Alli Webb transitioned from working in hair salons to creating a mobile blowout service, catering to clients' homes for $40 per session. She connected with potential clients through a Yahoo group, generating significant demand. To expand her operations, she and her brother, Michael Landau, secured $300,000 in funding to open the first Drybar salon in Brentwood, California, in 2010. The salon focused exclusively on wash and blowout services, quickly surpassing initial operational goals. Within a decade, Drybar grew to over 150 locations across the U.S. In 2020, Webb sold the brand's product line for $255 million and in 2021, WellBiz Brands acquired the franchise rights to Drybar salons. — There is a daily routine created by Michael Landau that is different every day. A habit of moving with awareness is what he wants to learn. The attitude is more important than the action. This involves slowing down, observing closely, and stopping the rat race. By reducing effort, increasing efficiency and not hurting yourself, you are giving yourself the opportunity to improve. We rarely take the time to do those things. Our bodies are not well-cared for by most of us. Our bodies constantly send us tiny feedback messages, which we usually ignore. The nervous system seems to need a reminder of how to listen to itself. When we were young, we all mastered this art. Lifting our heads, rolling over, crawling, and walking all came from this experience. Playing, listening, and trying many options and variations, we were attentive and curious. Learning organically takes place in this way. As adults, we seem to have lost sight of this fine and subtle art in our busy lives. It is difficult for us to reexamine our habitual patterns and take a break from them. Unlike so many of us, Michael has learned to balance the need to explore, to play, to slow down and try new things with the lack of time and peace of mind he suffers from. Creating a habit is the key to success here. His research showed that short breaks - a couple of minutes - during which you get up, stand up, make some deliberate slow movements, and then sit back down at the computer are actually quite effective. As long as you do it every day: three minutes. A tiny habit can have a huge impact. To make it manageable, you make it tiny. To make it effective, you must make it constant — and big changes begin to happen! Valeria interviews Michael Landau — He has been a Feldenkrais practitioner since 1994. This means that he teaches Mindful Movement, and uses the minute exploration of movement to create well-being and growth. He teaches people to take better care of themselves by developing finer and more precise awareness of themselves as they move through life. As the pandemic forced him to move all his teaching activities online, he developed a daily online practice of movement with awareness that is only three minutes long. It started as an experimental venture into the unknown, and it became a stunning success. Benefits build up and accumulate over time if you give yourself those three minutes each day. Creating the daily habit of stepping out of the hamster wheel, slowing down and looking at yourself with gentleness and care has proven to be highly transformative. Michael was a professional musician and university professor for 30 years. He has navigated through a long path of Buddhistic practice, shamanic studies, and all sorts of personal growth and healing processes. All these experiences inform his teachings and turn them into a holistic approach of self care, wellness and growth. To learn more about Michael Landau and his work, please visit: persistent-growth.com — This podcast is a quest for well-being, a quest for a meaningful life through the exploration of fundamental truths, enlightening ideas, insights on physical, mental, and spiritual health. The inspiration is Love. The aspiration is to awaken new ways of thinking that can lead us to a new way of being, being well.
Ein Hintergrundgespräch in der Republik Moldau über gelebte Nächstenliebe in Österreich, der Ukraine und in Moldau - mit Caritas-Präsident Michael Landau und dem Wiener Caritasdirektor Klaus Schwertner.
When I was a kid, my room was often a mess. Clothes on the floor, toys everywhere. My mom would try to stay on me to keep it clean, but it was mostly a losing battle for her. What usually inspired me to clean up, however, was when I couldn't find something. Then I knew it was time to take inventory and get a bit more organized (for the time being, at least). Data management isn't much different - especially with large unstructured data lakes. Not only are there potentially millions - or billions - of files, but much of that data is redundant, unnecessary or obsolete. The problem is, if you haven't been keeping your data sets clean, you are now stuck with the arduous task of finding out what is in your data. This week on the podcast, Cecile Kellam and Michael Landau join me to discuss how Cloud Data Sense can quickly and easily help you find out what is in your data, with the end goal of tidying up your messy data sets.

Nesse show receberá parceiros de longa data: o talentoso vocalista Pedro Quental e o grande gaitista Jefferson Gonçalves. Inte- grou a All Star Blues Band na Rock Street no Rock In Rio (2011).

