#notgrunge. This week after many requests to do so, Chris and Ethan chat about Counting Crows, one of the more prominent bands from a different neighborhood of 90s music. The pair discuss the allure of the band, why they are polarizing for many, and get into Adam Duritz's ability to write and inspire. The music world mourned the recent passing of the legendary Neil Peart. For decades the rabid fanbase of the almighty Rush spanned not only rock fans in general but included 80s normies to death metallers and punks of today. Now is the time to properly pay tribute to the Canadian wonder boys with a traditional Spotlight episode. To help us we've enlisted the expertise of one Mark Buell. Mr. Buell is the Regional Bureau Director for the North American Internet Society. More importantly, he's been a good friend of ours since we were a mere 8 yrs old. Even more importantly, he's been a Rush aficionado for four decades!! So we're stoked to discuss all things Rush including the legacy of Mr. Peart, all our faves in the Rush discog and their illustrious career in general. We just wish it was under better circumstances. Around here Rush will always be the Rush of the music world. This Episode is sponsored by Trve Kvlt Coffee. Summon the coffee demons to possess yourself a cup today! Welcome to 2018, comrades! In case you were wondering, Bob's resolution for this new year is to tighten up his editing time frames so that we're not playing Christmas themed songs in January and Anarchopunk is pretty much perfect, so he has nothing to improve upon, thus no resolutions were established. We're really hoping that your new year's resolution was to listen to more punk news podcasts! If so, you're really gonna dig this one! In this installment, we're featuring a menagerie of international punk bands. We've got French punks, British punks, South African punks, Canadian punks and we even sprinkled in some American punks with an interview from the Los Angeles based grouch punk act, Spanish Love Songs. In this special edition of Dying Scene Radio, we sent the boys down to Orange County for the SoCal leg of Fat Mike's Punk in Drublic Festival. If that isn't enough to pique your interest (although we doubt it wasn't), Bob also managed to snag a quick interview with the always dapper Goldfinger front man, Mr. John Feldmann as he made his way to the stage! Remember when we had a semi-regular podcast that featured new music from emerging acts, news and stories from around the Scene and band/artist interviews? Yea...those were simpler times... But fret not, faithful readers/listeners, since reboots are all the rage these days, we've returned with a new and improved version of Dying Scene Radio! That's right gang, we've done a complete overhaul! With two, all new hosts, a sweet new streamlined format for more cohesion, and far, far less vitriolic politics (because political talk blows ass), we know you're going to dig DSR 2.0! For our debut episode, we sent one of our hosts, AnarchoPunk to Studio City to meet up with Kevin Besignano and Derik Envy from Los Angeles' premiere punk rock act True Rivals. Not only did he get the skinny on their new EP, but he also recorded an incredible acoustic set with 'em!

This week on Episode 63 of Bobby Pickles' Podcast (Dying Scene Radio #8), Bobby Pickles confirms his pirate status, while talk immediately turns to tech news, and Bob Noxious admits he has worn a smart-watch since the age of three, giving a new meaning to the term “early adoption”. But the Apple Watch isn’t very i-Punk; therefore, all the other little boys and girls always wondered why Bob was so overwhelmed with the concept of time. While discussing this week’s music news, Bob’s darkside shows it’s grubby little hand again, as he ponders Bobby’s Internet browser history, and what people would think about his search habits. Bobby erroneously corrects Bob for mentioning a band called Darlington, who was recently on a split 7″ with The Prozacs. Referring to the band in the plural form, Darlingtons, Bobby goes on to claim that Bob cannot remember what he says from week to week and inquires if he has ever taken Prozac. Both Bobs do not know the ailments for which Prozac is even treated. Bob adds “Prozac” to the list of items he prefers to keep out of his search history, then he decides to start a crowd funding campaign to have his co-host, Bobby, killed. Bobby’s impeccable journalism once again shines through, as he brings up the new Flatliners video and 7″ single, which they released last week. Then his pirate-blood really becomes evident when Bobby fires shots across the bow, claiming Bob does not want to include the song in this week’s playlist. Bob argues that he is exempt, presenting his evidence of having played the new Flatliners song “Fangs” on last week’s show. Bobby lets him off the hook. Bobby mentions a new video recently released by pop-punk band, New Found Glory, who Bob presumes to have found a “new harder edge” as Bob continues by fantasizing about Andrew WK killing them all with a chainsaw in the video. Bobby discusses the upcoming release of The American Dream Died, which is the long awaited new record by veteran NYHC band, Agnostic Front. Bobby makes a slanderous accusation of Bob while covering the news of Roger Miret and company, but we’ll just let the listeners decide who’s telling the truth. BAND SPOTLIGHT: ¡La Vasa! The Bobs reach out to Santa Barbara, CA thrash punk band, ¡La Vasa! – Bobby asking right away about the weather in Southern California. Preparing for the CD release party for their new record Quest, the band speaks candidly from the warm confines of their rehearsal studio about its origins and how they started from a craigslist ad. The Bobs uncover that new bass player, Kevin Johnson, is a former DyingScene.com writer – Bob encouraging LeftCoastKJ to contribute articles to the website again. As the show progresses in poor taste, Bobby announces that everything runs “in threes” as he mentions three notable deaths, which took place this week in the punk rock community. The dark