On the Saturday April 13, 2024 edition of the Richard Crouse Show we'll meet Phil Heath. Fans of bodybuilding will recognize his name as a seven-time Mr. Olympia winner, having won the competition every year from 2011 to 2017. His incredible athletic career was slowed by health concerns, but his strength of character and intensity is captured in a new film co-produced by Dwayne Johnson, “Breaking Olympia: The Phil Heath Story,” which is now available on the SuperChannel. It's the untold story of how he battled back from injury in his quest to become the greatest of all. Later on we'll meet Tassie Cameron. Tassie is an award-winning screenwriter who was the head writer and executive producer on the series Rookie Blue and creator of the show Pretty Hard Cases. Today we're talking about her latest gig, as the producer of “Law and Order Toronto: Criminal Intent.” We talk about the show, and what it takes to quote, unquote, play a dead body on the legendary franchise.

When Tassie Cameron first saw the opening credits for Law and Order Toronto: Criminal Intent, complete with the iconic DUN DUN sound effect, she felt a shiver up her spine. It was Cameron who was entrusted with the legendary series' first foray beyond American borders, serving as show runner and head writer for the Canadian franchise. Tassie says Toronto is a natural fit, with its diverse population, distinct neighbourhoods and yes, rampant crime scene. There are differences, however, in our criminal justice system, and those can pose a challenge, along with the demanding responsibility to get the show right. Tassie Cameron has a shiny resume, having written and produced a slew of award winning TV series such as Pretty Hard Cases, Flashpoint, Rookie Blue and Degrassi: The Next Generation. The daughter of crime reporter Stevie Cameron, Tassie grew up with the need to know whydunit as much as who. We talk about crime and corruption, using a Canadian cast and crew, and how Toronto is finally ready for its close-up. You Can watch this episode on YouTube. Musician, Artist, and Artist Advocate, Brad Lyons is joining the conversation on Cue To Cue Today!  Today is part is the second half of a two-part conversation.   Brad leaves nothing on the table in this episode opening up about his artistic journey. He also, throw down the gantlet in this episode and challenges every artist and every consumer of art to ask themselves hard questions about the current state of how we consume and acquire art.   In this episode: What constitutes a proper fan Why Artist's need to ask themselves about their own integrity How asking for what you need as an artist and risking offending someone is imperative to your success as an artist How art driven by data feedback is changing artist and the art itself.  Why he believes we need to start buying directly from the artists   Oceanship is the touring and recording musical enterprise of Brad Lyons — presently based in Waterdown, Ontario, Canada. One month into his science degree at University of Waterloo, Brad made the decision to focus on music. He ran an ad in the paper that read Experienced Singer Seeks Band, though he had no formal singing experience. Brad formed the band left Pencey, and five years later signed a record deal with ARISTA/BMG Records USA under then president LA Reid. In 2003, for reasons of artistic divergence, Brad parted company with left Pencey members and formed Oceanship. In 2006 the Oceanship EP was recorded. The self-titled EP, packaged in hand- stamped paper bags (as all Oceanship releases are), did well domestically and internationally resulting in a PBS feature of track All The Kids, an XM Radio Verge award, and an extensive tour of China. KCRW, the Los Angeles radio station famous for its discovery of emerging talent (Coldplay, Jeff Buckley), was quick to feature Oceanship’s track “Don’t Wear Me Out” on their “Morning Becomes Eclectic” program as Today’s Top Tune. Hotblack, another track from the album, went to #1 on commercial radio in Birmingham, Alabama, and its video was nominated for Best Music Video by The World Animation Film Festival alongside Coldplay. Multiple tracks from the Oceanship debut album have been placed in international TV shows such as One Tree Hill, Army Wives, The Border, Degrassi TGN, Rookie Blue, among others – fourteen TV shows and movies to date. In 2018 Brad released Bella Blue, the follow-up to his self titled album. While music is best listened to rather than described — especially by the artist — David Gordon, the former Warner A&R who signed some of the all-time music greats, including Prince, Dire Straits, and Van Halen, has this to say about it: "Bella Blue stacks up favorably with my all-time favorite CD (and that musician) — on all scores. Oceanship has a tough of the brilliant... the frequent use of the child's choir, a cappella no less, that bespeaks innocence and mirrors the songs on a meta-level; the crystalline brilliance of lines such as, 'She said: Time is a wave, and it's drowning us', and more, so much more. Bella Blue is a keeper. I am wowed.   