Today, we're looking back at the original Breath of Fire, Capcom's first attempt in the role-playing genre. As part of its history, we'll talk about why Capcom decided to create a RPG, and who they asked to step up to the task. We'll then look at further sequels in the Breath of Fire series, through the most recent game in the main series. At length, we'll talk about why this last title has resulted in no further Breath of Fire titles being released. Join us for a dragonesque trip down Memory Card Lane.
He truly is the madman of rock and roll, a legendary frontman, an avid supporter of bikers, and a bourbon maker. You know Jesse James Dupree as the lead singer of Jackyl, but when inspiration struck during a surprise visit from his son Nigel, the boys Dupree got to work and wrote a straightforward, no-nonsense rock record called Breathing Fire. Featuring songs co-written by the legendary Brian Johnson of AC/DC, they truly have something special on hand.
Neil chats to Ruth, a daughter of the Windrush generation, on her decades of work with Bristol's voluntary and community groups, how that's changed as public services have been cut – and whether she feels conflicted about receiving an honour associated with empireRuth Pitter has been a stalwart of Bristol's voluntary sector for decades – and in January 2024 was awarded an MBE as part of the New Year's honours list for ‘services to equality, charity and community' in the city. This has included work with Voscur, the umbrella organisation that supports Bristol's voluntary sector, and SARI, which battles racism and provides support for people who have faced hate crimes. She has also been a pioneer in the local community arts space, co-founding two unique theatre companies – Breathing Fire and Black Women Let Loose – for women of African and Caribbean heritage.Ruth's career has spanned a period during which councils have faced massive cuts, with community organisations expanding and competing to fill the resulting gaping holes in services – and often bringing innovation to how things have done. What is the role of the voluntary sector these days? Is it right that things have to be this way in the UK? Do countries like Germany, where the state still takes care of things, offer a better model? What has been the impact of Ruth's theatre companies among communities who are much less likely to feel represented in the audience – or the productions – of mainstream Bristol theatres such as the Old Vic? And as a daughter of the Windrush generation who has spent her life fighting for fairness, does Ruth feel conflicted about accepting an honour that is inextricably linked to empire? Lock in with Neil and Ruth as they chew over these questions and many more, in the latest unmissable episode of Bristol Unpacked. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

Raucous Jackyl frontman Jesse James Dupree discusses his latest solo song "Never Gets Old" which was co-written with ACDC's Brian Johnson. Jesse also gives the latest update on Jackyl and sets the scene for the release of his solo album "Breathing Fire."
It's always great to talk with my friend, Jesse James Dupree from Jackyl. He's got a new album coming out on November 10th called, "Breathing Fire". He told me about the idea of the record, which was born out of good old fashioned Rock N' Roll. Brian Johnson from AC/DC helped to write some of the material. He said Brian called him out of the blue, while Jesse was contemplating and putting thoughts together for new music. "Next thing I know, I'm writing songs with Brian Johnson of AC/DC." Jesse talked about the entire process of how the songs came together with his son, Nigel and Jackyl bassist, Roman Glick. He talked how the cadence of the latest single "Never Gets Old" had a Marine cadence to it. That's out now and you can see the video here, which is the lyric video with 32 different fonts from some of your favorite bands. You can win cash and more if you can name all the bands. Punch up Jesse's site to find out how to win. We also talked about working with his son, Nigel. He tells a funny story about how it's different to get into an argument with a band member as opposed to your son. LOL I also asked him about the use of "The Lumberjack" in the Foo Fighter's Studio 666 movie. It's one of the most brutal death scenes I've ever seen in a horror movie. He went on to tell me a story about Nirvana almost getting kicked out of a Jackyl show in Seattle back in the day. As some of you may or may not know, Jesse works heavily with Harley-Davidson. We talked about that as well. -Meltdown- https://www.jessejamesdupree.com/

But that's not all! Dive deep into Jesse's journey, as he opens up about collaborating with his own flesh and blood, his exciting new business venture, and so much more!
It's always a good day when you get to hear great new music...it's an even better day when that new music is from a friend...which is why we were stoked when we found out that Jackyl frontman Jesse James Dupree had been working on a new solo album AND working with AC/DC frontman Brian Johnson, we were freaking out at the prospect at how good that was going to be...and that single, "Never Gets Old" delivers on every level!

New Episode alert! In honor of last week's Golden Globes, Gavin and I are discussing the 1991 straight to video action extravaganza, ‘Breathing Fire'! Produced and co-written by legendary Kung Fu star Tan Tao Liang, aka Flash Legs Tan, this American remake of ‘Shaolin Deadly Kicks' features some insanely fun, fast paced, frenetic fight scenes that almost seem out of place by how good they are! Featuring a cast of stellar martial artists, including genre favorite Bolo Young and 2x World Kickboxing champion Jerry “Golden Boy” Trimble, it is headlined by one of the most talented individuals in Hollywood, one of the greatest child actors of all time, and now Golden Globe winning actor- Jonathan Ke Huy Quan. Listen in as we deep dive into why we love this movie so much, how it manages to rise above many of its shortcomings, and why it might be one of the greatest straight to video movies of all time! Both Gavin and I want to express how happy we are for Ke Huy Quan's win, how excited we are about his return to Hollywood, and how although we could watch him in straight acting roles and be 100% entertained, we also wouldn't mind if he decided to do a straight up martial arts film again either! :-) You can listen to The Martial Arts Mania Podcast on Soundcloud, Spotify, Apple Podcasts and iHeart Podcasts! Don't forget to subscribe, download, and share with your friends! Thanks again for the continued support and we hope you enjoy!

Izzy and Shilpa discuss her upbringing in a Bengali family in New Jersey, being mentored by Nick Cave and Warren Ellis, her latest album 'Portrait of a Lady,' and why she believes counter-cultural anarchy was a sham for all the women involved in the movement. ✨ MORE ABOUT SHILPA RAY ✨Shilpa Ray is a self-described "fire-breathing cyclops ripping off Nina Simone ripping off Screamin' Jay Hawkins ripping off the devil." Combining punk rock with glam, gothic rockabilly, and blues, her music is unabashedly direct and politically charged. California's fire seasons have become more like year-round fire years. For firefighters on the frontlines, safety is the number one priority when wildfires erupt. When these fires strike, there's often a shortage of civilian firefighters to stop the spread. California has a long history of using incarcerated labor to supplement industries in need of additional assistance- including firefighting. For Gabriel Perez, a formerly incarcerated firefighter, his passion to serve his community by protecting it from fires began while he was incarcerated, and continues every day while he works to keep his community fire safe, even during a pandemic.
