The Lindsay Clancy jury will continue deliberations Monday, but they've already deliberated longer than the juries in the trials of OJ, Dahmer, Scott Peterson, Alex Murdaugh, and Susan Smith. But they've got a long way to go if they're going to deliberate as long as the Charles Manson jury. Amy and T.J. go through the deliberation times in some famous cases (MJ, Chauvin, Cosby, Yates, Zimmerman, etc) and see what it tells us the Clancy jury. In this bonus episode of Selective Ignorance, Mandii B and the crew jump into one of the most polarizing conversations in sports and politics: transgender women competing in women’s athletics. The discussion begins with a sports rant [00:06 ] before asking who should ultimately determine WNBA eligibility rules—the league, its players, governing bodies, or outside lawmakers [ 01:08 ]. The crew weighs arguments surrounding biology, gender identity, and athletic competition [ 02:36 ], including questions of physicality and competitive fairness [ 05:57 ], before testing the conversation through hypothetical locker-room scenarios [ 07:15 ] and considering how much voting power WNBA players themselves should have over league policy [ 08:22 ]. They unpack what people actually mean when discussing gender transition [ 10:48 ] and question whether the larger controversy has become a political distraction from issues with a more direct impact on everyday Americans [ 14:26 ], before humor enters the debate through a conversation about the financial realities associated with transitioning [ 15:26 ]. The crew switches gears to music [ 20:42 ] after encountering a report claiming releases from major artists including Taylor Swift, Drake, Bad Bunny, and Kendrick Lamar coincided with increases in deadly traffic crashes [ 20:49 ]. Rather than accepting the headline at face value, they question correlation versus causation [ 21:59 ], dig into the statistics, methodology, data sources, and variables that could influence the findings [ 25:28 ], and debate whether audience and attendance numbers complicate the conclusions [ 26:48 ]. Hip-hop discourse continues as they unpack The Game’s grievances involving Kendrick Lamar and Nipsey Hussle’s circle [ 27:12 ], questioning mixed messages, loyalty, comparisons, and when legitimate criticism begins to resemble attention-driven conflict [ 30:02 ]. Politics returns to the forefront as the hosts react to Elon Musk calling for Derek Chauvin’s release [ 32:25 ], debating whether provocative culture-war issues are being used to energize political audiences while larger policy concerns receive less attention. From there, they redirect the conversation toward what they consider the “real issues” affecting everyday life, including healthcare, education, voting rights, employment, government services, and the rising cost of travel [ 35:33]. The crew identifies three policy areas they believe deserve greater public attention [ 42:26 ] before examining the economics of the American healthcare system and the tension between patient care and profit [ 50:27 ]. Naturally, Selective Ignorance finds room for one last detour—the timeless ranch versus blue cheese debate [ 53:16 ]—before wrapping the bonus episode with final thoughts and credits [ 55:29 ]. In this episode of Selective Ignorance, Mandii B is joined by super producer A-King and headline king Jason “Jah” Lee for a wide-ranging conversation spanning Atlanta culture, policing, politics, infrastructure, race, hip-hop, gender identity, and the WNBA. After previewing the episode’s biggest stories [ 00:38 ], the crew catches up on their weekends [ 02:43 ] before debating Atlanta’s dining scene, happy-hour culture, restaurant service, and food experiences [ 03:26 ]. Jah’s “Ignorant Thought” turns serious as he reacts to reports about the death in prison of the former officer who shot Sonya Massey, prompting a larger conversation about policing, accountability, and Elon Musk’s suggestion that Derek Chauvin should be released [ 06:20 ]. From there, a discussion about recent food safety scares and beef consumption briangs the crew back to what—and where—they’re willing to eat [ 09:27 ]. In “This Is America,” the hosts spotlight Gary, Indiana, where residents in a largely Black community have faced an extended power outage following severe storms [ 13:02 ]. The crew connects the crisis to larger questions about aging infrastructure, disaster response, environmental inequality, government responsibility, and which communities receive urgency when essential services fail, while encouraging support for residents in need [ 16:28 ]. Politics takes center stage as they react to