Hello and welcome back to the Constant Reader Podcast, with me Richard Sheppard. Thanks for your kind words about my last interview with James Michels, author of the Melody of Shattered Gold, which is now available on amazon. It's well worth picking up, the ending is a real gut punch, and the journey is a wild ride. Speaking of wild rides, today we are going to be looking at the third volume in King's Dark Tower Series, the Wastelands. If i complained last time that the Drawing of the Three didn't really have Roland and ka-tet travelling very far, this volume more than makes up for it. It begins with Roland and Jake chambers fixing the psychic rupture caused by Roland abandoning Jake in the Gunslinger, and then going back to fix it by killing Jake's assassins Jack Mort. It then moves on to the journey to the City of Lud, caught in a Civil War. This is resolved in apocalyptic fashion and the group barely manage to escape the cataclysm on a sentient, suicidal monorail. Heady stuff, and I am honored and privileged as always to have the first lady of Stephen King podcasters, Kim C herself, with me on the quest for the Dark Tower. Kim is a university lecturer in creative writing, who has been educating and entertaining the Stephen King fanbase for a while now with her podcast, The Year of Underrated Stephen King and it's patreon, the Danse Macabre

On this horror lit episode, we discuss ALL 8 books from the horror master Stephen King in his sprawling magnum opus: The Dark Tower saga! We were very excited to be able to cover these iconic books. With hosts Candy the Final Girl and Shawnofthedead, Erica Wright, Crystal, and Dave Gherman.
We've done our spoiler-lite Dark Tower episodes... this is not one of those! Everything in the books is up for debate, including reading order, character deaths and, of course, that ending. So, beware of spoilers!
On episode 53 I talk with Dimitry Gershenson of Enduring Planet. Enduring Planet provides growth capital for climate entrepreneurs, they offer rapid financing without dilution, personal guarantees, or collateral.Climate has quickly become one of the most interesting topics out there today. There is a lot of discussion around the topic but depending on where you live the action being taken differs widely. For Dimitry and the Enduring Planet team, the climate is not just a job, it's a passion. When talking to Dimitry you begin to understand that a lot has started to change but there is still monumental work to be completed.Enduring Planet is doing its part to help fill the giant capital hole that exists in climate change. There is a chasm of underinvestment overall. Without more firms like Enduring Planet and their portfolio companies, we will continue to see the devastating impacts of climate change increase. There is hope, the momentum is starting to build and there are a lot of exciting founder stories that are all helping to make needed change. Dimitry and I talk about the types of founders they fund, why they decided to structure the firm the way they did, raising capital, and a whole lot more. So without further ado, I present Dimitry Gershenson of Enduring Planet. I hope you all enjoy the show and be prepared to learn:Dimitry's journey to Enduring PlanetLessons from emerging marketsWhy the climate conversation has started to change in the last 10 yearsWe underinvest in the climate between $3 - $5 trillionThey have a broad definition of climate focused fintechWhy the last couple of years has give Dimitry hope about the climateWhy they structured Enduring Planet the way they didBiggest lesson learned - capital education is neededBest advice received - it's a marathon, not a sprintRecommended reading - Dark Tower Series by Stephen KingAnd much more...

In this episode we discuss The Gunslinger by Stephen King, the first book in his Dark Tower Series. We have our friend and fellow book club member Amanda joining us for this episode because she is a big Stephen King fan. Our plan is to sprinkle some King novels into the mix and have Amanda join us for those episodes so we can take advantage of her experience with his works. This is Gabriela's first King novel btw, I know, jumping in the deep end. Wish her luck!