¡Bienvenidos a Los años salvajes!." Tracklist: 1-Vamos a lograrlo 2-Lo mejor de nuestras vidas 3-Shut Up 4-La música de los sueños de tu juventud 5-Caballo de Troya 6-Sin mí en vos 7-Lili and Drake 8-Encuentros cercanos 9-Beer Blues (con Elvis Costello) 10-Los años salvajes (con Fabiana Cantilo)

While this natural eclecticism has become a hallmark of Haque's music, it was repeated visits to Von Freeman's Chicago jam sessions that gave Haque a grounding in the Chicago blues and jazz traditions. The 1981 recipient of North Texas State University's Jazz Guitar Scholarship, Haque spent a year studying with renowned jazz guitarist and pedagogue Jack Peterson. Fareed's growing interest in the classical guitar led him to transfer to Northwestern University, where he completed his studies in classical guitar under David Buch, John Holmquist, and Anne Waller.Soon after his transfer to NU, Haque came to the attention of multi-instrumentalist Howard Levy and joined his latin-fusion group Chevere. Thru Levy, Haque was introduced to Paquito D'Rivera and began a long and fruitful relationship with the Cuban NEA Jazz Master. Sting invited Haque to join the label and he released 2 critically acclaimed recordings, Voices Rising and Manresa. Haque toured briefly with Sting, including notable appearances at The Montreux Jazz Festival, as well as NBC's Michelob Presents Sunday Night with David Sanborn, but his own career demands led Haque in other directions.Haque has been featured on WTTW's ArtBeat and Chicago Tonight, Ben Sidran's New Visions, Michelob Presents Sunday Night with David Sanborn on NBC, his own Lonesome Pines special for PBS, and on BET cable jazz channel. Fareed has twice been selected as Talent Deserving Wider Recognition in Downbeat Magazine. In 1989, Haque also joined the faculty at Northern Illinois University as professor of jazz and classical guitar. He continues to teach at NIU to this day. After a short stint at Warner Bros. recording Majestad (unreleased and featuring John Patitucci, Michael Landau, Russel Ferrante, Grazinha, Lenny Castro, and Carlos Vega!), Bruce Lundvall signed Haque to the legendary Bluenote Records. Numerous classical recitals, as well as appearances with the Vermeer Quartet and many symphonies across the US and abroad, added to an incredible diversity of performances during this period.Thru Belden, Haque was invited to join forces with Joe Zawinul as part of his Zawinul Syndicate. The group proved to be one of Joe's best and most eclectic. Included were percussionist and vocalist Arto Tuncboyacian, drummer Paco Sery, bassist Mathew Garrison, along with Haque on Guitar and Electric Guitar. A year of extensive touring brought Haque closer to his Jazz/Rock roots. In 2001, Haque's interest in jam bands and the jam scene led him to co-found the jam super-group Garaj Mahal featuring Kai Eckhardt, Eric Levy, and Alan Hertz. This began 10 years of extensive touring across the US, performing in excess of 200 shows per year. Haque also joined George Brooks' group Summit, featuring Zakir Hussain and Steve Smith. Episode Notes Episode 7.... who would have thunk it? We continue our verbal onslaught. This week, we dive right into a Holdsworth quote, paraphrasing, where he mentions the goal for him playing live is to not just regurgitate what he practiced, but to play something he never even tried before. How do you practice for that? We also talk about a hypothesis of Tim's that's surely to get a few people upset, but not intentionally, haha.... Essentially there seems to be 3 primary types of uses of amplification in the guitar world. Type 1: Using amplification solely to make the sound of your guitar louder. You don't want the amplifier to color the tone of your instrument much, if at all, and you're really not working with the amp in any particular way, you just want it to make you louder. Type 2: The amp is just as important as the guitar, your instrument is the guitar and amp, and one without the other might as well be clicking keys on a keyboard. The amp has to be a certain volume/feel... do certain things when you roll the tone and volume knobs around, expressive kind of playing. Type 3: More or you create sounds. It doesn't so much matter what amp, though the amp itself (like a Mesa sound) might be one of the sounds you want. This is the person who crafts sounds to be very specific. It really doesn't matter if its modelling or an amp, as long as the end result sounds a certain way. Everyone, for the most part, is a little bit of each category, but most tend to fall into one camp more than the other. This has a lot to do with what stage volume you need to... and why different players have different takes on the stage situation. We also talk a bit about playing in Pit orchestras and all kinds of other stuff. Some players mentioned worth checking out: Allan Holdsworth, Chris Crocco, Gustavo Assil Brasil, Stephen Aron, Steve Vai (again, haha), Wayne Krantz, Michael Landau... and probably others I'm forgetting (sorry). https://woodairmetal.pinecast.co/ RSS Feed: https://pinecast.com/feed/woodairmetal https://www.facebook.com/woodairmetal https://www.timmirth.com/ ***Track playing is "Impressions" by John Coltrane : solo by Tim Mirth, with a killer Abersold backing track....