comments from Florida Democratic Senate nominee Angie Nixon about taking her children to drag shows [ 24:46 ], debating political strategy and whether certain public positions help or hurt candidates in contentious elections [ 28:39 ]. The conversation expands into who actually attends drag shows and why [ 33:11 ], an explanation and debate around the term cisgender [ 34:43 ], and the importance of context when discussing drag performances, children, LGBTQ+ issues, and adult entertainment [ 37:37 ]. They then zoom back out to Florida politics, progressive movements, and the Democratic Socialists of America [ 40:31 ], before taking a lighter detour into beards, appearances, and “hat fishing” [ 44:30 ]. The conversation returns to crime and race as the crew examines reports of an alleged Penn State fraternity cocaine distribution operation [ 47:48 ], questioning whether similar allegations involving Black defendants would be framed as a gang, conspiracy, or RICO case and exploring racial disparities in the language used around criminal activity [50:30 ]. They also discuss fentanyl risks, drug surveillance, and the dangers surrounding today’s illicit drug supply [ 55:20 ]. From there, the hosts react to Master P’s comments about Black people “harping on slavery,”debating historical memory, generational trauma, accountability, opportunity, and whether acknowledging systemic barriers is incompatible with pursuing progress [ 57:06 ]. Hip-hop becomes the focus as the crew explains why J. Cole’s current tour feels culturally significant [ 01:06:53 ], particularly in an era without the same ecosystem of music blogs and media outlets that once documented rap in real time [ 01:08:10 ]. That leads into a broader discussion about whether hip-hop is experiencing a reset and what the culture needs from artists, audiences, and media moving forward [ 01:09:29 ]. The final stretch tackles another viral culture debate as Mandii, A-King, and Jah react to backlash surrounding a Matt Matthews and Kandi Burruss clip involving pronouns [ 01:10:23 ] and dive into the comment section to examine how social media amplifies cultural misunderstandings and outrage [ 01:13:42 ]. The discussion expands into transphobia, identity, language, and accusations of using a “blaccent” [ 01:19:52 ], before the crew condemns the disturbing trend of people throwing sex toys onto the court during WNBA games [ 01:27:33 ]. They react to Joy Taylor calling out the behavior [ 01:29:07 ] and question what leagues, arenas, and fans should expect when it comes to security, consequences, player safety, and basic respect for women athletes [ 01:35:07 ]. The crew closes with final thoughts and credits [ 01:40:12 ], wrapping an episode that connects politics, race, public safety, hip-hop culture, LGBTQ+ discourse, and women’s sports through the signature humor and debate of Selective Ignorance. They also break down the recent Christian nationalism debate featuring Doug Wilson, Joe Rigney, Al Mohler, and Paul Miller, and explain why the movement's vision of a Christian America is fundamentally at odds with religious freedom and equal citizenship.

Derek Chauvin's lawyers just filed an appeal claiming his murder conviction was unconstitutional — no grand jury, a governor who feared the mob, a verdict the street wrote before the evidence was read. The appeal isn't a legal fight; it's a counter-ritual 50 years in the making. Jason Whitlock traces how America's surrender to domestic terror made Chauvin the scapegoat — and why freeing him is the line. Then Pags gets into a U.S. Air Force flight forced to turn back from Antarctica amid a reported Russian missile threat and brings you Trump's latest answers to reporters outside the White House construction. The president weighs in on the Strait of Hormuz and warns countries supporting Iran of an "Economic D-Day," but Pags wants to know why America is still negotiating when he believes the U.S. has the power to force Iran to back down. Then comes a number that should terrify every American: $40 TRILLION in national debt. Pags explains why Washington's spending looks nothing like the way normal families are forced to live—and warns that the financial pressure could become another weapon used to divide the country. Joseph also said that Walz's reassignment of the case to Ellison was "unlawful" —and the failure of the Hennepin County District Court to convene a grand jury violated state and federal rules and laws. The petition further argues that these "errors" require "automatic dismissal" of the case against Chauvin for his involvement in the death of George Floyd.Support the show