Artists United The problem with arts advocacy is two-fold. One, it involves few artists. The very party whose name is on the marquee has neglected to participate. Two, of the artists who are participating, essentially none are speaking about the core of the crisis — the shallow ethics of the average fan and the average artist. The artist is the primary. Artists make art, and the fan and arts industry emerge from that art. In order to turn the tide of the arts movement, we must turn the primary. We must recruit a sufficient number of deeper artists under a common banner — a banner of depth. Artists United proposes to turn the primary by teaching them, or reconnecting them to, a deeper understanding of artist, including their roles and responsibilities. We propose to do this through a series of artistic live presentations and filmed vignettes to be aired online. Artists United is an organization dedicated to teaching and promoting a new dimension of art and artist in an attempt to solve problems within the arts ecosystem and accelerate emerging consciousness. Artists United explores the full artist. We go beyond the artist as simply a maker of artifacts. We strive to connect the artist to their core in a way that brings their purpose into brilliant definition.   Connect with Oceanship! Charles Officer and Face2Face host David Peck talk about his new film Invisible Essence, the The Little Prince, the personal and universal, a return to childhood, imagination, mystery, wonder and the contemplation of sunsets. Trailer Synopsis Invisible Essence: The Little Prince explores the global legacy of The Little Prince 75 years after its publication. Weaving the author Antoine de Saint-Exupery’s extraordinary biography with fascinating discussions of key sections of the book, the film explores the ways life and art reflect one another in curious ways. Indeed, the film reveals that St-Ex’s own story – his childhood, his love affair, his friendships, his politics, and his harrowing brushes with death – inform the story at every turn. Working imaginatively with the famous line “what is essential is invisible to the eye”, the film introduces a modern day Little Prince – a seven year-old blind Pakistani-Canadian boy who absorbs the book for the first time – and follows him over the course of a day as he grapples with the meanings of the story he has just read. Throughout, Invisible Essence: The Little Prince captures engaging conversations with an incredible range of individuals such as Mark Osborne (director of the animated film ‘The Little Prince’), Adam Gopnik (Staff Writer at The New Yorker), Rupi Kaur (Poet, New York Times Bestselling Author), Stacy Schiff (Pulitzer-Prize-winning biographer of St-Exupéry), and Olivier and François d'Agay (the great nephew and nephew of Antoine de Saint- Exupéry). Although a fable, Antoine de Saint-Exupéry’s transcendent story suggests an ethical philosophy about life in its own way, a code of respect for humanity. Biography Charles Officer is the founder and creative director of Canesugar Filmworks. His filmmaking career began with a slate of award-winning short films that premiered at International Film Festivals around the world. He is an alumnus of the Canadian Film Centre Director Residency where his debut feature Nurse, Fighter, Boy was produced (TIFF ’08, 10 Genie Nominations 2010). Charles followed with the feature documentary Mighty Jerome (4 Leo Awards in 2011, 2012 Emmy Award for Best Historical Documentary).Officer directed Stone Thrower: The Chuck Ealey Story for the eight-episode documentary series Engraved on a Nation (2014 CSA Best Documentary Series). In 2017 he made The Skin We’re In, featuring journalist and activist Desmond Cole and the feature documentary Unarmed Verses (Hot Docs Best Canadian Feature Awards, Vancouver International Film Festival 2017, TIFF Top Ten People’s Choice Award 2018).Charles has also directed multiple episodes of dramatic series such as Rookie Blue, Private Eyes, Netflix Original 21 Thunder and Ransom. He recently completed his third feature documentary Invisible Essence: The Little Prince based on the international best selling novella. His feature crime noir Akilla’s Escape starring Saul Williams begins production spring 2019, and he is developing the series adaptation of Mordecai Richler’s novel Son of a Smaller Hero with Generic Productions and Prospero Pictures. So who is Paul Edwards and why