With the first WorldTour race of the season, The Tour Down Under, already done and dusted, we review the action in Australia plus other early-season racing and talking points from the week in professional cycling. Daniel Friebe and Lionel Birnie are joined by Rob Hatch, who was on the ground to see Jay Vine take his second TDU overall victory. After his masterclass with Vine on the Corkscrew climb early in the week, Jhonatan Narváez's crash threatened to derail UAE's race. Happily for them, Vine couldn't be shaken – not even by bushfires or a kangaroo running amok in the peloton. The other hot topic of the week was Jonas Vingegaard's crash on a training ride near Málaga, amid suggestions that he was trying to shake off an amateur who wanted to tag along. We ask whether cycling fans have a “stalking” problem – or whether it's the riders who need to change their attitude. Life in the Peloton is proudly brought to you by MAAP The Tour Down Under is done and dusted for another year, and it was an absolute banger. I was lucky enough to get in amongst it right there at the roadside all week and, to make it better, I was joined by my old mate - the Doughboy himself - Ian Boswell. For this episode, I wanted to take you guys inside the Tour Down Under; not just the racing, but the atmosphere around the race and the vibe that gets cooked up in Adelaide every year. The racers lining up for the first time, getting use to their new teams and equipment, the fans at the side of the road, and all the sweet little events that go off each morning out of Adelaide. Ian and I kicked off our week with a big bang, getting stuck into the cut and thrust of the short, sharp prologue from inside the team car! I hopped in the NSN passenger seat to follow Ethan Vernon - who actually went and finished 2nd on the stage, missing the win by less than a second…maybe his DS was a bit distracted? In the paddocks, we got a chance to catch up with some of the riders who've come Down Under to start their 2026 racing season. Guys like the new Natty champ Pat Eddy, British up and comer Matty Brennan, the 16 wheeler himself Harry Sweeny, and heaps more. We spoke about the race, as well as some general questions about their seasons and - of course - a cheeky little mini CommuniQuiz to keep them on their toes! Of course, this race is defined by the fans. People have travelled from far and wide to be here - one girl I spoke to even made the journey all the way from Texas in the USA! It was great chatting with people up and down the roadside about their TDU experience - and meet loads of LITP listeners in person. This is a chokka block episode with loads of great little soundbites you only get from being right there at the races live and in person. I hope Boz and I managed to capture the vibe so you can sit back, crack a frothy, and pretend you're right there under the baking Adelaide sun with us. Cheers! Can it get any more Down Under than that? The boys catch up to break down a very unpredictable TDU, with stages cut short, a GC top 10 that no one would have guessed, and a stage ruined by kangaroos! Also G talks about his time spent behind enemy lines
Plappy talks our through his / Jayco's Tour and Max gives us his best and worst performances of the TDU.
It's been a long winter, but here we are, guys, the first podcast from Life In The Peloton of the season and oh man, is it a good one. I got in the booth LIVE with Tom Southam and Luke Durbridge at the Tour Down Under to unpack the Aussie national champs, talk a little bit about the TDU, and have a look ahead to what we can expect this racing season. We kick off with the man himself, Turbo Durbo, giving us the inside line on the Aussie National Champs. If you watched the race, then you'll know Luke came pretty close to bagging himself the top step, but it didn't quite work out that way. He gives us a bit of insight into how the race unfolded and how Jayco AlUla reacted to the final result. In this month's PeloChat, Luke goes through every single Aussie in the men's World Tour bunch. From neo pros to old hands, Luke shares a bit of info and his thoughts on all the riders to see who's representing the land Down Under overseas in 2026. Southam's Talking Tactics takes a deep dive into the rest of UAE. Away from Pogačar and his Tour de France A-Team, what are the rest of the team going to do? That squad is stacked with absolute hitters, so how are they going to manage themselves and make sure everyone's happy? Tom gives us his thoughts. You know what's coming next, we round it out with a classic CommuniQuiz. We're honouring the soon-to-retire Aussie legend, Simon Clarke, with a quiz all about his awesome 17-year career. How many Grandys did he race? Which monument did he only do once? What teams has he ridden for in his pro career? You'll have to listen to find out! Guys, I'm so excited to kick off the 2026 season. I'm on the ground at the TDU picking up heads of eps with some really special riders so keep your eyes peeled for those dropping soon. Cheers, Mitch P.s.
