We're excited to welcome Arkajo to the mix series this week. He's well known for his work with Dorisburg as part of the one-of-a-kind house duo Genius of Time but we're also huge fans of their Aniara Records label with its beautifully deep sonic soundscapes and have coveted so many of their releases over the years. With his background in jazz composition, live performance and behind the scenes studio work, he is equal parts producer, musician, dj and technological wizard. A keen understanding of sound, rhythm and harmony is evident on his releases as well as in his dj sets, locking your body in rhythm and exploring distant vistas in your mind. "This is a mixtape in the literal sense of the word, recorded in my living room onto cassette tape. I've primarily selected records that have been in my bag for the last couple of months, along with some new bits that I find very exciting and inspiring. It's a mix on the housier side, gradually descending into a darker vibe, signing off with a remix of one of my tracks by one of my favorite producers and DJs, Polygonia. 'Warbler' EP Available here: https://www.beatport.com/release/warbler/2773395 Number twenty on San Francisco's Manjumasi is the second solo artist EP from label co-founder atish. With the Warbler EP, atish presents a pair of original tracks that showcase strange and unique melodic stylings across two distinct energy levels, both featuring eerie and compelling string sounds with heavy use of creative effects. The title track, Warbler, has a solid late-night dance floor groove with a lush and haunting synth line anchoring the mid-range groove. Abyss takes things deeper, again veering into eerie sonic territories with vocal pads floating throughout the mix. This one sits in a more restrained rhythmic territory, well suited to the mood-setting opening hours. The package features three top-notch remixes from a collection of very serious producers. Sweden's Dorisburg turns in an incredibly heady interpretation of Abyss, with sparkling glassy pads juxtaposed against a bouncing synth bassline. Melodic master Rodriguez Jr. takes Warbler in a different direction, weaving the original elements into a tapestry of his signature arpeggios and synth crescendos. Lastly, Fort Romeau turns in an energetic Warbler mix, anchored by a long-building stabby bassline that develops into a real acid-tinged driver. Our last episode of 2018 was recorded in Röstånga, Sweden with producer and performer @SebastianMullaert, who invited me to his studio to talk about the art of live performance and his new project, @CircleofLive. After retiring his live duo @Minilogue in 2014, Sebastian continued recording and performing under the name Wa Wu We, before launching his new project Circle of Live. Inspired by Sebastian's love of improvisation, jam sessions, and creative collaboration, Circle of Live debuted officially at this summer's @Freerotation Festival, and I had the pleasure of attending one of their events in Malmö, Sweden, a couple months ago. Lily Ackerman is responsible for the latest installment in As You Like It's podcast series, a 70-minute trip that shows off her penchant for melodic, groove-focused techno and deep house. On Saturday, Dec. 16 at basement rave-cave Monarch, AYLI hosts its annual holiday "Ugly Sweater Party" featuring a live set from one of the most evocative new voices in techno, Sweden's Dorisburg (aka 1/2 of the duo Genius of Time). Ackerman will step up to the decks alongside AYLI residents Sassmouth and David Siska.

Part of the highly regarded Kompakt family, Blond:ish have carved out their own niche thanks to their original sound and fun-loving approach to life. Better known to their parents as Anstascia D'elene and Vivie Ann Bakos, their productions have found home on labels which include Get Physical, Leftroom and Noir, and they have become a staple on the international club and festival circuit. Learning their trade at Cherry Nightclub in their then home town of Montreal (where they promoted and DJ-ed at their mid-week event called Blond:ish), it was a move to London which lead to a chance meeting with the Kompakt crew through a mutual friend. A series of releases later, in particular 'Endless Games' resonating far and wide, and the Canadians are now card holding members to one of the world's most prestigious imprints. You would be hard pressed to find a better 2015 LP debut release than their 'Welcome to the Present', an introspective musical journey into back-to-nature mysticism and spiritual groove. The release featured a host of shamanic and organic-sounding instruments, and, with its nod to philosopher Alan Watts, strongly alluded towards their holistic approach to life (and music). With our 40th podcast next up, the stars have finally aligned for the duo to deliver us a mix that was put together during some time off. ('We made it in Bali in between our yoga, meditation and spa days lol'). It even includes a fresh new production (the first track in the mix), spawned from a very recent recording session they had: 'We made it in a couple hours and just jammed along the groove track'.
