Brian Case of FACS returns to Car Con Carne, not long after the release of the band’s incredible 6th album, “Wish Defense,” and before they play Thalia Hall on April 17. We talk about Steve Albini’s role in the recording, as “Wish Defense” was the last thing he worked on before his untimely passing last year. We also talk about the ambiguity of Brian’s lyrics, the cool sounds the band makes, and the fact that they recorded the songs live to tape - holy shit. ## Car Con Carne is sponsored by Easy Automation: easy-automation.net Transform your living space with cutting-edge home automation. Our first segment this episode features the all new KTM 250 Duke. I think we can all agree that little bikes are fun. Especially if you're coming off a liter-bike or even a fast middleweight, a smaller bike by comparison feels lightweight, flickable and so easy to ride. We loved the KTM Duke 200 a few years back when we had it on extended loan, however it did feel just a teensy bit underpowered when we ventured out beyond the city, and especially if we had to take to a freeway or two. KTM has addressed that, and with new Duke 250 adding another 50cc, it makes a huge difference. Don Williams and Kelly Callan spent some time with the new KTM 250 Duke, and they absolutely loved it. Our guest this week is Brian Case, Executive Director of the Barber Motorsports Museum in Alabama; home to one of the greatest motorcycle collections anywhere. A few months back, Teejay Adams attended the glittering Motorcycles by Moonlight event dinner, held each year during the Barber Vintage Festival. It's a pretty magical event, and so Teejay finds out from Brian why it's a must-do event if you're at all interested in motorcycles. Oh and FYI… if you're on iOS, you can listen to this podcast on the new Faidr App. That's F-A-I-D-R, and it's a new concept in podcasting. Here's a quick reminder to leave us your comments on our social media—we're on all the usual platforms at Ultimate Motorcycling. What if listening to God's subtle nudges could transform your life? Guest Brian Case shares how a willingness to follow those small promptings took him from being a defeated, bullied child to a passionate pastor inspiring others in their faith. Though facing immense hardships like years of bullying and multiple life-threatening open heart surgeries, Brian made a choice to draw closer to God in prayer instead of retreating. He started tuning his heart to the gentle guidance of the Holy Spirit from a young age. This obedience during adversity strengthened his relationship with God and sense of purpose. Now Brian urges all men to pay attention when they sense the Lord nudging their spirit into action, no matter how small the task seems. As he discovered firsthand, obeying these quiet whispers can lead people from brokenness into boldly living out their destiny in Christ. By clinging to faith rather than fear, Brian found a life of victory. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/michael-chestnut5/message Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/michael-chestnut5/support
In this episode we welcome acclaimed critic, author and professor Evelyn McDonnell and invite her to discuss her new Joan Didion book, along with the Motels, Britney Spears and California's pop history in general. Evelyn talks about her early L.A. memories and childhood move to Wisconsin before we hear how she progressed from her college paper in Providence, RI, to becoming the pop critic for the Miami Herald. We also note books such as her Runaways biography Queens of Noise, a suitable jumping-off point for a long conversation about her fellow Californian, Didion. Mark and Martin reminisce about the impact of Didion's extraordinary essay collections Slouching towards Bethlehem and The White Album, after which we follow her career through to the bestselling Year of Magical Thinking. The L.A. theme continues as we hear two clips from Steve Roeser's 2001 audio interview with Motels singer Martha Davis, putting that band into historical context with discussion of the pre-punk D.I.Y. "Radio Free Hollywood" shows in 1976. From there we fast-forward to the very different "L.A. Woman" that was and is Britney Spears, which in turn prompts our guest to give her very pertinent take on the [Jann] "Wennergate" debacle of the past month. At a significant remove from all this Hollywood Babylonia was avant-jazz giant Carla Bley, whose death we mark in a conversation about 1971's extraordinary Escalator Over The Hill. Finally, Mark mentions pieces he's recently added to the RBP library, including interviews with Laurie Anderson and the Byrds' Roger McGuinn, and Jasper rounds the episode off with remarks on pieces about Herbie Hancock and Steve Goodman's Hyperdub label. Many thanks to special guest Evelyn McDonnell. The World According to Joan Didion is published by HarperOne and available now. Pieces discussed: Hollywood Swinging: Joan Didion in '60s L.A., The Runaways, The Motels' Martha Davis audio, Britney Spears at Staples Centre, Britney Spears interviewed by Steven Daly, Carla Bley interviewed by Brian Case, Carla Bley at Queen Elizabeth Hall, Dwight Twilley Band, Dwight Twilley: Magical Mystery Man, Queen Latifah/DJ Mark the 45 King, The Byrds, Laurie Anderson, Steve Goodman & Hyperdub and Herbie Hancock.
This episode was too good to not post twice! This week, we're bringing back one of our favorites on forgiveness. Forgiveness isn't contractual, nor is it binary. In fact, it's quite the opposite of both. Yet we still waste so much of our lives waiting for another person to take accountability for the hurt that they've caused us, when the hard truth is that some probably never will. The good news is that they don't hold the power to keep us from our healing. Only WE do! Interpersonal forgiveness expert and therapist, Dr. Brian Case, joins Lisa for an episode on letting go of things that don't belong to us and gives us tips on how to use gratitude as an antidote to resentment, so that we can experience relief from our past. This is your reminder to get out of your own way. Forgiveness starts with YOU! To learn more about Just Go F Yourself visit www.justgofyourself.com.

