In this episode, Robin Merttens sits down with Haris Khan and Arved Pohlabeln, co-founders of Novee, to unpack what's broken in specialty underwriting — and how AI is finally in a position to fix it. Having met as consultants at Deloitte, Haris and Arved kept encountering the same themes: overworked underwriters, inconsistent submissions, and transformation efforts that rarely made a real difference. That frustration turned into action. Today, they're building Novee — an AI assistant designed specifically for underwriters, combining insight generation with targeted automation. In this conversation, Haris and Arved share: Why underwriting processes remain complex, fragmented and hard to standardise What makes specialty submissions so variable — and why every case feels like an edge case How Novee delivers value in two ways: by surfacing better risk insights and automating manual tasks Why underwriters are embracing AI tools now — not resisting them What it takes to get live in weeks, not months, with meaningful value The real-world impact of extracting information from unstructured submissions How they raised £1.6 million in seed funding and what they're doing with it Why verticalised AI is outperforming generic solutions in insurance What it means to redesign underwriting interaction patterns — and why inbox to insight is the future The case for using AI before you fix your data, not after Sign up to the InsTech newsletter for a fresh view on the world every Wednesday morning. Haris Ikram, Co-founder and CEO of CandorIQ, and Chad Atwell, Head of Customer Success and Advisory Services at CandorIQ, join us this episode to discuss the critical, yet often disconnected, relationship between HR and finance in workforce planning. They explore why these teams often operate in silos and how they can collaborate more effectively on headcount and compensation to drive business success. The conversation also gets into the changing definition of the workforce, the role of data in strategic planning, and how AI is shaping the future of work and employee skills. [0:00] Introduction Welcome, Haris and Chad! Today's Topic: Bridging the Gap Between HR and Finance in Workforce Planning [5:50] Why HR and finance teams don't collaborate, even though they should The different objectives driving each team. How to manage a multifaceted and flexible approach to getting work done in the modern economy. [20:06] What's workforce planning and what challenges might be present? Workforce planning is about having the right people—and now AI agents—in place to get the work done. How to manage a multifaceted and flexible approach to getting work done in the modern economy. [37:53] How AI and agents are influencing workforce planning How AI is automating tactical work, creating a greater need for employees with skills in critical thinking, creativity, and strategy. The importance of measuring the true productivity impact of AI over time, and why companies must be thoughtful about its implementation. [43:46] Closing Thanks for listening! Quick Quote “Layoffs cause an immense amount of harm for the companies as well. I mean, there's lots of research out there that will show dips or even just outright dives in company confidence, people's belief in future career opportunities, confidence in leadership.”
Resûlullâh (s.a.v.) şöyle buyurur: “Kim bana çeneleri ile bacakları arasındakiler husûsunda garanti verirse, ben de ona cennet husûsunda garanti veririm.” Resûlullâh (s.a.v.), Muâz b. Cebel (r.a.)'e de şöyle demiştir: “İnsanları yüzlerinin üstüne ateşe atan, dilleriyle kazandıklarından başka bir şey midir?” Yine Resûlullâh (s.a.v.) şöyle buyurmuştur: “Sizi fuzûlî konuşma husûsunda uyarırım. Her birinize ihtiyâcını karşıladığı kadarıyla söz yeter. “Allâh, her konuşan kişinin konuşmasında hazırdır.
Binâenaleyh ayetin manası, "Sizin cehennemegirmeniz ihtimaline karşı, size son derece düşkündür" şeklindedir."İbn Abbas (radıyallahü anh) şöyle demiştir: "Allahü teâlâ, peygamberini, kendi isimlerinden bu iki isimleisimlendirmiştir."Allah'a itaatten ve peygamberi tasdikten yüz çevirirlerse;Bu sûrede ele alınan, bahsedilen güç teklifleri kabul etmekten yüz çevirirlerse,d) Cihadda sana yardım etmekten yüz çevirirlerse, manaları verilmiştir.
This episode is a conversation between architect and Atelier Bow-Wow-founding-member Momoyo Kiajima and curator Haris Giannouras. It was recorded right after the opening of the exhibition Suturing Together by Atelier Bow-Wow on 12 September 2025. Their discussion focuses on care work in architecture, books and their forms in designing and understanding the build environment, 1980s Japanese comedy shows, Sutemi Horiguchi, and the importance of love in building someone's home. Atelier Bow-Wow Suturing Together 12.9. – 16.11.2025 The exhibition Suturing Together includes a site-specific intervention covering almost the entire right arch of the Secession's foyer, an extended archive showing the studio's practice spanning over the last 30 years, a thatch-seating made using thatch in collaboration with students from Vienna and a poster with detailed essays and an analytical index of Atelier Bow-Wow's past projects. Keysân'a: “Bana öğüt ver.” dedi.
