Ed and Rob took some time from Thursday's BBMS to discuss Odafe Oweh's decision to add weight this offseason. Oweh said he gained around 20 pounds and Coach Harbaugh mentioned it was 10 pounds of muscle, but with a contract year ahead, was it a smart idea to possibly change his style of play?
To believe in oneself is a powerful thought. We've seen it drive elite athletes for centuries. It's been the foundation of one of the most successful shows in recent history, Ted Lasso. And for over 25 years, I've heard quarterbacks use that word - belief - time and time again. At my core, I trust that the best coaches, players, and performers must face moments of adversity. Hundreds of them. They must stare it in the eye, welcome it, and compete through it. We all have our own moments to reference. And if you're a quarterback, you likely have a few that stand out. It's such a defining trait that we use it as a core pillar at the Elite 11 when evaluating QBs. Every single NFL coach or GM I've ever spoken with about a prospect asks about it.Bottom line: If you want to elevate in life - or under center - when adversity shows up, you better believe you can find a way through it.Former Minnesota Golden Gopher quarterback Max Brosmer is a blueprint of that mindset. He joined the latest episode of Y-Option, presented by founding partner 76, to break down the ‘why' behind his success.I was introduced to Max through Seth Makowsky, an elite mindset coach and the founder of Poison Pawn. Seth has trained some of the top quarterbacks in the nation through chess, using a unique approach to developing their mental game. After visiting with Minnesota head coach P.J. Fleck and co-offensive coordinator/QB coach Greg Harbaugh Jr. this past fall, it was clear that Max was a special soul. A player whose work ethic stood out in my 25 years around the quarterback position and in the lengthy coaching careers of both Fleck and Harbaugh Jr.He's also a gamer.I was on the call for back-to-back wins for Minnesota this season against USC and UCLA. In both games, with the outcome on the line, Max met the moment. After you listen to our conversation, it won't surprise you why he delivered when his best was needed. Now, Max is on his path toward the NFL Draft. Ahead of his Pro Day this week, he took time to share some of his core principles as a competitor, the impact of the Minnesota coaching staff on his development, and his experience in the draft process. He also gave some insight into his former team's QB room as spring ball in Minneapolis kicks off this week. (Spoiler: He did the interview from Drake Lindsey's apartment.)If you're unfamiliar with Max's journey, here's the quick version: He was a 2-star recruit out of Georgia who's only offer was to New Hampshire, ranked the 255th overall QB prospect in the Class of 2019—the same class that produced Bo Nix and Jayden Daniels. Think about that for a second. Max was ranked 255th at his position in the entire country, and in six weeks, he'll be on an NFL roster! Safe to say that Ted Lasso would be impressed with his personal belief.Max went on to star at New Hampshire, overcoming injuries and adversity along the way. Through it all, Max never flinched. His maturity and discipline became defining traits. Once his football acumen caught up to his work ethic, he made his dream a reality - playing college football in the Big Ten.For high school quarterbacks and college players chasing a dream, this is a must-listen conversation. And if you're curious about what it's like to play for Coach Fleck and Coach Harbaugh, our discussion paints a vivid picture that might just inspire you to visit their facility.Speaking of learning, today's Y-Option discussion before our interview with Max focused on the quarterback position in the Big Ten for 2025. After diving into depth charts, film on new transfers, and incoming freshmen, my focus settled on the returners in the deepest league in the nation. What should Year 2 look like in the same system with the same staff? If you're on the QB path, be sure to check out our conversation with Mark Sanchez on what allows a quarterback to succeed in the NFL. It's one of my favorite episodes from Season 1 of Y-Option.I'm on my way to Boulder for the Nike Coach of the Year Clinic, and I'll be sharing insights on the Buffs, Elite 11 in LA, and spring ball as it ramps up nationwide. Ever notice how every other word in your favorite TV show seems to be beeped out, or how your go-to playlist is peppered with more F-bombs than a Quentin Tarantino flick? We're peeling back the curtain to reveal the sweeping escalation of swear words in pop culture, and the implications it has on our daily banter – particularly with the impressionable ears of the next generation tuning in. In an era where four-letter words are less shocking and more like commas, we dissect the allure of the forbidden lexicon and its psychological tug-of-war. Let's lay it all out there - the good, the bad, and the four-lettered - and how shifting societal norms have redrawn the lines of what's considered taboo.Turning the page, let's chat about the redemptive success story of the College Football National Champions, the University of Michigan Wolverines, who went 2-4 in just 4 years ago, and completed an amazing turnaround with a 15-0 perfect season against Ohio State, Alabama, and Washington. Coach Harbaugh focused on three things in this amazing turnaround, which we will cover. We encourage you to jump into the fray, share your triumphs, and keep the conversation going by connecting with us on Instagram at Botox and Burpees podcast, or sounding off in the comments on YouTube. Hour 2 More on what should happen if the Dolphins get beat in the wild card roudn to the Chiefs. We argue should the Fisn make a chance at the head coaching position. Leroy thinks they need to let Mike McDaniel cook but if they get blown out after such a great start and Jim Harbaugh looming would the Fins be smart and ho after Coach Harbaugh.
