NY Times Best Selling Author and (The Tonight Show, Dr. Oz, GMA, The View, etc.) Drew Manning has been transforming lives for decades by adopting what has been one of the least prevalent tools in the fitness industry: empathy. And to seal the deal, he put on enough weight to explore the mind of those who know what it feels like carrying one of society's most stigmatized and misunderstood forms of baggage. Fat. In 2011, he intentionally gained 75 lbs to gain a better understanding of what his clients go through. An experience which he says which made him feel ‘truly humbled'. And just about a decade later, he went on to repeat the feat, even while going through life-changing events including rejecting a religion he'd built his life around, and a separation. The many valuable lessons learned through direct experience is an inherent part of what he now shares to spread his message through his social media platforms, speaking engagements, and podcast.  This episode is brought to you by:  www.holisticpianoacademy.com (Now part of www.holisticmusicianacademy.com) (Get a 25% discount on all courses as a podcast listener here) Listen to T.L.'s new album HERE Music by: www.everynowheremusic.com Produced by T.L. NYC-based, multiple-award winning composer, pianist an entrepreneur Noah Kellman, while most well known as the curator of a 100,000 plus online community of budding Jazz piano students and aficionados, is also the unassuming product of a lesser known and stunningly brave story of a young boy who has fought an (ongoing) battle with physical challenges which, at some of it's most intense phases in the past, has seen him seek the assistance of friends and family to accomplish tasks as simple as writing a school test or changing out of clothes. Even while being gaslighted for not having his 'priorities straight' when intent on saving the best of his physical energies for his deepest passion: playing the piano.   In this long-form conversation, we dive deep into the new paradigm of blurred lines between performance and pedagogy, understanding the significance of physical strength as a musician and best practices on audience-building in an age of viral videos, quick-fix campaigns and paid social media followers.   DONATE TO THE PODCAST HERE   This episode is brought to you by:  www.holisticpianoacademy.com (Now part of www.holisticmusicianacademy.com) Get a 25% discount on all courses as a podcast listener here Music by: www.everynowheremusic.com Produced by T.L. With an international touring career spanning over 22 countries, Kolkata-bred Guitarist/Composer Bodhisatwa Ghosh's body of work with his Avant-Garde/Jazz trio promises to be the building blocks of contemporary Indian music history. A theory supported by the mammothly adventurous nature of their upcoming endeavor as they prepare to collaborate with cutting-edge alternative/Jazz/Improvised Mimika Orchestra over the next few weeks. The first of its kind for an independent Indian band to undertake. I catch up with long-time friend and collaborator in an informal exchange on where it all began, the dichotomies of being a third-generation contemporary Indian musician, and dig deeper into the psyche of a musician whose work ethic strongly contradicts the apparent surface-level dystopian nature of the image it has been reputed to portray. Kolkata-born, Brooklyn-based drummer, engineer, producer, and entrepreneur Vishal Nayak qualifies for that minuscule list of Indian drummers who've built an artistic voice on their own terms completely devoid of stereotypical presumptions of what an 'Indian drummer' is supposed to sound like.   A graduate of Berklee College Of Music 2010, his collaborators are some of the most cutting-edge artists of North American and global contemporary adult pop music, the likes of which include Nick Hakim (as ongoing tour drummer), Hannah Cohen, Empress Of, Kimbra, MorMor , among many others.   His additional role as owner and operator of Black Lodge Recording and house engineer at Brooklyn's famed Figure8 Recording combine to establish what has been the first generation of truly global post-colonial Indian musicians who play a pivotal role in shaping the mindset of future generations who attempt the same, while navigating the multi-layered obstacles ranging from the socio-cultural, economical to the socio-political.   In this long-form conversation, we trace the beginnings of his musical journey as the curious boy from Central Calcutta sneaking into his mother's record collection, to the lost college student who had to redefine his artistic goals, to the pro-active adult musician who takes constant challenges of the immigrant in America in stride during the course of his promising and ongoing career.   This episode is brought to you by:  www.holisticpianoacademy.com (Now part of www.holisticmusicianacademy.com) New FREE mini-course 'The Songwriter Mindset': Enroll Here (Get a 25% discount on all courses as a podcast listener here) Music by: www.everynowheremusic.com Produced by T.L. Here's an awesome Roger Stallion Singlecut 5 bass. This is a quick sound demo with some backing tracks, a full review coming soon. For the recording I had the Pope preamp on and have the treble and bass boosted just a tiny bit, with both pickups on and no other EQ. I also used my A-desigs REDDI and my Universal Audio 1176 into my Apogee Duet for the Direct recording. The only effect is a slight amount of limiting during mixdown to keep everything even, other than that its just the super fat sounding bass tone. Roger Stallion SC5 Specifications: Flame Redwood top, 3 piece maple neck with light flame, Wenge fretboard and Ramp, Maple tone block, Mahogany body, Ulyate Humcancelling pickups, Pope Flex Core Preamp, and DR Pure Blue Strings.