clouds continue to accumulate overhead as the two ponder starting a “Celebrity Death Pool” until they realize that there were already three; therefore, the contest is now closed. Bobby reads The Queers statement about the recent passing of their former drummer, Tulu, in the voice of a “Miami Socialite”, while Bob insinuates his undignified co-host sounds more like 70′s icon, Supafly. Bob cops to having discovered that there is a band from Canada called “Bobnoxious” and declares them the “third-worst thing to have ever been produced in Canada”, running a tight race with Nickleback and Justin Beiber (not necessarily in that order). Bob loses two “punk rock points” by confessing to have watched the new Nickleback video at Bobby’s mother’s house, as Bobby secretly plots to destroy Bob someday, opting not publishing his intentions like stupid Bob. Bob declares that the band is still shit and to not waste your time watching it (we all know that’s a black flag). Bobby mentions that he will be interviewing Blag Dahlia of The Dwarves this weekend at Bowery Electric for the launch of their East Coast tour. Bob encourages him to treat Blag to shots, so that Blag will dress him. Tune in next week to see if Pickles can pull it off! This week on Episode 62 of Bobby Pickles' Podcast (Dying Scene Radio #7), the Bobs forgo the traditional format (no BAND SPOTLIGHT) in lieu of conducting two key interviews with Justin Thirsk of Chaos Delivery Machine and Bill Manspeaker of Green Jellÿ, respectively. Per usual, the two compare notes about the weather (Bob thrives in a sub-tropical paradise while Bobby survives yet another week of frozen, mucky hell), Bobby's girlfriend breaks up with him because of, among other things, the podcast, then Bob insists that his co-host settle for a “nice, vegan chick” instead of a “punk rock girl”, and Bob voices his displeasure with Bobby’s constant weekly updates about Blink 182. Regarding the Bobs’ interview with Justin Thirsk, Bob begins with an apology for giving bad information the week prior about Justin’s brother, Jason, who was the original bass player of Pennywise and the author of their iconic anthem, Bro Hymn. Justin takes the Bobs on a trip down memory lane about his former band 98 Mute and explains the origins of his new recording project, Chaos Delivery Machine. Bob compares Korean food to a Japanese band celebrating 20 years together, then mentions Burger King when another veteran punk rock band becomes the topic of conversation (Bob obviously needs to eat better before the show). Bob goes on to explain "Crossover" to Bobby, then finishes his thought by comparing punk and metal music to Reese's Peanut Butter Cups. Bob invites Bobby to visit Florida for his birthday, then tries to convince him to move back to the Sunshine State, insisting that all New Yorkers are "mean and nasty" - recalling his time frequenting the state as a youth and being punched in the face for an off-color remark. Bobby refuses to give up the other reasons why his girlfriend dumped him. The Bobs both agree that they have "Type A" personalities, then the two “A-holes” connect with Green Jellÿ founder and frontman, Bill Manspeaker, in an online video chat. In true form, Bill shares the link with his fans who proceed to flood the chat room like circus freaks aiming to impress their ringleader - the almighty Cowgod himself. The Bobs attempt to reign in some of Bill’s adoring fans but bedlam ensues (the FULL INTERVIEW can be found HERE on the DSR YouTube page). This week on Episode 58 of Bobby Pickles' Podcast (Dying Scene Radio #3), Bob Noxious and Bobby Pickles settle into their roles while passively aggressively trying to one-up each other. No one’s eating hot dogs at Coney Island on this episode of the podcast, but there’s plenty of hamburgers and snow in New York City. Bobby takes in a “bum” from off of the streets and mentions that, “they can be quite helpful for the budding entrepreneur.” If only they could edit audio clips… Bob recalls watching the World Series with Bad Religion’s Brett Guerewitz while challenging the podcast listeners to send Bobby their Top 10 Most Important Punk Bands for him to study up on. Bob then sits down and chats with the infamous Andrew WK before his performance in St. Petersburg, FL. They discuss recording with LMFAO, self-motivation, how the legendary death metal band Obituary helped form Andrew’s band…and what else? Partying! Bobby reports on the week’s punk rock news then professes his love for 80′s music icons, Hall & Oates. Much debate ensues on whether Green Day has, or has not, been inducted in to the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame. Bobby turns to his bum Tony, who is quickly proving his worth as a bona-fide fact checker. BAND SPOTLIGHT: Crime City This week’s BAND SPOTLIGHT artist is Vancouver-based side project punkers, Crime City, who recently released their self-titled debut EP. Three out of the four capable canucks have a “meeting with the Bobs” to discuss the band’s origins, their obvious comparisons to Propagandhi and the problems faced by Canadian musicians wanting to tour throughout the United States. Bob also speaks with punk-author, Bob Suren, who will be releasing his first book entitled “Crate Digger: An Obsession with Punk Records” in June 2015 through Microcosm Publishing. The music inspires the memories in this memoir about growing up as a punk rocker, as told through the author’s record collection. “There’s nothing more punk than podcasting!” – Bobby Pickles The Offspring – Coming For You HeWhoCannotBeNamed – Happy Suicide Chris Barrows – Be My Girl Andrew WK – Party Hard Andrew WK Interview Spraynard – Haulin’ Oates White Stain – Hide & Seek Blowfuse – Behind The Wall Pears – Forever Sad Autogestión – Somos War On Women – Servilia Crime City Interview Crime City – The Human Condition Senses Fail – All You Need Is Already Within You Death By Stereo – Neverending Kill The President – Citizens Bob Suren Interview Murder-Suicide Pact – Weight of Words FULL INTERVIEWS on the Dying Scene Radio youtube channel.