should you care? Well over time, should you decide to subscribe and tune in you'll no doubt get to know me more and hear some of my personal stories. Whether they be about me as a musician writing songs and playing shows, me as an engineer and producer working with other artists, my experiences working for various music companies and even helping create a controversial Artificial Intelligent Music Technology. For now I'll just say, I'm a musician and Audio Engineer and have worked in the music industry for many years. I'm looking forward to sharing a bit of my knowledge and shooting the shit with other like minded folks. I by no means have all the answers, but that's part of the fun right? If you want more info on each episode, or to see behind the scenes, or if you have any feedback please visit unfamouspodcast.com, or hit us on Facebook or Instagram @UnFamousPodcast. We also have Twitter (UnfamousPod). On today's episode we have John Mullane. This one's what I call a 12 incher, clocking in at around 60 mins with a side A and B. But don't worry, you don't have to flip anything.  Please settle in and don't forget to stretch!  John Mullane is a Musician and Producer best known as the frontman of (East-Coast) Indie Rock Band In-Flight Safety. Over their 15 year or so run In-Flight Safety has released 3 albums and 2 EPs. They've toured extensively, including Europe the US and Canada at countless festivals, clubs, radio n TV stations. The band's songs appeared on various TV shows like The Office, Degrassi - Next Gen, Chuck, The Vampire Diaries and Rookie Blue! They've been nominated for Junos (which if you don't already know are The Canadian Grammy's) and they've even won a few East Coast Music awards along the way.Over the past few years, John has slowed down touring largely to start a family and be able to spend more time Producing other artists. John's what we call a "songwriter's" Producer. He gets his hands dirty and can help with everything from songwriting, arrangement, performance, and he's solid Mixing Engineer too. His musical chops are impressive and include, but are not limited to guitar, piano, synths, drums and of course, vocals. When he's not producing bands, he also composes for TV and Film.  I had a bit of a hard time deciding who I'd have as my first guest, but in the end, John just made sense. We share a lot in common and are in similar places in our personal lives and musical careers. I have a lot of musical friends I respect and admire, and they'll hopefully appear on this podcast at some point. Provided I can find the compromising polaroids I have in storage. Not only is John one of the more musical guys I know, he also one of my oldest friends. We met the first day my family moved to New Brunswick from Quebec. I was wandering around the neighbourhood on my own. Yup a five year old unaccompanied by an adult ready for something bad to happen to him so he could be immortalized in the Moncton news. Of course this was back in the 80s in a pre-internet, pre-dialup world. ... Our lives would eventually diverge in late childhood when I moved back to Montreal, but somehow we managed to stay close. Probably due to the fact we both were lucky enough to get the music bug and ended up being musicians and later music producers. Perhaps "Unlucky" enough if you ask our parents, but here we are. It's actually pretty interesting how similar our paths ended up being, not least that we ended up becoming fathers within months of each other. We chat about fatherhood a bit too but you'll have to wait till the end of the episode in the out-takes to hear that stuff.I caught up with John at his studio in Halifax, Nova Scotia. We recorded this interview through Skype so you'll have to forgive the audio connection. Overall it holds together but there are the occasional dropouts/glitches and overall compromised audio quality. We discussed John's history and career, production philosophies and strategies, (Word-of-mouth) Marketing, stepping back from social media in favour of engaging in Art and doing what's most important: writing great songs, the benefits of Pre-Production, .... etcWithout further ado, here's my conversation with the Conversationalist himself, John Mullane.Outro:Please subscribe on your favourite podcasting app and give us a rating & review on iTunes. If you wanna find more about the show visit UnFamousPodcast.com, Facebook & Instagram is @UnFamousPodcast.And Twitter is @UnFamousPod, but fudge Twitter. If you 'd like to reach John you can use the contact page at inflightsafety.ca Instagram: inflightjohnTwitter: JohnMullaneCredits:Engineer/Producer: Paul EdwardsTheme Music for UnFamous Podcast is by The Pines. All other music for this episode courtesy of In-Flight Safety.

