Episode 46 of Oh, Deer, presented by Bo's Bar & Stage is here... and it's (hopefully) a good one! To kick off our new partnership with Red Deer's own Legend Water (our Episode 46 sponsor), we were lucky enough to land an incredible interview with Canadian Actor and Legend Water Co-Founder Aleks Paunovic, who very graciously stopped by Communal Creative Studios while he was in town for the Alberta Food & Beverage Expo. (17:50) And even though all the non-interview talk is always pretty mediocre, it was probably even more mediocre after an interview like that, but we still chatted about a bunch of other crap, including a wrap-up of the Food & Beverage Expo and Lund's '50 Booths or Bust' challenge (1:28:44), and we also answered all of your random questions with another round of 'Ask Us Anything' (1:40:21) and, predictably, it was all over the map. As always... enjoy! (Or don't, we're not the boss of you)

The conversation that Richard and I had was remarkable. I am super excited for Richard and his career path. He is doing such a great job with everything he has done so far. Richard Chevolleau is a native of Kingston, Jamaica. The multi-talented artist has honed his career over the years by living and working in New York, Los Angeles, Vancouver Calgary, Ottawa, and Toronto, where he currently resides. Richard, a Canadian Gemini and Actra award winning actor, is going to camera summer 2024 on his latest short film, “Marvelous Marvin.” Chevolleau brings his director/writer/producer skills to the table for the project. “Marvelous Marvin” is produced by Three Finger Film Productions Inc. Chevolleau's production company, executive produced by Richard Fagon & Angie Reid. The film stars Knyght Darius Jack, (Accused, Blues Clues, Grayson's Encounter) Angie Reid (Coroner, Slip, Promise Me) Shanice Banton (Degrassi: The Next Generation, Murdoch Mysteries, Lifetme's Her Stolen Past) and actor Michael Brown (Four Brothers, Hudson & Rex, Diggstown). Chevolleau's sensitive and heartwarming film is a coming-of-age drama. “Marvelous Marvin” follows the journey of quiet ten-year-old Marvin Marvellus, who lives in a small rural town. Marvin has caught the wrath of the schoolyard bully, Tiny, and endures daily bullying from the boy. Marvin feels defeated and helpless until one day he discovers his father's vintage superhero comics. He finds inspiration in the comic book heroes, leading him to believe that he can become a real-life superhero. He wears a make-shift cape and calls himself Marvelous Marvin. But, even with the name change and cape, Marvin realizes that defeating his bully isn't that simple. He finally confronts his tormentor, and by standing up to him, Marvin discovers that courage comes from within if you believe in yourself. Being a passionate and character focused actor, it's no surprise that Chevolleau will educate and inspire us with “Marvelous Marvin.” Chevolleau pays attention to his craft and knows you can not stay quiet, and every day is a journey. By directing, writing, and producing projects, Chevolleau makes sure his work is heard on his terms in the stories and characters he creates. Along with “Marvelous Marvin” Chevolleau has a slate of projects to come. Marvelous Marvin delivers a powerful message about the resilience of the human spirit and the importance of inner strength in the face of adversity.” Richard Chevolleau, the actor is currently in pre-production as the creator, writer & producer on the upcoming feature film, "STINKY: THE NILO GOODMAN STORY". Richard is the actor and director known for Narc (2002), Earth: Final Conflict (1997), and Four Brothers (2005). Over the course of his 20+ years as an actor, today's guest has reinvented himself, pushing beyond Hollywood typecasting into roles that have allowed him to reach new heights as both an artist, and as a person. Tyler Labine's long list of credits include Hulu's, “Deadbeat”, The WB's “Dead Last”, NBC's “Animal Practice”, CBS's “Mad Love”, FX's “Sons of Tucson” and he can currently be seen on the new season of BBC's “Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency” and the NBC hit series, “New Amsterdam” as Dr. Iggy Frome. Born in Canada, Tyler discusses what it was like growing up as one of three artistically inclined siblings. He shares his experience of getting started in the film and television industry, and how his desire for more opportunities ultimately landed him in Los Angeles with roommate Ryan Gosling. Early on in his career, Tyler experienced being typecast in predominantly comedic roles. Often playing the goofy character type for a number of years, Tyler shares how he was able to shift casting's view of him and the kinds of projects he began to take on in order to do so. Now playing a wide range of roles across the comedy to drama spectrum, today's episode is full of insight and tips for actors at all levels. From discussing the ins-and-outs of actor finances, to character building technique, to his audition story opposite Aaron Sorkin that you'll have to hear to believe, Tyler is an example of what it means to grow as a person, and as a result, grow as an artist. Today, I'll be chatting with Richard Harte. Richard is an actor here in Toronto. Born in Dublin, he and his mother emigrated to Canada when he was six years old, eventually settling in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Amongst many things, we discuss Richard's identity as an Irish-Canadian and how that has contributed to his acting career, especially playing Irish characters. Adam Seelig, the Artistic Director of One Little Goat Theatre Company, put me in contact with Richard. Last week at the 2023 Toronto Irish Film Festival, Adam and Richard's creation, Finnegan's Wake Chapter 1 was screened. “Finnegans Wake Chapter 1″ captures the dynamic and comedic cadences of James Joyce's final novel as read by Richard Harte. Shot with a live audience in Toronto, this marks both the first ‘audio-video book' of this extraordinary novel and the first movie in One Little Goat's plan to film all 17 chapters of Finnegans Wake.

