I snatched a rare chance to connect with Kobus van der Merwe of Wolfgat and sit down for a chat. He was taking a break in Yzerfontein - halfway from Paternoster to Cape Town, and we met at Rosmead Bakery to record a show. I long ago joined the legion of his fans, when my wife and I enjoyed the tasting menu at his parents' general dealer store 'Oep ve Koep' around the time we were running The Table at De Meye. Kobus is easy to admire - his laser-focus on the simple preparation of hyper-local ingredients and a commitment to telling local food and origin stories have launched him (rather reluctantly it turns out) onto a global stage. I so enjoyed our conversation, yet there was so much more to unpack. Perhaps we can continue gabbing about food and heritage and C Louis Liepoldt and Eat Out Award criteria and the double-edged sword of acclaim another time soon.Wolfgat websiterussel@rwm2012(dot)comSend us a text On Instagram @a_table_inthecorner Cover image sketched by Courtney Cara Lawson All profile portraits by Russel Wasserfall unless otherwise credited Title music: 'In Time' by Olexy via Pixabay

Czego w niej szukamy i jakich słów można używać, by opisać swoje doświadczenie czytelnicze? Czy poetka zawsze jest tylko poetką? A może osoby piszące wiersze pełnią dziś różnorodne role? Książki, o których mówimy w podkaście, to: Marit Kapla, „Osebol”, tłum. Justyna Czechowska, Ossolineum; „Dymy. Antologia tekstów slamerskich”, red. I absolutely believe they do occur, but I think they get blamed unfairly for a lot of wounded and lost game. Mission impossible: SANDF stretched in DRC, ignoring porous borders, Mozambique risk - DA MP Kobus Marais

The South African National Defence Force (SANDF) has come under fire from opposition parties for what they term ‘reckless' foreign mission deployments. This follows an incident where two soldiers were killed and three injured by a mortar bomb at their base in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), where they are part of a peacekeeping force. Currently, 2900 South African soldiers are engaged in combat against M23 rebels in the country. Reports have also surfaced in recent days of an expired Denel contract for helicopter maintenance. In an interview with Biznews, the DA Shadow minister for Defence and Military Veterans Kobus Marais emphasised the “irresponsible” deployment of soldiers in the Eastern DRC citing an overstretched and underfunded SANDF with outdated prime mission equipment. Marais exposed challenges in maintaining essential equipment, particularly helicopters, and raised concerns about SANDF's financial constraints, including the unfunded R2 billion for the DRC mission. Marais suggested withdrawing troops from the DRC to focus on upgrading equipment and prioritising national interests, particularly in Mozambique due to potential security threats. He criticised the lack of clarity on responsibility for troop deployment and the deadlock between Denel and the government. Marais also expressed concerns about our porous borders and the heavy reliance on an ageing reserve force. It is, he says, “like sending guys from the old SADF from an old age home with a R1 rifle” into combat.

Scott Spanton is a long-time podcast listener from Australia and he has hunted in South Africa Big Game Hunting Adventures twice: once in April of 2022 and once in October of 2023. For that reason, Scott has a unique perspective on what it's like hunting very early in the hunting season vs very late in the hunting season. Plus, he used rifles in 7mm Rem Mag and 300 WSM on these hunts and can share some personal experiences on how those two cartridges worked over there. We also talk about a few lessons Scott learned along the way and share some of the more memorable aspects of each hunt. Email me at  john@thebiggamehuntingblog.com and let me know what you'd potentially like to hunt if you're interested in potentially joining me on a hunt in the future. You don't have to wait until 2024 or 2025 to go to Africa if you don't want to. Like we said a couple times on our podcast from camp, don't wait to hunt in Africa if that's something you want to do. There's no guarantee that you'll have the time, money, or physical ability to hunt if you put things off for a year or two. I've seen it happen to people FAR too many times to count. We are currently fully booked for 2023, but there are still some openings left for 2024. I won't be there to hunt with you, but you'll be hunting with Kobus, Christian, and/or Johan in that exact same area where Michael, Fernando, and I all hunted. And even though I wont be there in person, just like I did with Mike and Fernando, I'll also be available to you to help answer questions, sort out logistics, and just do everything possible to ensure your mind is at ease and that you have a fun trip. You can hunt plains game. You can hunt buffalo. You can hunt both if you'd like. Email me john@thebiggamehuntingblog.com OR visit bestsafarihunt.com to learn a little bit more about these hunts. Zapraszam Cię do wysłuchania podcastu w którym wraz z Bartoszem Niedzielą rozmawiamy o rozczarowaniach w praktyce jogi. Bartosz Niedziela https://instagram.com/blogostan_bartosz_niedzielaBartek o sobie: Jestem nauczycielem i praktykiem Jogi, którą rozumiem jako szeroki wachlarz narzędzi transformujących ciało i przekonania, by doświadczać życia pełniej. Poszukuję własnego, wewnętrznego błogostanu i towarzyszę swoim podopiecznym w osiąganiu stanu ulgi. Fascynuje mnie szeroko pojęty rozwój osobisty i duchowy rozumiany, jako integrowanie własnych zasobów oraz powrót do neutralności oraz naturalności ciała i umysłu.Jako “Błogostan - Bartosz Niedziela” prowadzę zajęcia grupowe, indywidualne i online. Organizuję warsztaty i wyjazdy z jogą, medytacją, relaksem w dźwiękach oraz współtworzę inicjatywy związane z podnoszeniem jakości relacji z samym sobą i światem zewnętrznym.Na zajęciach cenię i celebruję atmosferę uważnego słuchania, autentyczności i bezpieczeństwa, przypominając że joga jest dla ludzi, nie ludzie dla jogi.
