Most farming families don't fall apart because of bad intentions. They stall because the right conversations never quite happen. In this episode, Ben sits down with communication specialist Katie Godden to talk about the one skill that quietly determines whether families move forward together — or slowly drift out of alignment. It's the skill behind tough conversations that never get started, meetings that heat up too fast, and decisions that keep getting pushed down the road. Why do capable, hardworking families avoid the conversations they know matter? What actually causes things to escalate — or shut down completely — even when everyone wants the best outcome? And how do you raise sensitive issues without lighting the fuse or damaging relationships you can't afford to lose? This conversation cuts to the heart of what really holds families back — not strategy, not money, not effort — but how they communicate under pressure. If you've ever walked away from a discussion thinking “that didn't go how I hoped”, or felt the tension of unspoken issues building over time, this episode will hit close to home. It's practical. It's grounded in real family dynamics. And it speaks directly to anyone who knows their family, business, and future deserve better conversations than the ones they're currently having.----------------------------------------www.morrisseyco.com.au ----------------------------------Katie's communication training program, Grassroots Communication, teaches the exact skills, top families in ag use to increase trust, increase family alignment, and strengthen long-term relationships. If you want to get ahead of the game, head on over to katiegodden.com/grassroots and use the code AGRICOACH for 15% off.-----------------------Ben spent over 20 years working with successful business owners and farming families which allowed him to unearth the timeless principles on how to successfully grow, protect and maintain wealth. If you want to learn the principles of how to grow your family's wealth throughout the generations, then you might consider joining The AgriCoach Podcast each fortnight for more Wealth & Wisdom.Disclaimer: The information contained in this podcast is general in nature and for education purposes only. While prospects for women in tech and AI have improved over the years, women still comprise just a fraction of the tech workforce. Ayumi Moore Aoki is the founder of Women in Tech Global, an organization with a presence in over 60 countries around the world, one designed to empower women in the sector. She shares how a leaky talent pipeline makes opportunity harder to seize, what's needed at each stage of women's careers to bridge gaps and what leaders can do to ensure they make the most of their team's talents. She'll also explain what skills will be more important than ever for leaders in an AI-powered workforce, the question she asks herself now more than at any time in her career, and the one topic that will define AI in the months ahead. Lastly, this advocate and founder also details how her background has prepared her to run WTG, from her time in South Africa during apartheid to her lessons learned as an entrepreneur. Ian Stanley is a veteran online entrepreneur and one of the most respected email copywriters in the game. He built his reputation writing copy that has generated millions in sales, then used that skill to create a lifestyle business that funds his love for travel and stand-up comedy. In this episode, Ian breaks down how he went from broke college kid clicking on sketchy “make money online” offers to becoming the go-to guy for email copy—and how that one decision to master a single skill changed everything. On this episode we talk about: How Ian made his first $118.34 online during a college final—and why that moment convinced him he'd never need a “real job” again The decision to go all-in on email copywriting while everyone else tried to do everything and stayed broke Why your early 20s shouldn't be “grind only” and how you actually lose the skill of having fun if you over-optimize for hustle Using a “learn while you earn” job in your 20s to get paid to acquire rare skills and see real numbers, ad spend, and data from the inside How Ian helped scale companies from low to mid eight figures by obsessing over copy, email, and split tests The reality of pursuing art (like stand-up) vs. business—and how money buys you the freedom to go all-in on the thing you actually love Whether copywriting will still matter in an AI world and how to use AI without outsourcing your thinking Why writing is still the foundation of all great communication, speaking, and content—even if AI tools can draft your first version The trap of trying to automate yourself out of all “hard work” and why you only get paid for the work you don't want to do Top 3 Takeaways Master one valuable skill first—like copywriting or email marketing—before you try to build a complex business. Depth beats dabbling, especially early on. Your 20s are for both: have fun and develop skills. If you sacrifice fun completely, you risk becoming successful but miserable; if you sacrifice skills, you stay stuck. AI is a powerful amplifier, not a replacement for thinking. The winners will be those who understand good marketing, strategy, and ideas—and then use AI as a tool, not a crutch. Notable Quotes “Everybody online was trying to do everything and they were all poor. I decided I'd just get really good at copywriting.” “If you're in your 20s, you should be able to drink until 4 a.m., wake up at 7, and still get good work done. That's the time to do it all, to have fun.” “You only get paid for the work you don't want to do. If you outsource the one thing that actually matters in your business, what are you even here for?” Connect with Ian Stanley: Instagram (Comedy): https://www.instagram.com/ianstanleycomedy Instagram (Business/Marketing): https://www.instagram.com/almostpassiveincome Email List & Resources: https://getonmyfuckinglist.com Travis Makes Money is made possible by High Level – the All-In-One Sales & Marketing Platform built for agencies, by an agency. Why does so much marketing feel like it's written by the same AI bot, hitting all the same patterns of three and ending with those choppy