After literal years of discussing Taylor's persistent use of birdcages and bird imagery, Katie and Madyson have gathered every single birdcage reference to unpack the Queer symbolism behind it all. To kick off the episode, the Archers revel in the assumption that Taylor debuted her brand new green dress in Tampa on a Thursday as a reference to S3 E3's hairpin drop from Sappho Speaks. Then, they review all of Taylor's cage-related lyrics in her discography and establish their interpretations of its meaning in her work. Aside from her lyrics, they also look at an extensive timeline of Taylor's relationship to birdcages in her life; They read excerpts from the Lover Diaries, fawn over her human sized birdcage in her Nashville condo, and review all the birdcage imagery from Speak Now's promotional shoots. Finally, the Archers connect all of Taylor's birdcage references to the very established Queer history of birdcages ranging from Maya Angelou to Dali to Rebekah Harkness to Alice in Wonderland to British art from the 19th century.... Lotus and Bird Bedtime Stories

The Golden Bird is a fairytale collected by Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm and was originally published in 1812. Welcome to the Lotus and Bird Bedtime Stories podcast! I am delighted that you are here! This is a project I've wanted to make a reality for a few years now. I kept making excuses-not the right equipment, not sure how to edit, etc. There was so much fear around beginning. But we can't always wait until things are perfect, can we? We must sometimes just jump in and begin and learn as we go. This, for me, is such a time. A little about me: My name is Tricia and I'm a cyanotype artist. I love stories of all kinds. My daughter is a grown woman now but from the moment she was born and even before, I read to her. And then we would read together as she grew. Stories were important. Sharing them at bedtime was a treasure. Now, as an empty nest mama, I find myself again and again missing the very act of reading aloud and the sharing of story and it is in that missing this idea took root. The thought that out there in this world there was maybe even one person who could benefit from a bedtime story was the nudge I needed to hit "publish." So, thank you from the bottom of my heart for listening. I will be here once a week with a new podcast every Tuesday. I'd also love story suggestions (they must be in the public domain). And reviews (especially kind ones). Thank you again for listening. To support the show visit: https://www.buymeacoffee.com/Lotusandbird xo, Tricia

Welcome listeners to Brothers Grimm week, and both these stories, translated from German into English, are ready for your lovely ears. Now last episode I mentioned that The Golden Bird story was unique? Well two listeners StarEve2099 and Devonte got it right; The Golden Bird story is tied directly to the episode with “The Bird “Grip”. Both stories shared similar characters, and storylines, but with slight difference – Devonte explains this well: the is story very similar to an the previous story with small but unimportant differences like kings sons, and in the Golden Bird the king is greedy for the gold, rather than in the recent story where the king was sick and needed the bird's healing song. It’s always fascinating when these crossovers take place and how much the Brothers Grimm borrowed versus what they created / tweaked. Now in usual Brothers Grimm fashion, there’s may be some strange dialogue, or odd phrasing, but once you get past that, a unique story is to be found. The Golden bird is a story from one of the lives of the Bodhisatta (Bodhisatta) and teaches us that greed is bad. This story is also known as The Golden Mallard and is similar to the tale of the Golden Serpant and also the Hen That Lay The Golden Egg. The moral of the story is that one should not be greedy and accept what one receives in life with happiness. Todd Kessler, Season 3 "The Voice" contestant joins Mary E.. Kessler is the front man for The New Folk, a band out of Chicago. They are getting ready to appear on the Bud Light stage at the annual "The Taste of Chicago" July 13th.  The New Folk celebrated the release of their debut album, Sea Fever, with an August 2012 “Practice Space Presents” residency at Schuba's Tavern, but the story behind The New Folk began in 2005 as singer/songwriter Todd Kessler went in to the studio to record his debut album. That album, entitled We Are The MusicMakers, was released in 2006 and with the backing of his original band helped Kessler to make his name in the local Chicago music scene.  In 2007 and 2008, in the midst of touring the Midwest, Kessler teamed up with Producer Greg Magers to record his next two albums, the Veronika EP and Boomerang, only garnering him more praise and recognition on the road and at home. It was while recording Veronika that The New Folk began to take root with the addition of Bob Parlier on drums, Sam Smiley on guitar and Graham Burris on bass. The quartet began playing out in 2008 in support of Boomerang, still under the name of Todd Kessler, but it was during the next two years and the addition of a string section (Elana Hiller and Chris Bauler), a horn section (David Ben-Porat and Ben Bell Bern) and a second vocalist (Molly Parlier) that the band began to make waves with their signature alternative folk/pop sound. 2009’s double-single release “Golden Bird,” along with headlining shows at Schuba's, Lincoln Hall, Double Door and Millennium Park, solidified the band’s place as a respected group in Chicago, and in 2010, the band began playing shows under the name Todd Kessler and the New Folk.

In a set of three audio diaries, recorded in situ, Sarah shares her experiences along the way. These include reflections on India’s high levels of poverty and inequality, the nature of its democracy, and what thought leaders and passionate civil society activists she meets along the way believe is the answer to these and related burning issues. Follow the series to hear stories of success and struggle from communities struggling for rights to land and resources on which they depend, and for insight from the road as Sarah joins land rights partner Ekta Parishad on their incredible year-long journey across India mobilising and preparing some 100,000 people to march for their rights in October 2012. http://www.christianaid.org.uk/whatwedo/in-focus/india-march-for-justice/index.aspx http://www.christianaid.org.uk/getinvolved/harvest/index.aspx #SlumsDelhiLandRightsLandReformJnuChristianAidPovertyInequalityEktaParishadJanSatyagrahaMarch #slumsdelhilandrightslandreformjnuchristianaidpovertyinequalityektaparishadjansatyagrahamarch

I finally finished "The Golden Bird."  Sorry it took me so long.  And I even critiqued the story a bit.  Don't know how much sense it makes to do a review of a story several centuries old.  That's just how I roll.Themes: "Continue Life," "Sovereign" and "Hot Swing" from Kevin MacLeod.
