There's a wrestling match going on in your brain's cockpit - and the Automatic Pilot needs to be defeated... your life depends upon it!!Yes, this week we're talking about something beyond the scope of the normal crazy mind, beyond the scope of a mind-on-auto: conscious deliberate choice.Conscious deliberate choice leads to the kind of conscious deliberate action that will change your life. And it is a lot simpler than it sounds because you only need to get used to making one conscious deliberate choice on now at a time - it's only your thinking mind that gets you too far ahead of yourself! So, follow the couple of steps we explore in this week's episode and, quite literally, see where it takes you - it'll take you to places that your thinking mind couldn't even begin to imagine. And, if you want to take a little step that is, in fact, a quantum leap, have a look at the Black Friday Special Offer for lifetime access to my Online Program The Psychology of Success by clicking the link on your podcast player. Your life's literally in your own hands.
We've heard it a million times: awareness is the key to change. But, how do you know if your current level of awareness is letting you down? In this episode, I share a checklist for indicators that your awareness may need some work as well as 2 proven tools to increase your awareness no matter how good—or lacking -- it may be. Do you feel like you're so overbooked that taking time to breathe feels too much? Does life feel like one big to-do list? These may be the effects of the hustle culture we currently live in, and we just can't help but feel the pressure and fall into “comparisonitis.” Diving deep into the various conversations surrounding mental health today, Whitney Lauritsen sits down with Shonda Moralis, MSW, LCSW—a Life Balance Coach, Therapreneur, Author, and Podcast Host. In this episode, they talk about the stigma around men's mental health and how the culture that perpetuates it connects with the nature/nurture discussion. They also talk about the importance of mindfulness, savoring moments, handling negative self-talk, and distinguishing between guilt and shame. Guiding you further to learn how to prioritize yourself, Shonda and Whitney then discuss the growth mindset, therapy and coaching, and being assertive. This conversation is packed with great wisdom and more, all to help you step out of automatic pilot and into a different way of being.DON'T FORGET TO BREATHE: 5-Minute Mindfulness for Busy Women – Beat Stress and Find Calm Anytime, Anywhere: https://bookshop.org/a/17878/9781615199075Love the show? Link to bioRxiv paper: http://biorxiv.org/cgi/content/short/2022.11.13.516302v1?rss=1 Authors: van Timmeren, T., Dzinalija, N., O'Doherty, J. P., de Wit, S. Abstract: People often have good intentions but fail to adhere to them. Implementation intentions, a form of strategic planning, can help people to close this intention-behavior gap. Their effectiveness has been proposed to depend on the mental formation of a stimulus-response association between a trigger and target behavior, thereby creating an instant habit. If implementation intentions do indeed lead to reliance on habitual control, then this may come at the cost of reduced behavioral flexibility. Furthermore, we would expect a shift from recruitment of corticostriatal brain regions implicated in goal-directed control towards habit regions. To test these ideas, we performed a functional MRI study in which participants received instrumental training supported by either implementation or goal intentions, followed by an outcome-revaluation to test reliance on habitual versus goal-directed control. We found that implementation intentions led to increased efficiency during training, as reflected in higher accuracy, faster reaction times, and decreased engagement of the anterior caudate. However, implementation intentions did not reduce behavioral flexibility when goals changed during the test phase, nor did it affect the underlying corticostriatal pathways. Additionally, this study showed that slips of action towards devalued outcomes are associated with reduced activity in brain regions implicated in goal-directed control. In conclusion, our behavioral and neuroimaging findings suggest that strategic if-then planning does not lead to a shift from goal-directed towards habitual control. So much of our life is lived on automatic pilot. Learned responses and behaviors that do not serve as well.
I have lived that it is possible to make changes in my own life – moving from automatic pilot to creating each day with intention. And it is not necessary to throw out the baby with the bath water. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/wendy-mcgean/message
Yes, there's a Normal Crazy Person living with you. They're inside your head, have been your traveling companion, got you to where you are. But what got you to where you are won't get you to where you want to go. Full stop!We encourage this Normal Crazy Person (aka The Conceptual Self) to derail us every day because we use our Automatic Pilot every day - I explain just how this happens in this week's episode. So, it is inevitable that we "fall off the horse"... every day. But, falling off the horse is an opportunity to get back up, dust yourself off and start over. Losing your mind is an opportunity to realise that you've lost your mind and, in the process, find it... truly. So let's be thankful for the fact that we stumble and fall. Let's embrace the opportunity to learn a little more about who we really are, go a little further and discover who we might really be and what we can truly achieve.

Craig's guest is Paul Eisenstein, Publisher of TheDetroitBureau.com. The two discuss recent lengthy power outages for tens of thousands of Metro Detroit residents, and whether or not the uncertainty about the reliability of the local electric grid may impact people's faith in emerging electric vehicle technology. Will the government's push for electric vehicles force utilities to upgrade the existing infrastructure? Also, the two discuss how the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has begun an investigation into EV pioneer Tesla's "Automatic Pilot" systems, which have now been linked to a series of accidents.