The 2026 WorldTour season is underway at the Santos Tour Down Under in Adelaide. After a fascinating finale to the opening stage, Matt de Neef and Gracie Elvin are joined by TDU assistant race director Nettie Edmondson to break down all the action and take a peek behind the curtain of Australia's biggest bike race.

Sometimes the best stories come wrapped in chaos. Fair warning. The internet and audio were very average on this one. The conversation still cuts through. From the elusive AIS development program to the heart of the WorldTour, Simon Clarke has lived just about every version of professional cycling. Astana. Orica GreenEDGE. Cannondale–Drapac. EF Pro Cycling. Qhubeka–NextHash. Israel–Premier Tech. Few riders can say they have seen the sport change from the inside as many times as he has. Marko, Tils and Hollywood unpack a career defined by resilience, adaptability, and surviving at the highest level for over a decade. Thank you for the support this year on The Domestiques. Ride safe. The conditions were frigid and the crowd was frosty at Arrowhead on Sunday, but nothing could stop the Harbaugh-led Bolts from bringing their best when their best was needed against the Kansas City Chiefs. In their first season sweep of Big Red's Big Babies since 2013, the Chargers were rugged, ruthless and showed dogged determination, winning the turnover battle, and ultimately the game, 16-13. It wasn't pretty but it was enough to get the job done and the #BoltFam rejoiced. Join us today for a special episode of TDU recorded LIVE after the game. Don't miss the Victory Pod!
In one of the craziest games of the season, the Chargers defeated the reigning Super Bowl Champions on Monday Night Football in a seesaw-ing Overtime affair featuring 8 total turnovers! Nursing a broken hand, Herbert showed courage all night and willed his team to victory. The Defense came to play and ultimately sealed the game with their fourth interception of Eagles QB Jalen Hurts, a tip from CB Cam Hart landing in the waiting arms of veteran S Tony Jefferson by the shadow of the Chargers' own Endzone in OT. Now boasting a 9-4 record, the Bolts schedule doesn't get any easier, with last year's other Super Bowl participant, those Kansas City Chiefs, awaiting them at Arrowhead Stadium in Wk 15. Just how excited should the #BoltFam be about this insane Wk 14 victory? Is this team still fatally flawed or can we all dare to dream? Join us this week on TDU to find out. Don't miss it!

The Los Angeles Chargers completed a 2025 sweep of the Las Vegas Raiders at SoFi on Sunday, winning comfortably by three scores and improving their season record to 8-4. RB Kimani Vidal's stellar 126-yard performance on the ground made him the first Bolts Back since Melvin Gordon (in 2018) to exceed the 100-yard rushing mark 3x in a single season. However, the biggest story emerging from the game was QB Justin Herbert's broken left hand – suffered on a missed tackle attempt in the open field – which required surgery on Monday and put his status for Wk 14 MNF against the Eagles in Wk 14 in question. How will this injury affect the rest of the Chargers' season? Has the Defense and ground game (with Hampton shortly to return) shown enough that it shouldn't really matter? These are the big questions and we discuss it all this week on TDU. Don't miss it!
It was déjà vu for the #BoltFam on Sunday, as the Chargers strolled into Jacksonville in Wk 11 with a quiet confidence, but left knowing they'd experienced a seismic season-shifting loss. The Jags 35-6 Bolt Beatdown was the most lopsided time of possession imbalance of any game in Coach Harbaugh's NFL Career. Not wanting his Coach to suffer the ignominy of a career low statistical mark alone, Herbert also passed for his lowest career yardage total in a game (81). As the team now enters their bye week, admittedly their chances of making the playoffs remain high. Their overall season record is 7-4 and their AFC West record is 3-0. However, have all these wins been for a lost cause? We discuss both sides of the coin today on TDU. Don't miss it!
On Sunday Night Football in Wk 10, the Chargers showed the world they have what it takes – even with Joe Alt out for the season – to challenge the very best teams in 2025. It was a night where Keenan Allen surpassed Antonio Gates as the All-Time Franchise Receptions Leader, and the #BoltFam were treated to a special team performance. In an absolute beatdown of the Steelers, Jesse Minter's Defense held Aaron Rodgers and the Pittsburgh Offense to 3 total points until junk time in Q4. The Chargers Offense, relying on Justin Herbert and the rush Offense, did just enough to keep the Steelers fearsome pass rush at bay. The final score (25-10) flattered the visiting team and the Chargers' victory took their season record to an impressive 7-3. With only a trip to Jacksonville standing between the Bolts and their bye week, are fans now feeling confident that a deep playoff push is on horizon? Or do doubts still linger? Join us on another episode of TDU to hear our views on all of the Chargery topics. Don't miss it!