We are going for round two with actor, Tony Nappo on Cue To Cue! I loved having the opportunity to dig a little deeper and get caught up with Tony since our first conversation Click Here for first episode.   Tony has been up to a lot in the past couple years with his hit column Nappoholics in Intermission Magazine, the success of Bad Blood (now streaming on Netflix), to traveling shoots in Italy and Budapest for his most recent projects. Although all of these accomplishments are wonderful, and I am sincerely happy for Tony’s success, those of you who are regular listeners know that is the thing I am least interested in. I want to know YOU! Who are you “in the work”. Let’s talk about things that will challenge one another to grow and raise the bar for ourselves in our craft and as humans sharing this earth. Tony does exactly that today by sharing his heart, what he is moving towards, his past mistakes, and he does it all with a mouth like a trucker and I loved every minute it!   In this episode: Tony opens up about being an addict and how he is personally working on taking his recovery to the next level. the nature of vulnerability, ego, and acting. Actor, Tony Nappo is joining me on Cue To Cue Today! I think it is safe to say that Tony is an outspoken person who is definitely not afraid to express his feelings and opinions. Tony has a column in Intermission Magazine, Nappoholics Anonymous, where he expresses such opinions and feelings. It’s pretty great. I definitely got to meet the outspoken guy who writes the column but I also felt I got to meet this other part of Tony. At one point I asked him what is a misperception that he believes people might have about him, and he answered that sometimes he thinks that people may think he is pretty accessible and easy to get to know but that they may not know him as well as they think they do. He isn’t always this outspoken, cheeky person who likes to make jokes;  there is a sadness about him that he doesn’t show. Tony leaves nothing on the table in this episode and brings a level of vulnerability that only a few guests have brought to the podcast. I actually feel really honoured to have had this conversation with Tony. Only he really knows, but I feel like he does give the listener a chance to peek inside and get to know him better during this episode. Oh ya, we also talk about how he has a crush on Zac Efron. A Little about Tony: Tony Nappo was born and raised in Scarborough, Ontario. He went on to study acting in New York at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts. He is a theatrical staple in Toronto and has worked in many high-profile Hollywood films including Born to be Blue, Four Brothers, Saw2, Land of the Dead, and Murder at 1600. He voices the lead character, Jimmy Falcone, in the hit animated series Fugget About It and has appeared in over a hundred episodes of television including Shoot The Messenger, Remedy, Flashpoint, Killjoys, Rookie Blue, Conviction, Breakout Kings, Saving Hope and Davinci's Inquest. He has been nominated for a Canadian Screen Award, an Actra Award, a Broadway World Award and most recently, A Dora Mavor Moore award. Follow Tony! In this episode, we feature a good friend of ours Xavier De Guzman. A featured actor on the hit show Take Two.Join us as we hear about his journey, we discuss the road bumps that he has endured and how his background in Muay Thai gave him the strength and persistence to fight through the hard times. Whatever your dreams/path may be, you will definitely want to stay tuned and benefit from his experiences.- Xavier was born in Canada, of Jesusa & Fernando de Guzman of the Philippines. As a child he had a knack for sports which fueled an athleticism that lead him to boxing then later thai boxing. A decision which kept him off the path to gangs and drugs. Fighting out of Southside Muay Thai in Toronto, Xavier went on to secure, and then defended, the lightweight title in Canada. This level of acclaim led him to his first on camera role without any acting experience on the show Rookie Blue as a boxer. This sparked his passion wanting to be on set and pursued advice from high school friend, and actor, Alex Mallari Jr. He then began taking guidance from acting coach Earl Nanhu of EVN Studios, then Stephen Park of Lonsdale Smith Studios, as well as Second City, and Lewis Baumander of LB Studios. -- IMDb Mini Biography By: Xavier de Guzman -

If you’ve read my novel NOCTURNAL, you may recall the character Pookie Chang’s idea for a cop show. Like HILL STREET BLUES, BLUE BLOODS, NYPD BLUE, ROOKIE BLUE, SHADES OF BLUE, etc., Pooks decided his show should have that color as a titular part of the title. Hence, BLUE BALLS. In NOCTURNAL, Pookie might be considered the sidekick to Bryan Clauser’s lead character. In BLUE BALLS, which Pookie writes as a spec script to sell to network TV, he is the heroic lead, and Bryan is the bumbling also-ran. Pookie’s buddy cop script plays on many cop-show tropes. For the past three SiglerFests, we’ve live-recorded a portion of Pookie’s script for Season One, Episode 2, titled “Dolla Dolla Bills, Y’All.” Attendees get to read most of the parts. My plan was to release them as individual episodes leading up to SiglerFest2k18, but I screwed up last year’s recording (I paused it at one point, then forgot to continue it), and for the life of me I can’t find the SiglerFest2k16 recording. So, my pal Stephen King (no, not that Stephen King, and yes, that is his name) gathered up some of his actor pals and we recorded the entire pilot script as a live table read. Many props to Iceberg, our editor, for putting this together.

