Has anyone ever affected your ability to believe in yourself as an artist? Singer/Actor Charlotte Moore is joining the conversation on Cue To Cue today to share how people influenced her confidence as a performer and the battles she faced to overcome self-doubt. She will help us reevaluate how we speak to ourselves and how it impacts our self-assurance. In this episode: Practicing gratitude when things don't turn up as planned Impact of having positive conversations with ourselves How Social Media affects your castability Importance of saving in an artist's life A little about Charlotte: Daughter of Mavor Moore (Order of Canada, Governor General's Award), grand-daughter of Dora Mavor Moore (after whom Toronto's annual Theatre Awards are named), and one of Canada's most dynamic performers, Charlotte has been on the scene for over thirty-five years, mostly in her first love, musical theatre. A recipient of the 1990 Dora Mavor Moore Award, (also known at Charlotte's house as a "Granny"), for her work in The Rocky Horror Show, Charlotte has had the great good fortune of working across the country with some pretty amazing people. Most recently she appeared as Marilla in Anne of Green Gables at The Charlottetown Festival. She has twice appeared in Gypsy – once as "Louise", and once as "Rose" – eighteen years apart. She also managed the same trick with "Lucy" in You're A Good Man, Charlie Brown. She played "Fantine" in Les Miserables across the country opposite Craig Shulman, and her favourite role to date is definitely as the sole woman in Stan Rogers - A Matter of Heart. She spent a season in Robin Phillips' Grand Theatre Company , and three wonderful seasons at the Shaw Festival, culminating in the unforgettable Jackie Maxwell production of Sondheim's Merrily We Roll Along. Charlotte has also done a lot more shows you'd recognize, but her real passion are the ones you probably won't – the Canadian shows that she has had the pleasure of being in. Shows by Leslie Arden, Jim Betts, Cathy Elliott, Joey Miller, and a whole host of other folks – a lot of whom are represented on her CD, "Friends of Mine". It features fifteen songs from shows past and present, only one of which had been recorded before. For more information, check out the Music page. Jahlen Barnes is a Dora Mavor Moore award winning actor.
Actor, Tony Nappo is joining me on Cue To Cue Today! I think it is safe to say that Tony is an outspoken person who is definitely not afraid to express his feelings and opinions. Tony has a column in Intermission Magazine, Nappoholics Anonymous, where he expresses such opinions and feelings. It’s pretty great. I definitely got to meet the outspoken guy who writes the column but I also felt I got to meet this other part of Tony. At one point I asked him what is a misperception that he believes people might have about him, and he answered that sometimes he thinks that people may think he is pretty accessible and easy to get to know but that they may not know him as well as they think they do. He isn’t always this outspoken, cheeky person who likes to make jokes; there is a sadness about him that he doesn’t show. Tony leaves nothing on the table in this episode and brings a level of vulnerability that only a few guests have brought to the podcast. I actually feel really honoured to have had this conversation with Tony. Only he really knows, but I feel like he does give the listener a chance to peek inside and get to know him better during this episode. Oh ya, we also talk about how he has a crush on Zac Efron. A Little about Tony: Tony Nappo was born and raised in Scarborough, Ontario. He went on to study acting in New York at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts. He is a theatrical staple in Toronto and has worked in many high-profile Hollywood films including Born to be Blue, Four Brothers, Saw2, Land of the Dead, and Murder at 1600. He has appeared in endless independent films including This Beautiful City, Beat Down, Stag, You Might As Well Live and The Rainbow Kid. He voices the lead character, Jimmy Falcone, in the hit animated series Fugget About It and has appeared in over a hundred episodes of television including Shoot The Messenger, Remedy, Flashpoint, Killjoys, Rookie Blue, Conviction, Breakout Kings, Saving Hope and Davinci's Inquest. He has been nominated for a Canadian Screen Award, an Actra Award, a Broadway World Award and most recently, A Dora Mavor Moore award. Follow Tony! Hey Firecrackers! Welcome back to the department, this week we have none other than the amazing Anusree Roy as our guest! Anusree is a Dora Mavor Moore award winning playwright and actress. Her stage work includes the plays ‘Breathlessness’, ’Sultans of the Street’,‘Brothel #9’, and ‘Little Pretty and The Exceptional’, amongst many more. Her television work includes the shows ‘Saving Hope’ and ‘Remedy’, the latter she was a story editor on for the first season. Now I’ve know Anusree for quite some time. We first met when my company, The National Theatre of the World was doing this thing called ‘The Script Tease’. We’d ask a playwright to write two pages of a script and we’d read it for the first time on stage and then improvise the rest of the play. So, Anusree said yes and her direction was for the cast to be wearing a sari and speak with an Indian accent. This was a new challenge for me and I LOVED it! Oh and as a kicker, Anusree showed up with snacks, she brought us all samosas because she is just incredible. Our chat this time around is truly incredible, Anusree talks a lot about what its taken for her to become a writer and the challenges she faces as an artist. Enjoy, Firecrackers!
Rebecca is an innovative artists and a creative entrepreneur. I Interviewed Rebecca after a performance of her show "Blind Date," an improvisational show unlike anything I've ever seen before. Rebecca is truly a theatre innovator. Rebecca recently won a Dora Mavor Moore award for her performance in "Blind Date" and her other show, "Legend Has It," just got nominated for a Betty Mitchell Award in Calgary in the category of Best Ensemble. We talk about how a 10 minute theatre experiment turned into a full-length show that played off-Broadway and London's West End.