period-heavy sentences that no human would actually write? In this episode, Kathryn breaks down the single most important skill to develop in your marketing, writing with context, nuance, and specificity that creates that visceral "oh my god that's me" recognition instead of staying at the concept level talking about burnout and procrastination without ever showing what that actually looks like, sounds like, and feels like for your people. She shares why concept-led messaging keeps people in their logical brain where they can rattle off 50 reasons your thing won't work, a client story about unparalleled transformational work missing the critical context that would make people stop scrolling, and why you only need three big ideas tested for 90 days rather than 7,000 different hooks that overwhelm you and make it impossible to assess what's actually working.BY THE TIME YOU FINISH LISTENING TO THIS EPISODE, YOU'LL DISCOVER:Why surface-level concepts like burnout, procrastination, or self-abandonment get filtered through someone's logical brain where they immediately start listing all the reasons your solution won't work for them (I've tried everything, my situation is different, how do you know what my burnout is like), and how getting specific with what it looks like, sounds like, feels like bypasses the mental chatter and lands in that gut-level recognition that moves someone to work with you.The AI-isms you need to strip from your writing to avoid sounding like everyone else, patterns of three (you are not broken, you are not procrastinating, you are not self-sabotaging), very short truncated sentences ending in periods with no flow, and the "it isn't this, it's that" construction that's everywhere now. And why even brilliant writers who aren't trained marketers can't assess whether AI-generated sales copy is actually good marketing because they don't have the lens to evaluate it, just like Kathryn wouldn't be able to edit a novel or create a health program without the trained expertise in those fields. How one psychologist went viral on Instagram and TikTok by taking the concept of intrusive thoughts (something well-known to psychologists but not the general public) and giving it specific context that made hundreds of thousands of people go "oh my god that's me, I thought I was crazy, I thought I had a problem," and why your job as a marketer is to take the concepts you understand deeply (because of your training and experience) and build the context that creates recognition for people who don't have that same frame of reference. Why you need to pick 2-3 big ideas maximum and test them for 90 days with multiple variations rather than trying 7,000 different hooks, and how proper testing means you can't post something twice on Instagram, get no engagement, and conclude "that idea sucked" because any scientist will tell you that you can't draw conclusions from asking two people, which means you need to give yourself enough time to collect actual data while varying the format, the wording, the images, and getting curious about what's working instead of throwing a tantrum when something doesn't pop off immediately. And while you're here, follow us on Instagram @creativelyowned for more daily inspiration on effortlessly attracting the most aligned clients without spending hours marketing your business or chasing clients. Send us a textJanuary has a very specific way of messing with people-pleasing perfectionists. We start the year with big intentions—this will be the year we exercise, sleep, get our notes done, take better care of ourselves. And then… reality hits. Clinic runs late. Staffing falls apart. The inbox explodes. And somehow, we decide we are the problem. In this episode, I want you to hear this clearly: you are not failing. You're just missing one skill—and it's a skill you can absolutely learn.Today, we talk about the one practice that quietly changes everything: learning to delight yourself, and tolerating the discomfort that comes with not meeting everyone else's needs. We break this down in a very physician-appropriate way (yes, there's a 2×2 matrix), and we name the trap so many of us are stuck in: delighting everyone else while constantly disappointing ourselves. In this episode, we explore:Why people-pleasing perfectionists feel ambushed every JanuaryHow medical training wires us for struggle, sacrifice, and self-criticismThe hidden cost of constantly trying to undo other people's disappointmentThe 2×2 “delight vs. disappoint” matrix—and where physicians get stuckWhy delighting yourself feels like disappointing others (even when it isn't)How practicing delight expands your bandwidth, generosity, and effectivenessSimple, everyday ways to practice savoring—not scrollingWhy leaving a job or changing circumstances isn't enough without this skillThis is not about indulgence. It's not about checking out or caring less. It's about learning to take care of yourself without abandoning the people you care about—and without abandoning yourself.Your invitation this week:Choose five small sources of delight already in your life.Notice them. Most golfers think improvement just comes from better swing mechanics.Andy Proudman and Piers Ward from Me And My Golf disagree, and in this episode, they explain why focus, flow, and attention matter more than most golfers realize.Recorded a couple of years ago, this conversation captures the foundation of what elite coaches understand about performance. The skill most golfers ignore isn't confidence, positivity, or even preparation. It's the ability to intentionally control attention under pressure, knowing what to focus on, when to focus, and what to ignore when it matters most. In this episode, we cover:✅ Why most golfers never access their best performance✅ The difference between preparation and presence✅ How elite players use questions to control attention✅ Why more swing tips often make golfers worse, not better✅ How Me And My Golf coach players to play better, not just swing better✅ The role of flow, focus, and physiology in real performance✅ Why improvement is easier than golfers make itIf you want to stop overthinking, stop chasing swing fixes, and start performing closer to your potential, this episode will change how you see improvement.