We're bringing back one of our favorite episodes with Dr. Brian Case! Listen as he joins Lisa to chat about addiction, setting difficult boundaries, and navigating the windy road to self forgiveness... Addiction doesn't discriminate. It doesn't ask who you are or where you're from before snatching the identity of the person you once were and holding it hostage. It's an equal opportunity destroyer hurting the person suffering, as well as those around them. Interpersonal forgiveness expert and therapist, Dr. Brian Case, returns to the podcast to help us understand those fighting addiction, setting boundaries for repetitive behaviors, and separating the person from the disease so that we push towards forgiveness. This episode is a reminder that recovery is a journey, not a destination. Our guest on Episode 28 of the Rider Magazine Insider Podcast is Brian Case. Brian is an industrial designer is the former Chief Designer for Confederate Motorcycles. From 2008 to 2018, he was Co-Founder and Design Director for Motus Motorcycles, where he led the design and development of the MST V-4 sport-tourer. Brian joined the Barber Vintage Motorsports Museum in 2019, and last year he become the Director of the new Barber Advanced Design Center. He and his team are working with Pierre Terblanche on the Mono Project, a reimagining of Terblanche's iconic, '90s-era Ducati Supermono racebike using state-of-the-art techniques such as 3D printing.
Motos and Friends this week brings you Senior Editor Nic de Sena's perspective on the newly launched Aprilia 660 Tuareg ADV bike. Nic rode the bike in Sardinia and was impressed with Aprilia's take on the middleweight section of the adventure-bike market. It's not exotically priced, so if you're looking for this type of machine, the Tuareg is definitely worthy of your attention. The second segment is brought to you by Editor-at-Large Neale Bayly. It's the story of the sadly defunct Motus motorcycles, and he interviews Brian Case, who designed the well-engineered V-4 engine, as well as the entire motorcycle chassis to wrap around it. 200 Motus motorcycles were made, and Brian tells us the story of how it all played out. From us all here at Ultimate Motorcycling, we hope you enjoy this episode. 2022 Aprilia Tuareg 660 Review 17 Fast Facts from Sardinia 2022 Aprilia Tuareg 660 First Look (8 Fast Facts for Adventure)
This week we have a couple of unusual chats for you. In the first segment, Senior Editor Nic de Sena talks to Arthur Coldwells about the new Ohvale GP2 mini bike. This is a full race machine that is scaled down to work on kart tracks, and yet it is designed to give a rider the full racebike experience. The Ohvale is not a toy and many, many professional racers use one to enhance their skillset and help with their training. The second segment comes to you from the recent Barber Vintage Festival, held annually at Barber Motorsports Park in Leeds Alabama. George Barber himself was kind enough to spare a few minutes to chat about the new Advanced Design Center project that has been created on the top floor of the museum. Ably headed up by Brian Case of Motus Motorcycles fame, George Barber's Design Center is there to encourage and explore design. He has generously outfitted the center with every type of creative and production tool you can imagine, including a couple of high end 3D printing machines, and full clay-modelling capability. Brian Case has already collaborated with ex-Ducati designer Pierre Terblanche and their first project—done remotely with Pierre residing at home in South Africa I might add—is a modern take on the exquisite early 90s Ducati Super Mono, designed at the time by Pierre. The Advanced Design Center is a heck of a project and George Barber is justifiably proud of it. It is there to encourage and explore design, especially with young people who perhaps do not have the means to really explore their ideas or turn them into reality. If you're a designer with some ideas, please feel free to contact Brian Case at the Barber Advanced Design Center and talk to him about perhaps starting you off, or taking you to the next step in your career. His contact information is below. design@barbermuseum.org 2021 Ohvale GP-2 190 Review
In this episode of Music Therapy I interview Chicago musician Brian Case of FACS and Disappears! Brian describes what music success means to him, making music during the pandemic, writing and recording collaboratively, how he balances fatherhood with music and touring, his son's foray into music, FACS new album Present Tense, and lots more!! Brian Case bio: Singer and multi-instrumentalist Brian Case was a teenager when he got on board the music train with 90 Day Men, and he's been on it ever since. Based in Chicago, he was second guitarist with garage rockers Ponys and the stern vocal center of Disappears. Currently he leads FACS, a trio that pares Disappears' dynamic sound to starker, more monolithic essence. FACS use minimalism and space to create abstract, modern art rock. Ahead of the release of new documentary Mystify, they consider the tragic death of frontman Michael Hutchence. The week's featured writer is Tim Riley, whose articles on roots rock, 2 Live Crew and Buddy Holly's influence on John Lennon spark discussion of the intersection between nostalgia and authenticity, the disproportionate censorship of black voices... and Lennon's inner geek. The trio then listen to excerpts from Andy Gill's 2003 conversation with Jonny Greenwood about the Radiohead guitarist's first film soundtrack Bodysong – and early electronic instrument the Ondes Martenot. Finally, they each pick highlights from the articles added to the RBP library this week – among them a Brian Case interview with tenor-sax great Sonny Rollins and Jamiroquai's Jay Kay, a.k.a. "the prat in the hat", plus a piece from the early days of the internet and an interview with Charles Mingus' son Eric. Pieces discussed: INXS: The Sound of SUXS, INXS: The Lizard of Oz, Michael Hutchence obituary, Roots rock, 2 Live Crew, John Lennon's inner geek, Jonny Greenwood audio, Jonny Bluewood, Bodysong, The Animals in America, Roberta Flack, Fripp and Eno, Sonny Rollins, Bruce Springsteen, Ronald Shannon Jackson, Jamiroquai, Brainwashed.com, Eric Mingus, Jennifer Lopez, Eric Carmen