I remember a few years ago I had had it up to here with all the bulky, complicated audio equipment cluttering up my house. I needed something simpler, faster, better. I called BH Photo Video in New York and got a salesman, Aaron, on the line who listened very carefully to me. At one point I said to him, "Listen, I am not a technical wizard. I don't want to spend 15 minutes adjusting knobs and faders just to be able to record something." "Of course not," he said. "You want to stay in a state of flow." He had me right there. I had never thought about that before, but he was absolutely right. That was why I hated all the complicated stuff – it pulled me out of my flow state. And if I wasn't in a flow state, I couldn't do a compelling recording. Then Aaron very patiently and thoroughly recommended a device called an Apogee Duet. It cost about four times what I had planned to spend. But the more he talked, the bigger a believer I became. I bought it, because I was in a state of total conviction. And years of experience has proven this was the right audio device for me. In fact, I'm using it right now, even as we speak. Copywriters can create conviction in their sales letters and ads the same way my salesman created it in me. And conviction can make all the difference with a hesitating buyer. We'll talk about that today. First, I'd like to mention this: Copy is powerful. You're responsible for how you use what you hear on this podcast. Most of the time, common sense is all you need. But if you make extreme claims… and/or if you're writing copy for offers in highly regulated industries like health, finance, and business opportunity… you may want to get a legal review after you write and before you start using your copy. My larger clients do this all the time. ▾ What conviction is • deep-seated belief that takes away all barriers to action • In a movie, you can see this in a major way in how the hero, eventually, gets to a point where they will STOP AT NOTHING to achieve their goal • In copy, it's seldom as dramatic as it is in a Hollywood movie. But it's just as important. Because conviction is what opens the door to a sale that sticks. ▾ Why it's important • When you have created conviction in your prospect, they are as ready to buy as they'll ever be. ▾ What happens when you create it • You put yourself, as a copywriter, in the perfect position to close the sale ▾ What happens when you don't • You might get the sale, but you risk getting buyer's remorse, which means: more refunds, and more customers from hell ▾ Where most people screw up • They do a "paint by numbers" approach to creating conviction rather than really working at it to make it powerful: research, selection, feeling, thinking • They don't create an authentic, believable conversation in their copy between themselves and the prospect ▾ Where you need to start: yourself ▾ If you don't believe in the product or service you're selling — to the point where you would buy it yourself, you've got three choices: • Convince yourself so you really do believe in it that much • Fake it. Pretend that you believe in it that much and write from that state of mind. (Not recommended, but we don't always end up writing the copy we would most like to write.) • Walk away. If you can't "mock up" a feeling of conviction in yourself, you're not doing yourself or your client (or your business) any favors. You shouldn't be writing the piece. • … but, assuming you can develop a solid feeling of conviction in yourself, here are some powerful techniques: ▾ Make it personal… relevant… meaningful • personal - Talk about how the product or service fits into the prospect's life, and what difference it will make. Aaron did that, and it made all the difference for me. This means you really have to understand the prospects and their lives, including their frustrations and why they have those frustrations. • relevant - don't give generic reasons and examples. Be specific. So it's believable. Remember again Aaron. • meaningful - Again, you need to really understand your prospect. Only then will you know what's meaningful to them. Aaron understands creative people and performers, and he knows getting in a state of flow and staying there is high on the priority list! • Use metaphors, analogies, comparisons Especially when you have something that's new or unfamiliar to your prospect. Compare it to something familiar. "It's the Swiss Army Knife of food processors." Someone who's into cooking will get that right away. • Write to a PERSON from YOURSELF Imagine someone you know, like, and care about. Write in a way that would create conviction in them. • Specifics rather than generalities Kim Phelan: Specifics spark emotions; (usually) generalities don't. • "Important trivialities" Find out the little details most people would never care about, but your prospect cares about a lot. Mentioning those can strengthen conviction.Download.

I wanted to showcase the A-Designs Audio KGB II Preamp/DI by playing a couple of basses through it. I used my La Bella Olinto P Bass and Colibri JBT J Bass both strung with DR Strings. I went straight into my Apogee Duet with input set at -10 and recording straight to Logic Audio. I did add some limiting and compression. Any slight overdrive is coming from the plug ins, the KGB II is such a killler warm amp and the Cinemag transformer is one of my favorites.

Super excited to get my hands on this awesome instrument. The Olinto P Bass by La Bella is as close to a real 63' Fender P Bass as you can get. Master Luthier, Mas Hino, handbuilds these instruments to 63' P Bass specs, and he nails it. This bass features a relic Alder body (white over sunburst finish), Maple neck, Rosewood fingerboard, a Mas Hino Scatterwound P Bass Pickup, Hipshot reverse tuners, Fender aged bride, and La Bella flat wound strings. This is a great sounding and playing instrument. I recorded the playing examples through my A-Designs Ventura and REDDI, and went directly to Logic Audio through my Apogee Duet. The playing examples are clean bounces with no Plug Ins or effects.

Here's the complete audio portion of the review video featuring the Colibrí Guitars and Basses Mexico Gedovius Fretless Singlecut bass and two sets of Tapewound style strings. I record, play and compare the Rotosound Tru Bass Black Nylon strings and the La Bella White Nylon Tapewound strings. Like I mention in the video, the bass came stock with the heavier gauge Rotosounds, so when I change to the lighter La Bella's I had to raise the action a bit with a piece of Card Stock, it sounds great, but with a proper set up for the new strings or a heavier set of La Bella's, it wound sound even better. The playing demos were recorded direct though my A-Designs Ventura and Apogee Duet straight into Logic Audio with no Plug Ins, just a clean bounce.