Every week presents a different challenge in the NFL. In Wk 9, the Chargers were confronted by a plucky Titans team who punched above their weight class early at Nissan Stadium, scoring 14 points in Q1 courtesy of a pick-six and a 67 yd punt return TD. Adding injury to insult, the Chargers lost Offensive Tackles Bobby Hart (for the day) and Joe Alt (sadly, for the season) before half-time. However, in a gritty second half performance, the Bolts stuck together and clawed their way to victory; a fitting tribute to their starting LB Daiyan Henley whose older brother sadly passed away earlier in the week. The Chargers are now 6-3 (with a 3-0 intra-division record), but why does this season feel on the precipice? And of what exactly? Join us on another episode of TDU to find out!
東京電機大学(TDU)は10月27日、同学の岩澤俊喜氏がVirtual Moderatorの脆弱性を発見したと発表した。
The Chargers' sweet start to the season was soured on Sunday at the MetLife Stadium. In an upset performance, rookie QB Jaxson Dart scored twice and did just enough at the helm to lead the Giants to a 21-18 victory. The true victors on the day were the Giants' Defensive Line, who constantly pressured Herbert – their highlight play, a 37-yard INT return from 340 pounds Defensive Tackle Dexter Lawrence. As the Bolts dust themselves off from their first loss of the season and count their battle wounds (which include Joe Alt ending the game in a moon boot), today on TDU we bring you our game recap and then look ahead to another NFC East opponent in Wk 5, the Washington Commanders. Don't miss it!
São Paulo, Brazil will hold a special place in Chargers' fans hearts after Herbert & the Bolts' 27-21 Wk 1 statement win against the reigning conference winning Kansas City Chiefs on Friday night. In their first victory against Andy Reid & Patrick Mahomes since 2021, Justin Herbert passed for 318 yards, 3 TDs and added 32 yds with his legs, including the 19 yd scamper with 2:14 remaining in the game that sealed victory at Corinthians Stadium. Harbaugh's Bolts controlled the contest from stat to finish, and whether Herbert's performance was fuelled by ESPN Ryan Clark's pre-game comments (‘whenever it matters, [Herbert]'s been terrible'), last season's disappointing playoff exit at Houston, or his new blossoming off-field romance, the NFL should be terrified of what #10 appears primed to do this season for the Powder Blues. Join us on #TDU as we discuss it all!
Mercifully, the 2025 Preseason ended on Saturday and ‘real football' is just around the corner for the Bolts (in Brazil!). Today on TDU we share our takeaways from the Chargers 2-2 preseason record. What did and didn't matter? What did we see as important, challenging and interesting? We also look further afield to Tuesday's roster cutdown, discussing Daniel Popper's final 53 man prediction and sharing our own thoughts ahead of a busy few days for Joe Hortiz and Company at Chargers' HQ. Don't miss it!
A turbulent week for Chargers fans concluded on Sunday with a 27-13 victory against Kellen Moore and Brandon Staley's Saints at SoFi Stadium. Earlier in the week, the joyous return of Keenan Allen to the Powder Blues on a 1yr deal was swiftly soured by news that franchise LT Rashawn Slater had suffered a serious knee injury at practice which scans confirmed will end his 2025 season prematurely. Yet there were no signs of the team slowing down on the field as the “next men up” performed admirably leading the Bolts to a 2-0 Preseason record. We discuss what it all means for the season this week on TDU. Don't miss it!