TDC Podcast topics - We're finally back! Tonight we had Gregg Henson on to discuss all things about the Wolverines winning the National Championship, thoughts on Coach Harbaugh returning to Michigan or leaving for the NFL, the Lions gearing up for a playoff run starting with Matthew Stafford and the LA Rams coming to town this weekend, and we touch on things around here going forward.
Big time congrats to the University of Michigan Football program for winning the National Championship for College football. There was a saying that Coach Harbaugh says a lot that got more coverage in the last few weeks - "Who's got it better than us??? NOOOOBODY!!" It got me thinking about the origin of this story as I read a posting online connecting it to when the Harbaugh brothers (and their sister was around too I think), were out doing things with their dad... and their dad would ask them that same question. It was all around the mindset of ``we have it good", no matter the circumstances. It reminded me to remember this about myself along with remembering the fact that everyone else is taken & that I can't be anyone else. Along with the fact that I can play small in life and let fear ride along with me during my lifetime. Lots came out in this episode that I didn't know would.. but, that's all part about being myself and working hard to live my best life. I hope this helps you to be better too, in whatever you want to go after in your life. Listen to Ben Newman's "The Burn Podcast" - HERE. Listen to Sam Crowley's "Everyday is Saturday Podcast" HERE. Zay and Channing share a special history as Channing was one of his high school coaches and was able to see his talent at an early age as well as play a strong role in keeping him out of trouble. Channing coached Zay at a private high school, and despite the adversity Flowers had faced, he kept a smile on his face at all times. Chan and Zay reminisce about some of their stories together as Chan shows his pride for the future star. One of 14 children, Zay lost his mother at 5 years old and also lost his brother when he was in high school, which he never let that escape him and always used it as motivation to represent his 8 brothers and 4 sisters in all he did and show the utmost respect towards his father for all he instilled in him growing up. Last April, when Zay walked across the NFL Draft stage, he made a tribute to his entire family and how each of them played a role in his opportunities. Learning commitment and sacrifice from his father, working hard and being grateful for each day is the biggest thing he takes from his childhood and can't put into words his appreciation for his father holding it all together. Now, Zay has found a second family with this Ravens squad, and their Super Bowl aspirations are alive and well heading into the playoffs. Zay details what it's been like learning from OBJ, Coach Harbaugh's leadership and being grateful that Lamar is the one drawing up their plays and executing his offense's success. He shares with Chan, Fred and Ryan a glimpse of some of what it's like to be in that building and what it's like inside the huddle on game days, opens up on what the next few weeks will be like and why he is so confident this Ravens team is the one! Zay's dad's 4 a.m. wake-ups and years providing for 14 children is undoubtedly paying off, and Zay is on a mission to keep proving his haters wrong and making his family as close as ever. Connor Stalions had an unbelievable and idiotic system set up to steal signs and spy on future opponents for the Michigan Wolverines and Coach Jim Harbaugh. That is undeniable and highly illegal, for sure. But how much does that information impact a football game against Ryan Day and the Ohio State Football team, or any opponent in College Football? Does it really translate to THAT big of an advantage in the day and age of the 2023 College Football season? What is the timeline to punish Coach Harbaugh and Michigan Football, if they are going to be punished?