Leviathan CGI was interesting, not great, not crappy Compressed light blasts - aww yeah Bad-ass punch to the head Kendra v Savage Really liked the mace effect Kendra laid into Savage and Carter with a bad ass spiked mace - no blood Legends and Cassandra Savage v. Shock Troops Casandra with the throwing knife in the back … But why did they stand around when they had Savage at the start Time Travel: Share your thoughts He knows where his family is even though they were at Whitechapel - can't get his family to safety. OK, so no matter what he does Savage's forces keep killing his family - time wants his family to die, yet he's still trying to change it. Rip Hunter Running into the final battle at the rally with no real plan - yet another example of not great captaining A bit of a dick not wanting the refugees on board Gideon He basically gives up when the Waverider is damaged. Vandal Savage Great speech at the start Vandal Savage's Daughter - Cassandra Savage Decent training montage with a katana She didn't know that the Armageddon virus was unleashed by Savage, and that Savage created Per Degaton… and there came the inevitable reveal Joins the rebels at the end. The Atom - Ray Palmer “It worked, I'm not dead… yet” Giant Sized ATOM Looks crushed when Kendra says “we need to talk” White Canary - Sara Lance Aside from decent staff fighting, not a lot Kinda weird that she brought up the whole soulmate thing with Kendra, but she's her friend, so I guess it was in character Hawkgirl - Kendra Saunders Golden mace is pretty cannon - Nth metal Hawkman - Carter Hall Spike mace training scene, he wasn't actually a bit of a douche Captain Cold - Leonard Snart Solid throughout the episode, esp. In his interactions with Cassandra Backstory with his dad who was a monster is a lot of callback to the Flash Episode with Golden Glider as well. Heatwave - Mick Rory “It works with my outfit” It's great when Mic is actually into the role - his looks while interrogating the daughter was kinda awesome. Firestorm - Professor Martin Stein Cared about the refugees, but didn't have a lot to do - was injured for the climactic fight. Firestorm - Jefferson Jackson Ray's cheering section - not a lot of direct action since Stein was out of commission. Waverider/Gideon EPISODE DC EASTER EGGS:  Season 1 Episode 13 “Leviathan” (Date: 29 Apr 2016) Article:http://comicbook.com/dc/2016/04/29/dcs-legends-of-tomorrow---x-things-you-might-have-missed-in-levi/   Leviathan: There have been two Leviathans in DC Comics.  The first Leviathan was Gim Allor, a member of the Legion of Super-Heroes.  The most recent Leviathan wasn't a person at all, but an offshoot of the League of Assassins.  Talia al Ghul created Leviathan to oppose Batman Inc. Growing Atom: Savage's Leviathan is clearly a giant version of Ray's ATOM suit The Rebel Leader: Sharon Taylor, who played the unnamed Rebel Leader on tonight's episode, was in Smallville, she played Zod's lieutenant Faora Cassandra Savage: Cassandra Savage is actually based on a different DC character...  Kassandra Sage is one of Vandal Savage's daughters in the New 52.  After the police arrested Savage for a string of sacrificial murders, Kass grew up to become a profiler for the FBI, specializing in serial killers.  After not speaking to Savage for years, Kass used her father to help solve a string of copycat murders committed by the son of the man who arrested Savage.  