Life in the Peloton is proudly brought to you by MAAP The sport of professional cycling has everything. Dramatic storylines, heroic champions, tear jerking wins, and more. But, one thing it seems to be lacking is cash. Every year, it seems like teams have to fight harder and harder to get sponsorship to pay their riders. Compared to the likes of soccer and other mainstream sports, budgets in cycling are a drop in the ocean. I wanted to find out how professional cycling is able to keep rolling despite the financial struggles, and see if there's anything teams can do to increase their revenue and grow the sport as a whole, so I spoke to some key stakeholders in the sport to find out more. In this special edition of Life In The Peloton, I speak to my first team boss and manager of Team Picnic Post NL, Iwan Spekenbrink, General Race Director of Flander's Classics, Scott Sunderland, current pro seeing out his last season after 17 years as a rider, Simon Clarke, Bas Tietema, owner of TDT Unibet Rockets - the new kids on the block looking to redefine the fan - team relationship through storytelling alongside chasing results, and finally Dr Cillian Kelly; a master statistician with the cold hard facts on the situation to see if it is really as bleak as it seems. Guys, this episode is a deep dive into the sport we all love to find out if it has a future that's financially sustainable, or if teams are always going to be scratching around for sponsorship or closing altogether. Thanks to all my interviewees for speaking to me, and the wider Life In The Peloton team for helping pull this mammoth episode together. I hope you enjoy it! Cheers! The Chargers have been putting in the work at OTAs and Mandatory Minicamp. But have the TDU boys been grinding too during their time off? With only two weeks until the 2025 NFL Draft, on today's show we unpack how the Chargers should ATTACK it! Building an NFL roster requires many decisions and different teams have different philosophies. Are their certain positions you should never draft in Round 1? Should you ever trade up? Should BPA or need mainly determine picks? We discuss it all on TDU. Don't miss it
“It was a deathly quiet first week of free agency for the Chargers and fans were angry! They thought GM Joe Hortiz had forgotten about the team's $90m of cap space and that Herbert was being hung out to dry (again). Then the Chargers signed the largest OL in the NFL, Super Bowl Winning Right Guard, Mekhi Becton. Has Hortiz totally redeemed himself? Are there some more big moves coming #BoltFam? We discuss it all on TDU. Don't miss it

The boys are back in town for the second episode of Race Radio! Harry & Stu have passed their probation and been let loose on the mic once again to talk about what they're most excited for in the 2025 season. These boys are fanatical about pro cycling, and their enthusiasm is infectious, so it was great to hear them giving their overview of the coming season. As always, Harry's given me a blurb for the episode so you know what you're in for: “Are you excited for the road racing season to start yet? In the latest episode of Life in the Peloton's Race Radio, we'll get you ready for another rollicking, rollercoaster year of pro cycling with our top ten things to look forward to in 2025. From the new stars set to shine, the first women's Milan-San Remo, comeback Queens, the first ever road world championships to be held in Africa, and much more, we guarantee that this'll get you ready to rock and roll. Let's go!” I do love the Tour Down Under as the kick-off for the racing season, but the lull between TDU and Opening Weekend has always been a tough one to fill. This definitely got me even more excited for the big races to kick off - as if I wasn't buzzing already. I hope you love this one as much as I did and, remember, you can drop the boys an email at raceradio@lifeinthepeloton.com to let them know what you think of this ep, what you want to hear them discuss, or just to tell them you think they're handsome young-ish men!

Life in the Peloton is proudly brought to you by MAAP The 2025 road racing season has kicked off down here in Adelaide at the Tour Down Under, and that can only mean one thing; it's time for The Race Communiqué! It's been a long off season, but Southam, Durbo, and I are back on the mics having a yarn about bike racing, and boy is it good to be back. TDU is a special race. Not only is it my “home” race, but it's also one of the only times of the year that EF Education Easypost DS Tom Southam, newly crowned Aussie natty champ Luke Durbridge, and I are all in the same place. So, for the first episode of 2025, we decided to kick the pod up a gear and record it LIVE! We've also recorded a video podcast which you can find over on Life In The Peloton's Youtube channel - so make sure you go and give that a watch! Durbo, still riding high from his epic victory in Perth a few weeks back, kicks off the pod by talking us through his incredible ride that secured him the green and gold bands. It was a show of amazing team tactics, a little bit of luck, and a hell of a lot of hard work from Turbo Durbo - and it's awesome to get his insight on how the race played out. Obviously with the launch of MAAPs awesome collaboration with Jayco Alula, we discuss the new team kits in the peloton in ‘Pelo Chat'. We talk about how the style of the