationship. Yay or Nay? Anna's experienced one of the scariest phones calls a mother could get. Her daughter got into her first car accident. Everything ended up being okay, but Anna had to explain the insanity of this story! Anna's dreams were crushed when she learned she would never be able to be a Rockette. She never grew past 5'2. Raven on the other hand has his dreams crushed when his parents told him he was not allowed to go to space camp. They then shortly after sent his younger brother. After being influenced by her friend, Anna got a spray tan for a birthday party. Not only was her tan 10 shades too dark; but she also ended up saving $20 by only getting half her body tanned. Not the best decision she has ever made. CONGRATULATIONS DOLLY! Our plump pup champion goes to dolly. Dolly is a squishy 12 year old PUDDLE of a bulldog who sleeps 22 hours a day on her toddler bed throne. When she isn't sleeping, she is a ravenous eater! (regardless to her many allergies) Some of Dolly's favorite foods are, steak, spiral ham, cheese, pancakes, and literally WHATEVER she can get her chunky paws on. Dolly celebrated "A Dozen Years of Dolly" this past summer where she enjoyed an ice cream sundae. Congrats Dolly! Every week Anna and Raven invite a middle school student to participate in Middle Schooler News! They report the headline news and Anna and Raven comment on it! This week Helena joins the show and Anna and Raven find out what's going on in the world! It's Mommy's Margarita Friday! For all you do, and all you put up with this week, you earned yourself a reward! What did you do for your Mommy Margarita? Couples Court: Edward booked a solo vacation to go skiing in Park City, Utah for five days and his wife, Cheryl, is upset. He loves to ski and she doesn't, and they have two young children that don't ski. He's been wanting to go, has no one to go with, so he figured he would just go on his own. She thinks it's selfish for him take a solo vacation and it just feels weird. She doesn't have any interest in going with him but doesn't want him to go either. What do you think? James has a chance to win $200! All he has to do is answer more pop culture questions than Raven in Can't Beat Raven!

Something new is emerging in the world of digital dating. Chatfishing is a new word coined for when a person uses AI-generated messages to disguise or enhance their appeal on dating apps, only to show up with a completely different persona in real life! To get into the impact of it, Jennifer is joined by international relationship coach Hunt Etheridge and psychologist Noha El Khatib. This week on Ask a Matchmaker, Matchmaker Maria is joined by Erika Ettin, a renowned dating coach who specializes in navigating the world of online dating. Together, they break down essential advice for making meaningful connections in 2025. Erika shares creative tips on rethinking your dating profile title—why calling yourself an "RN" or "hospitality professional" might spark more interest than the traditional job title approach. They also dive into the emerging trend of value-driven dating. But what does "values" actually mean in dating, and how does it stack up against chemistry? Erika and Maria explain why both are essential and why giving people a chance on the first (and even second) date is worth it. Finally, they tackle the coffee date debate. While some claim it's a low-effort option, Maria and Erika challenge that idea, emphasizing the thoughtful planning required to pick a great spot with the right vibe. Plus, a fancy restaurant isn't automatically a "high-effort" date—effort comes from thoughtfulness, not price tags. Tune in for insightful, practical advice on modern dating and making every connection count! Maria has a book coming out! click here to preorder!!