Of course, most fans were hoping that Cassandra would wind up being Scandal Savage, a member of the Secret Six, a group of anti-hero mercenaries. Extra - thumping class of scotch looked like Jurassic Park. Extra - did anyone think of Capt. America Civil war when ATOM grew - like Ant-man growing into Giant-man   ARROW NEWS:   Wendy Mericle talks Prometheus, no magic, and Flashpoint (Date: 24 Aug 2016) * “for Season 5 … we did want to go back to our roots and figure out what is specific to this show. "We love working with Teddy. He's such an amazing actor and amazing person, and was so much a part of the success of this show last season. There aren't any immediate plans for that, but you can't keep a good Black Flash down, so I'm sure we'll be seeing him in the future." Time Pirate while Crew in the hallway lots of character development Doesn't belong here - but the decision to space all the pirates.  Pretty cold. Freakin end scene with Mick and Snart was gut wrenching Time Travel: Share your thoughts (Neil then Chris) Time Masters OK, so if we have time pirates, then we potentially have a ton of people who can really screw with the timeline who really don't care about the consequences Rip Hunter /Sigh - backstory… but does anybody care Captaining skill, on a scale of 1 to 10, 1 being Captain Crunch, 10 being Captain Picard. Rewatching the dead family voicemail/email/holovid trope. Ugh Rip in the brig was a freakin asehole The Atom - Ray Palmer Not a captain Going outside to repair the ship is the selfless boyscout to a T Favourite Beatle comment - not fair to the other three kinda reinforces that White Canary - Sara Lance Perspective on dying Perspective on Mick Rory - He's in a dark place and he's not coming back Hawkgirl - Kendra Saunders Ripping off the ATOM chestplate can't be good for the suit Start of the relationship Captain Cold - Leonard Snart “My partner's on that ship” - There is still that inherent loyalty to Mic, even though he's disagreeing with him at that point Time to choose a side - at this point the rift is complete Heatwave - Mick Rory Lots of Mick Rory stuff - more dialogue, more scenes.   Firestorm - Professor Martin Stein Stein was actually pretty useful Firestorm - Jefferson Jackson Jax's look with the distress call was priceless Waverunner/Gideon N/A   EPISODE DC EASTER EGGS:   Season 1 Episode 7 “Marooned” (Date: 4 Mar 2016) Article:http://comicbook.com/2016/03/04/dcs-legends-of-tomorrow-xx-things-you-might-have-missed-in-maroo/ Bonnie Baxter: Captain of the Acheron is a canon character from the time masters The Acheron: DC easter egg, both a powerful ghost, and a demon post-flashpoint Time Pirates: Admit it, we all thought Terry Gilliam's Time Bandits didn't we... Reference to Rick Starr: Golden Age space Ranger from DC Star Wars and Star Trek References: Like Sulu or Han Solo (a) From the comments: When Kendra says "tell that to Vash" in response to Ray calling Captain Picard "sexless", she was referring to Vash, the woman Picard met (and got together with) while on vacation in the season three Next Generation episode, "Captain's Holiday". Vash (played by Jennifer Hetrick) appeared again in the TNG episode "Q-pid" and the DS9 episode "Q-Less". That was a pretty obscure reference but a nice one for big fans of TNG. (b) Gideon says “His chances of survival are less than 3,720 to 1” - Same as Star Wars when C3PO calculates the odds of survival Imperiex: Canon reference, this time to a Superman Villain Kanjar Ro: Another Canon reference to a classic Justice League Villain Rip Hunter's last name is Carter: Booster Gold's son... Parley: Kinda a reference to Pirate's of the Caribbean Time Master Coburn: Reference to Arrow writer Jake Coburn?