peloton has changed over the years, and how a good team kit can totally redefine a team's identity. Tom's ‘Talking Tactics' segment dives into the new UCI rules that have changed the way riders will feed in the bunch this season. Trust me, it's way more interesting than it sounds, and will make a huge difference to team strategy this season. Of course, it wouldn't be The Race Communiqué without the Communi-Quiz - a TDU special hosted by Southam. I'm also stoked to announce that for the 2025 season, The Race Communiqué will be presented by TrainingPeaks. TrainingPeaks is a great piece of software for coaches, professional athletes, and amateurs alike that Tom, Luke, and I have all used religiously throughout our respective careers. This week, the geeks talk through new pedals from OneUp, short cranks from RaceFace, as well as new bikes from Giant and Liv, Stinner, Basso, and Chapter2. There's also chat about some more industry headwinds that have affected REI and Raleigh. And as usual, Brad Copeland joins the pod to answer a few wrenching questions from Escape members with Dave.Maybe it's the Christmas break effect still and we've got a lot of chat in us, but like last week, this episode is longer than usual, but we hope you enjoy it nevertheless.Escape Collective's podcasts are made possible by our members. Life in the Peloton is proudly brought to you by MAAP We've got a bumper edition of Talking Luft for you this week, as I had the chance to hit up the 2024 World Tour peloton with some of our favourite - and most important, questions from the show, at the Tour Down Under. The TDU starts are famously laid back, so it was the perfect place for me to mill about and get some answers from some World Tour heavyweights, lightweights and everything in-between. We've got the likes of Bernie Eisel, Bauke Mollema, Dan McLay, George Bennett, Danny Van Poppel and Kellan O'Brien, to name just a few of the amazing group that we got for this pod. I hit them up with the big racing issues of course; what are the best (and worst) parts of a race, and why? What is it like starting the season Down Under - and why is it so good? Being Talking Luft, I also cross examined the guys on some key style issues like, how do you wear your casquette? And shoes, black or white? You'd think that in 2024 everyone would know not to wear their cap swimming hat style, or not to choose black shoes and white socks… but you'd be surprised! As always this was a really fun one to make, with some great names from the peloton. Have a listen, enjoy and judge the sock choices as harshly as you like! Cheers! Mitch
Life in the Peloton is proudly brought to you by MAAP Welcome to the first Communiqué for the 2024 season! First off, I'm delighted to say that my good mates Luke Durbridge and Tom Southam are back with me for another year. If you haven't heard it yet, the Communiqué is our pro racing specific podcast, and I couldn't think of a couple of better guys to have on board to get some great insight into the races. As well as being good friends of mine these two have years of experience in pro cycling with Luke currently racing for Jayco Alula and Tom who is a DS at EF Education Easypost. All through the racing season we will be diving inside the pelo with Luke, hearing the view from the team cars from Tom and, of course, I'll be providing my own armchair style take on the racing! For this first episode we've got an early season theme. After a good few weeks at home Luke is well settled in Perth, getting ready to start racing without having done any racing back in Australia – something he's – amazingly – never actually tried before! He reflects on the difference between starting early at races like TDU or kicking off in the more traditional European style. We discuss our thoughts on the way that the top riders tackle the off-season these days (or don't!). He also has some cracking tales from his legendary local bunchie - which I'll leave for you to enjoy. I've been on the ground at the Tour Down Under of course, and I'll bring you up to speed with the latest racing news, as well as a few of the things that grabbed my attention at the first World Tour race of the season. It's also been a busy period for Tom, who was DS-ing the early season Australian races. He takes us a bit deeper into the world of the DS and talks about some of the tactical detail of the recent races, as well as getting our thoughts on the why recently retired riders do so well in the team car. It was really great to get things going again making this pod. We all love the racing, whether we are doing it ourselves, talking about it, or even just watching and reading about it. Getting back together and getting into talking about the races was really exciting after the short break. Let's hope it's the start of a big year to come. Sit back, relax and have a listen to The Communiqué. Cheers! Mitch
Dave Rome is back on hosting duties with Matt de Neef and Gracie Elvin to chat about stages 2 and 3 of the women's Tour Down Under. Both days delivered potentially unsurprising but incredibly exciting victories, with some teams having to shift focus while others held firm to the plan. In its second year as a WorldTour event the Tour Down Under delivered a race worth watching, but will they add stages in the future? And what can we take away from TDU into the rest of the season?