Hamilton’s works [link] Counter-Example: Brandon Sanderson’s steep learning curves in the Stormlight Archives [link] -Juxtaposition the familiar with the unfamiliar (Sanderson’s chickens) Example: Richard K. Morgan’s Altered Carbon series [link] -How to get there? Technology for science fiction. Example: Josh Haye’s Link in Valor series Example: Peter F. Hamilton’s cybersphere in Commonwealth Universe Example: Babylon 5 aliens [Vorlons and Shadows] -What about urban fantasy? Putting a price on the power. Less of a price for superheroes. Chuck Explains Pocket Dimensions in Dr. Strange. Example: Chuck’s Master of Hounds: The Pickman Files #1 [link] -Enlightening the reader through a story or skeptic to introduce to the unbelievable Example: Joe Abercrombie’s First Law Trilogy [link] -How do we get the believability? [31:00] Sponsor: Ralph Kern’s A Rain of Fire (The Great War #1) [link] [35:45] Main Event: Making the Unreal Real, Continued! -Using a Mary Sue or a rookie character to show the reader the unreal. -Portal fantasy where you bring someone from the real world directly into the unreal world. Example: George R.R. Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire series with low magic and grounded in reality. [link] Example: Dan Simmon’s Hyperion Cantos [link] -Too much unreal may not stick with the reader. The sequel to my conversation about The Dark Tower Series with Scott Root! We cover books 5 - 7 as well as the recent film adaptation starring Idris Elba and how we might approach adapting the series to television (as will inevitably happen). Give Scott a follow on IG or Twitter @notablyscott and find all of my stuff on TylerEaton.net!
Writer-friend-collaborator Scott Root takes us to Mid-World in our conversation about the entire Dark Tower series by Stephen King. We've got stoic gunslingers, we've got doors to alternate dimensions, we've got giant lobsters that'll tear your fingers off! The series is so enormous that it had to be broken into two episodes, so here's part one which covers the first four books: "The Gunslinger", "The Drawing of the Three", "The Wastelands", and "Wizard and Glass". Follow Scott on Twitter and Instagram @NotablyScott and find all of my stuff on TylerEaton.net!
Ross is joined in studio with Kayla S. and they discuss the concept of Irina, the healing madness, from the Last book of the Dark Tower Series by Stephen King. I highly suggest you give that series a read. https://spiritualphoenixstudios.com https://oracleatmushin.com --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/spiritual-phoenix-podcast/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/spiritual-phoenix-podcast/support

Hile DTP Ka-Tet, Tadd and Peter come together and discuss the latest news which include CinemaCon where the TRAILER WAS SHOWN! Sadly the trailer still has not been released for the rest of us to see. So Tadd and Peter read through the many descriptions of the footage/trailer and get a pretty good picture not only of what was scene but how it was received. The articles about the footage came from both fans of The Series and newbies so much is learned from this. As well as they talk about ANOTHER DELAY in the film's release! They talk about what this delay means and how it impacts the outlook for the film. As well as a pathetic lawsuit against Uncle Stevie because of The Dark Tower Series. There is also some new Dark Tower Merchandise coming in the fall. As well as a return of the extended Ka-Tet by way of emails! So snuggle up with your Bumbler and enjoy this jam packed show! Engage with DTP on Social Media to Palaver between shows. Also check out the show notes at DarkTowerPalaver(dot)com for links to all the articles and pictures mentioned in this podcast.
Hop into your nearest portal, and come into another world with Hip Squared Episode 12! John talks about Stephen King's strange and gripping fantasy saga, The Dark Tower Series, a story that involves the Gunslinger, Roland, and his obsessive for the tower's secrets, among them many parallel dimensions, including our own. All seven books were penned by Stephen King, one of the world's best-selling and most talented horror and fantasy writers. They're now being adapted into a movie starring Idris Elba as the Gunslinger, and the saga was also adapted into a series of audiobooks, all magnificently read and performed by Frank Muller. Troy pulls us into the digital wonderland of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, the latest game in one of Nintendo's most beloved series, now out on the Nintendo Switch. Instead of the gameplay (though we tread lightly on that too) we focus on the new Zelda's gorgeous and immersive atmosphere, its cell-shaded, fantastical art style, and we compare it not only to its companion games on other Nintendo systems, but to all kinds of games that rely on the charm of their environments for part of their appeal. Maplex Monk is on the ones and twos.