Welcome to the 44th episode of the Give A Heck Podcast! Join Dwight Heck and his guest, Michael Landau, as they talk about learning mindful movement to create a healthy habit of physical activity. Michael is a Feldenkrais practitioner, a professional musician, a former university teacher, and an energetic healer. Since the beginning of his career, he found it beneficial to explore ways to perfect and optimize movement. So now, Michael teaches mindful movement to help his clients become the best version of themselves. After all, he believes that even a tiny dose of awareness in your daily activities can go a long way in facilitating growth. In this episode, you'll learn about: l How movement is an infinite doorway into the way “you” work, both in mind and body l What “mindful movement” is and why people should care to learn this practice l The exploration of habitual patterns and the different levels they can still develop into l How age does not matter when developing mobility and learning mindful movement l Why being aware of even the slightest movement is essential in connecting with yourself l And much more! ~ About Michael Landau: While living in Austria for several decades, Michael Landau sustained and experienced tremendous pain as a musical performer and instructor, so much so that he experienced chronic back pain. So now, Michael continues to design and structure his wellness program called “From Stiff To Nimble,” which is the byproduct of COVID-19. “From Stiff to Nimble” is an online course that addresses focused movement, mobility, and movement interventions to help people become more conscious of the need to move. In this program, Michael made it his mission to give busy people with sedentary lives the opportunity to find joy and pleasure in movement by being more able, flexible, and lively through a tiny daily dose of “movement with awareness.” ~ You can find Michael Landau on… Website: https://www.persistent-growth.com/ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/_michael_landau_/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/micky.landau Facebook Community Page: https://www.facebook.com/michael.landau.persistent.growth ~ Connect with Dwight Heck! What might happen if you believed each thought you had over the course of one day to be true? . Automatic Pilot Mode is the human experience of being lost in thought, and not realizing that you're in the process of thinking about thoughts. While on Automatic Pilot Mode, our lives become narrow and cage-like, and inflexible patterns of behavior are the unavoidable result. Often, when someone defines their identity by the content of their mindless thoughts, it will drive their actions – even if those actions aren’t consistent with their personal values. . Often we believe we should control every aspect of thinking. This mindset can leave us feeling exhausted, confused, and like we're at fault for the stream of thoughts that are happening without our will. Tune in and learn how to step back from mindless thinking. . Looking to further your mindfulness practice? Check out the Mental Events mindfulness journal. It’s dedicated to examining the workability of the mind’s proposed solutions to problems, and offers an opportunity to step back from giving over your life to negative thoughts. . I sit down with Jim Crickard on the rooftop of the Tara Building before his Therapy Sessions gig, as part of the First Fortnight Festival. We chat about poetry, Panti Bliss, First Fortnight Festival, Drag and Poetry and plenty of other great things. Jim Crickard’s poetry is camp and entertaining work with a sassy social-political edge. His work explores themes such as culture, sexuality and identity. In 2019 he was selected by Poetry Ireland for the inaugural Versify series, and performed to a sold out show at Dublin Fringe Festival. He came second in the 2019 All Ireland Poetry Slam Final. In 2018, he won the Cuirt Spoken Word Platform and was awarded a slot to perform at Electric Picnic. In January, 2020 he will be performing in Cork and Dublin with the First Fortnight festival alongside acclaimed poet, Stephen James Smith. He was shortlisted for the 2018 O'Bheal International Five Words Competition, and has work published in Automatic Pilot, A New Ulster, and Contemporary Poetry. He can be found on Facebook. With Being Earnest, I hope to create a space away from the noise of everyday life and distraction. I hope to offer a place, to listen, to share, to be engaged and hopefully inspired. Growth is the result of expansion and contraction. However, automatic pilot is a sign that we have taken our hands off the wheel. Where this is occurring, may require attention.
This is my welcome Podcast. This is where I will tell you all about my method, steps, and purpose of this podcast. We can only face our fears and overcome the negative voice in our head when we become fully aware of it and face it head on. In this podcast I will talk about our habit of being on automatic pilot. We spend much of our lives in a trance and we're not even aware of it. We have roughly 70,00 thoughts a day and 90% of them we had the day before. Once we wake up to our mind we can approach it mindfully and stop reacting to every thought that we have. Don't believe everything your think. :)
The second volume of [Series: Scratching Below the Surface] begins with a question asked by Rewell in a past talk. Prior to the eating of the fruit recorded in Genesis chapter 3, we ask, " Was Adam and Eve only functioning automatically?" Automatically meaning acting without deliberate thought, without high functioning mental capacities, moving without intention. Rewell likened this functioning to worker ants- involuntary, instinctual movement. This notion is derived from the verse which says "the eyes of both were opened." We begin our exploration and study in Part 1 of "The Questions of Life." We end our talks inquiring whether or not we can say Adam and Eve knew good. [Series: Scratching Below the Surface] is not a preorchestrated, meticulously designed series with a set agenda in place. Our regular talks are taking us on an incredible journey together, a brotherhood, a fellowship in which we have been searching for understanding, discernment, and wisdom, in one accord. While this series will be more structured than our usual free form style, our direction was provoked from past discussions, musings, and contemplation. We do not know explicitly where our journey will take us, nor what the destination will be, because the journey is not mapped our and one we embark together.

No matter how tolerant you may think you are, we here at The 404 Special are willing to wager that there's at least one section of society you hate with a vengeance. Lawyers? Chavs? Builders? The Boss? The significant other / ex-other? 50 Cent? They're all here, courtesy of Steve Newman & Friends, Nice Peter, Carla Ulbrich, Paul & Storm, Jay Foreman, Automatic Pilot, The Legendary Ten Seconds, The Volume Brothers, Tony Forte, Chub Creek Music, Dislocated Boner, and Tom Smith.