Worksheet: Drawing Your Lines BoundariesImagine living in a house with no walls, no doors, and no fences. Anyone could walk in at any time—tracking mud on your carpet, eating your food, or sleeping on your couch without asking. You'd feel exposed, anxious, and exhausted. For many people in recovery, this is exactly how they treat their emotional lives. They leave doors wide open, letting people walk all over their time, energy, and peace of mind because they don't know how to build fences.Download The WorksheetIn this episode of The Addicted Mind Plus, hosts Duane Osterlind and Eric Osterlind tackle one of the most critical skills for protecting your recovery: setting healthy boundaries. If you've ever felt that knot in your stomach when someone asks for something you don't want to give—your time, your money, your emotional energy—and heard yourself saying "yes" anyway, this episode is for you.The painful truth is that when we don't set boundaries, we accumulate resentment. And as the saying goes in recovery rooms everywhere, "resentment is the number one offender." It leads directly to stress, emotional chaos, and eventually relapse. If you can't protect your space, you can't protect your sobriety. But why is saying "no" so terrifying, especially in early recovery? Duane and Eric explore the deep fears behind our inability to set limits—the fear of rejection, abandonment, and disappointing others. For many of us, especially those with childhood trauma, we learned early on that we had to perform for our caretakers to receive love. Setting boundaries felt dangerous then, and it still feels dangerous now.Using insights from the evidence-based Seeking Safety Model, developed specifically for people dealing with both trauma and addiction, the hosts break down what healthy boundaries actually look like. They're not rigid walls that shut everyone out—they're more like gates or fences. You get to decide who comes in and who stays out. You get to teach people how to treat you.The episode covers three essential types of boundaries: physical boundaries (your personal space and body), emotional boundaries (protecting your feelings and not taking responsibility for others' emotions), and time/energy boundaries (protecting your schedule and preventing burnout). As Brené Brown famously said, "Daring to set boundaries is about having the courage to love ourselves even when we risk disappointing others."But knowing you need boundaries and actually setting them are two different things. Duane and Eric provide a simple but powerful formula for expressing your needs without starting a fight. Using "I statements," you can communicate clearly: "I feel [emotion] when you [specific behavior], and I need [specific request or limit]." Instead of attacking someone by saying, "You're so annoying, stop talking about my past," you might say, "I feel uncomfortable and triggered when you bring up my past substance use in casual conversation. I need us to agree that we won't talk about this unless I bring it up first."The key mindset shift? You're not controlling the other person—you're protecting yourself. A boundary isn't about forcing someone to stop their behavior; it's about what you will do if they cross your line. If a friend pushes you to have "just one drink," your boundary might mean saying, "I think it's time for me to leave."This episode comes with a free downloadable worksheet that breaks down the "I statement" formula and gives you space to script out your boundaries before you have to say them out loud. Because as Duane reminds us, when we don't make our boundaries clear ahead of time, our feelings get in the way—guilt, fear, and shame can make our boundaries collapse.Remember: good fences make good neighbors, and great boundaries make for solid recovery. The danger of no boundaries: How leaving your emotional life wide open leads to resentment, stress, and relapseWhy saying "no" feels terrifying: Understanding our deep fears of rejection, abandonment, and disappointing othersThree types of essential boundaries: Physical, emotional, and time/energy boundaries that protect your recoveryThe "I statement" formula: A simple but powerful tool for expressing boundaries without attacking othersBoundaries vs. walls: Learning the difference between healthy gates that let the right people in and rigid barriers that isolate youProtecting yourself, not controlling others: Understanding that boundaries are about what YOU will do, not forcing others to changeSelf-respect as a recovery skill: Why setting boundaries is actually an act of self-love, not selfishnessTimestamp[00:00:40] - The house with no walls: Why living without boundaries leaves you exposed and exhausted[00:03:00] - That knot in your stomach: Recognizing when you're saying "yes" but feeling resentful[00:04:30] - Why boundaries protect sobriety: How resentment becomes the number one offender leading to relapse[00:06:00] - The three types of boundaries: Physical, emotional, and time/energy protection explained[00:09:00] - The practical formula: Learning the "I feel/when you/I need" boundary-setting statement[00:12:30] - The crucial mindset shift: Understanding you're protecting yourself, not controlling others[00:14:00] - Your two-step action plan: Identifying where you need boundaries and scripting your "I statements"See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