Well after apparently taking our last Bond actor filmography episode a little too far with a total of three episodes on it, we're back to finally move on to the next James Bond actor and a film from their career that isn't a James Bond movie. Although, perhaps we didn't really choose one that was TOO different as we take a closer look at the Pierce Brosnan movie that is The November Man from 2014. Do we appreciate our beloved Pierce in this movie even though he sort of still is being James Bond? Why does it look like Pierce just really wants to fart throughout this film? Who is the other guy in this movie and is he as famous as that famous Canadian actor Jack Smiggins? Who is Jack Smiggins? Why do we love Jack Smiggins? Does Pierce love Jack Smiggins? Is Jack Smiggins on Facebook? Twitter? Instagram? Could we interview Jack Smiggins? Is Jack Smiggins sexier than Pierce Brosnan? Would Noah like Jack Smiggins? And seriously, how amazing is that incredibly famous actor from Canada Jack Smiggins? Apparently we got side-tracked and didn't really tell you much about this episode and what we talk about, but believe us when we say you should listen to it because you'll enjoy it! You know Jack Smiggins would so be like Jack Smiggins!★ Support this podcast on Patreon ★

Hello and welcome to episode 69 of Sing! Dance! Act! Thrive!I’m going to start the show with a little-known fact… For most of my life, I tiptoed around in order to go unnoticed. I was passionate about the performing arts, however, I was way too shy to become a performer. As a photographer, makeup artist, journalist, artist manager, and publicist I could remain behind the scenes, but becoming a coach changed that for me. As a creativity coach, we dig deep into core values, limiting beliefs, and personal motivation for achieving goals. Encouraging my clients to show up authentically, to share vulnerabilities, and to push through their comfort zones motivates me to lead by example and do the same. Now when I notice I am procrastinating on something I examine the why behind it, what fear or limiting belief am I holding on to? Then I work to push through. And I’m grateful for the change! Listeners have heard me say before that the reason I got into coaching was out of frustration that too many artists were coming to me for publicity before they were really ready. In order to get media attention these days, you need a professional brand, interesting stories, and an active social media following. Through coaching I can guide you through developing those step by step, however, lately, I’m realizing that in my attempts to give the people what they want which is for me to teach them about social media and dyi publicity that I’ve started to allow clients to again skip over the foundational work. The foundation is personal branding which is all about expressing your authentic self in all its glory. It is exploring and celebrating your personality, interests, life experiences, core values, beliefs, skills, strengths, and even your weaknesses. It is deeply personal work that I believe strongly that you can’t have long-lasting success if you skip it. I’m sharing this because it is good to take a step back and remember the why behind your vision and notice if you are going off track. So you may notice on the podcast or things I share on social media that I’m going to return to focus on the foundations more so than giving you social media and publicity tips. My guest today knows all about sticking to your vision so much so that Stick to your vision has grown from a song that he wrote and recorded to a book to Ted talks to being a major part of his personal and professional brand. Maestro Fresh Wes is a multi-award-winning recording artist, and the first Canadian Hip Hop artist to have a single hit Gold status on the charts. His iconic 1989 album Symphony In Effect was the first to receive a JUNO Award for Best Rap Recording of the Year, as well as the first Canadian Hip Hop album to go Platinum. A true pioneer, he was also the first Canadian hip hop artist to have a song rank on Billboard’s Top 20 Rap Singles chart, and in 2019 “Let Your Backbone Slide” became the first rap song inducted into the Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame.Maestro’s songs “Reach For The Sky (feat. Classified and Blue Rodeo)” and “The Distance (feat. Saukrates)” were featured throughout the Olympics, 2014 Winter, and 2016 Summer, respectively. As an actor, Williams has appeared on numerous film and television projects, including The Line — for which he was nominated for a Gemini Award for Best Performance by an Actor in a Featured Supporting Role in a Dramatic Series — and as the character of Paul Dwyer in the CBC hit sitcom, Mr. D. He has been inducted into the Scarborough Walk of Fame, received the 2003 Reel World Film Festival Trailblazer Award, and was a guest speaker for the Governor-General of Canada’s Summit on Urban Arts. Williams’ paths as both an author and motivational speaker merged with the release of his motivational book, Stick To Your Vision with its foreword written by Public Enemy’s Chuck D, and content long-credited for inspiring fellow Canadian hip hop star Drake.Canada’s indisputable Godfather of hip hop has just unveiled his newest release — an inspirational children’s book, Stick To Your Vision: Young Maestro Goes to School. How is that for an introduction…the man is a legend and a super sweet guy too. I hope you enjoy our conversation.Links and a transcript visit http://singdanceactthrive.com/069

In collaboration with THE VERGE. Supported by: Anne-Marie Canning In July, we are delving into the incredible power of VR to put people in other people's lives. And also the challenges and questions that come with that power. Storytellers are only beginning to explore the potential for virtual reality to put people inside other perspectives — and other lives. In our second POP, you'll get the chance to experience some of the best work that's been done to date, and also to question the limits of the technology and the ethical questions it raises. From escapist fun (take a drive around Mars! Wander an alien world!) to crushing and immersive VR documentaries to a one-of-a-kind room-scale augmented reality experience, you will leave this installation with some new views on things. ROSS MILLER CO-FOUNDER AND MANAGING EDITOR, THE VERGE Ross Miller is a cofounder and Managing Editor of The Verge. She has followed virtual reality since the original Oculus Rift’s unveiling in 2012, and her work includes a definitive oral history of VR, along with coverage of the medium’s science, technology, and culture.