Nerede Allâh (c.c.)'a yakınlığı ile sevinen?! General Nasution's journey from insurgent to Army commander and strategist fighting against communist insurgents in Indonesia is described by Colonel Dr Almuchalif Suryo. Trained by the Dutch as part of the Netherlands East Indies Army, General Abdel Haris Nasution (1918-2000) fought with them against the Japanese during the Second World War and then against them for Indonesian independence. Having become an expert guerilla commander, he was then charged with creating Indonesia's state army, a force that had to unite elements trained by the Dutch and the Japanese, as well as citizen soldiers. One of the first tasks of this new army was to counter a communist insurgency in which Nasution himself was a target. Narrowly surviving an assassination attempt that killed his 8-year old daughter, he fell afoul of Indonesia's politics and was removed from post by President Sukarno. Nasution was rehabilitated under President Suharto before the two fell out. Towards the end of Nasution's life, they reconciled, and Nasution became one of only three five-star generals in Indonesia's history. Colonel Dr Almuchalif Suryo was an infantry officer in the Indonesian Army, where he was the school commander of the Combatant Training Centre and Head of Total War Study at the Republic of Indonesia Defence University. Now retired, he still lectures there. He speaks to us in a personal capacity. FURTHER READING Abdul Haris Nasution, Fundamentals of Guerrilla Warfare, Frederick A. Praeger, 1965. If you're a motorcyclist living and riding in the U.S., Nick Haris works for you. Even more so if you're one of the more than 200,000 members of the American Motorcyclist Association, whose tagline is “Rights, Riding, and Racing.” Haris leads a team of six who comprise the AMA's government-relations department. Their job is to protect your rights as a motorcyclist in the halls of government. In the second of two interviews with Haris, “Driven to Ride” host Mark Long digs into significant issues facing 21st-century motorcyclists, such as autonomous vehicles. “If this technology cannot recognize and respond correctly to other road users,” states Haris, “and I don't care if it is a pedestrian, a bicyclist, a motorcycle, or another car, it shouldn't be allowed on public roads.”Haris sheds light on other hot-button subjects, like alternative energy, helmet laws, land management, and lane filtering. “I often say, ‘Ten percent of the world has an opinion about motorcycling. They're in favor of it—you and I. Ten percent have some reason they don't like it. And then, 80% don't care.' So, let's not move them into the, ‘I don't like motorcycling category,' by doing something stupid.'” Connect with Us:Website: www.driventoridepodcast.comInstagram: www.Instagram.com/driventoridepodcastFacebook: www.facebook.com/driventorideEmail:hello@driventoridepodcast.com

Motorcycling and politics don't mix, right? They do for Nick Haris. In college, the Washington state native was an economics major and worked at a motorcycle shop. Degree in hand, he applied for his dream job: a government-relations role at the American Motorcyclist Association. “It was just kind of a natural combination of that interest in politics and that love for motorcycling,” he says.In 2023, after more than 20 years on the job, Haris was made director of the AMA's Government Relations department. In the first of two interviews with “Driven to Ride” host Mark Long, Haris reiterates something we all know, that motorcyclists are a relatively small portion of the U.S. population. “If we look for reasons to divide ourselves,” he says, “we're not going to have a lot of success.”Spending long, memorable days in the saddle gives Haris time to think about the future of our country. “Reality is,” he says, “it's the city council that makes the decision or the board of supervisors that sets the zoning rule that really probably affects you more on a daily basis than anything that Congress is going to do. Day to day, it's the locals that you really need to get to know.” Good advice. He emphasised that diplomatic negotiations would only proceed when Ukraine feels “strong enough” to deter further military actions by Russia, ensuring a stable resolution to the conflict. *) Bangladesh denounces attack on its consulate in India Bangladesh has strongly condemned a violent attack on its consulate in Agartala, the capital of India's northeastern state of Tripura, calling the incident preplanned. Beetlejuice Beetlejuice cinematographer Haris Zambarloukos loved the original 1988 Beetlejuice as a young adult. With Beetlejuice cinematographer Thomas Ackerman as his inspiration, Haris wanted to pay homage to the first movie while pushing the boundaries of cinematic storytelling. “It was fun to make,” says Haris. “We really did enjoy ourselves, and it was a huge collaborative effort. It was a real delight and a pleasure to bring this to screen.” Haris chose to shoot Beetlejuice Beetlejuice on the Sony Venice 2. He likes the camera's ability to deliver a high-fidelity image with low-light sensitivity, which was perfectly suited for the film's atmospheric and often dimly lit settings. He worked closely with director Tim Burton to develop a meticulous lighting plan that would create an immersive and atmospheric environment for the actors. The spaces were designed to be functional in-camera, allowing for a more organic and spontaneous approach to lighting. The film's unique blend of live-action and animatronics was a high-stakes balancing act requiring exceptional coordination between the camera crew, lighting team, actors, and puppeteers. “On top of that, you've got Michael's incredible performance as Beetlejuice, which is full of energy,” says Haris. “And at that pace and that energy level, you only have so many takes. Then there's a camera move and 20 or 30 lighting cues just in a single 15 second take and that all has to work. So, in essence, we're all performing, and we don't want to let anyone down because the person that makes a mistake is the one that ruins it for everyone. I've never been on a film where we all worked in unison that way. But that's probably because I've only made one Tim Burton film, and there's no one else that works quite like him.” To create a distinctive visual language for the underworld, Haris used a palette of green and blue tones. Working with Burton, they pre-programmed RGB spectrum LED lighting for precise color control and creation of unique lighting patterns. The team was able to test and pre-light for a "repertoire" of looks that could be easily accessed and modified during filming. Haris used ARRI SkyPanel lights to control the time of day, creating a very theatrical, impressionistic effect of a lit sky outside the windows of the sets.
