Ep 192 Adam Keen – The Breath: A Journey Through Yoga www.keenonyoga.com | @adam_keen_ashtanga Adam Keen the profound significance of breath in yoga practice. He delves into various aspects of breathing, including the traditional ujjayi breath, the role of the diaphragm, and the concept of bandha. The conversation also covers the importance of vinyasa in creating rhythm and awareness in practice, as well as the distinctions between pranayama and modern breath work. Throughout the discussion, Adam emphasizes the need for personal experimentation and understanding in one's yoga journey, particularly regarding breath control and its impact on emotional and physical well-being. · Breath is fundamental to life and spirituality. · Ujjayi breath has evolved from a heavier to a lighter practice. · The diaphragm is the primary muscle used in breathing. · Bandha helps in controlling breath and energy flow. · Vinyasa creates a rhythm that mirrors diaphragmatic movements. · Pranayama is more about breath control than rhythmic breathing. · Breath reflects emotional states and should not be forced into equality. · Yoga practice is an individual experiment. · Understanding the diaphragm enhances pranayama effectiveness. · Breath work can stimulate or calm the nervous system.
In this mediation practice we will be seated in Virasana, so please use a brick or prop to sit with Sthira/Stablitiy and Sukham/Comfort. We will be preforming Bhramari Pranayama, Kapalabhati Kriya, Bahya Kumbhaka, Maha Mudra and Bandha which will evolve into point to point breathing with HUM SA Kriya. The preamble will give you more meaning and purpose to the mediation practice and the practice maps out the ability to guide the mind into a deeper state of meditation, Dhyana. Dhyana, meditation is the 7th limb of the 8 Limb Path of the Yoga Sutras. Meditation is a tool, to use the mind to go beyond the mind. It is the clarity of mind to abide in the timelessness of now, present in the here and now. An uninterrupted flow of consciousness toward that object. The goal of practice according to the Yoga Sutras is 1.2 Citta Vritti Nirodha, stilling the roaming tendencies of the mind. The point is to focus on a point. To read more and to practice with Zephyr Wildman, click here. To support Zephyr Yoga Podcast, donate here. Hosted on Acast.

Practicing yoga daily can help you stay in shape and maintain a healthy body and mind. However, the really interesting thing about yoga is that it can also help you create a healthy and balanced investment portfolio. In our third episode of ‘Yoga for your mind, body, and portfolio' podcast, we discuss how the bandha sarvangasan and the trikonasan can help you create a flexible portfolio even while you stay focused on your financial goals. Key takeaways· The bandha sarvangasan or the bridge pose makes your body flexible, something which is important for your investment portfolio as well. As the investment climate and your personal circumstances change, it is important for you to be able to change your portfolio as well.· The trikonasan focuses on three elements that help you achieve the desired balance. A Strong Yoga Core helps create core stability. Once you program core stability into your "mind-body system", you will experience a profound steadiness in your life - physical steadiness, as well as energetic and mental steadiness, leading to balance and clarity. A strong and stable core consists of all those muscles that support and stabilize the abdominal region of your body. Your front, back and sides need to be worked in a conscious way to "switch-on" that stability. Further to physical stability, yogis work on creating openness, linked to energetic and mental stability, through Bandha (locks) and an expanded awareness to these. From my own experience, core steadiness is profound, and hence this class was created to help you find steadiness in your life. Namaste. A Jivamukti Yoga class with emphasis on working your core gently. Once a stable core is "programmed into mind-body" system", the yogi will experience a profound steadiness in their lives - physical steadiness, as well as energetic and mental steadiness, i.e. balance and clarity. The core can mean many things to different people. Some believe a "6-pack" is equivalent to a strong core, but this is simply not true, as a 6 -pack alone will not stabilise the lumbar/abdominal region of your physical body (strong belly muscles alone will do the opposite). A strong and stable core consists of all those muscles that support and stabilise the abdominal region of your body, i.e. front, back and sides need to be worked in a conscious way to activate and create that stability. Further to physical stability, yogis work on creating openness, and energetic and mental stability, through Bandha (locks) and an expanded awareness to these. From my own experience, this steadiness is profound, and hence this class was created to help others find steadiness in their lives. Books available in PDF & Print here: https://www.ashtangayogaorangecounty.com/books Chanting & Studying, 3rd Chapter of the Yoga Sūtras, Vibhūti Pāda: Chapters 1 & 2 lay the basis for the entire yogic process. Chapter 1 lays the primary foundational stone of clarity & clam. Chapter 2 gives the secondary step of self-analysis and asks us to dive deeply into the study & practice of the first four limbs: Yama, Niyama, Āsana & Prāṇāyāma. Once well established in these limbs, Chapter 3 presents an organized approach to our practice of self-analysis. This third chapter, Vibhūti Pāda, directs our attention to certain aspects of ourselves. First on the list: Develop the art of listening without superimposing our own thoughts on to what is heard. Patañjali also takes us step-by-step through various places in the body. All this to assist our process of becoming more purposeful and more awakened in our lives. Chapter 3, Vibhūti Pāda provides us with a checklist for thoroughness in Rāja Yoga. These classes always express the Sūtras in a practical manner relevant to the modern Yogī / Yoginī.