I discuss why mastering your own internal fire—your anger, impulses, and emotions—is the key to shifting from being perceived as a potential predator to a trusted protector. Technology has changed everything about the service advisor role, but it has not replaced the one thing that matters most: people. In this episode of Maximum Octane, Kim Hickey and Jason Patel sit down with Michelle Wood, ATI's Sales and Service Instructor, to discuss the myths and realities of being a great service advisor in a world of automation, AI, and endless new tools.Michelle shares her journey from dealership receptionist to national trainer and reflects on how the role of service advisors has evolved with technology. She explains how tools like DVIs and automation can improve efficiency, but they cannot replace genuine human connection. Customers do not just want updates. Send me a message The One Skill That Changes EverythingEvery agent thinks success comes from tactics: the right script, a viral video, or nailing that open house. But that's not what separates the average from the top 1%. The agents who dominate their markets all have one thing in common. It's not lead gen. It's not branding. It's not even marketing. It's confidence.Confidence is the multiplier. It's what makes every tactic you already know actually work. When you walk into a listing presentation, when you record that video, when you negotiate on behalf of your client—confidence is what makes people trust you and hire you. And here's the best part: it's not something you're born with. Confidence is a skill, and you can build it.In this episode, I'll break down exactly how to do it. Tactical, step-by-step, no fluff. You'll Learn: • Why clients hire certainty over anything else • The fastest ways to build confidence even if you're brand new • How stacking small wins rewires your brain • Why role play and rehearsal give you an unfair advantage • How to reframe rejection so it fuels you instead of cripples you • The confidence hacks that pro athletes use that you can stealThis isn't another motivational pep talk. Today, Ceri talks about the one skill that completely changed her life. Not a new app, not a productivity hack, but negotiation. As a recovering people-pleaser, Ceri used to dread negotiating with challenging people. She´d avoid it, overgive, or undercharge. When Ceri faced a challenging experience with a narcissist that nearly overwhelmed her, she learned from negotiation expert Kwame Christian. Since then, negotiation has empowered her to get paid fairly, build healthier collaborations, and stand her ground—even in tough situations. Whether you're selling a piece of work, applying for a commission, or setting the terms for a group show—you are negotiating. So, let Ceri get you ready to do it with confidence and care. KEY TAKEAWAYS Before negotiating know what you want and why, learn about who you're negotiating with, and acknowledge your feelings. Preparation is crucial—ask yourself questions to clarify goals, needs, and possible barriers. Research the other person. Stick to your values and boundaries. BEST MOMENTS “Negotiation has become a superpower. It´s helped me get paid properly, build healthier collaborations and feel more grounded even in tricky situations.” “No is not failure. Your time, energy and sanity have got value, and sometimes walking away is the wisest decision.” “Practice makes powerful. Practice your negotiation skills in low-risk settings first.” EPISODE RESOURCES Kwame Christian - https://negotiateanything.com HOST BIO With over 35 years in the art world, Ceri has worked closely with leading artists and arts professionals, managed public and private galleries and charities, and curated more than 250 exhibitions and events. This episode explains what is arguably the best career advice you'll hear this week: the one skill that signifies seniority in software engineers is the ability to synthesise and optimise for multiple factors at once. Instead of focusing on a single factor, such as performance or maintainability, senior engineers identify and weigh the various trade-offs involved in any decision.Discover the key skill that distinguishes a senior engineer: It's the ability to synthesise multiple, competing factors—like performance, maintainability, cost, and time to market—rather than focusing on just one.Learn why single-factor thinking can hold you back: Junior engineers often optimise for what they know best or what is easiest to measure, which can harm the overall solution, the team, and their professional reputation.Understand how to demonstrate seniority in interviews and at work: You can show your maturity and wisdom by identifying the crucial trade-offs for any given problem, asking what factors need to be balanced, and exploring options that might satisfy multiple goals at once.Explore how to find better solutions by thinking in trade-offs: The goal isn't just to make sacrifices; often, the mark of a great senior engineer is finding a third option that effectively balances or optimises for multiple important factors simultaneously.Start practising this skill today: Challenge yourself to identify what you are giving up with any decision and consider factors you don't normally prioritise. Ask "What am I saying no to?" to develop this crucial skill.
